I've transitioned my photography from a bridge camera (FZ200) to Micro four-thirds. I've had a m43 camera for some time, but it was only when creating some GIF animations from frames of video that I found the extra performance of the m43 format to warrant losing the convenience of a bridge camera. So having had the ability to zoom from 25mm to 600mm, I now find myself in the business of changing lenses.Whatever people claim, prime lenses are the way to go on m43. I've got the Panasonic 12-35mm f2.8 "X" lens, and it's a lovely lens, but is not as sharp as its price suggests it ought to be. But there are times when the flexibility of a zoom is more important than absolute image quality, and environments when you really don't want to be removing your lens. I don't have a lot of cash to throw around, but I still wanted a flexible zoom with reasonable reach that also performs well. Looking at reviews and lens tests, I thought this 45-175mm 'X' series lens stood out as a bit of a bargain as an import, and so it turned out to be.I was concerned that zooming was lever only, but it actually has a delightful zoom ring that works very well. The electronically linked manual focus ring is nice and smooth also, and given how smooth the electronic action is, I'll take that over the horribly coarse manual focussing of the 100-300mm zoom any day. I use this lens on my OM-D E-M5ii, and even with the great IS on the Olympus, I found I needed a fairly fast shutter speed to capture movement and eliminate camera shake. (I haven't used this lens on a Panasonic body, so the lens IS is untested.) (I must be getting wobbly in my old age.) I'm not at all impressed with the continuous focussing of my E-M5ii, which is possibly down to some setting I haven't sorted out, or it is possibly that the E-M5ii is a bit poor at focussing on moving targets, but regardless, I find myself using manual focus with it a lot, so the manual focus performance of a lens is quite important to me.Contrast is not particularly impressive with this lens, and I noticed a fair bit of chromatic aberration too, when focussing. (Note that chromatic aberration is fixed in-camera on Panasonic bodies.) Grumbles aside, this is really pleasing lens to use and can give good sharp results. (See attached pics) I like the reach of the 175mm (350mm SLR equiv) though the 45mm is a little long to be ideal, but I found it handled really well. I like that the zoom doesn't cause tromboning, and it feels light but well-made. I can see me using this lens a lot, forgiving its limitations and enjoying its performance and handling. In conclusion, this imported lens is somewhat of a bargain as far as I'm concerned. It gives results far beyond what its modest price suggests. Highly recommended.

I took a risk buying this as early comments from pixel peepers looked discouraging. I only shoot stills and had bought into the G2 system to use when my D300 system was just too heavy. My D300 with its 18-200mm and Sigma 10-20mm totals 1970gms. I had intended to as near as possible replicate this set up on the G2 using their 14-140 lens, but was surprised to find that at 458gms it was only 20% lighter than Nikon's 18-200mm and felt pretty top heavy on the G2. It was also nearly £150 more expensive than the Nikon lens. So I went for the 14-45, (150gms) which seemed to have better reviews than the 14-42, and I'm delighted with it. The 45-200 was my next thought, but again,I was surprised to see how heavy it was at 381gms. I tried the much lighter Olympus 45-150, (190gms) and while it was excellent I found that because it has no IS, I was unable to get sharp enough results, so I returned it.So I was just about to order the 45-200 when I found out about the 45-175. It's expensive, but at 207gms it's 45% of the weight of the 45-200. So far I can only say it's wonderful. Don't be put off by reviews that say it's a power zoom only - it will also zoom manually - and very smoothly - and without lens creep. I am more than satisfied with the image quality. It isn't a Nikon 24-70, but then neither is the Nikon 18-200. It balances beautifully on the camera, especially because the lens moves internally, so doesn't lengthen when you zoom.I probably won't get the other new Power X lens, the 14-42, because I find it helps me to have just enough weight in the camera to prevent camera shake when I press the shutter. But please Panasonic, bring out a lightweight wide angle Power zoom - I'll be at the front of the queue.

This is one of the must-have Panasonic lenses for m43. I bought the Japanese version in silver from Amazon on import, but it's the same lens optically. There's a lever for zoom, but also a zooming ring that works well. There's also an electronically linked focus ring that works smoothly and reliably. I've subsequently got the Olympus 40-150mm f/2.8, so this old Panasonic has fallen a little by the wayside, but with the release of the Panasonic G80, and the firmware update for this lens to version1.3 allowing it to work collaboratively with the in-body IS of the G80, I can see me using it again as it's so small and enjoyable to use. Results are not bad at all for a zoom lens, particularly in good light.(See attached pics.) I've become a bit critical of lens performance as I'm lucky enough to have some great glass, but this budget X-series lens is very pleasing to use and does give good results, even when cropped fairly tightly. One great feature of the lens is that focusing and zoom is all internal, so it is a really compact lens to use. This lens is light, well-made and always a pleasure to use. It's ability to work with the Dual IS of the G80 (and GH5) is the icing on the cake.

I'm using this lens with a Panasonic DMC-G7 camera. The firmware versions as of November 2015 are 1.2 for the lens and 2.0 for the camera. The lens handles nicely on the G7 and for me it feels more at home than the 14-42 standard lens that came with the G7. Zoom adjustment can be via the power zoom slider or the manual zoom ring, with the focal length shown on the G7 screen or electronic viewfinder. The power zoom is smooth and quiet. Focusing is almost as quick as the 14-42 lens, although I haven't tried tracking shots or video as yet. I believe that the G7 firmware includes automatic adjustment for the lens and there wasn't noticeable vignetting when I used the loupe tool in Silkypix Developer Studio 6 to view RAW images.Images are sharp and have natural colour that is vibrant with the right subjects.I wouldn't have paid the price when this was first marketed, but it's a nice lens and I'm happy to have bought it in 2015.

First class lens. Expensive ? depends where you buy it from. Mine cost me £276.00Sharpness is very good at full aperture reaching max sharpness across the frame at f8. CA is non existent and fall off at the edges minimal. Having a long lens that doe not "trombone " is great. You do not have to use the zoom motor, manual zoom is very fast. However you can set the power zoom to slow medium and fast in the cameras menu. I am using a G5 could not afford the GH3 !!Focus is fast, as are all MFT cameras. There seems to be some confusion regarding OIS on Olympus and Panasonic cameras. On olympus its built into the camera body, not in to their lenses. On Panasonic its built into the lenses, not into the camera. So you can use an Olympus lens on a Panasonic body but it will not have any OIS . On a Olympus body with a Panasonic lens you have to turn off the internal OIS.Hope this helps.

Before I start, I dunno if it's only a problem with my lens or a conception problem. This lens has a big problem with the stabilizer: a focal length of 175mm must speeds below 1/400", and with a maximum aperture to f/5.6,I'll let you judge for its ability to take pictures in cloudy weather even at 1600 ISO .It's a shame because in terms of design, it is a real success: it is compact and lightweight, the zoom motor is a real find and its optical quality is very acceptable.Fixing the hood is not pleasant because it's rubbing plastic against plastic. If a solution is found for the stabilizer then it probably deserves four stars.I made a new test with GH2 and the new lens firmware 1.1: the stabilizer is working, accordingly I change my rating from 1 to 4 stars.

As a Nikon user for more than 40 years I’d reached the point I often couldn’t be bothered to carry my kit. The Panasonic GX80 and this lens have changed all that. I don’t care about, and haven’t even tried to compare, the results using this compared to my Nikon and it’s 70-200 f2.8 Lens. What I do care about is usability and this is streets ahead. Really easy to carry especially as a 90-350mm full frame equivalent, nobody queries taking such a small camera and lens into (say) a live show. So does it give better results than my existing equipment, you bet as I wouldn’t have got the shot at all with that and I’m pleased with the quality too.

This is a premium Panasonic G X series lens and it does look and feel a cut above the regular G series lenses. A huge benefit of this lens is that the Power OIS is compatible with the dual stabilisation on the Panasonic GH5. It is amazing to me that I can hand hold at maximum zoom which is equivalent to a 350mm lens yet still get blur free images at 1/30 second.I am loving the clear sharp images that it produces. Recently I have been filming bees on the comfrey flowers. To produce even closer images I have also used this lens with extension tubes and it then makes a very cheap lens for close-up work.

I bought this Power Zoom lens as an additional ‘environment specific’ long-distance lens for use with my Panasonic GH4 DSLR (and they are a great fit together).I use this lens primarily for video, and the Power Zoom offers smooth zooming functionality and great optics. It is also perfect for both long-range and macro photography. In particular, time-lapse photography. It is also an assuring weight/size, with a premium build quality. The Power Zoom is really the defining feature of the lens, so for this reason I recommend it. Especially to owners of the GH4, to bulk up your optical arsenal.

I have used this lens for the last week and taken over 100 images with it. I am really impressed with the detailed images - significantly better than the Panasonic 45-150mm f4-5.6 which I also own. The zoom reach is great, and the way the zoom works (internally) is superb - it is really quick and it means the lens doesn't extend at all. The barrel coupling to the lens is clearly electronic but the linkage is really well done and hardly noticeable. An excellent lens, and one for me that makes micro 4/3 what it should be - highly portable *and* high quality.

Using one of these Japanese imports did not turn out as cheap as it looked, as only when the order had been place did one get the warnings of import duty, although that was only about £10 the post office added another about £10 to handle it, so the overall cost was not much cheaper than I could got a silver one else where on the internet. I am impressed with the lens, it works even better than I hoped based on the DXO review, it even is fine on my M10 Mk1 2X setting that degrades some of my other lens more noticeably.

I love this lens and keep it perminately attached to my lumix.I like the fact that I can control it manually if needed, and that the lens stays the same length when zooming etc as we all know most telephoto lenses extend themselves when zooming this one doesn't there for no risk of sucking dirt and crap into the lens used in Egypt in the desert couldn't fault it great resolution, used it peru ,no issues even had it tucked inside my biker jacket whilst out and about no issues..Good bit of kit...

What do you go for? Weight? Maximum aperture? Price? Value? Features? Build? Size? This lens is light, decent aperture and good focal range, nice price and great value. It stays the same size at any focal length or focus and the power zoom has proved to be surprisingly handy (and yes it has a zoom ring as well). This is a very good lens lens with a great balance of features that makes for a versatile and portable telephoto zoom in harmony with the micro four thirds design philosophy.

I was initially disappointed as most pictures were not sharp. Then I found that the firmware needed updating, on the lens and on the camera (Olympus E-M1). The newer firmware seems to correct a problem with image stabilization, and enables the electronic shutter function (so no shutter-induced vibration). Now getting good sharp pictures. The price has gone up by about £100 since I bought it, so not such good value any more. Would have been 5* otherwise.

Superb lens, well manufactured, sharp end-to-end and the power zoom works fine with the panasonic phone app too. Considering this is effectively a 350mm zoom on M43 its so light for a lens covering that focal length, highlighting one of the key benefits of the M43 system. As a wildlife photographer with a passion for going off the beaten track, this is likely to become my goto lens due to its quality and portability.
