As the review states this game could be extremely delicious...,but could have done with another month or so in the proverbial game oven.To clarify, the game has amazing potential. The game works off a class bases system. You choose a class, buy your equipment and use them and your class’ abilities to fight off the forces of Blight(basically extra planar evil and undead).Though unlike other such MMORPG style games such as DAoC and EQ you are not "stuck" in your first profession choice. At absolutely anytime you feel you are getting "bored" or "tired" with the aspects of a certain class, all you have to do is zip back to town and choose a new one. It’s just that simple. You also keep the levels you have gained in your previous profession and some of your abilities even transfer over!A fully armoured warrior marching into combat with healing spells to ease his wounds and the dark arts crackling at his finger tips to cause grief to his foes! The game also features a fantastic crafting system to rival that of SWG and it is easier to get to grips with. Player property is also available for those with the money in their pockets. All this aside the game does have its faults.I am sorry to say but the engine used to power Horizons is not good at all, putting it lightly. My PC is top of the range and I have to have my graphic settings below medium to even be able to have a stable game. The character models are often glitchy and at the beginning, the game had stability problems(the stability issues have since been resolved).I could live with these slight defects quite easily with the exception of one problem. Loading times on character models. Character models of other players and NPC's will sometimes take up to 5 minutes to load. You could be standing right next to an NPC or player you wish to talk to and they wouldn’t even appear on your screen. You could walk right past them 10 times and not see them. This leads to large amounts of frustration and is the only real major let down I feel the game has.Its faults aside this game is alot of fun and I would recommend it to any gamer who has played MMO's before if they don’t mind a bit of "buggy ness".I’m not sure inexperienced MMO gamers would enjoy the experience to its full potential as it might put them off. Though if you would really like to try this game out I would say you have made a good choice.Good luck to you in the Empire of Istaria

Having been beta testing this game, I can say that the graphics look amazing even with the quality turned down low for my old g-force 2, and the moon is a must see, fantastically atmospheric, aside from the looks, the game play is easy to pick up, the classes are pretty good, and the monsters AI looks like it could be somthing to be reconed with. The sound does seem a little poor on my PC, although people with newer sound cards should get a much better experiance. The Big downside with the game however is the long loading/zoning times, as well as incredibly bad lag. I have been told I have died, only to watch my character continue fighting for a minute, as no one had passed the message on to my graphics card,This will hopefully be smoothed out for the final release. But I would strongly reccomend that you take a serious look at the game specs, and have at least the reccomended. The minimum specs will really spoil your game experience. And a final note, I'm sure you all wanna know........Dragons rock! All the races have benefits, but Dragons just look fantastic.

I was invloved with beta testing this game for nearly a month, in which time I explored many areas of this game. If you find that you are bored of playing the usual elf, human & dwarf combination, look no further.. You can play as Half-Giants and Dragons here. In the final release of the game as a dragon, you will be able to build a lair, and fill it with your hoard of gold and whatever you choose to keep.. The larger the hoard, the sooner your dragon grows into a larger dragon, and flight is possible. If adventure is not your style, you can choose to be a craftsman, and build various items for yourself or use the local consigner to sell you products to the masses. You can be an armourer, blacksmith, tailor, jeweller, dragonscaler, scholar, mason, carpenter, etc .. the list goes on and on.Once you have collected enough money, you can buy a plot of land and use your various crafting skills to build a home and garden, or eventually a keep or castle. This game is a shining end result of modern graphics and roleplay initiated originally by Ultima Online.

...don't let sour comments from some powerplayers (or munchkins - RPG-term) fool you, this game is great stuff.A MORPG can never be Baldur's Gate. It cannot have a story that evolves around you the player. A MORPG is about immersing oneself in the world presented; and the world of Horizons is splendid indeed.I see a lot of people complaining about the graphics, and this annoys me. Some visual flare has been sacrificed, true, but instead you have HUGE landscapes, and LONG view distances. I prefer that to walking around in a bumb mapped haze. It looks GREAT, believe me.As for gameplay, well, you can play a dragon. Enough said. I've tried a lot of other titles like this (Galaxies, AO, DAoC, ++),and they are all basically the same, limited by the type of gameplay a MORPG can offer. Horizons is somewhat different. Horizons offer something more. The music is second to none.A lot of the issues that plagued Horizons has been resolved. It is relatively stable, and you can run it on high setting with any machine above average. Try the free trial...

Remember if you are reading comments from people involved in the beta process, they are commenting on an unfinished version of the game, not necessarily the same version you will receive on order, since the game is in a continually evolving state. There are supposed to be problems in beta, thats why beta-testing exists !I too was on the beta and personally I like the game. I have since purchased it. In my opinion, it has an excellent interface, good playability, good trading, crafting, character progression, spells, combat...The only thing I find odd/wierd/etc... is standing next to a honking great dragon when fighting the enemy. Dragon player characters (ie non-humanoid) are unusual, and their character capabilities are totally different to their humanoid counterparts.Since other people are also playing the same game, your in-game experience WILL vary along with the quality of people you meet. (as will the availability of trade items) Stick to the good people, you already know how to tell the difference :)

Get this game I am BETA testing this game and imo this game could be live already. No steep learning curve and excellent tutorial system to get you into the game the real fun starts once you get off on your adventures, completing quests and you will soon realise money cannot buy you everything. There is tons of items and character modifications to keep you busy for a very long time. A lot of thought and effort has gone into this game The crafting system is as exciting as it could be really and a true path of progression exists for those wishing to make money in the world of istaria. Tons on monsters to keep you entertained plenty of low/med and high levelmonsters for unlimited killing.I love this game and I could not write a review to do it justice so, buy it and play your free months subscription.

...I write this updated review because the game has just undergone a major re-patching, and we are now faced with a different game entirely.New content have been added. Major bugs have been fixed. The performance has improved. Game mechanics have been overhauled. Add to this the most beautiful online game to date, the best player community, and the ability to play a dragon, and you have a great game. The update mentioned is the first in a series of upcoming patches, and the world of Istaria is becoming more and more interesting. Horizons also have the best player customization abilities, and the best crafting system out there...

Since the running of Horizons was taken over by some of the original team, we have seen patches, and game development. The graphics stand up to a lot of other MMOs on the market, I think they're still very good despite the games age. It has one of the most innovative crafting and absolutely amazing building system of ANY MMO I've played (and I've played a lot). It has managed to secure a place in my heart that no other game has ever managed. There are times I've taken a break from it, and I always come back. The community is one of the most mature in any MMORPG and it's started to grow again!

I have beta tested for the last few weeksn and this game has many great features that other MMORPG's are lacking or more over has brought many things together that have needed to be brought together for a long time. I have played most of them out there and beta tested a few as well and this one is by far the best out there at the moment. Hope to see you all online.

I bought the game after reading about it on the internet, and although it was a bit complicated in the begining once you get the hang of it, it is great lots to do and different races all mean you can spend lots of time trying diffrent things.
