Updated 21/11/2014 22/11/2014Intro:Step into a vast, unknowable land once again in this fourth game in the Far Cry franchise. Players find themselves in Kyrat, a wild region of the Himalayas struggling under the regime of a despotic self-appointed king. Using a vast array of weapons, vehicles and animals, players will write their own story across an exotic open-world landscape. Built from the legendary DNA of its award-winning predecessor, Far Cry 4 delivers the most expansive and immersive Far Cry experience ever in an entirely new and massive open world with a new weapons, vehicles, wildlife and more.In Far Cry 4, you can conquer fortress outposts from the back of a six-ton elephant and take to the skies as you rain down explosives from the seat of your gyrocopter. The vertical landscape of the Himalayas isn't just a pretty backdrop, but a playground that encourages the player to fight, hunt and explore, grappling up cliffs or launching into the air, plummeting to the valley below in a controlled free fall with your wing suit. You'll carry with you a truly unique arsenal of weaponry that lets you play your way, whether it's sniping, sneaking or all-out assault. When all else fails, animals can be your biggest allies or your greatest danger, as Kyrat's wilderness delivers on the promise of a true open world anecdote factory.Difficulty SettingsThere are three difficulty settings in Far Cry 4, hope they will add a Master difficulty later. The difficulty settings are Easy, Normal and Hard, however as always with Far Cry series from Far Cry 2 onwards these difficulty modes have little difference, it all depends on the strategy you use. Don't go for the Easy setting for two reasons 1. You probably notice with a little caution and strategy you can actually play the Hard mode and it's actually fun. 2. Why go for Easy when there is not much difference. I find it really hard to distinguish the difference between these settings, for me there is not much difference and I am playing the game on Hard difficulty with more stealth, and it's super fun! If you're uncomfortable with that go for normal mode never for Easy...At the Hard Difficulty it says "Experience Kyrat at its most brutal and unforgiving" so is normal mode, though it says "A respectable challenge for seasoned players". We're seasoned players, right? The GameFar Cry game series is always put the mark on high, and trying to raise the bar higher all the time. From Far Cry 2 the games in the series are kind of pioneering the open world. The land is designed to hunt, explore and discover with your grappling hooks, wing-suit and parachute. The good thing about Far Cry 4 is that you can play whatever way you wanted. You can be really aggressive with guns blazing, stealthy with silenced weapons, snippery with your marksman tactics. You can choose the strategy or change strategy in accordance with the situations. Experiment Far Cry 4 there is no other way to put it.The AssaultFar Cry 4 is introducing the peril from the above; you can be attacked from the skies above, vertically. In Far Cry 3 it was the horizontal ground that spawns danger from the wild animals and the human enemies and in Far Cry 4 you need to worry about the vertical threats as well, isn't that exciting. The GraphicsThe curse of the PC is managing the graphics, the new games are graphically and resourcefully more demanding. Kyrat and the Himalayas are beautiful with the foggy wind and the sharp environments with every animal and the scenarios are depicted in such detail, are going to be heavy on the PC.PC RequirementsFrom my discussion with a few of Ubisoft employees, almost eight months ago, and to my big surprise at that time, according to them you can play the game with a 2GB RAM, if you've a decent video card of at least One GB dedicated graphics memory on even Windows Vista 32 bit and above systems!! (Don't hold your horses yet, it has a bad ending) That was a big surprise, meaning, those who are with old computers can actually play the game without upgrading (still, you need a good graphics card, which you can get, if you don't have one and try to buy a card with at least 2 GB dedicated graphics memory which won't be that expensive, for example you can get Asus GeForce GT 610 Silent Nvidia Graphics Card for £35 which includes the free delivery in Amazon), What other requirements you need? Direct X version 9, 30 GB of Hard Disk space, and a minimum Core 2 Duo processor. This has a bad ending anyway, later Ubisoft became tough on the PC requirements, Operating Systems till Windows 7 were out, and tougher requirements were announced. Ubisoft is pointing the direction of much demanding PC requirements like the minimum Core i5-750 2.66GHz (Intel) or Phenom II X4 955 (AMD), NVidia GPU GeForce GTX 460, or AMD GPU Radeon HD 5850 1024MB with 4 GB RAM. The worst thing about the requirements were only 64 bit Operating Systems are supported and the video cards needed DirectX 11 compliant with Shader Model 5.0 or higher, even if your laptop has similar Cards it is not officially supported. My suggestion is play with a gaming laptop or PC and don't go for minimum requirements because I am playing on a 32 GB Ram, i7 3rd Gen processor with a 3GB dedicated graphics memory I rarely had bugs and crashes (even Battlefield 4). When you play in a minimum system, you may be able to play but the gameplay experience would be horrible, and you don't want to spoil Far Cry 4 with a minimal system. The recommended system requirements is Intel Core i5-2500S 2.7GHz or AMD FX-8350 with Nvidia GeForce GTX 680 or AMD Radeon R9 290X with an 8 GB RAM. Try to get that requirements, and remember to play with at least 8 GB of RAM.System requirement lab's minimum and recommended system requirement is listed below:Minimum: Intel Core i5-750 @ 2.6 GHz or AMD Phenom II X4 955 @ 3.2 GHzVideo Card: Minimum: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 460 or AMD Radeon HD5850 (1GB VRAM)Features: Minimum attributes of your Video CardRequired Icon Pixel Shader version 5.0Icon Vertex Shader version 5.0Icon Dedicated Video RAM 1 GBRAM: Minimum: 4 GBOS: Minimum: Windows 7 SP1, Windows 8/8.1 (64bit versions only)Free Disk Space: Minimum: 30 GBSound Card: YesRecommended RequirementsRecommended: Intel Core i5-2400S @ 2.5 GHz or AMD FX-8350 @ 4.0 GHz or betterVideo Card:: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 680 or AMD Radeon R9 290X or better (2GB VRAM)Icon Pixel Shader version 5.0Icon Vertex Shader version 5.0Icon Dedicated Video RAM 2 GB RAMRAM: Recommended: 8 GBCPUThe processors for Far Cry 4 are quite fine if you've played Far Cry 3 or Battlefield 4. The graphics is superb in the game and more colourful, but this time Ubisoft tried to make it mass marketing for the PC gamers, without too much upgrading on the systems, provided you were playing in recommended settings in Far Cry 3. Core Duo processor with 2.4 GHz is the minimum for playing the game with a good graphics card, and a 4 GB RAM (and my recommendation of 8GB RAM)My recommended settingsIf you're playing Windows Operating Systems, try to get 8 GB RAM, a minimum of One GB dedicated graphics card, at least 50 GB free HDD space, and the Far Cry 4 will work on the low to medium settings. Remember to upgrade the graphics drivers and direct X to the latest version. If you really interested in playing high end settings go for a 3.1 GHz processor ( preferably an i7 processor with 3.4 GHz), 16 GB RAM, Direct X version 11, updated graphics drivers, a minimum 3 GB dedicated graphics memory, minimum 100 GB HDD space. If you look at the settings you can see that these are the standard settings now and you won't need to start all over and spending heavily on the upgrades, that's the good news. If you played recent games like Wolfestein: New Order, Watch Dogs or older games like Far Cry 3 or Battlefield 4, chances are your computer can play Far Cry 4. Check the graphic drivers, direct X are and make sure that they are updated, again make sure that your computer/laptop has enough system and hard disk memories.Duniya EngineThe Duniya 2 engine is amazing, Far Cry 4 is superior and colourful than Far Cry 3 and the weather effects and terrain will blow you away. The realism of the environment have such a profound impact and the immersive gameplay will take you straight into the game. Duniya, in many oriental language it means "world," from Far Cry 2 made the world very open for the game. In Far Cry 4 the open world concept took new heights, if you can see it you can go there, as you heard before, the difference here is exploration. You can explore the vast open world, and can wander for hours without getting bored, as there is so much to see and so much to explore. Duniya's dynamic weather effects, integrated animation, facial expressions, motion, radiance, reflection, environmental effects, and A.I. are stunning.GameplayThe gameplay is similar to Far Cry 3 but with a few novelty options. The best thing I found is riding elephants (once you unlocked the skill). While riding an elephant, though you can use your weapons, the elephant do the destruction like throwing away enemies and vehicle, and the elephant's one-hit-kill-trunk is real fun.Unlike Far Cry 3 you can kick, and make the boxes and crates to smithereens and of course kicking is very useful in a variety of situations.Cover and SurviveCover and Survive is still the base line of the survival strategy now with much more elaborate movements and options than Far Cry 3.StrategyYou can use a variety of strategic options like stealth, plan the attacks and use the surroundings at your advantage. For example, you can use a beehive against an enemy though you might get a few stings as well. You may be attacked from anywhere from the skies or in the water, and using the surrounding for your advantage is the key. Strategically attacking the enemies further expanded in Far Cry 4 for example, you can rig a vehicle with explosives and "release its break" to wreak havoc! The Karma SystemThe good deeds, like rescuing a prisoner or hostage, will give you good karma points, when you spin the prayer wheel. However, you lose karma points when you do bad deeds and stupid things. Killing animals get you good karma points (and skins) .Auto-driveThis is another difference from Far Cry 3, while the driving is similar you have a new option called auto-drive which automatically drive you to a waypoint you designated. You can use your weapons or just do nothing but view the spectacular surroundings while the vehicle drives you to the destination, it may be boring to do nothing but when it comes to using your weapons it's an advantage.Trading PlacesThere are ways where you can sell your items to upgrade and buy weapons and supplies.1. At the shop 2. Weapons cache in the safe house and 3. Contacting Sherapa, in reality Sherpas are a Nepali ethnic group high up in the Himalayas, they often assist Everest expeditions, Tenzing Norgay was a Sherpa who assisted Sir Edmund Hillary for the Mount Everest expedition, but in Far Cry 4 Sherpa is a mobile armoury.Remember, when you unlock a weapon it's available free of charge. At the shop, safe house and with the Sherpa, all the weapons and items are the same including the price.GyrocopterGyrocopter or "Buzzer" is a small gyroplane, as you probably seen Hurk is flying one. It's quite exciting, and you will love the vistas from the Buzzer, and you'll have an "elevated" feeling as well. Riding in gryrocopter is a beauty, it's an experience you would love to have, adding great depth to the immersive gameplay.Weapons in Far Cry 4The famous Ghurkha Kukri is the standard knife you will have. Handguns include the familiar 1911, D50, .44 Magnum, 6P9, M712, and Mark IV. Shotguns include D2, 1887, .700 Nitro known as "the Elephant Gun," SPAS-12, and M133. Submachines guns are A99, A2000, Skorpion, Heckler and Koch MP5, MP34, BZ19 and of course Vector .45 ACP. Assault Rifles include AK 47, F1, STG-90, P416, MS16, and ACE.Machine Guns are the usual PKM, U100, MKG, MG42 and the Russian DShk which is the mounted machine gun in Far Cry 3. Sniper Rifles are SVD, M-700, Z93 (in Far Cry 3 Z93 has the powerful signature version called AMR) and A50.Now comes the special weapons in Far Cry 4 which include The Harpoon Gun (You may have seen this in Hurk's hands), flare gun, flamethrower, Auto-crossbow which fire lethal bolts, recurve and hunter bows. Other essential arsenal objects include grenades, throwing knives and of course, the Molotov cocktails. Not finished, there are mortars and rocket launchers ready for use.BinocularsBinoculars are a great advantage to you. These binoculars are ultra-trendy and with 24x optical zoom! When you spot an enemy with the Binoculars, their location will appear on your radar as a triangle. From the colour you can understand the following info.Green -- The enemy is not aware of your presence.Yellow -- The enemy is more vigilant and is on the lookout for suspicious activities.Orange -- The enemy knows that something is wrong and will be actively searching for you.Red -- The enemy knows of the your position and will soon shooting at you, if not already.Night Vision GogglesNight vision goggles or cry-goggles are good for exploring the dark areas. The thermal capability of the goggles pick up body heat, so the thermal vision in addition to the night vision will be a great advantage. Is it Far Cry 3 Extended?A few complained that since Far Cry 4 uses the same models and architectural designs, Duniya Engine, it's Far Cry 3 in disguise. Of course not, the character models, some part of the environment, textures, some actions are similar to Far Cry 3 doesn't mean it's a Far Cry 3 clone and there are much more exciting things you can do in Far Cry 4 that you weren't able to do in Far Cry 3, also the much much improved strategy, tactics and A.I. Far Cry 4 is a new game with a great story line, brand new side quests and amazing side stories with an exciting and diverse open world. Far Cry 4 opens a much greater world, story, and a variety of side quests than Far Cry 3. Kyrat is fictional, but the open world based on the junction of India, Tibet, Nepal and Bhutan is an awesome open world and you are really taking a vacation there virtually, with this versatile and immersive game.FaunaElephant is the main addition to Far Cry 3 which can be used to your advantage, you will also have wild boar, honey badgers, rhinos, deers, tapirs, Tibetan wolf, vultures, yak, bharal, snow leopards, dholes, sambars, macaques, bees wonder why there are no snakes! And of course the demon fish, I would say it is a cross between Piranha and a Crocodile (of the Far Cry 3) is one of the dangerous fauna in the water.End May Not Justify the MeansUnlike Far Cry 3 you have to make moral decisions early in Far Cry 4 and as I explained the Karma system, it's much more than that. The characters in the game have their own perspectives and some of them can be ruthless and you have always with a choice to make your own Karma. So you have the moral decisions to make to save an NPC from a threat to forming alliances.Liberating Outpostsliberating outposts is harder than Far Cry 3 especially with tougher firepower of the enemies, like mortars that reigns death from above, but more rewarding. The fortresses and outposts can be played with two player co-op. Just add your friend and play the battle together and it's super-fun and exciting. You can use a variety of strategy here like one of your friend as a decoy (obviously your friend not you) making a lot of "noise" and you can concentrate on the mission objective while the enemies are after the decoy.Remember in Far Cry 3 you were only able to shoot the cage to liberate animals against the pirates, here you can actually attract animals with baits and its good strategy (When you kill an animal you'll get some of the animal meat to use as bait.). Your arsenal is further expanded from Far Cry 3 so you have much more choices even when going in with guns blazing, or attacking from the gyrocopter or with the help of an elephant, or using stealth or attracting animals, the options are plenty. Far Cry 4 is all about choices and options you can use to your advantage. Like Far Cry 3 outposts can be used as locations for Fast Travel, and trading posts. Once you liberate an outpost it becomes a base for the Golden Path quests. Watch out for the heavy armoured guards patrolling the outposts.More Challenging than Far Cry 3This is very good news, because the environment is more challenging, for me with a sniper rifle (the signature AMR) it was not that difficult to liberate an outpost without being detected and without alarms. This time we've more choice but the environment also gets more choices. The patience of a sniper won't work that easy in Far Cry 4 because if you stay in one place for longer time the chances of the predatory animals or birds to attack you is much higher, and they will attack sooner or later if you don't shift your position. The A.I. in human enemies and animals are much smarter than Far Cry 3 and it's brilliant, Far Cry 4 enemies are best when it comes to recent modern games as they are much more smarter, dangerous and tactically advanced and of course the human enemies have more air power and attacks that include mortars.FortressesFortresses are little different from outposts, they are much complex and can produce waves of attacks, and much advanced. They have their own gyrocopters, and tougher patrols. The liberated fortresses are excellent bases for Golden Path missions. Once you liberate a fortress it will give a fatal blow against Pagan Min's retaliatory attacks. The House of AjayHouse of Ajay is like Far Cry 3's Dr. Alec Earnhardt's bungalow, once you repossess Ajay's home it won't unlock the map or anything, but it has a great view like Dr. Earnhardt's mansion. You can also upgrade Ajay's house and surrounding with bonuses.Your Own OutpostsI haven't tried this yet, in Far Cry 4 you can create your own outpost, you can create the map with A.I. patrols within minutes. According to Ubisoft the user maps are much easier to create and based on the addictive Far Cry 2 map generation tools.Bell TowersAs in Far Cry 3 climbing the radio towers to unlock weapons and locations are similar in Far Cry 4 as well. These platform-jumping puzzles are replaced with bell towers instead of radio towers. The bell towers unlock weapons, missions, and reveal locations in the map.The time weathered bell towers, somehow reminds me of Tomb Raider's architecture models, will clear the clouds and fog in the map every time you unlock one of tower and it will reveal more locations, activities, and terrain. After you meet the sermi-crazy Longinus you'll unlock new weapons every time you unlock a tower. The MissionsAlong with the single player campaign you'll have the Golden Path missions, Shangri La, Unlocking Bell towers, the Bible thumping Longinus missions, and our friend Hurk came back to a visit so there is, of course, Hurk Missions. Bonus missions independently expands from the main campaign. Longinus, Yogi and others have their own missions for you and which will sprouts more additional missions. The best thing about these bonus missions are that they are not restrained by time or the main campaign you can play those side quests or bonus missions even after you play the main campaign. Side quests also involve assassinations, hunting, racing etc. but each with their own parameters, like in Far Cry 3 you are bound to use certain weapons to complete certain quests.Characters.Along with Hurk, CIA agent Willis Huntley comes back from Far Cry 3, these recurring characters are kind of nostalgic (already!? Yes!). You will meet many interesting characters like Amita, Sabal, Rabi Ray Rana, our recurring friends Hurk and Willis, Longinus, Paul Depleur, Yuma, Dr. Noore Najaar, Darpan, Divya Kandala, Mohan Ghale, and the villan Pagan Min and each character has a story to tell sometimes more than one.Crafting SystemYou'll follow the similar crafting system as in Far Cry 3, you need to craft wallets, holsters and other useful items with animal skins. If you kill an animal using a bow and arrow or throwing knife, you'll get "clean kill" reward which will give you two pelts instead of the standard one and you'll also get karma points.Inviting a Friend: Better Co-opRemember the co-op mode in Far Cry 3, where there is a prequel "campaign" where you are one of the four players. In Far Cry 4, players can actually invite their friends to Kyrat! Yes, together you can explore the vast open world, liberate outposts and fortresses, loot collectibles and the best of all, the experience and items collected will carry over to all players' games when you finish the session.Skill TreesIn Far Cry 4 there are only two skill trees, one short of Far Cry 3, which are Tiger (Combat) Skills and Elephant (Health) Skills. The skills are based on collecting experience points. The ErrorsThe common errors in Far Cry 4 is dropping frame rates, random crashes, game shadows, the black screen where the flora don't render properly and the map is blacked out. Also there may be problems to save or loading the game. To fix these common errors you need to download the patch. Follow these instructions:1.Download the patch.2. Once downloaded it extract the archive on your PC and open the patch.3. Select the folder where you installed the game, the default folder is "C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\Far Cry 4″.4. Select your graphics card and check to make sure that your card and make sure the drivers are updated.5. Select your error from the box in the right.6. Click Verify and Patch and wait until the "successful" message appears. Continue to play the game.Downloadable Content - Season PassFar Cry 4 Season pass will give you additional content and an exclusive day-one mission along with various items. The DLC included are:1. Escape from Durgesh Prison - this is a prison break content where you escape Yuma's prison where you were captured and tortured. You can escape teaming with a friend.2. The Syringe is the exclusive mission mentioned before in the day-one Season Pass. In this mission you'll stop Pagan Min from accessing a rare recipe which can thwart the rebellion. You can play this mission as single player or with a friend in co-op.3. Overrun is a PvP multiplayer mode - you can play this mission as a Rakshasa (monster) or the Golden Path warrior. Capture the territory and keeping the territory is the key aim in this scenario.4. Hurk Delux Pack - our friend Hurk has more to share, with this pack you are getting five missions starring Hurk, these missions can be played in single player or in co-op. The Hurk pack has five new weapons as well.5. Valley of the Yetis - yes, Yeti's I don't know if it's Himalayas answer to Lochness monster, but Yeti intrigued many around the world, and of course, with Himalayan background there should be a Yeti mission. After your helicopter crashed in the frigid Himalayan ridge you need to survive by exploring and scavenging items from the frozen land to upgrade your camp and protecting it from the homicidal cult members when night falls. You can play it as single player or co-op, and this is your chance to see the mysterious and dangerous Yeti. This dark adventure is lethal and harsh, so co-op is more advisable, as it has more dark regions and caves to explore. If you're keen on buying the Season Pass with a set, make sure that they included the Season Pass with it. Sometimes it's confusing that some editions include Season Pass with a higher price but similar titles may not, you can buy Season Pass separately in Amazon as well. If you're buying with a special edition make sure you've the Season Pass included. If You have Low FPSLower Frame Rates Issue - If you've lower frame rates, you can disable the V-Sync which will help the frame rates up. V-Sync or Vertical Synchronization is the key in synchronizing the FPS with your computer monitor's refresh rate. In the monitor, the refresh rate is specified in Hertz (Hz, or cycles per second). It's the refresh rate or the times your monitor updates the display per second. In Far Cry 4 or any other games, the higher the frames per second, the better the quality and the smoothness, but it comes with a price. If your video card has a faster frame rate and the monitor is not keeping up with that then there is a problem, even if you don't notice it. There comes V-sync for the rescue, it makesa way that the back buffer can't copy to the frame buffer until immidiately after the monitor refreshes. There is much more to explain but I suggest if you're really interested you can read about it in the Net, in short if your graphics card produces more frames and working faster than the monitor then eventually frames may overlap over another so the image might appear slightly unaligned or "torn" when there is movement. So it is called "screen tearing" it's not that visible in many cases. When you disable V-sync the frame rates per second and refresh rates are independent of each other which lets your graphics card work as fast as it capable of. It can create graphic or visual glitches, but if your frame rates are really lower, you can try disabling V-Sync.Bugs and CrashesTill now I haven't experienced any bugs, glitches or crashes (I am playing on Windows 8.1 OS with updated NVidia Driver version 344.75. I will constantly update the review with game performance, and further gaming experience. If I experience any problems which will also be reported in the review also further multiplayer updates.Pros:Superb graphicsColourful and vast Open WorldGreat interfaceExcellent Game EngineGreat A.I.Excellent Game incorporationDifferent worlds and ambienceSecond Player Co-opImmersive gameplaySuper RealismExtended stealth, strategic gameplay with more optionsAdditional weapons like mortars and auto cross bowAdditional options like auto-drive and trap settingsAdditional items like grappling hookLarger game time and game worldAble to use console controlsEarly inclusion of wing suitBreath-taking vistas based on the real worldCons:Ubisoft Servers are unreliable (Hope they will improve)Lower Frame rates, black screen and rendering issues (reported)Only for 64 bit systemsUPlay client errors are reportedHeavy 3 GB patch needed even the very first day!Pre-Windows 7 systems were reportedly not playableSystem with Minimum system requirements are reportedly crashing oftenMap editor not supporting multiplayer (currently 18-11-2014, I think they will soon resolve the issue)Many reports on interrupted patch downloads, server and Uplay client issues are reported and I hope Ubisoft is trying to resolve it. Though these are serious cons, compared to the Far Cry 3 or Battlefield 4 release, these cons are much lower. If you have a powerful machine many of the issues like downloading, Uplay client issues, rendering problems, black screen etc. will not bother you.

8.2.2015

The Far Cry series has established itself over the past eleven years as one of the most reliably entertaining in the first-person shooter genre. The series has forged its own identity for setting its games in large open worlds instead of sequential levels (aside from the first game, which was a linear sequence of very large islands which allowed you to approach the objective however you wished). It has also experimented a little with narrative, particularly its focus in the second and third games on the nature of violence and the impact it has on people, particularly untrained civilians who turn into walking arsenals of death in order to complete the game objective. The fourth game in the series is unusual in that it's the first game not to feature an abrupt shift in mechanics, tone or setting. Far Cry 2 introduced the large open world idea, whilst Far Cry 3 brought in radio towers, crafting and the notion of a free-flowing war going on outside of the storyline, with you able to fight in battles and take over enemy outposts at will. Far Cry 4 surprisingly does little to change this formula, instead refining what came before and, slightly awkwardly, stepping back from some of the things the previous game attempted. On paper the setting may sound very different, but a lot of the action takes place in the lower Kyrat valley which is extremely lush and you may forget which game you are playing until you look up and see the mountains. In terms of gameplay things are less 'similar' than 'identical' to Far Cry 3. There is still a mix of focused story missions, optional side-quests and environmental challenges, alongside a whole host of other activities (like racing or escorting deliveries). It's just all happening in the Himalayas rather than the Pacific Ocean, so less sharks and more yaks and weaponised elephants. There's more variety in the design of the radio towers and enemy camps (which are now a lot more interesting and challenging to take on), and things are made more complicated by the introduction of fortresses. These larger, more heavily-guarded camps make for a more formidable challenge, introduced just at the point when your character is developing into an unstoppable one-man arsenal. All of this is still good fun to play, of course. If you want a really boring review, if you really liked Far Cry 3 you'll probably really like this. I wouldn't play them back to back, and there is a question if a glorified reskin of an existing game is worth full price, but Far Cry 4 is certainly enjoyable. There are several problems with the game, although they seem to stem from a genuine desire to make up for problems in its predecessor. Far Cry 3 took some flak for its use of the 'white saviour' trope and for its storyline about how the main character was corrupted by all the death and destruction he caused, which felt a little like the game having its cake and eating it. Far Cry 4 uses a native main character, which is a nice touch if one that has absolutely no impact on gameplay, and dials back the moral erosion stuff. It's been done before and would have been redundant to do it again, but it does remove any kind of emotional or character arc from Ghale's story. Jason Brody from Far Cry 3 may have been an utter tool, but at least he had a storyline to follow. Ghale spends the entirety of Far Cry 4 in a state of vague bemusement at what's going on and ultimately becomes a total non-entity. They may as well have gone for an unnamed silent protagonist. In terms of characters, the game struggles to come up with any that are interesting. The Golden Path leaders are fanatics and Pagan Min is entertainingly psychotic but a pale shadow of Far Cry 3's Vaas. The game does break with convention by bringing in returning characters (CIA agent Willis and inept mercenary Hurk both return from Far Cry 3) and referencing others (Jack Carver is mentioned, placing FC3 and 4 resolutely in the same universe as the original game, surprisingly). There's also a really weird subplot set in the mystical realm of Shangri-La which features a magical remote-controlled tiger, exploding arrows and gigantic bells which transport people between dimensions or something. These interludes feel like a completely different game has suddenly rammed itself into Far Cry 4 for no reason, but get points for just breaking things up a bit.So, Far Cry 4 (***½). It has less interesting characters, a duller storyline and rather less innovation than its forebears. It's also still quite a lot of fun and allows you to shoot honey badgers up the backside with arrows (although they don't care). Playable, enjoyable but the first game in the series which is almost completely disposable. Pick up when it's going cheap.PS No lions, I lied.

28.1.2015

As AJ, your adventure starts in quite a disorientating fashion as you find yourself thrust into the uprising against fey dictator Pagan Min very quickly, through a series of interesting and very entertaining encounters. The country (an obvious analogue for Nepal) is beautiful, and comes complete with snowy mountains and river gorges which you can navigate in a great plethora of ways, from quad bikes to trucks, cars, boats, mini-hovercraft, gliders and even a gyro-copter (great fun). Your co-stars are interesting too - a squabbling brother and sister team of revolutionaries who are fighting for the soul of their country against the despotic Min, but in very different ways.Animal hunting to make supplies is back,as are missions to assassinate bad guys in specific ways, but this time the game has a greater spread of things to do than in Far Cry 3, and it makes the completion of most of the dream-sequences optional which is great for someone like me who doesn't like playing action 'in the character's head'. Weapons are fun and varied, and some of the favourites from 3 are back. Hurk is also back, and worth every penny. For me, the Hurk missions were pure gold, and the funniest and most exciting of the entire game. The dialogue and moral choices are well written and often shocking, and you'll feel several genuine moments of victory and shifting allegiances as challenging decisions are pushed your way. Min is great fun, and for me was easily on a par with Vas.The main character's story is also quite personal and emotional, although I found I connected more with the lead's friends in Far Cry 3, and found some of the things that happened to them far more controversial and better written. And there's the rub...Far Cry 1 was about a captain for hire who gets stranded on a mad geniuses' tropical island and fights to survive. Far Cry 2 was about playing off conflicting African warlords against each other as a shadowy enemy keeps one step ahead of you in a vast and very different landscape. Far Cry 3 was about a bunch of idle tourists getting snatched by a nightmarish madman on another tropical island, and one of them rising above it to face his destiny...and Far Cy 4 is about a tourist getting snatched by a nightmarish madman and having to rise above it to face his destiny. With very similar graphics styles and gameplay mechanics to Far Cry 3. The similarities are so great that some media outlets have even acknowledged you can't really call this a sequel - more a vast expansion on number 3 - and they're right.Number 2 set you loose in a lethal, complex land with tough enemies and complex moral choices on a regular basis. This one sets you loose in a land that often feels like you've seen it all before, with enemies who aren't that hard to kill, and an ending that - depending on choice - varies between spectacularly boring (although the game does, spitefully, warn you of it) or vaguely intriguing, but none of it ever feels fresh or pioneering. This is a gorgeous, vast and fun expansion-pack-alike of Far Cry 3, but I long for something unfamiliar and exciting from number 5.

(PC specs: i5 4670, 32GB DDR3, Gigabyte Z87X-DH3-CF, EVGA GTX 760)Thank you, thank you, thank you... Ubisoft has come through with everything I had hoped for in a new Far Cry game, it feels like Far Cry 3 but with huge improvements in almost every area you can think of!I see some mention of bottomed out reviews here about UPlay I've experienced no trouble, the game is rock solid, no pop-in, no glitches, no crashes. Perfect! I've been playing Ubisoft's other release Assassin's Creed Unity so I was really worried that it would be as glitchy and bugged but my fears were unfounded, I've not had any problems whatsoever. The world design is spectacular, beautiful and sweeping, the mountains look incredible, archtiecture and interiors are really well done. And the plants and vegetation are some of the best I've seen. The people and some of the animals are where I can see people saying Far Cry 3.5 they have some simliarities in meshes, but hell that is a minor thing. The game plays in that old fantastic way that lets you off the leash and just lets you have fun, I spent a good hour potching and mooching, with no demands or orders, just figuring things out, hunting and exploring, what is great is the despite the games improved mechanics it is instantly familiar and comfortable to anyone who has played Far Cry 3, I love the new climbing mechanics, and I do like the autodrive too.The new menu system, maps and skill trees are fimiliar but updated. I love the new map, when you clear towers the map updates with swirling clouds fading away its very nice. The moans I've heard about weapons too are also unfounded there is a good range and they are customisable down to the paint job if that is something you are into. I liked the fact that there are Far Cry 3 weapons included. The last thing I was worried would go was the random, weird and pointless junk that you find in crates and on bodies, its there! I have found a 'bone toothpick' and a 'plastic elephant' amoungst other things. The weird inappropriate sense of humor in what is quite a dark but beautiful place was something I thought might get lost, with everyone trying to get onboard the serious bandwagon these days, but it is still there. So yeah its Far Cry 3 at its heart but with a beautiful new world, new toys a complete overhaul and all new bells and whistles, and that is exactly what I wanted from it, too many games suffer with a title that looses its way from what made its predecesors work.Pagan Min is no Vaas but I don't think it would have been possible to out do Michael Mando, he is still a pretty fun character....If there was a con it would be the checkpoint system, but I blame consoles for that.

I'm a huge fan of post-apocolyptic survival games, and so when I was recommended this game, I wasn't too sure; no one I knew had it that I could lend it before buying, so I ended up spending £20 on it, which in fairness is a great price for a game I ended up really enjoying. The first time I played it I got bored fairly quickly, but I decided to stick it out and after progressing through a few missions in the campaign I really began enjoying the game. There are so many things that are hidden in Kyrat that this game kept me going for hours, there are numerous different types of missions not included in the campaign, such as various hunting missions, hostage missions, bomb defusal missions and so on that keeps the game going for hours! I enjoyed being able to chose whose side of the Golden Path to follow, although I wasn't particularly fond of either sides characters, I still enjoyed having the choice and seeing how things played out.Characters are a huge part of the game for me and I feel like I need to enjoy playing with the different characters in games. The main protagonist, Ajay, I loved, he's a great character and I enjoyed playing as him. The two leaders of the Golden Path, Anita and Sabal, I wasn't fussed on, primarily because of their plans for Kyrat, I don't want to reveal any spoilers so I will leave it there. Pagan Min, the villain of the game, I thought was great, but I feel he lacked presence in the game, he was very rarely seen, and when he did make an appearance he was great - I feel if he had more of an appearance it would have improved the game slightly. All in all, it's a great game that I would definitely recommend!

While Gre4t Moments review covered virtually everything that can be said about the game I have a few little points to add.Initially I had a few problems and thought it was my system.System Specs:FX8350Sapphire R9 280X Toxic16Gb of 2133 RamCrucial SSDWhen I first installed the game and started to play,I had some horrendous frame rate drops. The initial settings I had on were all ultra so I believed it to be a card issue and dropped all of the settings down to high.Still the same problems, and awful frame rates after a mission failure. So I did a little reading and found out that Watch Dogs had the same issues, with MSAA and TXAA both tanking systems for virtually no reason.I also found out that the Ambient Occlusion setting could also do the same and for watch dogs HBAO seemed to cause the lowest amount of frame loss.So I experimented and found that by using SMAA filtering and HBAO Ambient Occlusion, I now can play the game at Ultra settings with no noticeable frame rate issues.I still get some hitching, but that appears to be an optimization problem with the game itself.Aiming down the sights can be a bit sluggish at times, when you move the weapon out of a frontal arc.Now we come to Uplay, which as usual is a mess, and if you are stuttering ingame it is recommended to play in the offline mode. One final point, when you start make sure that you reach the village of Banapur, otherwise you will be doing the prologue over and over again as the checkpoint and save system do not work in the prologue. Now its time to head back to KyratBob

I play this on the SLI version of the Lenovo Y510PINSTALLATIONInstallation was a piece of cake. simply install the disks and activate the product! It was a little frustrating having to have a day one patch, but it is really beneficial as it allows SLI/ Crossfire compatibility aswell as AI and gameplay Scripting. The patch is only 3000mb and even on my terrible internet, it went by really quickly.GAMEPLAYInsane. If you played Far Cry 3 you will be right at home with a very familiar gameplay. They added lots of little things that make the game a whole lotta fun. Things like kicking, rewards for the condition of skinned animals and a reputation system make the game more alive and in reference to the reputation system, adds a lot of morals towards the gameplay, as harming citizens of Kyrat can affect your story outcome. The optimization is great. far better than Assassins Creed Unity and a general surprise, considering that this game came from Ubisoft: Kiev. There are no crashes at all and is very consistent and stable with the FPS. Vehicles are now so much better. there are more of them and in a more diverse range. there's a gyrocopter, tuk tuks, cars, elephants and trucks. I haven't played much, but it is a must buy if you liked Far cry 3. The game also features a very good Option system for adjusting the graphical fidelity of your game.CO-OPInsane- nothing is more fun than doing a open world game with your chum.VERDICT10/10 no problems! 100% pure far cry game and the best in the series (also pagan min is a badass)

There have already been several detailed reviews, so will keep this short.I was surprised to see so many 1-star reviews, however soon realised these were all the very first ones placed. Unfortunately it seems to have become the norm now that games are rushed out into the shops, only to find numerous issues from the very start, such as installation problems, frame rate/graphics errors, and even basic bugs on the maps themselves. I'm still having issues with Assassins Creed: Unity, and that's been out over a week now. When patches come out on the day of release, you know something's gone horribly wrong in the testing phase. Yes, I agree this is poor and should not be the case, but I will not review the game on that alone.I've played this for several hours now and in my view it's one of the best games released this year. If you enjoyed Far Cry 3, you will enjoy this. Aside from improved graphics, I personally feel more drawn in by this storyline. There's a greater variety of weapons, a two-sided skill tree you develop as you go through the missions, and the map is huge. It will definitely take a while to complete, and even then you have the online/co-op play too.If you like shooters with a half decent storyline, I would recommend you give this a go - albeit perhaps in a weeks time when the price would drop and all the bugs would be ironed out by patches.

More thorough reviews exist so I just wanted to add my comments to the pros/cons that come up regularly:1) is this Far Cry 3.1? Sort of. It's very similar with a few fun extras, but all the things I loved about FC3 still in there. Personally I loved FC3 so much I'm happy they haven't messed with it too much; just a nice, big new environment with a new story (and without the whiney, annoying characters).2) Is this a bad PC port? Yes. It's not unplayable, so ignore the drama queens, but it is stuttery when it shouldn't be and has a few annoying bugs. Hoping Ubisoft address this all fairly quickly but in the meantime i'm still having a great time playing it.My specs are below if you're curious how it matches up to your rig:CPU: i7-4770k OC @ 3.9GHzGPU: Gigabyte G1 Gaming GTX 970 4GBRAM: Kingston Hyper-X Beast 2133MHz 16GBWindows 7 Home PremiumOverall, the game isn't perfect but my word it's still fun to play!*EDIT* I forgot to mention that I had terrible screen-tearing issues to begin with, but the V-Sync has sorted it out quite nicely. Still get some unnecessary stuttering at times but it never stays for long. I found that the beginning cut scenes were far more buggy than general gameplay.

My son gave me the Far Cry 4 game for Christmas and I'm enjoying it immensely. As with the other Far Cry games, you wander about a huge area performing quests and discovering people, treasure and culture. It is a wonderfully graphic game with plenty of attention to the details. The wildlife is amazing and frequently dangerous. The quests can mostly be done stealth-fully or aggressively. You can explore and conquer areas at will. The fast travel system and buzzers cut down on the boring bits, yet enemies trying to retake already captured outposts keeping you on your toes. For example, I just managed to capture the very hard Varshakot fortress by first sniping the enemy snipers on top of the walls. Then finding a secret passage that takes you into the fortress and a quiet spot to hide up until the uproar dies down. Secondly, blowing the main gates with explosive and calling your support troops to help. This draws the enemy including the heavy infantry to move to the area under attack and then mortar it killing them all. This just leaves an enemy helicopter to deal with using an RPG and a lone soldier to dispatch quickly. Job done and fortress secured. A great game!

I've played the Far Cry games ever since the first one which I got bundled with a store bought PC. Although in many ways FC2 is my favourite because it was gritty and realistic, this is the best yet. I won't dwell on the story but instead the mechanics. You play as Ajay Ghale and on your side are the the Golden Path. There is also a large civilian population who do nothing more than run away and scream. The enemy are the Royal Army and Royal Guard, then you have a further enemy in the shape of predatory animals - Tigers, Leopards, Dholes, Wolves, Honey Badgers etc. All of these can attack each other either singly or at the same time which leads to complicated battles when you, say, stop to repair someone's car since apparently Ajay is the only person in Kyrat able to fix cars. The graphics are breathtaking, especially in the Shangri-La and Himalayas missions but you need a beefy Graphics Card to get the best effect on a PC.If you like the "open world" genre and like exotic locations, then this is the one for you !

I played through first on normal difficulty and it was a very enjoyable game much the same as FarCry 3, but on my 2nd playthrough to experience the Amita quests, i decided to play through on Hard, which as far as I can tell is just an increase in animal ferocity and an increase in the amount of eagle attacks on my person, lets face it this is bloody annoying as you have no defence against it and all you can do is wait for it to finish and then heal yourself.Eagles do not attack fully grown adults, unless maybe their starving and their usual prey is gone, except they're usual prey is in abundance, so theyre constant attacks on fully grown adults becomes a nonsense, you sneak up on royal soldier, pull back your bow about to slot the guy but then eagle attack...again and the target is now aware that your their cause the eagle shrieks as it attacks so the guy turned round.Farcry 4 on hard is a pointless experience, theres no real increase in difficulty just an increase in stupid pointless animal attacks.

I purchased this game as it was much cheaper than Far Cry 5 and I wasn't sure if I'd like the series, and it's a great game. The campaign itself isn't very long, but there so many side-quests and activities that provide depth and content. Eventually these can become repetitive but I got a lot of enjoyment out of them and paced them as best as I could. One of my favourite aspects of the game was the driving. I didn't think the mechanics would work very well but they were very fun to play with between flying and driving. The range of weapons and customisation is very good. Hunting can occasionally be a chore, but I did not experience too much boredom with it.Graphics in this game are pretty good but probably not conveying the PS4's true power, but then again it's an older game.At current prices I'd definitely recommend it before buying the sequel. In a way it's a bit like GTA set in a tropical/jungle-like environment, so if that appeals to you then go for it.

I won't labour the same points that have already been said as that wouldn't bring anything new to the discussion, I obviously like this game - it's an easy-to-pick-up, know-what-you're-gonna-get deal (particularly if you're a Far cry vet), and well worth the price. What I will say, however, is that Kyrat itself is incredible. It's a land based on the rich history and beautiful natural and religious wonders of Nepal. I've actually spent some time there myself, and let me tell you, it's a strange feeling seeing these very familiar wonders - multicoloured prayer flags fluttering in the wind; stupas (small shrines) and mani stones (rocks covered in white Nepali scripture)littering mountain passes; spinnable mani wheels; etc - so faithfully rendered in a game. Especially a game where the primary objective is to plant c4 in a blind panic on those acursed Honey Badgers.

This game is fantastic Kyrat is a beauty to behold much like far cry 2 the change of local (not beautiful desert island) has worked very nicely. The gun play is also quite good you can go in all guns blazing once you get a gun but what is more fun is sneaking up on guards from behind and killing them silently or releasing the caged wild animals you find in some places so they can take care of the guards for you. you can approach each mission a multitude of ways you need to decide how to do it.What is also a good point is you can build skills with XP like in a RPG there are also stores where you can buy update and sell various products this really is the best FPS I have played. So why only 4stars why not 5 well three is a stuttering problem but the new patch may fix that they say it does so yeah I sy buy it if the new patch fixes the stuttering 5 stars.
