you know how when you eat multeasers you just want to eat more, well cossacks europeon wars is like that only that when you start playing you cant stop, even if your dad is screeming at you to get off the PC. The first time I played cossacks it was on a demo disk and i thought to my self 'oh thats good i like that type of game it might be like command and conquer or my favourite PC game of its type 'Total Annihilation'. But I was wrong, and now i am proud to say that I was wrong and I am glad I was. I started playing and after a few mins i made sure i was playing the correct game, I thought I was playing cossacks but this game seemed like a demo i had played of Age Of Empires'.But then after playing for a while i realised that this was much better than Age Of Empires (Although Age Of Empires is a very good game). When i start playing stratagy and war games i play a skirmish first to get a feel for the game then i move on to the 1 player mode. With Age Of Empires i played skirmish for 15mins and then gave upand started playing the one player game which i must say was very good in the demo (the william wallace campain). after playing that demo i wanted to buy the full version until i picked up cossacks and completely forgot about Age Of Empires. Then with cossacks i as usuall started the skirmish first and i then did not want to stop i played and played until i saved it, woke up early the next morning and carried on where i was . The game lasted i think about 5 hours and i think i had been a bit ambitious and played on hard against 2 teams. I lost. So i played again and won.I played again and i was on a game that has lasted around 12 hours and that i have not finished. Then i decided to see if the demo included 1 player mode which it didn't and i didn't care i just went back onto skirmish but anougher map which i kept doing, i am still enjoying today about 4-5 months after i started playing. I have not brought the full game yet as the demo has still not ran out of fun. As i wait the price also goes down. I intend to buy it soon. As it is my number 1 game that i give 5 out of 5.This is from your gaming Eggroinous. BYE. And Enjoying

Comments that, at times, you could think you are looking at another game, are entirely correct, and it doesn't take a genious to realise that the other game in question is Age of Empires. However, think you're playing a simple AoA clone and adopt similar tactics and you'll lose big time. There are a number of differences which move Cossacks into a whole new arena. When it comes to the number of units you can create, there doesn't seem to be a limit. The first thing that strikes you when playing this game is that there doesn't seem to be an optimal number of peasants, you just keep creating them, more or less flat out, throughout the entire game. I played a relatively quick game last night and had over 350 peons ploughing, mining, cutting and mining. The huge numbers also refer to the troops. Gone are the days when a huge group of 150 elite cavaly could carry all before them. Multiple units of 200 plus are common. One interesting 'trick' the designers have played is to limit the ability of artillery to carry the day. They haven't limited their effectiveness; a couple of cannon can still quickly dispose of even a large unit of infantry, but they have stopped you building massive numbers and winning the game by making them easy to capture. Get a couple of horsemen amongst an enemy battery, and see them change colour as they become yours. This means you need to guard them, which starts to lead to realistic tactics. The biggest step forward though isn't really in numbers, but in formations. Get 72 musketeers, an officer and a drummer arranged in a line, and they hold formation, they don't turn into an amorphous scrum at the first contact with the enemy. This makes sensible battles, with units manouvering and counter marching, the order of the day if you want to win. It's a shame really. I bought AoA quite late, only having acquired it about 6 weeks ago. Now it isn't going to get played any more.

age of empires 2 move aside! Cossacks is a strategy/ military game covering the 17th and 18th century europe. The Game comprises of 3 different factors:1) campaign2) single missions3) Random MapResource collecting in cossacks has been brought on an eitirely different scale to those of age of empires 2.In AOE2 you collect resources and can reach in to the 10,000s where as in cossacks resource colleting is vital to the game and you can reach 100 million or more. The thing with cossacks is the amount of units both you and the AI can have on the map- over 80,000 units at any one time with a massive range to choose from including musketeers, pikemen, cannons, ships, peasants and many others waiting to be created. The problem with cossacks is that the AI is very passive and often easy to beat unless you drag it out and play with them, they create the same sorts of units each time and are usually very predictable.Detail is very good and music and sound also adds to the experience. The realism is quite good apart from in areas like ships with turning being very fast and looking kind of easy.Apart from all the different units there are also many different structures and buildings you can build with your peasants including economic collectors (storehouse mill etc.), defensive walls and towers ( 2types of wall), military training buildings -barracks, stables, deports etc. Shipyards, houses and the list goes on and all of these helpthe range of the users interaction and game quality experienced during the game.Overall cossacks well worth the money and once you are used to it can keep you going for hours. i would certainly recommend it to anyone and everyone.

I fail to believe that people say this is bad because it is like Age of Empires. Pepsi is like Coke, does that make it bad? Cossacks is, simply put, very nice. I feel that the 16th to 18th century is a time period oft ignored by game developers, when it has so much possibility and scope. And Cossacks conveys the sense of real European war as well as you could hope. You oddly find yourself keeping back your best units, just so you can destroy the opposition with a well timed cavalry charge. What might be the best part is a VERY COOL multiplayer internet mode. The knowledge that you are readying yourself for an epic battle against someone who is just the same as you, a thinking person, is just too cool. And yes, you really can have 8000 on screen, with just a tiny tiny hint of slowdown. So I say down with the die hard AoE fans who hate to see anything trying to better their game, and up with Cossacks, and roll on the expansion pack (which, i hear, contains North American battles like the war of independence!). Very, very good stuff. BUY IT NOW!

How good is this game! I bought it less than a week ago and can't stop playing it!The main game is excellent giving u choices of campaigns, single missions, or random maps. The Campaign mode then takes u through the British invasion of the carribean (my favourite, creating a battleship and watching it destroy any other ship that comes near it!) and several other campaigns. The gameplay is great incorperating large numbers of units and buildings in play at any given time. Another good quality is that i have found no building or unit limits so far (although it culd be that my units keep getting destored before i finish building) and i know that can annoy some players out there.Overall you would be MAD not to buy this!Enjoy.

I don't think this game was meant to re write the genre. What it has done is make what now seems a quite bland AoE 2 more intelligent. For example if i send my musketeers into battle and leave them out in the open they make fine cannon fodder , but place them in a forest and their survivability rises dramatically. You now have to keep enough gold to pay your Navy and without coal & iron they run out of ammo!! Running out of ammo and having a mutiny on your hands just wouldn't occur with AoE2. Far more involved than just building a huge army and stomping over your enemy - i played a sea battle four different ways with the same forces and lost twice. This is a fine game.

This game would be better than Age of Empires 2 if they put a build your own scenario option in. Apart from that I think Cossacks is better than AOE2 because the amount of men u can have is larger and the graphics more smooth. There is however an annoying fault that can be sorted out with a game patch. The fault is that sometimes the P.c can't read the C.D even if it isn't scracthed at all but if u go to cossacks' website there is a link to a place where u can download the patch. I'm not sure wheter u should buy this instead of AOE2 but u could buy it as well as AOE2.

Cossacks ....THE great thing is about it theirs 16 rival nations to choose from each with their own units, technologies and buildings.Theirs over 3000! units to choose from aswell each can be upgraded with a single click. The buildings achtecture [sorry for the spelling] looks so realistic to! units can also have up to 3 formations giving you that extra bit of help. You can use the land as a stratigic help high land is great for musketeers. In addition this is the greatest game i've played

This is certainly on my pre order list. Played the demo and what can I say. Absolutely brilliant and engrossing RTS. Sure to take over the throne from Age of Empires (at least for a while). This will be an absolute hit on-line. Graphics and audio are top notch. Considering the amount of detail on the battlefield game play is smooth with no evidence of lagging. Your old PC will cope with this game with no problems. Buy it.

I agree with the reviewers who say that the game can be too hard. Even on "easy" I think it is difficult, particularly on Campaign mode, most of which seem to be your really small force against some huge enemy. However the game is great fun to play, and the money cheat does allow a "very easy" mode to get to going (although this doesn't help with the Campaigns). There should be a strategy guide book for the game.
