This version is the last of the series worth getting. The next two versions, X and XI (Grandmaster Edition) have a new opening book system based on move order rather than position and so do not accommodate transpositions, a very important feature of chess openings.This edition is also very stable compared to earlier versions.The variety of opponents and opening books make for a very wide range of playing styles though the customisable options are probably better for improving play. Many of the personalities have quirks which may be fun to figure out for advanced players but encourage 'quirky' moves that do not help the improving player who wants to 'learn by seeing'.

I bought this Just after it came out and it has sat on the shelf virtually unplayed for several years. I had 2 periods in my life when I played chess avidly - my teens, and in my 30s - and I have not played for around 30 years. I recently became re-interessted in chess and turned to this for practice and to check my current rating. I cannot praise this package highly enough. I am now totally hooked! I managed to load the game on Windows 8.1, downloaded the excellent manual (68 pages) and since then it has given me hours of interest and fun. I recommend this full to anyone interested in starting, re-starting or improving their game at virtually any level below that of chessmaster.

The product features explain pretty well what this game covers and has going for it. I only have to add that it is extremely easy to set up, and has enough depth for most players. The graphics are pretty good for a chess game and the various boards and opponents types/levels (with included opponent profiles to find one best suited to your own game play) really add to the enjoyment. The game is great. I have played it before. But the problem is that my computer cant install the program, for reasons unknown. So, the game is great, i allready know that, but i can't play it on my computer. I dont know what's wrong, but thats the way it is. To bad, i'd love to play it one more time...
