This item is ideal if, like me, you have a large collection of material to play into a media player box from an externally connected hard drive. Large capacity hard drives tend to draw more power from the USB port than many media players can provide from a single USB port, resulting in the hard drive constantly trying to start up. This simple solution gets around that problem by using the power from a second USB port. Now I can playback material from any of my hard drives without wondering if it's going to stall or freeze and require a reboot.
