The Legend M 8x42 is the second pair of binoculars I have ever owned. The first pair, which I still have, was a Christmas present over 50 years ago - a Japanese pair of 6x30's branded ENCORE. Always thought they were OK, but I doubt I've used them more than twice in last 20 years. I took them with me to the Oregon vs Ohio State National Championship Game last January just in case we were so far away I might need them. Well thank goodness we weren't, because after banging my eye sockets into the metal eye cups a couple of times trying to find the tiny exit pupil, I was ready to give them away. During warm ups, my buddy offered me a peak thru his new Leupold's and that did it, it was time to upgrade! Not a high priority mind you, but something to add to my punch list.As you can tell, I'm no binocular expert or someone who would be using them a lot. The main uses for whatever I bought would be for the occasional sporting event and/or watching the birds and squirrels that congregate in our feeders. Generally, I didn't want to spend a lot of money, but had no idea what kind of bang you could get for your buck when in came to binoculars.Once I decided to take the plunge, I did what I always do and after a couple of weeks of reading everything I could find on the Internet, I knew I'd probably need to spend between $300.00 and $500.00 to get a good pair of binoculars.Unlike most, I decided not to go out and look through every piece of glass in that price range. For me, It seemed it would boil down to Vortex Viper, Nikon Monarch 5 or 7 or possibly Bushnell's new Legend L or M anyway I did it. I was also trying to save myself the anguish of not buying a pair of Swarovski EL's if they are truly as good as they say... I didn't want to be tempted to spend over 2 grand on a pair of bino's I wouldn't be using all that much.In any event, I decided to buy Bushnell's new Legend M 8x25's. My thought was, if I didn't like them, send them back or give them to my wife for Christmas. I have always loved Nikon optics. I own two of their high end cameras, one film the other a D3 digital. Vortex is known for being bullet proof and has the best warranty ever. So why the Bushnell's you ask? More than anything it was the reported optic qualities at the price. After using them for a little over a week, here's what I think so far:OPTICS - The image is very sharp and crisp. Has great contrast and color. Huge sweet spot. When I looked for it, I found the top end of the field of few to be a little less crisp, but know where else. This surprised me as I expected to find a little more blurring at the edges. They are very bright. There is no disernable loss of light at night. If I can see an object in the dark with my naked eye, these bino's do also at the same level of light. I found no chromatic aberration or flaring on bright objects at all. This also surprised me because I expected to see some. I was just hoping it wouldn't be too annoying.Besides very good optic characteristics, I found these binoculars to be very well balanced, not too heavy and they feel really well constructed. The jury is still out on quality of construction however. These are made in China but Bushnell's warrants these for life. At least to the original buyer/owner. We'll see.In addition, the eye relief seems generous at 18mm. I don't wear glasses, so I can't say for sure, but I like the way they click out solidly and stay put. Oh, and they are very comfortable, just the right size for my eye sockets at least. The exit pupil is stated to be 5.3mm but all I can say is it's large enough for me to easily see everything very brightly.Further, the focus wheel is very solid and fluid. Mine is a little on the stiff side, but it doesn't wander and I like that a lot. Finally, the only good/bad thing I've noticed. The locking diopter is very solid and when it's locked in, it's locked in. That's a good thing in my opinion, but, it's not the easiest thing to unlock. So don't plan on sharing. Not a deal breaker, I'll buy my wife her own pair. While I was writing this, my next door neighbor stopped by to take a look at my new Legend M's. He's a avid hunter with more gear than I had when I was in the Marine Corp. His initial responce was, "Damn, these are bright!" Then he took the time to dial in diopter and went outside with them. It was 3:30 PM, cloudy and getting dark. After a few minutes of looking around I asked what he thought. He loved the contrast, sharp focus, how bright they were and the large field of view. He said they were a lot brighter than his Vortex Razor HD 10x42's and had noticeable larger field of view. Then he asked me how much I paid for them. When I told him they were under $350.00, he just stared at me. " Really, I'll want to compare these with mine in the daylight and if the field of view is that much better, I may buy a pair these 8x's the next time I'm at Cabela's". Anyway, that comparison hasn't happened yet but I was pleasantly surprised with his comments when I found out he paid over a grand for the Vortex's.

I am an amateur astronomer and birder who has tried all sorts of binoculars so optics quality are very important to me. What I really look for in a binoculars is the usability of the FOV, contrast , brightness and the ability to deliver neutral colours. Obviously, handling is important so let's start by the handling.First impression on the build quality is positive, the rubber feels soft and well put together, the open hing makes for a very comfortable handling if you have big hands. This is not a small binoculars, it is slightly taller than the average 8x42 but I feel that what makes them so comfortable to hold. The lens front cover is attached to the barrel which is great in keeping them in place however, the EP cover are slightly loose and won't sit tight. This binocular require very little re-focusing due to the large DOF.The focuser is smooth but a little resistan sometimes but this is expected in a new bino. The locking diopter is well made solid and locks in place with no fuss. Now moving on to the optics. My first play was around dusk and my observation is as follow. The 8x felt very pleasing to look through with enough eye relief and nice and wide FOV. The sweet spot was really generous, I would say the image start th soften at around 75%Colours are true to life and bright, contrast is really awesome and that is compared with my Vortex viper HD which cost double the price. The resolution is just superb really sharp. I am yet to try these in direct sunlight to see how they handle CA. I owned the first Bushnell Legend Ultra HD 10x42 couple of years ago and all I could say that this M series definely outperform it due the new dielectric coating applied to the prism. To summit up, for the price this is a very hard binocular to beat specially when put to the test up against my Vortex viper HD 8x42, the Bushnell edge it by it's body design and brightness. I am definitely going to place an order for a harness for ease of use, something I wished Bushnell could have added like they did with the old model Legend Ultra HD.Like I said before, I have tried many binoculars from Zeiss Terra ED to Opticron countryman to Vortex viper HD and the Bushnell are definely a winner due to its image clarity, sharpness and colour reproduction.

This is some seriously good glass.I have 2 other pairs of binoculars but decided that they weren't cutting it for elk hunting out west, so I decided to make an investment in some better binoculars. I did a bunch of research, and it came down to these, Nikon Monarch 5's, and Vortex Diamondbacks. I compared the specs and the reviews of the 3, which were all good, and ultimately landed on these because of the "no questions asked" warranty, the ED glass, and the dielectric coated prisms.I'm happy to report that I made the right choice. The view through these 'nocs is clear, precise, bright, and clear. The colors explode off each other. I was able to make out individual stones on my neighbor's driveway from 200 yards away during the day.I could make out individual brush strokes on a painting in a darkened bedroom from across my house. I saw no blurring at the edges. I saw glare only when I started to look toward the sun. There was some slight distortion, but only at the far reaches of my field of view. These glasses are light, but rugged feeling. The armor is sticky. The open-body design lends itself to one-handed glassing. All big plusses to me.For the downsides: The strap is kind of flimsy. You'll probably upgrade to a different harness anyway, though. There is a slight "crunchy" sound in the focus wheel, but I can't feel it, and it slides smoothly. The diopter is a bit hard to twist, but with the locking feature it's unlikely that I'll have to touch that again in the next couple years. The sack and case that come with it are relatively flimsy, too. But really, these things all come secondary to the quality of the glass, which is excellent. Nothing I've listed here should be a deal-breaker for you, or you're looking for the wrong things.I would be willing to put these up against my father-in-law's Swaro's. No doubt his would be objectively better, but probably not 10x better, which is the price difference between his and mine.I would recommend these binoculars for anyone who is ready to jump to the next level of glassing. You can't beat the price for the quality you'll be getting.

These binoculars are amazingly good value. I compared these to the Nikon Monarch 5s of the same magnification and these were neck and neck, in clarity. The nikon did have noticeably poorer chromatic abberation control. These bushnells however suppressed all other colors incredibly well. When the sun goes down and you use these binoculars the brightness is good enough but you notice a very visible brownish color inside both eyepieces when aiming in. Doesn't affect the fov greatly but it is noticeable. The construction is very nice metal with rubber textures. However the one I received has a slight air pocket under the rubber hand grip where it was glued to the frame so you can slightly kink the rubber in,but it doesnt affect anything with the scope so it is fine. Many people complained about the focus knob and honestly mine does feel like it has sand in it aswell but it does not hamper the binocular in anyway the focus is still smooth. The Depth of field on these binos are incredible, I find myself adjusting focus very rarely, unless making big jumps in focal distances. Adjusting the diopter to my eyes settings were incredibly easy and I truly enjoy the fact that it locks into place. However what I don't enjoy is how cheap the carrying case is, with the eyepieces fully extended you can barely get the last mm of velcro to snap on to hold the case shut. The other downside is that this binocular is rather heavy at a recorded 28.6 oz and it was 1 inch longer then the Monarch 5. The weight is not unbearable but it does wear away at you if you are aimed in for a long time.In conclusion I would buy this binocular again, would not say it is the best in low light but it is decent. And I would seriously look for a different case. The ocular and objective lens caps are absolutely fine.Clarity: 9/10Color Fringing Control: 9/10Ease of focus:10/10Edge to edge clarity: (minimal fuzziness/blur at edges 8/10Night viewing: 8/10Comfort: 6/10Accessories: 5/10BUY THESE!

The coating that is provided on the prism of the M-Series puts the rest in their place until you want to spend $1000 on the Zeiss. Th $300 retail cost is well worth the money in build quality, durability, and worth. The red color of the front when observing the user is cool too.The view is clear and correct. I cannot say like other reviewers the complaint of seeing a dark or unfocused area near the edges, perhaps that is only on the lesser models. The prism coating allows the green/purple abrasion edges to go away for the most part even in the greatest of hard edges n the brightest sun. Objects very far in the distance may present the abrasion against the raw bright day sky,as many ~noculars do.I would offer one piece of advice that I wish I had known ahead of time... and this I believe is due to all the other reviews either being shot inn professional indoor clean settings with the black version, or in outdoor settings with the camo version... There was never any mention of the fact that the black version takes fingerprints from what seem to be uneaten white Cheetos, no matter what you do. Pet your dog, grab your ~noculars...prints all over.. Even though I typically do use them just outside my home... or at events I would still opt for the camo version if I were to purchase them again simply due to how well they hide dirt on the unit.

This is unbelievably good glass, especially for the $224.99 I paid for them on sale. I would put them at about 99% as clear/crisp/stunningly awesome to look through as any of the big name $2,000+ european binoculars. About 10 years ago I went to an optics store and convinced the sales guy to sit out back with me and nearly 20 pairs of binoculars at dusk so I could try them all. At that time, I found the Vortex'es of any price class to be easily better than their competition. I still have those Vortexes I bought then (which I would rate as about 95% as good as big name euro glass), and doing a side by side comparison with theses M Series, the M Series is no question a much clearer/crisper/stunningly awesome to look through optic. And they have Rainguard to boot! Bushnell has hit a home run with these.Side note - for any of you who have never experienced Rainguard - it is pretty close to magic at keeping your optics usable in cold/fog/snow/rain. Honestly, the only reason I was even looking for new binoculars, was a lot of time spent hunting and trying to keep the lenses on my Vortexes usable in the exceptionally cold nasty rainy conditions we had this fall, while the lenses on my Elite rifle scope with Rainguard stayed usable with nearly no effort.

Over the last 40 years I have bought many pair of binoculars for birding, my primary hobby. Always looking for a bargain, the reviews on these Bushnell HD M series 10x42mm binoculars convinced me to buy them. I wear glasses, so I needed a pair of binoculars with long eye relief. 16mm or more is adequate, from my experience, but you need 18-20mm to take in the entire field of view. . The specifications listed in Amazon's ad showed an eye relief of 22mm, which is excellent. However, after I received the binoculars I discovered that I was missing some of the field of view, using my glasses. I checked Bushnell's web site and found that the eye relief was only 15mm. So why would there be such a discrepancy?Who knows. But I have decided to keep them because they are otherwise great binoculars. The clarity and sharpness is outstanding. They aren't light but using a shoulder harness helps. They have a nice fit and feel. The focus knob has no play but could be easier to turn. If you are looking for a good deal on some very sharp, clear binoculars, you probably won't be disapointed, as long as you don't wear glasses and expect great eye relief.

don't normally do much in the way of reviews, but this 1 is well worth a shot. if you are like me, and you are looking for a really good set of binos then look no further!!! I read all the reviews. on different binos, and these came up trumps. I was looking at buying Nikon monarchs 7, but so glad I didn't.the light that you see through your eyes are exactly what you will see through these babies, but in a way 10 times better. the crisp clarity, sharpness and colour is outstanding to a point where its like 3d glasses. everything seems to stick out in a good way.I bought these for daily walking, and when I go camping and Lundy island in July, hoping to see puffins and whatever else is over there.i needed a pair of binos to cope with whatever the weather throws at me, because when they get it bad, they get it bad.these from the reviews stood out to me and since arrival I'm a very happy bunny :) people if you read this, or the other reviews on these binos and you like it, simples just buy them!!!!!! you won't be disappointed..

I didn’t even have time to wonder where my shipment was. They arrived way ahead of time and are absolutely perfect a nice tight focusing wheel I like that the diopter has a lock and I really like the clarity of these glasses. Looking through them I have just one big clear picture but I’m glad my eves aren’t any closer together. It might be a problem for small people. I had to replace my minox that were stolen but I think these might be better I wish I could do a side by side because I remember thinking my minox were great.Maybe it’s just been such a long time since I’ve ... nope that’s not it. These binos are great no distortion at the edges of the glass just crystal clear view. You’ll be glad you bought these and from this seller too. I am. I forgot to hit send so it’s a little late but I had 3 friends that a look through these and the first words were OH WOW

Wow! So glad I saved $600 by not buying the razor HDs! My interpupilary measurement is slightly too narrow for most glass, the exceptions being Vortex Talon HD, Swarovski SLC HD, and these(looks like two circles over lapping in the center, not one big clear circle when looking through binos) so, if you're having this same issue, these are some of the best! Low light glassing is awesome as I'm looking across my valley 1000-1600yds and I can still see hikers climbing the mountain 8:30pm 9/12/17 here in Alaska. These will be put to the test over the next month(Caribou, Moose, sheep, goat hunts) starting tomorrow morning with a full review and pictures around Oct 15th.They're also approx 2oz lighter than the Swarvos(in no way am I saying the glass is better without them side by side) but the glass is awesome and they weight less.

I have smaller Zeiss for hiking and larger Pentax binoculars for use at home to compare against. These are superior in color rendition and brightness to both. Wish I had a set of $2500 binoculars to compare against but I'm guessing these would compare well, especially given the price. The focus is a bit sloppy but otherwise the quality is good. Remains to be seen if they will hold up as the adhesives used to accurately fix the lenses in position in modern optics tends to crap out over time. My Pentax binoculars with lifetime warranty (not inexpensive) crapped out due to adhesive failure after 4 years and the set I have now are replacements. Hope the Bushnells hold up as they are impressive.

Bushnell legend ultra HD m-series 10x42 binoculars. Well all I can say is that these binoculars are AWESOME! They are Crystal Clear! The construction seems to be very good! Nice feel in the hands! Adjustments feel real good and smooth! This ED glass is really good! Lens covers stay on good! Nice case for them! Lifetime warranty! And if you don't like them Bushnell will buy them back from you for what you paid for them! You can't beat that! You won't be selling them back because you will love them. Got these for 259.00 and got a 50.00 rebate back! You can spend a lot of money for binoculars but I really don't think they are that much better than these! Buy these! I think you will love them!

The 42 mm Legend M series binoculars are very good. They're bright and sharp, with good color fidelity and a wide field of view. They're also well constructed and carry a lifetime factory U.S. warranty. Bottom line: they are an extremely good value, esp. considering their price point and warranty. I took one star off because I didn't appreciate the feel of the focus wheel, which offered a bit too much resistance for my taste and was "noisy". It's a personal thing that may not bother other users.I just noticed that Amazon is currently selling the 8x Legend Ms for $235. That is a STEAL. You will not find a comparable pair of binoculars at this price.

These binoculars exceeded my expectations and the price was a steal. A few days after I received them, I was in Bass Pro Shop and out of curiosity checked to see if they had them. Sure enough, BPS had this exact same model in one of their display cases....for $399.95!!! Needless to say, I was happy I purchased them on Amazon instead. Clarity is top notch and low light visibility is superb. Water resistant. Fog-proof. If they had image stabilization they would be perfect. Overall this is a great pair of binoculars and very deserving of this 5-star rating. Highly recommended.

We researched binoculars for our upcoming 14 day Alaska cruise. While for many years, Bushnell was at the lower end of quality, they certainly have flipped that myth on its head! Without a doubt, these are the vision sharpest bino's we have ever used, to include some European models that cost ten times as much. The 10x42 power is more than sufficient for almost all applications. The Bushnell Legend HD M-Series quality is awesome. If you want one of the best featured bino's currently available from any manufacturer, buy this 'M' series bino.
