I am a collector of flashlight, whenever i see flashlight that are small, convinient to keep in pocket and with good quality, i will buy it. Also, i am a Malaysian chinese, in malaysia its hard to find stores that are selling these types of small sized flashlight. So, i came to Amazon, and see this, the Maglite xl50.This Maglite xl50 looks very cool, it has a nice cool black, and with a size that is not too big or too small, which will be very easy to hold while using it.It uses a easy-to-find AAA batteries, and i prefer Energizer Lithium batteries, which will last longer. The lumens are high and its enough for indoor use (sometimes i did feel that the light output is too strong for indoor use, maybe its more suitable for outdoors activities like camping or hiking?)One of the disadvantages are, Maglite xl50 did get sctratched easily. I can see some visible scratch on it even i did not drop it and always uses it gently.I also bought several numbers of flashlight which are made in China, and i know most of the cheap products that made in China is not as good as some of the other countries's one. But i did bought some good one, which are not selling in Amazon, which is called "Pop-light P30", slightly shorter than Maglite xl50, and with a full stainless steel body and glass lens that looks extremely solid. The lumens are about the same, but weight is heavier and with a long strap that feels more 'safety' while using it and not worrying to drop it accidentlly.Maglite xl50 is good, but it will be perfect and more convinient if it comes with a strap. And if Maglite xl50 came with a slightly-smaller size but still the same power and material, im sure it will be more attrative.(sorry for my bad english)

This is another quality Maglite product. Made in the US even. The founder was featured on a recent TV program. Still is out on the factory floor checking things out.I own three big D-Cell and a couple of small AAA models and had no good reason to buy this except I have been curious for a long time as to how good LED lights are these days. And it is perfect for the garage and in the car for trips. What it can't do is function as a weapon like the big heavy D-cells. I used one to whack a big raccoon which was attacking a chicken I was chicken-sitting. Really. After a couple of serious baseball-quality swings the raccoon finally let go and waddled off, although it clearly was thinking of coming back at me.Maybe I would have been able to strobe the raccoon away with the XL50...it scares dogs.Anyway, this is a very nicely made and bright as heck light. That pure white light is better for seeing things. It is O-ringed for duty in the rain and the battery cartridge thing is interesting. The button is a bit stiff, but I have never had a Maglite button fail and that is more important. I use rechargeable Enloop and Amazon batteries so I am set there. The low-light setting is useful for peering down inside things where a bright light is too much.I once found a 5-pack of LED lights for $7.00! Used them as stocking stuffers as Christmas, but those where just garbage really, not nearly as good in any way as the Maglite. Still, that cheap Chinese stuff is everywhere and I hope Maglite can stay in business selling quality products made here.

This is a great little flashlight. I purchased it to keep in my nightstand. I have the Mag 3D cell. Love that too, but it took up a lot of room in the drawer. So I replaced that with the 2AA Maglite, hated the twist on/off of that.I purchased the XL50 and I have found myself using this over the 3D all the time! I cannot believe how bright it is. It is a perfect size for my hands, although i am a smaller guy, it is very light and the rear thumb on/off is GREAT. Way better design than the twist-on on the 2 AA Mag we are all used too.I was originally concerned with the battery life. Using only 3 AAA, I was not sure how it will hold its brightness.I have not had it long enough (less than 2 weeks)to really comment, but I have been playing with it and using it quite a bit and notice no change to brightness. My 3D LED is GREAT battery life. I think it has more to do with this new LED light. Which, btw, I have found that MAG lite is the only manufacturer who has gotten it right. I have a Huskie so-called "LED". the ones with the six LED probes that you always see at the cashier at the hardware store, DO NOT confuse the Maglite LED with those cheap things!Overall, I am very impressed with the little guy. Would and have recommended this to many. If you need a bright compact little light, I don't see any better option. Definitely worth the $30.

I bought this torch because I walk everywhere and am out and about quite a lot during the dark winter mornings and evenings; I wanted something compact but far more powerful than the standard smaller maglites which, while cheap, and very well made for the price offer a somewhat limited amount of light. It is worth every penny.I stayed away from the older XL100 model because I'd heard it was overcomplicated and offered too many modes; the XL50 has no such issues. There are three modes, activated by clicking the button once, twice or three times. Full power, which is astoundingly bright and clearly illuminates objects up to 200 metres away while also offering a good spread of light while pointed at the ground.Half power, which is still good for walking and gets around the problem of blinding people walking towards you and strobe, which is excellent if you need to be seen, perhaps if you were walking along a road without a pavement.I've found the battery life to be more than sufficient and have noticed no reduction in brightness even after several hours of continuous use.In short, if you want something powerful but don't want to lug some 2 or 3 D battery monster around with you then this is the torch for you.

I like it... seems to be well built... the thickness of the metal seems a lot thinner than the old style maglite but seems to be sturdy enough for the application. Compared to a regular flashlight, it is insanely bright on the high setting. Surprisingly the flood adjustment works well for an LED, I didn't think it would. I'd say the low setting is probably comparable to a normal flashlight brightness. I don't care for the switch in that I'd say they have a very small microprocessor in there somewhere to control the light levels and read the switch button.... and the downside of that is that even with the microcontroller in a sleep state you're still going to get a small battery drain....I would have preferred an old style switch without the microcontroller. But functionally the switch/microcontroller works well. Time will tell how long the batteries last for my usage. The size of it is pretty good.... definitely small enough to put in a pocket.

This is a great flashlight, with good battery consumption, outstanding lighting power for such a small size and very easy to handle and operate. I had one like this before, but i gave it away to my mother so she could have a real flashlight for once. It's evident that i was very happy with my original purchase because i decided to purchase a second one.The quality/performance/price ratio is sensational and a i have to say that LED technology is what makes this little thing a monster. The light it emits is potent, clear, and far reaching. The fact you don't have to be replacing light bulbs does not hurt either. In addition, to back its very solid design, materials and construction,it has a very good guarantee and customer service right here, in the USA. Aside, for all of you tired of having everything made in China or somewhere else (no offense intended), this little wonder is made in the USA and sold at a very reasonable price.

I bought (with Amazon Rewards) an XL50 and XL200 because I'm a flashlight nut-job. Looks like the XL50 wins. The XL50 has a tighter, brighter, farther shooting beam. The spot brightness on the 200 isn't as bright/white regardless of a higher lumen rating. Appears Maglite went for a little wider "flood-ier" spot (explains lower beam distance). If you want a bright white beam the last 8-ish hours and 36 hours on low -- a simple on, low, strobe flashlight, the XL50 is the choice. If you want other features like; night-light, SOS, Signal (cumbersome), infinite adjustable brightness, and a slightly wider beam, the XL200 is the choice.Keep in mind It appears the XL50 is brighter of the two with 8.5 hours bright time as apposed to 2.5 bright time with the XL200, so to extend the battery life you need to decrease brightness (point?). The XL200 is a better survival type flashlight than a go-to flashlight.

This is a great USA made flashlight that offers 104 lumens of very bright light (my 6 D Maglite pales in comparison). I also have the XL200 model and I like the simplicity of the click button on this one. Simple is better when under stress and you can't go wrong with this flashlight. I've always liked MAG-LITES and now that they've upgraded their technology, I can see myself continuing to support this fine company for many years to come. I appreciate the fact that it's powered by 3 AAA batteries rather than the harder to find lithium CR123 or the button batteries. The plastic cage is made of a flexible polymer that is much more durable than the competition. I also appreciate the fact that the body is constructed of tough, durable aluminum that could be used as a striking aid when held like a roll of quarters in the palm of a fist. I see about 3 more of these in my near future.

Rugged little flashlight puts out plenty of light for walking the dog at night or even lighting up objects in partial light. I used this flashlight extensively while house shopping to peer into cracks, crawl spaces, and holes. The lower light setting is still quite effective and I have had good results with alkaline and rechargeable NiMH batteries. The only caveat I have experienced so far is putting the battery cage back in correctly after changing batteries. There is an arrow depicting the correct orientation, but it is embossed in the matte plastic; tricky to see sometimes. No worries though, if you put it in and the flashlight doesn't come on,you probably just need to flip the cage and reassemble.I've dropped this flashlight numerous times. It has sustained some nicks in the finish and a little scratching on the lens, but still performs as it did when new.

Very, very bright LED. Easy activation switch.Three light modes easily selected (full power, reduced power and strobe)and very useful. My complaint would be the length of the unit. Just a bit cumbersome. Look kind of massive for what it is. But the brightness makes up for it.Mount the light on a 12 guage pump shotgun. The light wouldn't make a good pocket light...too large and the On/Off button would be too easily pushed On.Absolutely bright (shines an easy 45 yards/ 135 ft plus++)Perfect for glove compartment, camping, night stand drawer, tool box and for prefessions like Tow Truck Operators, Security Officers, Auto Mechanics, etc.The strobe function is really neat.It could be use to disorientation of an intruder or used to gain attention if in need for assistance.

I am currently serving in Afghanistan and decided to buy this light after I saw one of my buddies using. I was amazed by how bright it was, especially being so very small. It was perfect for what I wanted, which was a good small light to keep on me while I worked at night.I have had it a few months now and use it fairly often. It is super bright, even at a distance on the full setting. I tend to always use the dim setting because it is plenty of light and saves on the batteries. The dim setting on this light is brighter than a lot of other regular flashlights I see other guys using. The casing has held up extremely well to the hot dusty environment of Afghanistan for the few months I have had it.It fits almost perfectly into

After a lot of research, I decided to buy Maglite xl50 for our 2 wk Kenya trip, and my husband and I loved it. here is why:- It is very small and fits into my pocket easily.- very quality built and material.- The light are really bright. We used it at various camps in Kenya. Our light is brighter than the much bigger flash lights used by the staff at the camps. The light has a nice cone shape and light up the area in front nicely.- Very easy to use: twist once, bright light, twist twice, dim light. In our tent, we used the flash light to read as the light in the tents are too weak. The dim light setting worked perfectly.- It uses 3 regular AAA batteries. All in all, there is nothing to complain and we highly recommend it!

This XL50 is a great edc flashlight! I opened the package and held the light and it feels great and it's lite. I love the 3 different modes it comes in. The full power, 25% and the strobe. this light can be used for your home or edc. It's a good compact size. I'm not a fan of key size lights, those you can loose or break easily. The XL50 can take some drops and it's also water proof. Only uses 3 aaa batteries which is also perfect size for carry extras. I've used it around the house and at the ranch it gives off alot of light. Definitely buying more! i only wish they would create a lanyard attachemnt that could be flush with the slick design, thats the only thing missing.Thats why I only gave it stars.

For a rather long time, Maglite would not join the LED game, while you could buy a whole slew of $2-$30 Chinese-made LED lights. Save up the money for this light and not only because it is "Made in the USA." The machining, fitting and the general design are all there on this one. Actually, skip the sibling XL100 or XL200 - too frilly. Simple, three mode, button-click work of industrial art. This is my second one as the first was a gift to someone and I simply did not want to experiment around with other brands. I do have a smaller Fenix light and it is actually a decent piece of kit, but if you are looking for a classic model from a classic brand - give this one a shot.

Made in America, so the people who make this flashlight can buy what your company makes. This light is of excellent quality, just what I am looking for to put in my fishing pack as I lose track of time on the stream or pond, and I am caught out after dark. Very inexpensive AAA batteries that are available anywhere and it throws a great amount of light. With the multiple settings you can get very bright light to see a long way or a lower setting to extend the battery life. The head twists to change from flood to spot to cover most any situation. The only thing I wish it had is a lanyard to safely attach it where I need to. I will be buying another Maglite soon.
