For freaking $16 you cannot beat this 4D Maglight! I wanted a 3D Maglight, but at the time it was twice the price as the 4D, it was kinda weird that it was that much more expensive, but I am Very happy I got the 4D Light! Now even though I love all Maglights and everyone else does too.. I gotta give it 4 Stars Because of the actual light they put out.. Everyone that has a Maglite. Or Looking for a Maglight, You Have to buy a Drop In LED to go into your Maglite. You will open your light and feel how big this light is, it is a big size without being Ridiculously Big. This isn't something that you would openly carry at all times or on your person often, but this is something that you could store in your Car or House and you would have a great weapon/ light.. This is a big size but not crazy, it is big enough so that you would be able to actually hurt someone with this light. It is a great size to use as a Baton, and With it's 4D Batteries Installed, it's is No Question that you could bust someone pretty hard, maybe breaking bones or cracking skulls in the process. (Which is all very dangerous, and Very Illegal unless it is self defense, protecting yourself, family, or property..)But, if you are using this as a good big flashlight, you Have to Spend $10-$15 on a Drop in LED Upgrade for the light.. You will Be very happy at the benefit of the $10-$15 LEDs over the stock bulbs..I went ahead and bought a Terralux Drop in LED and I was very Pissed when I found out that it Would Not Fit into my Light... I don't know if it will fit most 3-4D Maglight, and it just wouldn't fit a certain year or model, But it Wouldn't Fit into my 4D MaglightUNTIL, I took a Knife and started Shaving Down slivers of the metal off of the Inner circle Lamp Retaining Cap piece that Screws On Top of the Unit (it screws the bulb unit into the flashlight to hold it in place)(It was a good thing that it was an Easy Fix, It was Just that the little Retaining piece Did Not Fit over a tiny part of the Original Bulb Unit)The New LED Unit is a wider piece overall, So when you Try and Screw it onto the Light, the Hole on Top Was Not Wide Enough to Screw Over the New LED Bulb Unit , But By Shaving the Inner Circle Out for a Little Bit, You Can Make the Hole on the Retaining Cap Piece just big Enough to fit over the New Unit, and It Will Fit Over and Screw it down into the Llight, and it will still be able to fit over the Original Bulb Unit if you ever have to switch back...!!So it's kind of a Quick fix to the Drop In LED, But You Will Be Very Happy When you Screw your Light together and Turn On Your Flashlight, you Will See A HUGE Difference with the New LED Compared to the Original Bulb..So Finally: This 4D Maglight is an Awesome Light, the Weight and Size are Both Pros and Cons.. It is Big And Heavy Enough that You Will Not Carry This Flashlight With You Everywhere, and You Will Not Probably Use This Light as Your Primary Light Either...But..You Will Love This Light And the Amount of Light that You Get When You Upgrade to a New LED, Even as a Weapon for Self Defense, or Home defense, it can be your main flashlight in your home or car but it's just too big to randomly carry it around..get upgraded LEDs for your Maglites and you will Love your Maglites even better!!4 stars, but 5 stars with the Extra Drop in LED...

Anyone who lives as far out in the rural countryside as I do gets accustomed to power interruptions, whether they are due to downed power lines from ice storms, someone hitting a key telephone pole and knocking out a transformer, or is the result of one of the occassional electrical storms we have during the warmer months of the year. In any and all of these circumstances I can always depend on my collection of mag-lights to see me through the darkness of the house in order to light my well-used candles and oil lamps until the power is finally restored. I also have one in each of my two trucks, and when I recently narrowly missed hitting a startled deer late at night and went off the road into a muddy field, the trusty mag light was invaluable in helping me find a winching point to pull myself out of the muddy gully. So, whether it is a venture down into the blackened hole my basement becomes late at night, or finding my way to the bathroom in the middle of the night, I can always depend on my mag lights to candle-power my way wherever I am going. I have three or four of the larger ones like the one displayed here, but actually have more than five or six of the smaller ones as well. I love mine, and although I seem to misplace at least one or two a year, I always have an ample supply of both mag-lights and replacement batteries because I find they are absolutely essential out here in the woods. Get one today.

I've owned a few 4-cell maglites over a period of 27 years. They are extremely durable and produce an incredible amount of illumination. By simply twisting the head, you can go from floodlight to spot very quickly. They are very water resistant as well. During my past line of work, my maglite also served as an effective alternative baton. You will find many detractors that write about how the (Maglite) technology is outdated, and that products from SureFire and Streamlight are superior in utilizing new super-bright LED technology, and in energy efficiency. This is all true. But there are counterpoints to these statements. One is that the more modern LED products tend to be very expensive (some of them top $250.00),where a 4 cell maglite will run you about $25.00 S&H included. Second is that I didn't see one of the LED products offered that was durable or heavy enough to second as a weapon. The only drawbacks are if you are a boater, maglites definitely do not float if dropped overboard. If you are a back packer, I wouldn't recommend this due to weight issues. I would recommend the mini-maglite instead which also offers great illumination, the same flood to spot feature, and is very durable and water-resistant, but is much lighter (it only needs two AA cells). Aside from that, I couldn't be happier. They are the best flashlights you can get for the price.

When you buy a flashlight for whatever reason, you basically have 2 choices: A cheap Walmart flashlight that breaks after a few months, or an indestructible Maglite. I really wish I had this maglite handy back when Hurricane Ike hit down in Texas and we were out of power for like 2 weeks. I would recommend anyone have a flashlight like this in case of emergency, power outage, or natural disaster. The whole thing, with batteries in it, is very hefty and solid - and feels like it could withstand quite a beating. The pictures on amazon don't do this flashlight justice - it is much larger than it looks. I'm not sure how long exactly, but it's about 15 or 16 inches (maybe) long. The beam is VERY bright, and twisting the lens can focus the beam or expand it out for wider visibility.I know I can't quite convey this in a text review, but trust me when I say that this flashlight is the most solid flashlight that I've ever owned. No part of this flashlight is plastic or cheap, it feels like it was made to withstand anything you can throw at it. I keep this flashlight handy in case of a power outage, or if I need to work on my car at night. This flashlight does *not* come with batteries so make sure you pick up 4 D-cells with it.

recently had a racoon come in the house a couple times and eat my cat food, so i was looking to buy something to smack it with if i heard my cat screaming at it in the middle of the night. first i was looking at a 31" collapsible baton, but decided i wanted a basic club with a built-in flashlight (nifty feature, that)pros: can take a beating like nothing else i own. great for hitting things, removing ice from the side of my freezer, and bludgeoning just about anything. Oh the built-in light works great too, very adjustable to light up a whole room or just blind the heck out of an animal or person before you bash their brains in.cons: not made of some kind of completely indestructible material (it PRACTICALLY is,just not LITERALLY). besides that, it's absolutely perfect, batteries last for-bloody-ever and even the lamp part does, plus it has a spare lamp bulb under the spring in the bottom!overall - completely worth it, whether you need a club with integrated flash light, or flash light with integrated club (they're all features)

Granted, I haven't had it long, but I already have many reasons to love this light.First off, loading the batteries into the light was extremely easy. The end twists off, and all the batteries go in the same direction (the spring is on the end cap). The spring itself is very strong, and does make it a bit tricky to screw back together, but I'm thankful for that - the spring won't be bending/breaking anytime soon. The button is one of those rubber-capped buttons. I usually worry about these types of buttons on flashlights but this one clicks with no problems, and I'm confident that it will last. The flashlight itself is heavy and made of a strong metal. Ideal for rugged work and exploration, and will survive bumps and falls. In emergency situations, I can tell this light would be handy, possibly even life-saving.The beam of light is bright and reaches quite a distance. I am confident this flashlight will last me a good while, and I wouldn't hesitate to purchase another as a gift.

This was purchased for me for a present after my other 3 cell was stolen at work.At first I thought it was a little big but once it's in your hand it really doesn't feel that much bigger than my old 3 cell!Being a 4 cell, the beam is cracking! Seems to cast a much brighter beam than my 3 cell and for a much greater distance. Overall I am more than pleased with this one.Having 4 D batteries inside makes it a little heavy if you hang it from a belt or like, but holding it in your hand is not that bad.I think the downside would be replacing those 4 D batteries. Not that cheap. I am lucky that I can aquire the batteries from work at no cost at the moment. As for the batteries,I have not used the torch that much to say if they drain quickly or not, but then , that depends on which batteries you use.To finish, it is comfortable to hold and the quality is great too.

I've been looking for a better flashlight that won't eat batteries and is ready when you need it. My dad always had Maglites in about 3 different sizes. a little one in his tool box, a big one behind the seat and a medium in his boat box. They used to only have black and his always used to look a little dinged, scratched and chipped. That is because 'ol fumbles used to drop them down elevator shafts. Yeah, he worked on elevators. Ones in tall buildings. If he wanted to see all the way to the bottom, the Mag with Krypton bulb was the way to go he said. I always thought they would be 60, 80 or $100. Lucky me, I got this baby blue for a steal at $14!! Built like a battleship, yet lightweight and can take a beating.(Sounds like my ex-wife! just kidding) If you need a great flashlight and/or you are scared of the dark, buy this one. It doubles as a weapon.

this light is $60 to $70 in LED From Maglite. Thats just dumb $35 is reasonable. But if you can't get the LED buy the Krypton bulb Maglite and then purchase the TerraLUX 140 lumen LED together thats about $35. These bulbs last "forever" and the battery life is about 72hrs. I got my truck stuck in some sand in Where else but Sand Canyon CA 15" deep sand at 4pm in the afternoon. I used one of my flashlights until about 1AM trying to get unstuck, I failed. I set up camp and the next day I got out at around 1PM. But the light was invaluable combating the darkness in the middle of the desert, it was so black you could see your hand on the end of your arm.But the Maglite shined an exteremely helpful beam that allowed me to assess the seriousness of the problem. I slept good that night in my tent and sleeping bag purchased right here on Amazon. thanks Amazon

The thing just flat out works anytime you need it to. Mag lights are very long lasting as is evident by my 10 year old 3 cell one which I've only changed the batteries for twice. I fully expect this 4 cell to last longer. It's construction is as solid as my old one with no degradation in their standards or quality. The beam is bright but not offensive and I can put a light down the street no problem. In the woods at night this is easily good enough to be rescued by helicopter. In fact every creature in the woods will know you turned it on. You can even beep out Morse code. Not going into boring specs and such. Not my area. It's worth it, plain and simple.I would recommend when you get it to put a touch of Vaseline in all the threads. Helps with smoothness and longevity but not required at all.

Brightness is subjective. Some say this torch is bright. It is, to them... but I'd love to show them the power of a modern LED torch!I had to have a Mag in my collection. I'm glad I bought one. But this torch is so 1990's. Technology has moved on. I have torches that are a fraction of the size that produce ten times the light, even £5 LED torches outperform this icon from the past. But, this torch is a sturdy baton-like implement in a dangerous world, which will also meet your expectations for illumination, as long as you don't expect much! It still has a place. If you want to own a classic, sturdy Mag, and can accept its limitations, then buy one! If you need a bright light, look elsewhere,or at least be prepared to spend extra on an LED conversion.

As like most who work in the Public sector. The Maglite is often chosen as the ideal light provider. This torch is robust gives a good range and angle of light. For its size is quite light weight. Although it is primary a torch. In the past I have used it as a defensive tool. One night whilst on a patrol 2 youths approached me swung a base ball bat towards my head. As a reaction i put my arm up to try and protect my head. At this point I had the torch held full length up my forearm. The torch saved my head and arm from any damage. The torch only suffered a slight dent and is still working to this day.The reason I purchased another Maglite is because we have a new member of staff so I believe in kitting out our officers with the best equipment.

Had mine around 18months what a great torch, it's withstood drops, use in storms, and all the general wear and tear you'd expect. Batteries last around 18-20hours (duracells); it's extremely bright easily lights to the end of two football pitches. Brought mine mainly for walking the dog particulary in the winter months, and great for scaring teens up to no good :) soon as they see the light, they think it's the police lol. It could be a little heavy for some if used for long periods. Carrying mine rested on my shoulder helps and allows more of a accurate beam spread. All in all worth every penny, and will last year's and with a spare bulb in the tail cap (remove spring to find) nice touch. Can't recommend highly enough.

Great Flashlight. But let's be honest this is more than a flashlight this is used for protection, he needs someone with the butt of this Flashlight would really cause some major damage. That is why multiple law-enforcement agencies use this exact Flashlight. One downside is do not leave this in your car if you have colder months or live anywhere where it's pretty cold outside. I left my flashlight in the trunk of my car in a really bad winter in Chicago and come summertime the batteries had exploded in The Flashlight make it near possible to reuse I had to purchase another Flashlight. I feel this is a good buy for both safety protection and overall been a great Flashlight
