I got the iRig KEYS after I finally dropped my MicroKey 37 one too many times. (I carried it unprotected in my luggage, and I dropped it a lot over 3 years.) The Korg had better feeling keys, but the iRig has a volume control and program switches on the keyboard as well as a sustain pedal in jack, all of which the Korg lacked. (The lack of the sustain pedal input is the only thing that bothered me about the Korg.) The iRig also can be powered by the iPad's really low-powered camera adapter (for USB input). I use the iRig Keys both for my computers and iPad. It's a handy little companion. It also has a dedicated cable for the old 30-pin Apple interface, again - an advantage over the Korg. The iRig KEYS is a little cheaper too. A dedicated laptop musician might find enough use to justify having both of these small keyboards. For now, I'm glad I replaced the Korg with the iRig KEYS, but I might buy another small Korg controller some time in the future. I docked it a star for the spongy keys, but there are no deal killers here. It gets the job done. I'm hoping that the iRig proves to be as resistant to abuse as the Korg. We'll see. 2/2015 UPDATE - Now that I have had the keyboard for awhile, I have a few other impressions. This keyboard has a micro-usb connector to the cable, with a connector much like a cell-phone. What works for a cellphone isn't optimal for a musical keyboard. every now and then the USB connector comes loose, and the keyboard loses its digital connection to the computer. This means that you may have stuck notes and/or you may need to reinitialize the keyboard in the software. It doesn't happen that often but it happens often enough to be annoying, and there is some indication that it may happen more often as the keyboard ages. Even separate from the USB connector issue, stuck notes seem to be more common with this keyboard than my other controllers. I notice it the most with the new Matrix12V synth from Aurturia which I actually have only played from the iRig. I think most of the problem likely relates to the Matrix12V software than the iRig Keys keyboard. Most of the other programs that have frequent stuck notes are iPad programs, and those programs often try to bite off more than they can chew in terms of polyphony and tone complexity. Because the problem only arises with some software instruments I am not docking the iRig Keys a star, but I think if they redesign it, they should consider implementing a midi "panic button".

Amazing, hook this up to your iPad or iPhone, Mac or PC and get some crazy sounds & an even crazier bonuses, yep that's right get in quick as IK Multimedia are running a promotion that gives you SampleTank SE for your Mac/PC which retails at €120 inc vat & with this you get the Grid which is a sound add on for SampleTank that contains some sweet beats for you to work with & to be honest if I were gonna buy just one sound pack The Grid would be the one!!!. Oh yeah did I mention this pack is nearly €50 euros on its own.Wait for it plus you get an additional 5 sound packs of your choice each worth just short of €50.Of which you can choose from the Elektronika or Beats sound packs equating to a total of €420 euros worth of software & it is all well worth the dosh even if you paid for it. To get it for free is a bonus that keeps on giving. Also if you have not registered any previous IK Multimedia hardware device they will also give you 25 gear credits to use in custom shop, that's another 25 quid, So.... I dunno why you are still reading this go buy it.Ok, onto the hardware, the touch sensitive keys, the mod wheel, the pitch wheel & the octave buttons easily replace a full size keyboard & you can comfortably use this keyboard with two hands, although once you download the free packs you'll probably forget everything you know about keyboards as you know them & start creating some wicked tunes with just one hand.I got this to replace a full size keyboard for inputting midi, haha really now I can rock out on my iPad, iPhone, PC or Mac & at quarter of the size & a whole lot less weight. Yep that's right no more need for that massive keyboard stand stick this thing on your lap & you wouldn't even know it was there! There are also program buttons for browsing or changing patches or parts as IK call them & a set button which allows you to recal presets of your choosing & you can set the volume button as a midi control. You also get 37 keys 3 Octaves plus 1 & the keys are also mapped for even more functionality.Note this does not come with a 30 pin to mini din adaptor, although if you have an iRig HD you can use this lead for older iPads/iPhones.It does however come with a lightning connector for newer iPads/iPhones & a USB adaptor to connect to your Mac/PC. In summary I wish I got one of these a long time ago instead of buying a full size midi keyboard. Still reading? Ok you know you want it, so go buy it now...

I bought this to use with my iPad and the iGrand app, and for these, it excels - the sound and playability are excellent. Slight hesitation if you press the keys very gently, but it's still better response than any 'real' piano I have played (although I've not played any very good ones). Using iGrand, you can also play the keyboard even when the app is minimised, if you go into the iGrand settings and set it to play when minimised. This is very useful when playing along with video lessons on your iPad. It travels well, too - it's light and tough and I can sling it in an airline carry-on bag, although it's too long for a college backpack. You need an adaptor to use it with iPads with the new(ish)'Lightning' port, because the cable it comes with has the wider, old-style 'iPhone 4S' plug. This adaptor is not cheap, at about £25, so frankly, you might as well buy the newer version of the keyboard, which comes with the Lightning adaptor and I've read actually sounds better. But anyway... Using this with iGrand on my iPhone, the sound is very noticeably rougher, so I'll stick with my iPad. I tried using this keyboard with my PC, and gave up in disgust -- no idea about how to get it to work, even after jumping through the interminable hoops required to download the 'right' version of the software. But maybe I'm missing something, and that's not what I bought it for anyway, so something to worry about another day. On the whole, a VERY good keyboard to learn on and noodle about with, if you have an iPad, and I see no need to upgrade it until I need something with a few more octaves.

My unit has just arrived, and out of the box, it worked straight away with GarageBand on my Mac, and straight away with the free iOS apps (eg sampletank) on iPad 3 and iPhone 4s.Obviously this unit comes with the older 30 pin connector which my iOS devices have. You need to get the newer version if you want lightning cable included. I don't think the unit is any different, they just throw in the extra cable. Even with this slightly older edition, I still have access to all the bundled software on their web site.I spent a bit of time getting all the apps and getting some new ones to play with. The registration to get the extra software is a bit of a long winded process, but hay,it normally costs money so to get it your have to download and have it authorized, they are not going to give it away free to everyone (who might have other midi keyboards). Plus it means you get to have extras for the iOS apps and they have more sound samples you can download.Ultimately, remember this is a midi keyboard, what you do will depend on what software you use. And that sound quality will be nothing to do with product but the software and computer/device you use, and your playing skill!I am pretty much a keyboard beginner and this unit feels nice to use, simple but has some advanced features I am not going to be using for some time yet. It feels solidly built, though not heavy. It has good feet to keep a grip on the table. Overall, the quality for the money seems pretty good.If I get chance after some real use, I will add an update.

I absolutely love this little controller. It is ideal for playing iPhone apps such as the Minimoog Model D, or MiniSynth II, on which the on-sceeen keyboard is (of necessity) extremely small. The controller itself has almost zero latency. The keys are physically light, so you can’t really hammer away at them - but the playability and responsiveness are very good for a keyboard this inexpensive. However, please note that if you use AirPods Pro, or indeed any other type of Bluetooth audio device, there will be about 144ms latency (which is very noticeable). This is an unavoidable Bluetooth Audio issue and is nothing at all to do with the iRig device itself.I’m just mentioning it as general a heads-up.The other heads-up is that you can’t plug in wired earbuds while you have this device plugged into your phone. You’d have to buy a splitter in order to do that. Again, this is nothing to do with this specific keyboard. It’s just that the newer iPhones only have the one lightning port - and that’s the port that this keyboard plugs into. Also beware that if you have one of the newer MacBooks that don’t have a USB port, you’ll also need to buy a separate cord or adapter. Again, that’s not the fault of this keyboard; it’s because Apple eliminated USB ports from their newer laptops. In summary: if you want a fun, inexpensive keyboard (ie controller) for playing the keyboard, drum and synth apps you have on your phone and iPad through their own built-in speakers: this is a great buy and I highly recommend it.

For those who don't know, this is not a typical 'home' keyboard - ie. it doesn't have its own built in sounds and speaker. You would only buy this to use with music software installed on your computer (in my case Logic Pro X, would presumably work equally well with Garageband - both Mac computer music software). If you wanted a 'home' keyboard to use as a standalone instrument do not look for 'controller' keyboards.Spent ages researching which controller keyboard to buy for use with Logic pro X and am very pleased with this purchase. Wanted something simple to get started with, but with enough keys to enable me to play two handed - there aren't that many 32 key variations on the market so that made the search a bit easier.I can literally plug it into my Mac,open up Logic and play, using the extensive library of sounds offered on Logic Pro X - although it comes with a load of it's own plug-ins which I haven't tried yet.At some point I may go for a larger instrument with more features (ie. more keys, pads, control knobs etc.) - but for now this will do.It almost makes my current keyboard - a Fantom X6 - redundant - as recording / editing is far quicker / easier using this setup than the sequencer on the Roland (although for live performance situations I would envisage using 'standard' workstation keyboards alongside something like this.Very happy with my purchase.

For the price, a very good deal. the Sampletank SE software on its own costs more than the keyboard (this is mainly why I bought it), and if you like the electronica/techno soundsets also included (worth £30 each), it's even more of a good deal. Sampletank SE comes with 6.5GB of instruments, guitars, pianos, etc which are on the whole worth having in your library (one day you will need that vibraphone)The keyboard itself is great if you need a small portable midi keyboard and don't mind the mini keys. 37 keys is enough for most home recording uses or portable recording , but you are not going to be playing a piano concerto on this. If you do need a portable keyboard, this is nice and light and surprisingly strong-feeling for something made entirely of plastic.( If you need lighter or smaller IK Multimedia also do a smaller model that has fewer keys and doesn't have the pitch bend and modulation wheels.)It also has a socket for an expression pedal (not included) which you can use as a volume pedal, or using Midi you can usually assign it to some other function (filter cut-off, for example).I'm not sure about the micro-usb socket and how resilient that would be if you were taking this everywhere in your backpack, but it seems ok so far.

Although I have a very nice keyboard I like having a small table top keyboard on my desktop close to my DAW.I tried a bunch of small keyboards and this is the one I like best for the money. It's the perfect size so you can actually play it like a larger keyboard and it has a nice feel to the keyboard. It's not a piano hammer action but rather a synth type feel. It does not click and clack like a lot of small keyboards. It feels like a quality instrument that solid and well made. I don't need a lot of buttons, pads and lights so this is perfect for me.I am replacing a previous iRig Keys that was similar that they discontinued. It developed a weird problem after 3 years of use where is would output erroneous MIDI data which had something to do with the pitch bend wheel or tuning. It actually de-tuned all my tracks and I never figured out how to solve it. Needless to say that went in the garbage (not worth fixing) and now I have the newer model which I hope will last a while and not have the same problem down the road. For now I love it and it works great!

WHEN I TRY TO SYNC IRIG KEYS WITH MY IPHONE IT IS IMPOSSIBLE. THE SIGNAL APPARENTLY IS LOST AND NOT STEADY.I WAS TRYING TO INSTALL SAMPLE TANK 2L IN MY MAC BOOK PRO RETINA WITH OS 10.9.2 MAVERICKS...TOTAL DISASTER. THE TICKET I SENT TO IK MULTIMEDIA WAS RESPONDED QUICKLY BUT TOLD ME THEY DOES NOT SUPPORT MAVERICKS...OHH SURPRISE?...NOW I HAVE A TINY KEYBOARD OPERATING RANDOMLY ONLY WITH ONE PIANO SOUND...I FEEL I PAID FOR SOMETHING IS NOT FULLY OPERATIONAL... SO KIND OF DISAPPOINTED...UPDATE:FINALLY I HAVE INSTALLED PROPERLY SAMPLE TANK 2L FOR MAC OS AND IS RUNNING WITH NO TROUBLE. THE SOUNDS LIBRARY IS ANOTHER HISTORY, I HAVE TO PAY ANOTHER 10 BUCKS TO REACTIVATE THE DOWNLOAD LIBRARY. UFF?WHAT IS THE MATTER?I AM VERY PLEASED WITH THE PIANO SOUNDS QUALITY AND THE OTHER INSTRUMENT SONORITY I THINK THE WORK IK MULTIMEDIA GROUP DID TO CAPTURE ALL THOSE SOUNDS ARE SIMPLY EXCELLENT. VERY HIGH FIDELITY, RESOLUTION, AND TEXTURE.

This is a review for the 37 full size keys model: REPLACE THE USB CABLE IMMEDIATELY. The cable they supply is absolutely useless. It doesn't sit in the slot properly and after just 3 months my keyboard became unusable. Other reviewers have experienced the same. I plugged in my PS4 controller charging cable and it worked fine, so if you choose to buy this keyboard then get a cable at the same time. The keyboard itself feels cheap and plasticky, to be honest. The action on the keys is okay but they wobble very easily from side to side, so much in fact that it makes a fair bit of noise, and I worry how long this unit will last before keys break. That said, I'll stick with it until it begins to malfunction.37 full size keys is just right for me, and there aren't many controllers of that size available. However, should I need to buy a new controller I'm not sure I'd buy this again. I feel the quality doesn't justify its price.

I bought this as a portable practice keyboard for when travelling. It totally fits the bill. The quality is actually pretty good and it comes with the cables to connect. I use it with iPad, iPhone and iMac, all work seamlessly. The keys are full size with decent feel. The keyboard recognises the pressure you use. It's powered by the interface cable so no need for a power plug.In terms of features it's all pretty much there. Bear in mind this isn't a fully featured keyboard however it has everything you need to play with some nice features.. There's also a pedal socket.I can't vouch for their software as I just use Garageband - again, it worked immediately with on config required.I was keen to buy a travel case as well.Unfortunately they are overpriced in comparison.Recommended.

The product is just what I wanted, but like any MIDI device, it requires connecting to something like a computer to listen to the music you create. The company website has confusing options for software, and regardless of the hoops I jumped through, the software I downloaded and installed did not work. This process chewed up my time and was frustrating, and it didn't have to be. I asked the Internet what to do, and a comment somewhere said that Piano Time for Windows on the Microsoft website is free and works. Downloaded it and it recognized the iRIG Keys 25 immediately and started playing minutes later. It's not a fully featured interface like Garageband (Mac/iPAD)but I simply wanted a portable keyboard to tinker with when I travel or quickly want to listen to a sequence, etc.

I've owned one of these for a couple of years now and find it really useful !I link it to my ipad to play piano sounds with Sampletank and it's really playable - the small keys really aren't an issue for me.I also use the Audiobus app, which allows a second keyboard sound to play at the same time (so I have Korg Module producing pad sounds to go with the pianos from Sampletank).I love the fact that it has a sustain pedal input - I use a Yamaha FC4 with it, and it works a treat.Add on a decent pair of computer speakers (e.g. Creative T10's) and you've got a superbly portable piano setup. You can alter the touch response both on the keyboard itself, and within Sampletank software,so it's simple to customise it to your style of playing.Thoroughly recommended!!

Hit a slight glitch when my iMac didn't seem to 'recognise it' but after contacting applecare for advice this was quite simply sorted through settings.Haven't yet managed to exploit any programming potential in the keyboard - using Logic Pro and still trying to get my head around that but since the keyboard is a relatively modest price from what seems to be (from my reading of many reviews for many of their products) a reputable company, I'm pretty sure that it's only persistence and time that's holding me back. The keys are fine for me - it's a balance between having enough room to use the keyboard and not committing too much workspace to it. This fits the bill. Why not 5 stars? well, maybe I'm a tad greedy and wanted everything to work from the start.

Only just got it - plugged it in to Win 7 - no drivers to load - seen immediately and works perfectly with Cubase and Steinberg Grand 3 - incredible low latency right out of the box. Great feel to the keyboard and perfect size for two hands in an armchair - perhaps I will improve on my keyboard skills now.My Akai LPK25 will now be pushed into the closet - what a waste of time that device was - hit a key and then it would decide to play a note - crap really, plus it doesn't seem to send midi events to Steinberg Grand 3 even though you can select it, unless you run it within Cubase. The latency makes it unusable. Can't wait to get using the IK keyboard - superb and really fast delivery - arrivedsix days before it was due to arrive.
