My daughter is jigsaw mad at the moment and so this box of four jigsaws is perfect for taking out and about with us to keep her amused if for example eating out somewhere and obviously it's perfect for at home too. My son who isn't as jigsaw bonkers as my daughter also loves it because it features dinosaurs and this is one of the only jigsaws he really is interested in.Each jigsaw has 12 pieces and when built they measure 11.8cm by 17.4cm each. There are four dinosaur designs; Triceratops, Stegosaurus, Tyrannosaurus Rex and a yellow Apatosaurus/Brontosaurus and they are each made from wood which is approx 3mm thick. They each have a different shape on the back of their respective designs; circle, square, triangle and diamond to help identify them rather than having to try and work out which pieces belong to which design or of course this could be one way to make the jigsaws a bit more of a challenge for your child as they get older. They come in a wooden box which has four internal sections to keep the jigsaws separated and the box lid can also be used to build the jigsaws on too. Of course as with most wooden jigsaws there are a few sawdust and splinter pieces that come off the jigsaws on the first couple of uses and so I just built and re-built them a few times before giving them to my daughter which got all of the loose pieces off.I love Melissa & Doug toys and always turn to them rather than even ELC toys nowadays and as usual this is made to the normal high quality that all of my purchases of this brand have been. This set is brilliant and has saved us from having a bored child out at a restaurant so many times and is wonderfully made. I have no doubt that I will end up getting some of the other versions that are available in the near future and we also have the

I have bought it in 2014 and so far the quality seems quite good. The pictures look painted directly on wood -- not glued-on pieces of paper. Puzzle pieces fit together nicely. They are a bit thin, so a very determined 2 year old might snap them, but you are supposed to watch 2yo playing with it anyway. Anyway, there were no such attempts from both of my daughters. Being made from wood some splinters appears on the edges, particularly if pieces are 'forced to fit'. But again, I did not have a cause for concern so far. Box will almost certainly crack, if dropped from the table to the hard floor, but wouldn't?As to 'playability' and 'educational value' they both are excellent.I showed this puzzle to girls about a month before their 2nd birthday and they grasped the idea pretty fast (they were confidently assembling 4-pieces jigsaw puzzles by that time). 3 months later they are still enjoying it -- trying to assemble them almost every evening after dinner. They are close to assemble them completely on their own by now. Finally, as there are four puzzles in box, if you are (un)lucky enough to get twins you can get away with buying a single set for both of them. I introduced first two puzzles, then another two in couple of weeks to maintain interest. I certainly going to buy at least one more set (of different animals) in near future.

These nice bright dinosaur puzzles are regularly enjoyed by my daughter! Being a puzzle person, she has been doing these for a while (she's now 2.5 and got them for xmas) so I think the age of 3 yrs old is high though it depends on the child's interests. It is lasting well- one piece lost a small sliver of wood from the underside but the pictures are still pretty immaculate, which is impressive for a toddler puzzle! It did start off fairly stiff to use and a little rough around some edges (not badly so) so it was hard to put together and to take apart, but with use it has loosened and the edges have rounded off. Each puzzle has its own section in the box but with one lid for the whole box, invariably all the pieces get tipped out together. But this happens with our multi puzzle gruffalo set which we have put in separate bags. And unlike the cardboard gruffalo set we brought, these come with a separate mark on the back of each piece of each puzzle so they are v easy to tidy up (I used a biro to do the same on the gruffalo one but nice this came pre done!). The pictures of the puzzle on the box are small, but given our daughter doesn't really use them to do the puzzles, this doesn't really matter.

My 2 1/2 year old can't get enough of puzzles! This, the 'Melissa & Doug Vehicle Puzzles in a box' is the most recent addition to our collection. There are other boxes in the range including pets, dinosaurs & farm animals, but my daughter loves wheels so chose this one! Each box includes 4 x 12 piece wooden jigsaw puzzles. This set has a fire engine, a train, a school bus & a racing car. Each vehicle has a different shape on the back (diamond, square, circle, triangle) and the box has 4 compartments 1 for each puzzle. My daughter is able to complete each puzzle on her own & sort them according to their shape she just needs a little help putting the pieces in the compartment so that the lid can slide on,did I say lid? Finally a Melissa & Doug toy with a LID!!! Great for storage & taking on days out, this comes everywhere with us, to restaurants, friends houses & on holiday. There are also some ideas on the bottom of the box for 'extension activities' that you can do e.g "Ask the child to tell a story based on the picture". Can't recommend more highly enough.

Just wanted to post a review because there were a few negative feedbacks against this item, like rough edges etc.The design first - as a lot of other reviews say these are very well thought out. The pieces fit together really well and you can pick up and move the completed puzzles without them falling apart. Love that you can assemble the puzzles on the lid, this helps my 2.5 year old understand where the edges and corners go. The construction machinery is also a massive hit with him - lovely illustrations. The quality of this item is exceptional. The edges are all very well smoothed with no risk of splinters for small fingers. Not sure if other buyers got theirs from different sellers or something...always go direct I guess?Value is also incredible. At £2 per puzzle you really can't go wrong, you're doing well to find cardboard puzzles at that price and this will last far far longer. I'd happily pay double for this!

Good price for a very nice quality little set, with fun colourful pictures. The storage box is divided into quarters for keeping the jigsaws separate - to which, of course, our 2-and-a-quarter-year-old pays no attention. Melissa & Doug have thought of this, so each set has a different shape stamped in red on the back. This is a very good idea, but the square looks too similar to the diamond - so a slight improvement would be to use different colour stamps or not use such similar shapes. It would also be nice to include more (any?) info about what these dinosaurs actually *are* on the packaging. I think I saw this info on the website, but it would be handy to have it physically on the box for people like me,who aren't very dinosaur literate! Minor quibbles though, and all in all I'd definitely recommend these.

My 3 year old loves this and the other M&D puzzles we got him. The pictures are bright and cheerful, and the pieces feel pretty durable. They're printed with a symbol on the back of each one so you can easily sort the pieces according to which puzzle they're for. However, the pieces and box could use a little bit more finish - the wood has some quite sharp splinters in places, and there's enough of a gap between the top of the compartment dividers and the lid of the box that if the box is shaken or turned over, the pieces get all mixed up. There's also quite a strong smell - not sure if it's the wood or paint or a sealant or what. It's not unpleasant, but it is a little odd.Still,it was inexpensive and my son has a blast putting the puzzles together, so I'd still recommend it.

These are great quality jigsaws and good level for 2.5 year old who enjoys making them. We have bought several different themes. What I like:1. Made from wood, sturdy and good quality - can be bit of a challenge to connect/unconnect pieces as stiff but I like this for developing fine motor skills2. Each puzzle theme has a different shape printed on the back of its individual piece to easily identify pieces if jumbled up (circle, diamond, square, triangle)3. Comes with a box and lid for storage with 4 individual departments for each puzzle4. Lid can be used as a surface to build the puzzle which fits one puzzle perfectly when assembled5. Small and compact (point 3) for storing and travelling6.Bright artwork with recognisable illustrations

These puzzles are great. The box is a good size to make it portable, so it can come out with us, but the pieces are nice, sturdy and wooden. They fit together well and because they're so sturdy, my two year old can't bend them. The pictures (of dinosaurs) are lovely and my son really likes them. The pieces of the four different puzzles are identified by different shapes on the back, which means it's easy for me to sort them and has the added advantage that my son is learning the shapes. The puzzles also fit on the top of the box when doing them, which I think is great. My only criticism is that I'd have liked a tiny bit of educational information, perhaps on the top.For example telling us what the dinosaurs are called.

This is an awesome set. My 3 year old loves jigsaws and is dinosaur crazy. How perfect can you get?! The 4 jigsaws are well made and colourful. They come in a wooden box with 4 compartments to place the pieces. The only grumble I have with this is that, unlike in the picture, there is no picture on the lid of the finished jigsaws. It is on the base of the box. This means that you have to have the lid on to give you a guide. Great for adults to remember but kids forget, turn the box upside down and all the other puzzle pieces fall out. Also it means that the box is very plain. All in all well worth buying if you have a jigsaw dinosaur crazy child.

Substantial wooden puzzles that fit well together and are sturdy. The four puzzles have four corners of the box to put them in so you don't have to assemble the puzzle when you want to put them away which is a great advantage. Also each puzzle has a shape to code them on the back so you know which pieces go with which puzzle. Pictures are lovely and the four images are on the side of the box for reference. Once your little one has mastered 4 or 6 pieces these are easy enough to move on to. My little girl loves these, she is 3 and can do these no probs but needs a bit of help with the 48 piece pirate puzzle which is also good.

I had bought several of these puzzles for my twin daughters when they were 2 years old. All of them are just perfect for this age group (at least in my experience). First children get used to idea of assembling the whole picture from the pieces, then soon they become able to assemble the whole puzzle on their own.The quality of the puzzle is very good, nice box to store pieces. Additional bonus -- puzzle elements are marked at the back to help with sorting them to correct compartments. This feature also allows to introduce the new conception to children.Overall I recommend this product without hesitation.

These puzzles are really well made and thought out. Inside the box, under the little tray to do the puzzle on, it is divided into sections and each puzzle is in pieces in each section. So that you know which pieces belong together the back of the puzzle is marked with a circle, a square, a triangle and so on - what a clever idea!!! My four year old grandson loves these puzzles and Nanny will be buying some more of them for him. Well done to the person who put such a lot of thought into this educational, well made, brightly coloured puzzle!! Oh, and the price is excellent as well!

On the box it states for 3+ I bought them for my grandson of 27months, he absolutely loves them.Four wooden puzzles that are very colorfully illustrated, all 4 puzzles are cut the same so the child can easily get them mixed up, but that is not a problem as he soon got the hang of rebuilding the puzzles, I purposely build the puzzles all mixed up only to be told Oh Gramps that is the wrong way, them he proceeds to show me how it should be done, the sizes of each puzzle is 17. 4 x 11.8 and come in a very handy compartmentalized wooden box. EXELLENT is all I have to add
