I have bought this convertor to accompany my 70 - 200 vr2 f2.8 and d300s. I wanted extra reach for bird photography and lacked the budget for the pro glass of this reach and wanted to continue using my "pro-glass" 70 - 200 f2.8. I think it is important to state that at the start, i can not vouch for results on differant or older products, i would be cautious using this on a slower lens and please check the nikon compatability of lenses. I have not had this for long but thought i would pass on my experiences so far.I find the results wide open at 5.6 (as it reduces the lens by 2 stops) very sharp, easily on a par with the 1.4 i was using (shooting handheld). Stopped down they are even more impressive.I was very pleasently supprised. I have bought a 2x before and been so unhappy with the results never used it. I will continue to use this and print the results at a3 size. I appreciate to a pro the image quality will not be on a par with the top pro glass but who can really afford that. As a keen amatuer and believe me very obsessed with sharpness I am delighted with my purchase so far.I have never written a review before but i deliberated on buying this for so long and was frustrated by the lack of reviews i could find to advise me I decided to take the plunge and very happy i did and thought other people with a similiar dilemar may find my experience helpfull.I would recommend this product although expensive it is top quality and i have been very impressed with the results and when you consider the alternative being the 200 - 400 f4 at 5k or a 400 f2.8 at closer to 6 it seems a very good buy.

Sorry I didnt purchase this from Amazon but I thought my experience might be useful to other potential buyers..I Had the misfortune to suffer a stroke a few years ago, which means I am not able to zoom any more. I passed my pro zooms to my son who makes excellent use of them. I have now set about buying prime lenses again and this converter in conjunction with the 105mm macro f2.8 is absolute magic for a guy with one arm. It focuses correctly despite Nikon saying it shouldnt. It is slightly less sharp than the 1.4x which is slightly less sharp than the lens alone but I'm talking AO blow ups regullarly which my 800e manages quite comfortably at 2000iso.I am now waiting for the new 300mm f4 which from all the results I've seen will mean I will be able to hand hold one handed with the equivalent of a 600mm albeit at f8 but with 2000iso who cares we do have some sunny days in the uk!!.When you buy this converter assuming compatability you are effectively doubling the number of lenses you own if they are good primes so £400 seens like a bargin to me and as a bonus the close focus distance doesnt change!! The included photo of the low flying bird of prey was taken with my favorite combination of the 105 f2.8 with the 2x tc on a D800e set at 2000iso. The file here is reduced to a small jpeg but the original fine jpeg is quite happy at AO size.

Works surprising well. I have 4 compatible lenses which all autofocus with this converter even on older bodies. The lenses I use it with are 105 f2.8 macro which does autofocus even though Nikon compatibility chart say it does not (not tested for macro work). It also works well with my 70-200 f4, 300 f2.8 VRII and even under indoor lighting with my recently procured 300 f4 PF. I already owned the 1.4 TC II and 1.7 TCII converters and certainly with the f4 lenses autofocus does noticeably slow down with each subsequent size of converter. What surprised me was that even my old bodies D50, D300 and D700 still work with my f4 lenses plus this 2X converter even though their AF is only rated to f5.6 and the D500 was only slightly faster in its ability to focus. While there is some slight trade of in sharpness I find the combination of 300 f4 PF and this converter gives a light and very useable equivalent 600 f8 which can be handheld in good light using fast shutter speeds on my D500 with increased ISO. Works even better with the 300 f2.8 but becoming heavy and really needs support.

I have had many teleconverters in the past 1.4, 1.7 and the previous 2 x versions of this teleconverter, using them with the 70-200 f2.8 Vr11 and the 300mm f2.8 Vr1 lenses for that extra bit of reach all bird and wildlife photographers crave. In the past the results when using the older 2 x converters have been very soft and disappointing compared to the 1.4 & 1.7 versions and even my 300mm f2.8 sometimes struggled for quick focus in low light conditions. This new version however is a real step up, it focuses quickly with none of the hunting and provides excellent sharp images and as a result is a massive improvement on whats gone before.Although quite expensive it converts your 70-200 to a 140-400 lens at a fraction of the cost of a 200-400 lens with the loss of a few stops, but believe me at f6.3 or f8 the combination is as sharp as knife. All in all this new version works very well, but check the Nikon lens compatibility before you purchase, as it won't always auto focus with many f4 + lenses.

I bought this teleconverter specifically for use between my D700 & 70-200mm f2.8 VRII. Although quite expensive for a teleconverter, it's much cheaper than buying a longer zoom lens, despite the loss of two stops. There is some drop in quality & f8 (f4 x2) is often required to get some sharpness into the corners but this converter is about as good as a x2 converter will ever be.Nikon also make x1.4 & x1.7 versions that are both smaller & lose less aperture than 2 stops.

Excellent teleconverter. I use it with the Nikkor 70-200 f4 and it works perfectly. Picture quality is great. Only thing to be careful about befote purchasing it is to check its compatibility with the lenses you plan to use it with. It has a protruding front element and a special lens mount that make it only mount certain lenses. Here are some that DON'T work with it: Nikkor 14-24 f2.8, Nikkor 50 f1.4G, Tamron 24-70 f2.8 VC, photodiox T-mount to Nikon adapter.

I just love this tele Converter. The only drawback is that i may have to resort to manually focus, using some lenses. In fact, with an f/4 lens, it becomes very difficult using Automatic Focus( with the Tele Converter Mounted), unless You are using a Professional Camera. The quality of the pictures is superb. This is far better than previous release II and all defects have been solved.Enjoy it :-)

Great adaptor, have retired my 1.7x one as it was old. Optics are great as you'd expect from Nikon, I use F2.8 lenses, so F5.6 isn't bad.I keep it in my bag all the time, and use it regularlyPaid £329, guess Brexit is to blame for the increase.

Great piece of kit which allows me to turn my 70-200mm zoom lens into a 140-400mm zoom lens. This means I can now do wildlife photography much easier than before owning the teleconverter.

At this price you would expect a quality product - and that whats Nikon gives. Excellent value in doubling the focal length of you original lens. Recommended.

I have found the Nikon TC-20E iii AF-S teleconverter very usefull. I take it with me every time I go out to take bird photo's.

I have used this now on a few different lenses, and after some fine tuning, the image quality has been excellent.
