I used to use an electric shaver each morning until, in June 1998, I found that the noise disturbed my baby daughter and I sought a silent alternative. Luckily for me, Gillette had just spent $750 million researching and developing the Mach3 shaver. Having never used a wet shaving system, I was very impressed and have continued to use Gillette razors since, keeping up with the latest development and currently using the Fusion ProGlide Power with FlexBall technology. However, the proliferation of Gillette blades has made it incredibly confusing! All I want to do is shave my face in the morning and yet I now have to choose from Fusion, Fusion5, Fusion, Fusion Manual, Fusion ProGlide Power,Fusion ProGlide, Fusion ProShield! It was therefore a real blast from the past to have the opportunity to use this luxury shaving kit, based upon the original Mach 3. Interestingly, the Gilette Mach3 is still the leading brand razor in the US, outselling the Mach3 Turbo and Fusion razors that superseded it.I tried shaving one side of my face with the Mach3 and the other with the ProGlide Power. I was surprised how little difference there was between the two in terms of quality of shave! The Fusion has plenty of new features but feels cumbersome and awkward compared with the nimble, small Mach3.Even better, this kit is beautifully made, with a beautiful chrome handle and a solid holder that sits neatly in my bathroom cabinet, poised and ready for use each morning. A real pleasure to use and one that takes me back a couple of decades!I am going to continue using both systems for the time being. However, when it comes to ordering new blades, I can get a Mach3 blades from around £1.50 per blade whereas the Fusion ProGlide Power blades cost from £2.54 to over £3 per blade!

Next to the pro-glide Gillette razors with the power ball technology the Mach3 is among one of my favourite razors. I always use Gillette and think they are among the best razors on the market per se. While the Mach3 has not the advantages of the pivoting head, it does not have some of the other more recent innovations which I think are gimicks and add little value to the products. This is not your typical Mach3 though, the grip is a more stylish chrome finish type, it is clearly designed to be one you will retain with the stand and not dispose of when you are purchasing replacement blades. The stand itself has the same chrome appearance, which I think, along with the blade will lend itself to looking smart and stylish in a variety of bathroom/home decor design settings. The stand is heavy and has other features to keep it secured where it is set up. The razor grip pops in and out of the stand no problem and it is up to yourself whether or not you choose to leave the blade head piece in place or not.The grip has a razor head piece in place and three replacements, there are other options if you want to economise by getting a less stylish grip with more replacement razor heads. Also included is a canister of shaving gel, which has a nice consistency, foams up well and has a nice fragrance. Everything is presented in the clear plastic fronted box. The set has the feel overall of a nice gift set and I consider that this could be a great as a "first razor" gift set but really it would be a great gift for any occasion. Recommended.

The Gillette Mach3 is a classic razor now, most men will have used one at some point and they're always consistently good. It comes as no surprise then that this set is an excellent way to buy into the Gillette ecosystem, or a great gift for someone who needs a new set.The Mach3 shave is and always has been brilliant - it's a light and nimble wet razor and gives a close but comfortable shave with the minimum of fuss. There are more modern razors out there, but this one does everything just as well as them. The handle is light and easy to grip, and changing the blades is a very simple and quick process as there are no moving parts and everything is well made. This set is a great way to start using the Mach3,the additional blades will keep you going for a long time and the razor stand is a great addition that stops your blades going rusty and dull when you leave the razor in a puddle or or a side. The shaving gel is nicely fragranced and a little goes a long way - I really only needed a grape sized amount to be able to do my entire face which is encouraging and makes me hope that it will last a long time. All in all a great set which should keep most men satisfied with their shaves for a good while. The Mach3 is a classic for a reason and this set is a brilliant way to introduce someone to it.

I chose the set with a stand for the razor, the razor with a blade installed, and three spare blades, which also included a can of Limited Edition Shave Gel.The bright blue gel has a fresh, cologne-like, most attractive fragrance, much like an expensive aftershave. It worked well with the razor which was already a favourite with the men in my family. Not so much for me, at the till! The razor is tactile and well designed. The shiny handle also has a black rubber-like ribbed hold, grip, which helps when angling it around the curves. The blades fly off at the press of a button below the top. They click on easily when replaced. The stand is substantial, heavy and stable with small rubber feet to help keep it in place.Matt silver and black, it is neat and unobtrusive looking. As a set, it all makes an excellent impression. Made in China and imported through The Netherlands. Smartly packaged and presented, the dark blue moulded container looks cool, masculine, and top quality. The shaving is crisp and clean, MACH 3 has been appreciated for years, the first choice here. Don't buy it though, unless you are prepared to keep up the supply, this is one of the most costly wet razors to refill.

This is as good as shaving gets, I tend to go for the cheaper multipacks of triple bladed Gillette razors which do a decent enough job but this Mach 3 razor is a much more premium and weighty version which feels quality in the hand and the blades are better quality and longer lasting.I've also tried the Fusion 5 version which is superb as well, I do actually prefer the precision that you get from 3 blades but I'm splitting/shaving hairs here really as both are excellent. You get 4 razors with the set which will last you months (if like me you squeeze every last shave out of the blades). The blades are expensive to buy again once you need extras but I suppose they are worth it for less nicks, cuts and irritation. The set comes with a stand which is nice but I won't use it as these things quickly get all claggy with dribbles of water and shaving foam (no matter how much you rinse them off). The shaving gel is a really nice cool feeling product and also a nice thing to have - a good razor still needs a decent application of shaving gel or foam for it to go well. This would make a lovely and impressive gift set for a Christmas pressie.

This is a truly luxurious shaving set by (in my opinion) one of the best, if not THE best shaving companies. Gillette is consistently outstanding and we've tried many products in the high and bottom end of their ranges and the quality has not let us down - even the cheaper products last a long time and are just generally exceptional. This gift set is as expected a fantastic quality and luxury design. It's presented in a smart gift box and comes with a very attractive metal handle with grips and is very comfortable to hold and comes with the head attached and a small compact stand to store the razor in upright to keep it tidy. The shave is impeccable and leaves a smooth result with no irritation. We alternate between using electric and wet shave depending on convenience etc and this proves that it's touch to beat a good wet shave! The only reason for loss of one star is that there are no replacement heads included and for £18 that would be a nice addition to the set and would make it more appealing for me to buy for others.Great set and phenomenal razor and I do recommend but an extra head would make it perfect!

I'm a Mach III man myself already, so I was already sold on the razor - it's a great multi-blade reusable shaver, which shaves ultra-close very safely. Blades can be expensive to replace, but they don't dull quickly, meaning you get a fair few shaves for your dosh. Great, then, that this gift set comes with four of them in all.The set itself is presented smartly in a dark-themed gift box, and looks the part as a classy and premium product. The razor handle itself is a bit fancier than some of the starter packs you get in the high street shops, and makes for a slightly posher replacement for older, plasticky ones you (or your gift recipient!) might be using. The addition of shave gel - in my experience, giving a much better shave than cream or foam - makes this a great all-in-one shave kit. In fact, the only thing I ummed and aahed about was the razor stand. It's nice, but not *really* necessary. That said, it does look pretty smart and will not look out of place on a minimalist bathroom counter, if you like that kind of thing!A great gift incarnation of a solid product range - solid stuff.

The Mach 3 razor by Gillette has long been favoured by the men in my family for the best shave ever. They prefer the basic Mach 3 to the Turbo. I also love the Mach 3 for shaving my legs and underarms. The blades - you get one in this box - are excellent and efficient. This version has a handle slightly different in design - it is plain shiny chrome with black. It does look very handsome. It shaves as perfectly as the others I have used. The stand is a good addition. A stocky black and burnished chrome block which sits squarely on the bathroom shelf. This particular one is advertised as a 'gift pack' and I presume the addition of the neat little [heavy] stand is what qualifies it for Gift status.Personally I would have thought some spare blades ought to be included if this is going to be a gift box.So to sum up, the Mach 3 is a great little razor, and this box set of razor, one blade and neat stand would make a great gift if you buy some spare blades to include with your present.4 out of 5 because it only includes one blade.

Very impressed. I usually use a Braun electric shaver, which gives me a good shave for day to day, but every 4 - 6 weeks I like to wet shave for a really smooth shave. When I received this gift pack I hadn't shaved at all for 5 days so I had the makings of a good sized beard going on and fully expected there to be at least some pain involved in shaving it off. How wrong I was. I used a fairly small amount of the gel to soften the stubble and took a tentative first stroke - it was a breeze, so painless and smooth that at first I wasn't even sure it'd actually cut the hair. I think it took about six strokes of the 3 blade razor to give me a shave as close and smooth as I've ever had. So,I'd certainly recommend the razor and gel.The gift pack is a fairly basic presentation and comes with 3 spare blades and a stand for the razor and like most gift packs it's a higher price than buying them all separately. On the downside, I had a hell of a job getting anything out of the moulded plastic inside the box, but managed it in the end.

Great to see that the Mach 3 Gillette still has some life left. These days it's 4 and 5 blade Gillette versions that are hogging the limelight and has has been crowned king of razors, but the Mach 3 will always be its progenitor. The box set comes with 4 Mach 3 heads, the razor, shaving foam, and really cute razor stand that allows you to place your Mach 3 vertically in just about any spot in your bathroom. The stand is far better than the holders that are usually sold with the off the shelf Gillette products. All of this is presented in a really nice presentation box, so nice I didn't want to crack it open.If you are wondering what to buy you are really struggling with what to buy for your dad this Christmas, and if he's around 40, he will really appreciate this Mach 3 boxset as a present. 20 years ago the Mach 3 set new standards for shaving, at the very least he will appreciate the Mach 3 in its own Special Edition boxset and not just for the shaving nostalgia from yesteryear.Recommended.

The Gillette Mach3 is regarded by me as the industry standard for wet-shaving razors with replaceable heads. I've been a user for many years. This is a rather lovely luxury version of the standard Mach3 razor. It comes with the luxury handle, one razor head, and the posh base, presented in a nice box. The little base is weighted and holds the razor nicely on the bathroom shelf. Sadly for me, I don't have to shave every day, so I just throw the lot into a little basket in the hot press, and it comes out about once a week! Oh well. Anyways, the Mach3 shaves well with a suitable gel or foam. There are no additional razor heads supplied, which is slightly disappointing, nonetheless this would be a nice gift for someone committed to the Gillette Mach3 system already and needs a replacement handle or someone who has expressed interest in the product. You wouldn't want to waste your money buying this as a gift if you weren't sure.

Still the best shave you can get. Others may come close, but the mach 3 is unbeatable. Dont be fooled by newer more fancier blades, which cost double of these. The smaller thinner shaver head glides effortlessly and reaches those harder to het to places easily due to its thinner head.Because of the 3 blades, material eadily gets cleaned away and doesnt block, unlike those 5 or 6 bladed heads.Because it gas 3 blades, your face is cooler after finishing. Dont forget, ecery stroke you do is like passing 3 razers over your face . So if you pass the same place trice, you pass 6 blades.Do the same as a 6 blade head, its 12 blades... pass 3 times its 18 blades.. thats got to make your skin sore.Lastly i must talk about price. The shavers are more affordable than more modern shavers, which to be honest dont shave as well as the mach 3Go old school get a mach 3. Its the only shaver i use

As a basic set I think the Mach3 is a decent kit but I do miss the functionality of the Fusion 5 Proglide and those extra blades. In this kit is a small shave gel – which foams up easily and doesn’t irritate the skin. The handle is decent quality with a little weight to it and the rubber grip at the fingers. I do like the fact it comes with a stand rather than having to lay it down too. This one has a set of 4 razor heads – each with 3 blades so it is a much smaller head which I like for under the nose and while it does give a close shave I feel it can drag a little on the skin and feel quite dry and without the rotating head (on the Fusion) doesn’t move as well over the contours of the face (been spoilt with that). You can buy the original Mach3 with a lot more refills a bit cheaper than this though so it’s not a set I’d buy just for addition of the gel and stand.

This is a good if somewhat expensive gift set from Gillette consisting of a Mach3 blade handle, four blades, a stand and 75ml of saving gel. The shaving gel canister has 'Limited Edition' printed on it but, as confirmed on the back, it’s just Gillette Fusion 5 gel in a different coloured canister. The Mach3 blades are very good, probably on a par with the Sensor Excel blades, not quite as smooth as the Sensor3 blades but a million times better than anything in the truly appalling Fusion range (if you've got a week or more of growth, Fusion blades by design just slide over your beard!). The stand is useful, sturdy and heavy with a non-slip base. As with all Gillette shaving gel,I find it lathers and sticks to your skin best if you apply a light layer of moisturiser on your face beforehand.

I have to admit to getting confused with the ever widening Gillette range, however, I do know Mach 3 has been around a long time and was my go to razor before my current fusion was on special offer. The box is simple and straight to the point. A 75ml can of shaving gel, one Mach 3 razer and 4 blades plus a stand. I must say that the stand is a nice addition and something I've never had, might make mine last longer. The razor itself is a nice chrome version of the Mach 3, consequently it has a nice weight and fits into the weighty stand nicely. The blades themselves do the job and I found it difficult noticing a difference from my fusion blades although the fusion razor goes around facial contours better.All-in-all,it's a nice pack at a Gillette-decent price.
