I, like so many others, have decided to go back to shaving with a double edge safety razor. I am tired of paying the high price of the multi-blade refills. I am old enough to have learned to shave with one of these, so my experience will be different than someone who is buying one for the first time. I researched many razors before selecting this one. Prices varied from $19.99 to $100+. Two features I wanted were a long handle and a removable head vice the butterfly opening head. The Merkur 25C fit both of those desires. The razor itself is very well made and has, for me, just the right amount of heft. I shave in the shower, so the fully knurled handle is a big plus for me. In my opinion, the removable head holds the blade more securely than a the butterfly style does and this is important when shaving with a double edge. This razor has an open comb (rounded teeth) vice a closed comb (bar) and i was a little concerned about that as back in the day I used a closed comb style. No worries. I have not noticed any difference from what I recall with a closed comb. Having said that, if you are new to a safety razor do not press and drag as hard as you can with the multi-blade razor you have been using. You will end up looking like you shaved with an angry cat. I have not nicked or cut myself yet and while the shave was a bit uncomfortable the first couple of days it is nice and smooth now. I think this was more a matter of technique than anything else. Use plenty of soap (cream) and water and let the razor do the work. It has the weight to give you close, comfortable shave by itself. Clean up is a breeze (won't clog like those multi-blades) and I highly recommend the Perfecto Deluxe Chrome Razor and Brush Stand to store it on between shaves. If you are looking for a well made safety razor, look no further. You won't be disappointed with Merkur.

The handle is slightly longer than HD Classic 34C and EJ89. the handle diameter is slightly narrower. The blade alignment is perfect, and better than on my 34c. the blade exposure is also small, with a small gap between the open comb bottom plate and top plate. This shaves mild vs my other two razors. the open comb design allows the soap/cream to stay on the skin as the blade passes. It also has a milder blade angle due to smaller blade exposure. It is also lighter than the 34c and EJ89, forcing you to keep a lighter touch with your hand. The shaves have been exceedingly mild, with zero burn/irritation.I should have started using this razor when I began shaving with DE blades. It is FAR milder and less intimidating than 34c, which is the razor everyone recommends to start with, on forums, and here on amazon.I much prefer this razor on xtg and atg passes, but prefer using 34c and EJ for WTG.I think my ideal razor is starting to present itself to me. I want machined stainless steel, like a feather or Icon, open comb design, with slightly more blade exposure than this.If you're new to wet shaving, I cannot imagine a better starter razor. This is the one I will recommend from now on. If you ever purhcase a DE razor retail (at AOS) in a mall, you're a fool

As a young whipper snapper (22 years old) I have been shaving for the past couple years with an electric shaver because I hated paying for god expensive razors. One day I saw a commercial that Rick Harrision from Pawn Stars and saw the double edge razor. I had known of them but I never really looked into getting one. After doing some research and watching some videos I went ahead and bought this razor. My first shave went by very well I must say. Only a couple cuts but nothing super big or deep. I am sure as I get used to it my shaves will get better. I don't grow beards, but they grow quickly so this razor is great for me because the blades are cheap but effective and that's the key.I also tried using a brush and shaving soap.I bought the Van Der Hagen Premium Shave Set (Soap, Bowl, Brush) as an add on item and I can say this is the way to have. It's old school and to me personally it's a more satisfying shave (I highly recommend this item as well)I am super super happy with my purchase and one day i will look into getting a full set (Razor, shaving bowl, brush and stand) one day soon.

I have been using a Gillette butterfly razor for decades. It served me very well, but it was past time for a change.I really like German workmanship, so I looked for a German double edge. Settled on the very reasonably priced model. A bit lighter than what I am used to, but really felt good in my large hands.I began with the Merkur blade that shipped with the razor. What a fantastic combo! For me, this seems just right. My first shave left me with a face as smooth as when I was 10 years old. No irritation or nicks.Right or wrong, I believe shaving with a double edge razor is about 60% preparation, 20% technique and 20% equipment. I think you can make just about anything work if you do you part. This Merkur certainly did its 20%. I ordered some feather and astra blades to try, along with the derby blades I normally use.I am not sure what a $100 razor would bring to a shave; this razor is everything Ihoped it would be. I think you would find that true as well. This model is worth your consideration.

This is a very nice Razor, and I expect it will last forever. I'm fairly new to proper shaving, but a couple of other razors that I have used have been less than perfect, this one however is as close to perfect as I have found.I started out with a razor that I bought from razorheads UK for about 15 pounds that came with great feather brand blades and was a great introduction to proper shaving, it's a mild shave that is close to the feel of a quality disposable but works out cheaper because of the low cost of blades, that razor has only one disadvantage in that its very light weight being made of alloy, now this Mekur is the same sort of feel but its heavier which for me feels better. Its probably just my feeling that heavier feels better quality, but anyway I am very happy with this razor.I use this with Feather brand blades, but I guess any quality blades will feel similar. It came with one Mekur blade, which I have not used yet.

I started shaving with Straight razors and safety razors about 3 years ago. This razor's head alignment and/or positioning of the blade results in this most comfortable and smooth I have ever had by far. I can't stress enough that this is the best razor due to it's head alignment and/or positioning of the blade. I tried other safety razors and they were horrible! Gashed my head up pretty bad. This razor's head alignment and/or positioning of the blade results in almost never nicking myself. I love this razor! I used to think that my Gillette Fusion 5 blade or Schick Hydro was the best ever, but neither of these can compare to the shave you get with this razor with pretty much any titanium blade.I shave my entire head every two days and I never have any major irritation. I always had irritation when using the disposable cartridges. I hope this helps anyone who is on the fence about using safety razors or this specific razor.

My husband loves this. It gets a closer shave and be cause the blades are so cheap he can switch the blade more often. He has very sensitive skin and the typical razors that you buy at the drug store always made his skin red, bumpy and itchy. This razor help with these issues and because it is a closer shave he doesn't have to shave as often which gives his skin a break. We are still looking for a soap that works with his skin, for now he is still using his regular shaving cream which I know is not the best for this product but that is just what is working for us right now.It will take some time to get used of shaving this way. The first time he shaved it took about 15 minutes. Its a sharp blade you have to go slow. He would shave the night before work so he could take his time. Once he got confident in it he was able to shave quicker and now does it before work in the morning and its no big deal.

TL;DR If you're new to this type of shaving, I recommend the Merkur 34c aka Merkur HD.So I bought the long handle Merkur 25c. Maybe I didn't pay enough attention, but at the time, this model has an open comb. I'm new to wet shaving and closed comb, or a guard is what you want as a newbie. My first and second shave with the 25c was bloody and full of razor bumps. I watched all the YouTube videos, and bought all the recommended products, still had a bad time. So, I did some more research and bought the Merkur 34c. First shave was excellent with a few nicks here and there (obviously my fault) .In closing, I think this is a great razor, but not for someone new to this type of shaving and I think sellers should make the open comb or closed comb option more noticeable for us consumers.

Shaving is the men's version of women's cosmetics - completely overpriced. I got fed up with the ridiculous cost of disposable replacement heads for expensive plastic handles. I researched other options and found this Merkur razor. Wow, it's great! It seems scary at first but it handles like a dream and works just as well, if not better, as all of those quintuplet-bladed super-duper-maxo-plastico razors. Yes, the original cost of this handle is quite a bit more but the cost savings for the blades is ridiculously cheaper. I figure that I will pay for this thing within three months with the savings from the blade purchases. After that, it's all gravy. Next round is on me! Cheers.

my favorite razor, love the longer handle, I don't like the shorter handle razors for some reason, just got used to longer handles I guess, I'm 5'10" so not like I'm a 7' giant. I was a little surprised at the rake edge that goes across the face, my other razors are flat edge all the way under the blade edge, don't know why it's designed that way, perhaps to allow closer shave, which it does do. You can feel the rake tips going over the skin, but it's not a problem. I like the screw in handle and solid top rather than the butterfly opening razors, this one holds the blade in place, very few moving parts, easy to clean, no hinges to get gunked up, just my preference.

I love Merkur Razors, they "fit" perfect and like any German product, the engineering is world class. That being said, the razor is very comfortable and fairly aggressive, but not so aggressive as to be unforgiving, which some aggressive razors are. I have seen reviews saying they were disappointed because this razor was not aggressive enough, but quite frankly, it is highly maneuverable, gives a close comfortable shave without nicks, cuts and burn so I do not see what else anyone would want or expect from their razor. I have large hands so I like the longer handle razors and have no problem navigating my facial landscape...try this razor, you wont be disappointed.

Very nice razor. I used the Merkur 180/23C for years prior to getting this. I like this better. It's easier to shave under my nose and because of the open comb design it allows the shaving cream to stay on my face until the blade cuts. The closed comb models essentially squeegee the cream away from your face before the razor cuts. This is just as forgiving as the 23C or more so in my opinion. One more thing... I recently purchased the Fatip Piccolo V2 which is supposed to be a great, fairly aggressive open comb razor. I have been left unimpressed and am going back to the 25C. I can get just as close a shave with the 25C without the occasional nicks.

I have been using cartridge razors for many years, I always found Wilkinson far superior to Gillette. However, I have recently switched back to Double Edged razors and have found them VASTLY superior. So far, I have bought three. The first is a Weishi which is a great butterfly Razor but a bit mild. The second is a Chinese copy of the Merkur Futur adjustable (£20) which is brilliant. Finally this one - the open comb Merkur 25C. This is the best of the lot - the open comb gives an amazing shave without a single nick. I cannot understand why there is such a prevalence of closed comb razors on the market. Don't hesitate!

Good balance, solid construction, no rough edges or irregularities that I can see. Clamps and holds the razor solidly with no slop.Disposable razors irritated my skin something awful, which is why I already use a shavette for my face (but that doesn't work so well for your legs unless you're a more skilled contortionist than I), so I figured why not go the old-school route again and get a safety razor? Some recommend the 23c for your legs, but this 25c works great. No irritation, and a good, close shave. Takes a pass or two to get used to, but now it doesn't take me anymore time to use than a cartridge razor.

17.11.2019

I've tried nearly all the razors from Merkur as well as EJ and Feather and this one is the winner - the best all around great shave.the open comb design allows more hair to feed into and be cut by the razor on each pass, similar to an adjustable, but with a similar level of protection as a traditional closed comb.the result is a close smooth shave that cuts more hair than a close comb and without the additional irritation of an adjustable set at an open position.I'll still keep the other razors for variety, but this is my #1 go-to razor now. (for context, I use it with Gillete platinum razors).
