Being someone who, amongst other things, designs and creates website themes, I've over the years become very aware of the importance of typography and how the use of the right font can make all the difference between an ordinary looking website and one that stands out and grabs the attention of the visitor.Up until recently I've never been too interested in what I use to write with or the quality of the paper that I write on. However through my interest in typography I've recently been sucked into the world of pens and paper.I started off my trek into the world of fountain pens with a Pilot V disposable with a fine nib which was followed by a Platinum Preppy also with a fine 0.3 nib.Whilst my experience so far had been very good the one thing that kept coming up was the fact that although both nibs were described as fine the line thickness was still too thick for my liking. I decided to try another manufacturer, this time purchasing a Lamy Safari, again with a fine nib. This time the nib really did come close to what I was after. The line thickness was certainly finer than my two previous experiences. Spurred on by this giant step for mankind it was time to try another manufacturer, this time Kaweco with a model from their Sport range.I decided to choose the Kaweco Classic Sport, transparent with a fine nib. Compared to the previous makes and models that I'd tried the Classic Sport is noticeably shorter. This small size, combined with the pens plastic build means that the pen is very light. The pen is presented in a Kaweco branded box with a very 1930s design. The pen also came with a single short international standard ink cartridge in blue. The pen comes in three parts; cap, barrel and nib unit. The cap screws / unscrews with a single twist whilst it can be posted with a gentle push until the cap clicks into place. Although the pen comes with a supplied cartridge it can also be fitted with a converter in order that the pen can be used with bottled ink. Another extra available is a pocket clip in either gold or silver. The pen has a stainless steel nib with 23ct gold plate manufactured by Bock of Heidelburg. As well as fine the nib also comes in extra fine, medium, broad and extra broad.Rather than use the supplied cartridge I opted to use the converter that was available for the Classic Sport in order that I could have more choice over the quality and colour of the ink. The converter fitted very easily into the nib unit. I chose to use Diamine Blue Black ink for my first test of the Classic Sport. I tend to use a good paper when writing and in this instance I chose Rhodia 90g.I prefer my pens to be on the light side when writing so I normally have the cap unposted. Despite its' light weight the Classic Sport was no exception. I tried moving the optional pocket clip up and down the pen barrel and even removed it all together but still found the pen to be slightly top heavy for my taste when posted.I was slightly concerned that the fine nib might provide a scratchy feel when writing but was pleasantly surprised. The ink flow was very smooth and even with no scratchy feedback. The ink itself dried very quickly without any feathering on the paper. No doubt this was all due to a combination of good nib, ink and paper.Overall the Kaweco Classic Sport with fine nib has provided a good writing experience and is certainly worth considering if you want a fountain with plenty of features without having to pay a small fortune. If you like your pen to have a good weight to it then the Classic Sport might not be for you although a good alternative might be the AL Sport model which is made from aluminium and weighs 22g.Classic Sport Features:* takes short international standard cartridges* can be used with a converter* pocket clip available* 23ct gold plated nib* five nib sizes available

Received this pen as a Christmas gift and after using for a few days it is definitely one of my favourite fountain pens. The compact nib writes beautifully and I like the feel of the pen both closed and posted: the eight faceted construction of the lid is a simple but effective design making this a really pleasant tactile pen. The pen is so compact and light that you can have in any pocket and forget it is even there while when posted it is just like any other pen.I tend to use a fine nib, however, the medium nib that came with this pen is still very pleasant to use even with small writing. You can buy replacement nibs for this pen very easily: buying the fine nib to see how this writes is onmy to-do list at some point. It looks like all the Kaweco Sport pens use the same steal nibs so the only real choice is what body/colour you want (You can get gold nibs but there are rather expensive). If you prefer a heaver pen would suggest going for the metal body options, however, be aware that they are also more expensive (3 to 4 times more expensive). The one extra positive with the metal body pens is that they tend to come with their own altoid like tin that can fit two Kaweco pens or one pen & selection of ink cartridges. The converter you can get for this pen does not look particularly great which corresponds with other reviews done by those that have purchased and tried it (holds very little ink & does not fill very easily). I know that may people like using converters rather than the standard ink cartridges but for this pen using a cartridge just looks to make more sense.

This is my first adult fountain pen. I didn't know what to expect as I only used a fountain pen at school previously, and hadn't touched one in around 15 years...I thought I would go for something modestly priced, and popular so I bought a Kaweco sport, the main point I have is; it's great when it works, but it doesn't work 100% of the time.I liked them so much when I initially purchased them I bought 2. I was happy when they arrived, and proceeded to load them with Diamine ink cartridges and crack on testing them out. Now, I wasn't expecting miracles but it wasn't a happy relationship from the get go with wither pen. This is me reviewing the pens 1 week later and it's still a stop start pen. Both broad (B) nibs - Sometimes it works first time, sometimes it doesn't (it always works if I shake the pen to push the ink), but the other problem is it dires up and stops working pretty quickly after you pause writing. Meaning flicking the pen to get the ink flowing again over the paper isnt an ideal situation. I want to love this pen more but I just have this issue with two dud nibs - and I know I'm not alone as a lot of other purchasers say the same thing (something to do with a 'babies bottoms', where the nib is too smooth) it's basically pot luck.Good solidly made pen which actually looks nice, also a smooth consistent ink flow whilst in the flow of writing. So for this I give it a (possibly generous) 4/5, good but not great

I haven't used a fountain pen in year's but recently bought a leather journal and decided it was time. I read some reviews and settled on the Kaweco Classic in palm green. Amazon are doing a great job delivering, many stores have problem's because of the pandemic but I got this super fast. It write's so smooth, ink flow is really good and I didn't need to adjust the nib one little bit. It's very lightweight and easily carried in a pocket. It is also one of the easiest fountain pen's to convert into an eyedropper. This basically means you can fill the barrel with your favorite ink and forget about having to stick a cartridge in for months. I bought the medium nib but after using it a while, think I should have went with the fine. Nothing wrong with it but I prefer the finer line. Price is astounding given how well the little pen writes. Highly recommended.

Arrived on time and very well packaged in a secure and sturdy box. The presentation tin is akin to the old Oxford geometry sets we all used to have at school though a little smaller. A nice touch is that the insert in the tin allows it to hold more than one Kaweco Sport pen so it doubles as a pen holder too.On to the pen itself. It writes beautifully, is well balanced and feels 'right.' I really like the screw on cap- much better than the push on type. Call me old fashioned but I'd rather a fountain pen had a screw on cap it just adds a bit more 'class' to the product.Being of a smaller size than standard fountain pens it can't hold a spare cartridge but given that it uses standard cartridges it shouldn't be too hard to squirrel a spare refill in a wallet, purse or pencil case.Hope this helps,R

Very useful and practical pocket fountain pen. The construction is robust, though it is made from tough plastic and not metal. A seperate clip is available to buy. Great design by German company Kaweco. The pen, when posted, becomes a proper sized pen and easy to use. The nib is very smooth and a joy to write with. Uses international ink cartridges, so easy to buy and a great colour range to choose from. This pen is quite cheap, but it writes very well and is better than many pens costing a lot more. I also have it's sibling the Kaweco Liliput, which is aluminium, cute and tiny and perfect for my filofax pen loop. (This pen is just a bit too wide to fit the loop, hence why I got the Liliput afterwards.)Kaweco is a brand that is less well known, but they make quality products.

The pen looks really good, the gold and black works well. The clip (I received mine for free) also works rather well. The pen is an extremely compact size, and on first opening it I though it would be much too small to hold, but when the cap is posted the length is fine for normal writing-and fits my hand snugly. My previous pen, The Lamy Safari, had ink flow problems quite regularly, I can report I have had no such issues here-writing is very smooth. The nib is nice and thick, as one would expect from a BB nib.The ink is vastly cheaper because the pen fits the 'Universal Standard Ink Cartridge' - http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00379HJN2/ref=cm_cr_ryp_prd_ttl_sol_2 .Fifty cartridges for only about £2!Overall fantastic quality and value fountain pen!

For weeks I couldn't use this pen because no cartridges seemed to fit. Then I realised that Kaweco supply a cartridge which they put into the barrel, thereby making it seem short. This cartridge was jammed so tightly that it required a heated screwdriver to get it out - do this at your own risk!If the cartridge was supplied in the box, and the pen was just slightly bigger, this would be a five star pen. It's still a very good one, but converting it for use with bottled ink can be a problem.UPDATE: Kaweco now make a convertor for this pen which should soon be widely available. I think that one of the reasons many people haven't purchased this in the past has been that it has been cartridge oreyedropper only.

Brilliant little pen. So why only four stars? It doesn't come with a converter and when you do get the converter it's a bladder type which are a faf. If anyone knows of a piston converter that fits this pen let us all know, please.Back to the pen itself. As I said brilliant pen writes very well and fits neatly in your pocket. I bought the fine nib which falls somewhere between a normal fine and medium, so if you don't want too thick a line go for the fine nib.If you use a fountain pen at all buy one of these, leave your big expensive one at home and then you don't need to worry about losing it.When they sort out the converter it'll get a five!

I really like this. When all screwed up it is about 10cm (4inches) long. When unscrewed the working end, without the cap, is just UNDR 10cm. With the lid screwed back on, "posted", it becomes 13cm (about 5 inches). Whether the lid is posted or not the pen is very good to write with. It is a German design marvel. It comes without a clip. I bought one seperately as I found it useful. For many the clip will not be necessary. The only cartridges i've tried with it are standard small Rotring cartridges, which are jet black. They fit perfectly.Came quickly and well-packed. Highly recommended.

Packaging is just a black cardboard box4" long closed. 5.2 inches with the lid on the backBlack plastic. Fairly cheap ABS by the looks of it, with casting marks, so not well refined. Lid 'squeaks' when you screw it on/offWeighsSteel, gold plated nibCame with a cartridge enclosed in the body of the penKaweco's squeeze converter will fit this pen if you choose to add one.Good pen for everyday use. I wouldn't want to write several pages of A4 with it as a routine, I'd look at a higher budget pen.Small size is great for having it in your purse, pocket or diary.

This is a great small pen. I bought a Fine nibbed version. It writes really well, is not too wet nor too dry and feels very comfortable in the hand. I actually prefer it to the Lilliput which is slightly too thin to use comfortably. I would highly recommend this as a second or third line pen, or one for your edc bag. It takes the standard sized cartridge and the Kaweco black cartridges I bought with it, are a really nice shade of black. It's very light and can really only be used when the cap is posted, given it's small size. But when posted it works perfectly.

For me this is a perfect carry pen. It sits in a trouser pocket until I need it, it writes well even after a few days of inactivity and has allowed me to get back to writing with a fountain pen at almost all times again, which I've wanted to do for ages. The only advantage a BIC now has, is that I can't use the nib of the Kaweco to slice through the tape on cases of wine to get them open in a hurry. That's a minor shortcoming. It is very small, especially when closed, but when open with the cap mounted, it fits in my hand very comfortably.

I bought this pen as part of an effort to reduce the amount of plastic I throw away. I figured that a small plastic cartridge versus a larger biro or gel pen going into the bin had to be better.I've had this pen in my pocket since November and use it every day. For the price, it is five stars. The bold nib flows nicely and I have not had a stuck nib yet. I write a lot and have got through 6 cartridges. I recommend the Kaweco cartridges, simply because the ink works nicely and the boxes fit into your bag.

This white Kaweco was an impulse buy as I was not really a fan of fountain pens. However having filled this with green ink (just for fun) this is now one of my favourites. It is smooth and writes well, the add-on clip which I purchased separately does give it better balance, as it felt a bit light in the hand without it.I like that the screw-on lid ensures that it won't slip off and leave a pool of ink somewhere, likewise, the coloured ink cartridge options bring back the joy and fun of writing again.
