I've owned one of these pens now for 3 years and have given it extensive use, almost exclusively using this pen, so you could say I have plenty of experience with the pen.Ink flow is excellent, takes international ink cartridges (no proprietary Parker or Lamy cartridges here!), with enough space to fit one cartridge in the pen and a 2nd in the barrel. I've had to send the pen back to Diplomat 3 times now for repair; twice because the nib went and leaked ink everywhere (usually not a single drop leaks) and once because the plastic barrel screw snapped. I must say, despite the annoyance of sending the pen back for repair, it was always repaired for free (although I payed postage to send the pen,no biggie for a tiny thing like this though) and was an extremely quick turn around as well.I also own a Jinhao X370 bought to use for the few days whilst this was in repair, and the difference is night and day - the Jinhao writes fine but the difference in weight distribution, comfort, ergonomics and build quality is night and day. The jinhao (understandably) is made from cheap plastic, not the metal of the diplomat, and sits a bit awkwardly in the hand. Don't compromise for something you're going to get a huge amount of use from. In addition to this, I also own a Lamy Mechanical Pencil, and whilst I can't comment on the quality of the fountain pen version, I believe the pencil and fountain pen have very similar ergonomics - which are ok but the moulded plastic is awkward to hold and much less forgiving over long periods of time than this. To put it bluntly, I wouldn't want to write more than 15 minutes with a lamy in my hand (plus the added cost of proprietary ink!)So all in all, fantastic writing implement I continue to use for daily tasks, great build quality but a star knocked off for the annoyance of having to send for repair a few times.

Really excellent fountain pen. Bought for myself as a replacement for a old workman like fountain pen. Nice mix of practical quality and a hint of luxury. Good nib with a clean writing flow, good ink control (note, only supports cartridge not reservoir ink storage and comes with three cartridges, one in the pen, two more in the box) and very resistant to ink blot and spill/leak which is very important as this one lives in a variety of suit pockets. Really impressed with this pen, looks good, writes well, nicely built and with a subtly different design pallet from the bulk of the "nice but not overly expensive" fountain pen market. Recommended.

This is a mid-range steel nib fountain pen, purchased in a flash sale for twentyfive quid. After using it for a couple of weeks, I find the quality absolutely brilliant. Have owned fountain pens from more prestigious brands, that cost me 10x as much as that and the Diplomat Esteem does not disappoint. Great quality, reliable flow, great weight, feels fantastic in the hand. Would be willing to pay RRP on this as I acknowledge I got lucky with the flash sale price I paid.

I had never used a Diplomat pen before so I felt I was taking a bit of a risk purchasing one but I was not disappointed. Excellent quality, smooth flow and after 3 months of using daily and keeping in my jacket pocket, no leaks whatsoever. The design is elegant but modest. I would definitely buy another should I ever misplace this one.
