I was looking for a decent webcam now Skype have binned supporting feature on smart tv's and decided on a portal tv as opposed to a tablet unit. None had any in stock except Argos so pressed a few buttons it arrived three days earlier than advised in fact it probably too me longer to get into the supermarket whee the collection point was than for it to actually get to to he collection point! Cracking little unit but you will need to buy an HDMI cable or you will be back at the supermarket again!

No, that title is not meant to be a euphemism...Video calling in lockdown is largely done on phones and laptops which gives a formal feel to the conversations much like work meetings most of us are having during the day. The Portal TV puts the caller(s) on the other end of the line on your living room TV and allows you and your family to sit comfortably on the sofa (not bunched into the frame for a phone camera) and roam about the room while the Portal's camera follows and zooms on you to fit.

This is amazing - it installed & connected to Wi-Fi easily with clear instructions & clips discretely to our TV top. We’ve held video calls with family using Facebook Messenger & WhatsApp all on the big screen - the camera focuses on us wherever we are in the room & moves with us. We haven’t tried all the Apps included yet but the picture quality is excellent & the games & story-telling options overlay costumes & faces on children’s tales looks brilliant. We‘d heartily recommend this product!

The augmented reality and story time things only really work if the people you're calling have one too, as you can only select yourself to put the effects on.But the call quality and mic are good. The auto zoom does have a habit of zooming in on the wrong thing a bit.Shame it's not built into a chromecast type function too, as all you can stream from it are Facebook videos, so you do fight for HDMI cables in the back of your tele. Otherwise good fun for SARSNCOVV2 times (covid 19)

Portal TV is a quality price of equipment and it makes speaking and seeing family abroad a great experience.It follows you if you walk around the room and will zoom in or out to get people in the room in the shot. You can even tell your grandchildren a story from the ones available and you become the characters!There are effects you can add. You can add other people to the call and the screen will split to suit. You don't need your phone as it is a complete compact unit. Top marks!

We're thrilled with our purchase. The Portal TV does more than we expected. The internal camera is intelligent in the way it follows movement; this means the little ones can run and play and our isolating family can feel "in the room". There are clever stories you can play, and share during calls with others, where your face is turned into the characters in the story. You can connect apps for music etc. Call quality is excellent! Can't recommend highly enough.

I callsI bought this so we could connect with my daughter who is away at uni..I was fed up of us all cramming around an ipad/ iPhone and not being able to all get in the frame..portal changes all this as we see our daughter on the tv screen and we can all sit on the sofa as a family and chat to her. Dropped a star as it is expensive...but equally we have tow daughters who will be at uni for the next five years between them...so maybe a good investment!

Tried to let my elderly mother use skype and messenger on a tablet to talk to the family but the screen is too small and the sound is definitely too quiet ;) The Portal plugs in the TV giving a large image and best of all LOUD sound she can here. Bit complicated to use Whatsapp as you need a phone running whatsapp to allow calls. Messenger seems to work without it.I like the way the camera moves and zooms to just include those in the call.

We bought this for my elderly Mum just before the lockdown as she lives on her own over 200 miles away from both my Brother and I and we wanted to keep in touch visually as well as orally. She is not IT savvy but is able to operate this with slight adjustment (coloured sticker on the 'OK' button so she knows which to press) and a landline call before we ring her on it. Picture and sound are excellent as is the tracking and zoom facility.

Just prior to the lockdown i purchased this for my 75+ parents and now they have been able to video chat to the entire family from the comfort of the couch only needing to be able to press the answer button on the remote. for security i have control of the Facebook account allowing me to add, accept or even deny friends that then appear on their contacts list. this has allowed me to speak to my parents on an almost daily basis

Purchased when seeing a review on This Morning prog - but had been thinking of it to go with the rest of my tech stuff. Took probably 45mins to set up completely - you need router/whatsapp passwords and a device for ID verification reasons other than its easy. Still playing with the apps but video calling is excellent clarity compare with a mob phone and the fact the camera "follows" you is good.

We bought a few of these portals as a family ahead of the coronavirus outbreak so we could keep in touch. I installed one at my 76 year old mums house and then showed her how to use it just once and she immediately got the hang of it. It has really helped us stay connected during this period of isolation. Took a while to get some in stock but it's worth persevering and keep on checking the site.

We are basically technophobes but this was very easy to set up and the picture and sound quality are excellent. It makes it so easy to make video calls and ends the need to hold a ‘phone in front of yourself. Now we can sit down and talk to our overseas friends as if they were in our front room.I do not usually complete reviews but in this case we’re very happy and highly recommend Portal.

We enjoyed seeing our family on the big TV screen and we were able to set up just using WhatsApp as we don’t have Facebook accounts but we have been unable to download our photographs as yet We also have an echo show at home and being able to use Alexa with the portal is good but it would be nice if portal allowed you the drop-in facility as well On the big TV screen

The Portal gives so much more than just using FaceTime or WhatsApp on your mobile or tablet. You feel so much more connected to the people you are talking to. The follow you camera works adequately and the sound quality is good. There are some gimmicks that are a bit of fun, but for ease of face-to-face time with family and friends I would definitely recommend it.
