I bought this for my just-turned four year old daughter from a high street store and she absolutely loves it. She was already interested in 'science' as a concept, mainly from the Usborne 'See Inside' books, and so was instantly interested when the sales assistant showed her the contents of this box. Kindling her interest first, and following it up with the kit, may have worked better for me than simply presenting her with it as one-amongst-other 'toys' at Christmas etc. What sold the set to me wasn't the equipment, which in itself seems to be of good pre-schooler proof quality (the lab goggles seem to be 'real' ones!), but the colourful, robust and well thought-out large format experiment cards.Basically, this set is educational tool camouflaged as a toy - at least as much thought has gone into the cards as has gone into the plastic equipment and it works because of it.There isn't anything in here you couldn't do at home without this set, but by using the lab gear, like any prop, really helped my daughter to 'get into character' and focused her on developing her 'hypotheses' ('an idea you can test' - thank you Dinosaur Train!) and then talking about her findings.Like a lot of these 'educational' toys, you get as much out as you put in - they aren't a 'give and forget' present. The toy in itself is just a few bits of plastic and to really get your monies worth you need find your own inner scientist and use it as a prop as you rediscover science with your pre-schooler.

Well made kit, and comes nicely packaged, but there isn’t really a lot to it once you ve taken in out of the large box. The experiment cards are ok but do you really need an a5 wipe clean card saying go outside and find some insects to look at with the magnifying glass? Worth noting that you do not get any of the materials required to do the experiments, but these are easy enough to find, bicarbonate of soda, vinegar, food colouring etc.The test tubes and beaker look great with a bit of water and food colouring. The large diameter of the tubes makes them easy to hold and the kids spent ages mixing the colours and seemed very happy with it. The safety glasses went down well, but you will need to buy your own lab coat to complete the full scientist look.Overall a great kit to have when the kids announce they want to do some “science” and this certainly encourages this. It is a bit expensive for what you get, but what’s there is well made and should last a long while.

My Daughter has just received this as a gift. It's great and simple for young budding scientists. You will need a few items to help with the experiments, like food colouring, bicarb of soda. dirty pennies, Lemon juice. It's great fun for young kids to learn and figure things out, using basic household items.comes with Safety goggles so you don't need to buy them separately. My little one has had fun playing with it with just water until someone was available to help her with the other experiments, it's also useful as a bath toy, as she loved filling it all with bubbles and water, made extended play time fun in the bath.I think we will get much more fun out of this in the coming weeks, and think it's something that could keep interests peaked.you do get some experiments with it to try, but many more fun experiments are available if you search on line.

A great gift. I bought this for my 5 yr old. Although it doesn't come with a lab coat it didn't phase him, he knew he should wear his coverall that we use for crafting and the mat to lay underneath before we started. The equipment is really good quality and sturdy. Part of the fun was finding the ingredients that we needed from the kitchen and putting other ingredients on a shopping list to do the other experiments. We've done lab tests before but having the right equipment makes it feel more like science than just playing. There are plenty of other ideas out there for experiments to make more use of the equipment when you've finished the ones on the cards and if your child likes this then I can recommend the Usborne " big book of science things to make and do".So on the whole top marks!

I bought this for my 4 year old daughter for Christmas, and she loves it! It has proved to be the most enduring of all her Christmas presents. She refer's to it as her "Nina set" after "Nina and the neurones" on Cbeebies, primarily because of the safety goggles in the set. She regularly pesters me with "Please can we do an experiment!".I like the fact that it encourages thought provoking experimentation with substances found in most kitchens, such as bicarb, vinegar and food colouring. This also means that you can repeat experiments as often as small child wishes. The contents are solidly made, bright and colourful, and easy to use by small hands. The only sour note, is that the tweezers are difficult to use, even for adults, being too bulky and stiff to grip even pennies.

I purchased this product for my Granddaughter's birthday and she absolutely loves it. The instructions are simple and easy to follow and I am going to order another set for my Grandson later in the year. We all had great fun carrying out some of the experiments. I thought once the experiments had been conducted it would become boring but we are now doing them all again with our own variations and it is brilliant for making the little one think and a great way to involve the whole family. I have one small query though. On the box and in the list of contents there is a purple coloured stopper for the large beaker which was not in our box. I wonder if you would send me one please. This would make it perfect and I have no problem recommending this science set to anyone.

I purchased this for my 6 year old grandson who is interested in Sceince . As an experienced school science technician I was pleased with the standard of equipment, it was sturdy and of a size easy for children to use. The experiments were clear and on the whole very good. The volcano experiment which all children want to do was a disappointment using the instructions but When I changed it it was a great success . The instructions diluted the bicarb and the vinegar which meant that there was hardly any fizz,I put the neat vinegar onto dry bicarb and it had the desired effect, I would warn users that they do this at their own risk but it really is not dangerous. The other experiment with the raisins and fizzy water worked better if one used a

My 3 1/2 year old son loves doing 'speriments' with this science kit. It has lots of cards with ideas for investigations which can be done easily using objects and ingredients most people would have at home.Examples of some of his favourites in the box are: make a volcano, bobbing raisins and float or sink.Equipment is nice and bright and chunky and the goggles really make him feel like he's doing something a bit risky (none of the experiments really are)!Perfect for inquisitive minds. I would recommend this to anyone who has a 'why? child'!

As good as other reviews say. Contains hardware sturdy enough for small hands and the idea cards for experiments are easy to follow. Lots of skills to develop (yes, observation is a skill for scientists), dexterity to practice, following instructions, safety, careful handling, reading & understanding, etc., but possibly most of all the wow factor. My 5 year old grandson absolutely loves it, experimenting with help from his parents (I haven't had a look in yet & I'm a scientist!). Add a few kitchen ingredients and watch the giggles & amazement.

Bought this set for our 5yr old for christmas. He's spent hours in the kitchen first playing in water then (with moms help) adding food colouring and other bits and bobs to conduct the experiments provided on the very easy to read cards. He really loves this set and i can see him getting many months of use because its only limited by his imagination…….and mummy's availability. We added a white lab coat via amazon for about a tenner and now he thinks he's a super scientist…..top drawer!

Wow, this had my 3 year old daughter and 4 year old (boy) neighbour sitting nicely playing volcanos for ages! I put it in the bath with my daughter and she just has so much fun with it! She was really into making potions so I thought this would tie in nicely and give her a push into the magic of science too. The cards are great.I also have a lot of airport mini products she can use freely to make potions. (saves my nice products for me) She shows everyone who comes over! Total hit!

My 4yr old is science mad at the min and although this was a little more expensive than other kits he loves it!Its well made and appears like a real science kit, he particularly likes the pipet and test tubes which have a rack. There are no chemicals included which is quite good so you know what you are adding is safe and appropriate for that age group. There are about 10 experiment cards included but you can adopt any experiments you find on you tube etc..

Bought this for our daughter's 5th birthday. It doesn't come with the ingredients to do the experiments such as bicarb of soda, food colouring but that was clear on the packaging and I didn't expect it to. She has done some of the experiments today and described it as amazing - really enjoyed it. All the instruments are easy to use and robust. I am really pleased with it and would recommend it to others as something to get children interested in science.

This is an excellent first Science set. You will need to make sure you have several items prior to using it. Bicarbonate of soda, food colouring, lemon juice etc. I liked how the apparatus was big. The instruction cards are good, we did some additional experiments from other web sources. I bought three sets for a playdate for 6 children. We had so much fun. I bought additional lab coats, so they really looked the part.

This is a good solid set and you can make up lots of experiments to do with it. We've only had it a few days and my 4-year-old daughter has already tried making solutions - finding out which household substances dissolve and which don't. There are 10 fairly simple experiments with the set. It is solid a durable and we should get years of use out of it. I think the price is a bit high - £15-20 would be more like it.
