This review is about the MagLite 3 C size battery light (model # ML50L) which I bought on Amazon on June 16, 2016 for $33.63. I have many flashlights but I like flashlights that throw a beam at least 300 meters for my Security job. This flashlight can easily be priced for over $50 just for the illumination, small size and sturdiness, not to mention the well known brand. See my pics of this Maglite compared with my $100 (flashlight only) employer owned Streamlight Polystinger. The beam throw on the cheaper MagLite is awesome.Polystinger is 8.5 inches long and weighs 11.4 oz. Maglite is 10.2 inches long and weighs 16.7 oz (just over 1 pound).Poly's range on high is rated at 322 meters and MagC at 339.Cons- 1)Have to unscrew the tailcap to change out the batteries. I only use rechargeable batteries, currently using EBL brand which I bought on Amazon on Nov. 28, 2015 and haven't failed me yet.2)No tailcap switch, which improves the tactical-use factor.3) A little heavier than the Streamlight (see pics).Pro- 1)Sturdier, can be used to whack someone if needed without worrying about breaking it like the plastic on the Polystinger.2) Adjustable beam from tight hotspot to flood BUT it ins't very much though so keep that in mind. Its flood range is not what it is on the legendary rechargeable MagCharger flashlight.3) No charger needed, any C sized batteries will do.4)More lumens on high (633) compared to Polystinger (385) and the Eco setting (25 lumens) is a little lower than the Poly's low mode (95 lumens) and is far more comfortable for indoor everyday use as it is not too bright.5)PRICE. Very affordable.

The ML50L is a no frills, function oriented flashlight. As will all maglites, the construction is solid and the design is utilitarian. I keep this light in my duty bag for night and evening shifts, in addition to the backup light on my belt.PROS:- High output of 611 lumens for 16 hours- Low output of 105 lumens for 42 hours- Eco output of 20 lumens for 153 hours- Programmable for general, outdoor, law enforcement, and tactical use- Can rotate head for spot or flood - VERY useful when switching between illuminating up close or at distance- Single button operationCONS:- Relatively large (10 inches long)- Relatively heavy (16 oz with batteries)If you're looking for a light for camping or hiking, there are lighter more compact flashlights that would serve you better. If you're looking for a light for your home or car, or you work in outdoors in Police, Fire, EMS, security, transportation, etc... this is a fantastic choice for $45-50.Edit: Going on 2.5 years with this flashlight and I still use it almost nightly. It has a few dings and scratches from being dropped but still works as well as the day I bought it.Edit 2: 4 years on and the light still works great.

First, I like the barrel diameter of the C-cell Maglites better than D-cell because they fit my medium-sized hand much better. The light with batteries is also much lighter. This is a very good compromise between an AA and D-cell light. It gives you much more reach to light distant targets and a lot more spill light for safety and finding your way in a dark area compared to the AA options. Because of its smaller dimension and much lighter weight, I find I carry it much more than a double D-cell Maglite.I left it set on the initial feature set which has a HIGH, LOW, and ECO mode output depending on the number of clicks you use to activate it. On click one,it is very powerful with a really long reach and adjustable spill by turning the heat with very few beam artifacts. On the second click, the light output is similar to a normal double D-cell flashlight. On the third click, ECO mode is great in a small area where you don't want blow out your dark-adapted pupils or you are in a tight space like a car trunk where a strong beam would washout everything so you can't see what you are looking for or trying are trying to read.

Rated at 611 lumens but shines brighter at a distance than my 4,400 lumens Nitecore which costs almost 3x as much. This light has a great throw! The first picture I posted is the Nitecore at full strength, definitely more light at a short distance but lacking in range. The second picture is the Maglite, much more light at about 75 yards.MADE IN AMERICA!!! This light has a very high quality, solid feel to it. There are 4 different modes depending how you want to use it, normal and outdoor modes will both give you full power with one simple click.Another difference between this light and many of the super high powered lights is that the Maglite will actually maintain it's high output for an extended period of time.My Nitecore puts out 4,400 lumens but only for 30 seconds or so before it steps down to a lower output in order to not overheat.I'm really liking this light, it definitely exceeded my expectations. It's good to know you can still get a great product that's made in the USA at a fair price.

Back in the '70s for many years I carried a 7 C-cell Kel-lite "on my shoulder" ... everywhere. Very handy, slim, tough flashlight! In the '80s, someone at work stole it and by that time no more Kel-lites were be mfd. :(I bought a couple of the D-cell Maglites that had come out (replacing the Kel-lites) about that time, but, although they were as tough if not a bit tougher than the Kel-lites, they were not the same. Aside from the obvious increase in weight & barrel diameter, the heads were rather bulbous, so the carry-feel was not comfortable for me.I just bought a Maglite ML50L LED 3C-cell flashlight and it has brought back a lot of good memories. Aside from the shorter barrel & lighter weight,it feels much like my old 7C. They even made the head smaller so that it is very close to the head on my old Kel-lite. Comfortable hold. Also, I REALLY like the programmable switch. I have found that Function Set#3 (Momentary/Full/Eco) is perfect for me.Kudos to Maglite! :)

Bought one of these to replace an old Maglite I had that got nicked (completely my fault as I stupidly left it on site). That one was a 4 x D-Cell version and was a bit heavy as well as being 'baseball bat' long so I thought I'd go for a 3 x C-Cell version. In terms of light performance for what I need, this is perfect. I also like the different work modes you can set the switch up for (pretty sure my old one couldn't do this) such as for 'general' use where it has three different brightness levels or 'military' and 'outdoor' where the switch has flashing modes. It also goes from flood to spot in just a quarter turn of the head rather than the winding continuous winding of the older model. All in all I can't fault it.It's an improvement on the old one I had in pretty much every way. Not feeling quite so bad about it getting nicked now...

Like every Maglite I've ever owned- superb USA manufactured quality. The only knocks I've heard are "too heavy" and "too big". This isn't a penlight. Maglite makes those with the annoying twist switch if that's what you want. It's a serious flashlight. The reason it can be held in a 'police' grip is that it is an effective club, too. The three cell D size is even more effective like that, but the three C size weighs in at one lb. with batteries and my wife can grip it when walking the dog late at night. The strobe setting will also dazzle a mountain lion or rowdy raccoon.Works well with NiMH rechargeable cells. If that's unsettling to you,I apologize- but no one else has mentioned that this heavy duty ultra-bright flashlight is tough enough for the cause.

I have 4 Maglites including a 2C LED model, none of which can hold a candle to this one. This is an extremely bright flashlight and i have seen quite a few bright flashlights. Take 3 C batteries and has a soft touch on/off switch. Simple and no fuss operation. Moderately heavy to hold and has a nice grip to it. I would recommend using Duracell C batteries to get the best out of it.I know there are a lot of "tactical" flashlights out there which claim to be very bright at dollar store prices and you see this and question why it should cost $50. Without writing miles - you get what you pay for.One last thing - do not keep batteries in this if you are not using it for a week +.

This Maglite has finally been"dialed it up a notch" by a huge margin over older tried and true Maglite products. Iv'e always been a "C" cell user for home and professional applications as it's the best comprises of size and brightness. Ontario Instruments has been replacing incandescent bulbs with LED inserts in the past without improving the rest of the product. The ML50L is a NEW product, ground up LED design, 660 lumens bright, new power switch function and quick focus beam. Same professional quality as always, but clearly designed around LED technology and a much needed upgrade on a venerable design.Well worth the money and a solid reason to upgrade my existing collection!

The programmable switch is nice to customize your operational preference. I would have combined some in a different order but that's just my opinion. The switch, no matter how you set it up, takes some getting used to. I carry a relatively expensive edc flashlight that has several switch functions and it is much easier to get to the setting you want by just tapping the button. The way this switch works you have to be pretty quick and push the button on and completely off each time to get the one you want instead of just tapping to get to the next function. It's just an unusual way for it to operate to me. Hopefully I'll get used to it. Overall a good light.

I purchased this flashlight as an addition to my car emergency kit. I liked the basic style and size. The flashlight itself is much lighter than other Maglite products I have encountered even with all 3 C batteries installed. The LED bulb is bright enough to see adequately in the dark. It is easy to accidentally turn on the switch. This happened and the flashlight remained on overnight and did not completely drain the batteries. In the future it will be stored in a pocket to prevent it from rolling around and turning itself on again. Overall, it's a reasonably priced, minimalist flashlight.

My daughter bought this for me as a birthday gift. I love it. It's extremely bright. During a recent power outage I set it on the table pointing up and it illuminated the entire room. If you press the on/off button twice quickly, it comes on slightly dimmer. I assume this is to save battery, but I use it in the "dim" mode routinely as the bright mode is absurdly bright. I like the feel of it too. I keep it next to my bed as it would be a good weapon in a pinch. Yes, I have no problem weaponizing a flashlight if anyone is dumb enough to enter my house at night.

Been using the 3-cell Maglite LED almost daily for three years for work (night shift LEO). I’ve been running rechargeable batteries for the last year. For me, high lumens is very important, but I have to be conscious of how much weight I am carrying on my duty belt. The lumens/weight ratio works out well. I recommend it to all my co workers and have never had an issue. I liked it so much I bought the 2-cell for my wife. (Pro Tip: Apply some Vaseline on the threads in the battery compartment to help keep moisture out)

This flashlight is superbright fairly lightweight with multiple settings for whatever your desired use is, I purchased mine for camping and around the house. Walking trails it is superbright, getting ready for bed the low power Load is perfect, and walking down the street the strobe mode makes you very visible. There are also three other variations of an eco-mode and momentary on and off. awesome flashlight, that is extremely bright in full power mode.

Brightest Maglite I've ever owned and I own a lot of them! It's even almost on par with the flood capability of my Terralux converted 4D mag! Definitely beats it in intensity though! Very good battery life and I mean VERY. Love the four selectable modes and the ability to focus the lens like you could with older style mags! Color temp is perfect for almost any situation, especially outdoors, very neutral in color and hue. I highly recommend this mag!
