When I was a teenager, I remember asking my father to get a little bit of That Perfume before going out. He would go to his drawer, and hiding beneath his socks there was this yellowish, single-malted-whisky, rectangular bottle, which he would open by spiraling up the lid. He would handle the bottle over to me. I would feel as becoming a little bit like him (and, of course, imagining all the women (girls) falling for me); a little bit more adult: a virtuous Casanova.Later, in my early 20's, I saw his face drop when the eau de toilette ran dry. My mother bought him another Hugo Boss with a lid that didn't spiral and a bottle with a terrible roundness and a purplish liquid, home of chemical petals.As the eau wasn't spiral round and whisky-like, it would never be able to transport me. I stopped asking for it. My father stopped nesting it among single colored socks and dark 100% cotton underpants.I find myself now, in my late 20's, with a Christmas present from my wife in front of me, as I write this review. The gift, as a good and truthful narrative requires, is the 125ml Hugo Boss Number One. First thing is I spray it in my wrists and the smell comes right up and with it all the memories. Tobacco, wood, honey and fresh living petals. Cold nights of gathering courage to talk to That Girl and colder nights coming back without having talked to Those Girls. Much warmer nights at the cinema with someone I loved.As an epilogue, I'll buy this as a Christmas gift for my father who, when told that a surprise was coming, asked 'Is it the phone number of a beautiful woman?'. I negatively replied and said that it was something that he and I would have. As first, it would make me him-like, but now, each one of us has its own essence. Different skins, but spirally intertwined memories and virtues.

I first tried this when it was launched in the mid eighties......and that summed up my opinion! Definitely a product of the eighties! Strong at first, oddly sweet for a man's fragrance, not particularly lasting and just a hint of something very slightly artificial about it. That said, that was how I felt about it when I tested it on myself. (Oh don't ask....I just had a thing about aftershaves at that time!)I have to say my opinion is completely different now. It is said to have 'middle notes' of honey, jasmine and rosemary. I find I detect those aspects - particularly the honey and the jasmine coming to the fore very early on. The supposed 'topnotes' of bergamot, lavender and sage just pass me by!After a couple of hours or so a more 'earthy' smell begins to emerge - possibly from the patchouli or the oakmoss and something richer, more woody - likely the sandalwood element. The light sweetness is retained however. I still find it is not a very long lasting fragrance, though,This is not a fragrance that everyone will like, in fact I think it could be one of those scents you either love or hate. Of course, the other extremely important factor is how it reacts on the person. When my husband uses it, the woodiness and the spice seem to emerge far more strongly and the sweetness is a little more subdued. My recommendation is simple - make sure you sample this first before you make a purchase. And try it on you - not just a piece of paper or a quick sniff of a bottle.

I recently bought a bottle of this but not ftom this seller but a reputable seller onine who i have bought over 18 aftershaves but back to this i used this in bording school in 1986 when it first came out and recently bought a bottle last year as i used to love this smell along with kouros back wat back when lol. First thing i noticed was no plastic as normal and thought is it fake but to my nose it exactly tje same stong leaves a trail arouns the house and there is noway any one can not notice this aftershave. I think the plastic not on the box may be for cost cutting reason. Now if you get one wrapped in plastic id be worried,??hope this helps with is it fake because there no plastic wrapping.

So the number 1 is now quite an old fragrance, 1985 i believe, and it shows. it's what i expect the 80's to smell like and maybe too mature for someone of my age (18) but it was a great deal for the amount you get and hugo boss make some really great fragrances so i just went ahead and got it.Probably best for evenings and would work for both casual and formal uses. To me it smells much better after a few hours. It's also not too strong unlike some modern fragrances so it's not for someone who wants to get noticed so works well for day to day use for example at work.I'd definitely try it before you buy it as it's not for everyone but i'm quite happy with it for now.

There isn't many colognes which take me liking as much as The Dreamer by Versace and Jaipur Homme by Boucheron. Without Boss Number One being like these other colognes, this fragrance sure is a godsend. What a fabulous cologne! It does smell a lot like Aramis 900, but I can't complain much really because this is such a captivating cologne. It looks so classic, and for it to be an 80's powerhouse, it sure is gonna make my main shelf of fragrances. If you like strong sweet herbal fragrances, then this is the perfect one! Give it a try! It smell great! :)

This product was delivered to me very quickly and exaactly as described. I bought it for my husband as this is hat he always used to use but when it became unavaliable in the shops he swopped but still wished he could buy it.I was so pleased to find it again but although the fragrance is as we remembered it does not seem to last as long. Perhaps this is just rose tinted glassed on our part or hugo boss are making the product weaker so you have to use more. It is still a great fragrance and much nicer than a lot that are out there.

This was the first Boss aftershave, and I used to wear it in the 80's when I was a teenager! I've always found it a classic and love wearing it (also gets a few compliments!). Has a masculine and musky smell which I never tire of. Tastes change overtime, but this is I've stuck with for nearly thirty years. Relatively hard to get on the high street now as Boss push their more recent additions but this (along with the original Boss Sport) simply can't be beat in my view. A real classic!

This scent reminds me of my Grandad and my Dad.So I never thought id be into it but its really grown on me.At the start you could cut this smell with a knife its so heavy so Its smells so strong its a bit off putting at the start.About an hour later you get the really nice side of it, it really mellows out and smells much better and subtle. Strong enough that most people will comment on it though through out the entire day.Great for a Fathers day gift aswell.

I bought this reminiscing about when I was younger and when my uncle and friends wore this scent. It is a good value for money scent and I and it does tend to stick for a while. My advice is wear it for the evening/work function or even meeting a client. It isn't one of those scents that you can wear all day but otherwise it has got a classic gentleman feel about it

It was delivered even before the expected date, very great!The perfume was a gift for my husband. It was the perfume his father used in the 80's/90's. He loved the gift. He was impressed that it is still available and happy to have a strong memory in his hands. It is a traditional fragrance, not a modern one, so some people could not like it.

I bought the product after reading very good reviews. I found that I am not very fond of this fragrance but I don't mind wearing once a while. But to my surprise everyone around me loves the fragrance. My wife says it smells very nice and stays longer.Quit happy with the purchase at this price.

I buy this for my son because I can't stand the smell of the ones he chooses. I am so sorry it has been discontinued because, apart from Equipage by Hermes, which costs megabucks, it is the only scent that makes me want to run behind the person wearing it to breathe in the gorgeousness.

I bought this product as a gift for a family member . It arrived within 3 days and was well packaged. The price was cheaper than most other sellers. My husband tried it and loved it, so I've now ordered one for him too. Smells great. Would definately recommend from this seller.

A powerful scent, which I absolutely love, partly (as is often the case especially with fragrances that have been around many years) because it reminds me of a specific and very happy time in my life. Unfortunately my girlfriend hates it, so I can't wear it all the time! Poo!

Always have concerns regarding "authenticity" of Cologne when buying online plus have used this Cologne for many many years, however I have to say this is a genuine product and has fantastic longevity eg if applied in the morning the scent is still there in the evening.
