I've been a professional since 1968, and had just about every bag going, but this one does it for me. In the past, I'd been mostly interested in as small a bag as possible, with the maximum padding for protection. I recently sold all my DSLR gear in favour of micro four thirds. I had a bag that *just* held it all perfectly, small bag, no weight. I got caught out by a sudden rainstorm, when I found out that my bag fitted my equipment so exactly that I couldn't get the camera in the bag with the (longer) lens I had on at the time. In other words, the bag, although small, wasn't working; I'd have had to change lenses in a rainstorm to get it all put away.So I bought the Domke. Make no mistake, this bag will hold a lot of gear. I took it to visit a friend who has a Canon 1Ds Mkll, which is a behemoth of a camera, and, with a Canon 24-105 lens on, it fitted easily, with room for another four lenses if you don't mind stacking them, and that's without using either of the capacious end pockets. On the other hand, my micro four thirds gear takes up very little room in the bag, but the beauty of this bag is that it can either hold a huge amount and bulge, or you can put a small amount in it and with a couple of pats on top and sides, it becomes quite a small bag. Kind of magic…The canvas feels gorgeous, the strap is really comfortable and doesn't slip off your shoulder even on slick nylon jackets. I feel like I'm 'future proofed'—even if I doubled the size of my kit, it'd still fit easily, but with the existing kit, it's small and manageable. It's a great bag to work out of; the extra room inside means you're not limited to one tight compartment to put the camera in, and it makes changing lenses really easy, as there's plenty of room inside to 'work', if you know what I mean, to stand lenses hood down while not in use etc. There is zero padding in this bag, and that's its magic, what makes it able to 'shrink to fit' your gear with a couple of pats. However, unless you go ricocheting off walls with your gear, it'll likely not come to any harm. Love this bag :-)

Overall, the bag is just about right for my needs and requirements. It's not too big, nor too small for my camera, additional lens and bits and pieces that are probably not essential. The only criticism I have is that the moveable divider pad separates the main central section does not fix securely. The Velcro lifts off and then sticks to the neck strap of the camera, this results in cosmetic damage to the strap. The only solution I can see is to remove the divider. For an expensive bag I am a bit disappointed, but despite this I am satisfied with the quality, workmanship and layout.

I have been using Domke bags for years now and each one has performed perfectly. Yes they are expensive but like most things, you get what you pay for. They are well made, well designed and comfortable to use. Like many Domke bags this one should be avoided if you are looking for a bag that has loads of padding. This is designed to be a bag to work out of and not designed as a protection system. This bag will take a couple of professional sized DSLRs and a couple of lenses along with a flash, batteries and all of the other 'stuff' required for a full day of shooting.

This bag has a real quality feel to it and it hangs nicely to your side when the camera is out of the bag because it's canvas. The shoulder strap is wide and doesn't slide off your shoulder. The best way to keep all your smaller bit and pieces is to get some pouches to keep them in. The metal buckle on the lid is a bit of a fiddle but you can be sure it won't break. I haven't been caught out in the rain with it yet but I will have to keep an eye on my kit when I do just in case.

I used to have a blue Domke - and I wore it out, but I'm sure the 'gripper' rubber of the shoulder strap was on the outside - this one has them on the inside, which I'm puzzled to know how it'll work! Ah-ha: They work when you open up the strap for your needs.Takes the kit for a day and some more.Thoroughly recommend it! Missed-out on the fifth star because they are awfully dear.

I do wish it had a little more padding around the area where the camera sits. Other than this, it's a very well designed and strongly constructed camera bag with loads of capacity for carrying others items. I finished up fashioning my own extra protection within the holding area, for my X-Pro 1 and all is well. Having said this, I would still highly recommend it.
