What is the purpose of a Gillette special gift set? Razors are not the easiest gift to buy someone because of all the variants in handles and blades. Unless you know exactly what razor the gift recipient uses then you're quite likely to buy a slightly wrong present. What this set does is provide the recipient with both handle and blades so they can start afresh with a complete setup. And this set sweetens the deal with Justice League branding and the entertainment that the virtual reality viewer provides.So, what's in this gift set? It contains three Mach 3 Turbo blades, a chromed handle, and a Justice League virtual reality viewer.If you're just after the razor and blades then the value for money of this set depends entirely on how heavily discounted you can find it.It's a Mach 3 Turbo which means each razor head has three blades. It's called Turbo because it has a "comfort gel bar" instead of "gel strips". Mach 3 is one of the products that Gillette produced as the great razor blade wars unfolded. I suppose a five bladed Gillette Fusion costs more but might offer a faster or closer shave depending on your budget and facial hair. You might feel there is little value in having a vibrating battery powered system. Personal choice.So, that's the razor, what about the Justice League themed VR viewer. This is surprisingly entertaining, although only for a brief time. Folding it into a box shape, installing the Android app on my phone, slotting it all together and playing games took just minutes. Although I'm short sighted I found I had to keep my glasses on - you're focusing through lenses on a screen mere centimetres away. The visual quality off the games is somewhere between PlayStation 2 and PlayStation 3 but with the major added thrill that you can look all around you and everything is in 3D. The control system involves focusing a little white dot on the thing you want to trigger - this took me a minute to figure out, I'm sure younger people would just understand it implicitly.After 10 minutes I had no further wish to play with the headset, but maybe the mileage of the recipient of this gift might differ.

My other half has used different Gillette razors; such as the Fusion Proglide and Fusion Power, but his preferred blade is a Mach3. He’s not hirsute; but as he only shaves once per week there’s a modest amount of growth to remove. This blade follows the contours of his face smoothly and cleanly removes hair without his skin feeling abraded or irritated. The handle seems a little chunkier but the design ensures a firm, non-slippery grip during use. It’s a pity it’s a standard silver; some sort of superhero emblem added to the handle would have really elevated this as a gift.So, the Justice League virtual reality headset thingy?Nope my other half isn’t interested so the only thing I can say is that construction is easy and the instructions to download the required apps straightforward. I thought the headset looked like chunky 3D glasses and can’t quite grasp that you have to look inside the box. I quickly tried this and found the strong magnification of the glass made me feel a little nauseous. To my other half this is just an added gimmick to amp up appeal for a standard razor set; one he’s happy with regardless of what else has been added. This is a great quality razor with two spare blades. I found the plastic-textured handle comfortable to hold and smart in appearance.I have quite coarse facial hair but the razor cut through it with no problem at all. It gives me a good close shave, better than my usual electric shaver. So far there have been no nicks or scratches.The VR headset is a light plastic thing you fold into place, a bit like origami. You put your smartphone into the slot at the back of the headset and look through the lenses to see what wonders will be displayed.Before this happens you have to download the Gillette VR 'Justice League' app and (with Android phones anyway) the Google Cardboard app.Unfortunately this is where I came to a juddering halt, as it transpired my phone wasn't VR-compatible. Apparently for it to work your phone has to have a built-in gyroscope, which my mid-range Samsung J5 (2016) doesn't. Obviously it's just a novelty item really, but if you're planning to give this as a gift you might want to check that the recipient has a phone that will work with it.

An excellent gift for any man interested in Super Heros. Bound to cause a smile on unwrapping. But does it work. A great big yes. The 3 blades per cartridge give a smoothe effortless shave and are very easy on facial skin. The technology is brilliant allowing the shaving head to ride closely the curves, nooks and crannies of the old visog. I have had this type of razor before and have decided that this is one of the best. The replacement blades are expensive, but they do last longer and therefor are actually good value.A very keen price from AMAZON.

I must state that my preferred blade is a Wilkinson Sword Hydra. I have very sensitive skin and find the lubrication given by WS is superior to Gillette. I used to use Mach3 blades and actually prefer them to the newer Gillette Fusion products. This set is a nice looking but simple gift set. It contains the razer and 3 blades. The actual razer handle is plain and does not have any Super Hero makings on it. Overall, this Mach 3 gift set looks nice and works well, but I still prefer my WS blades. They are in a different league to Mach3.

This razor by Gillette is released in a special Justice League edition to tie in with the movie. The packaging is very nice but what about the razor itself ? Well I found the razor to be excellent. The handle is textured which makes it easy to hold when my hands are wet. The razor gives a nice clean shave. The VR novelty is nice but nothing special. The main thing is you get a decent razor.

I've always been a bit of a slave to the latest gadgets/gimmicks. Every time a new blade or two was added to a shaver I'd love to that one. It's got to a point that new blades are way to expensive.After receiving this I'm going back to 3 blades. Absolutely no noticeable difference and shaves as good as my 5 blades. Going to save me some money:-)5 Stars.

Great christmas gift. The razors are some of the best around and if you dry them they last for weeks and weeks.The included VR goggles are for your phone. Download the app and off you go. You can be batman chasing along in the batmobile. Gave me motion sickness but the kids loved it and it was fun.How to make razors fun - yes I think Gillette did it.

A nice little gift set - a superb razor with a replacement head, and the addition of a VR accessory as a little novelty aside.I think the razor is lovely - good handle and grip, and a nice close shave.I'm less fussed about the VR thingy, but its fun for the children.You can't go wrong with a Gillette Razor - recommended.

This is probably an excessively fancy way to sell a razor but given the time of year (Xmas), it's a great giftset for the price. The razor is ordinary and nothing much better or worse than you'd normally expect from Gillette anyway, so if you want this set only for the razor, it's not worth it.

Beautifully presented if you intend this for giving but I got it for myself. The razor gives a nice smooth shave, although I would love one with a swivel head. The handle is great because it is textured and easy to hold firmly, even with wet hands.

Useful triple blade razors! Incorporate Gel lubricating strip that makes for a smooth moist clean shave! Reliable brand and well priced. A bonus is the virtual reality “box”!which takes a smartphone and takes the user on a VR trip!
