Burnout Revenge is the second game in the crashing series to be under the EA corporate umbrella. Like it's predecessor Burnout 3: Takedown, Revenge features a punk-lite soundtrack and enough adverts to drill the brand names into your mind for life. Corporate dealings aside, it's very much a different game. For those not in the know, Burnout was one of the first game s to include extensive car damage. Unlike other games which featured lights smashed or windscreens cracked, Burnout went all the way - bumpers were torn off, tyres squealed and the cars were quite simply destroyed. The second game, Point of Impact, introduced a new Crash mode where players simply drove into a traffic-packed junction and caused the biggest pile-up they could. The third in the series, Takedown, allowed players to make their rivals crash and should players crash themselves, they could steer their wreck into rivals using the Aftertouch feature. Crash mode was redone as well - if players wrecked enough cars they could detonate their car using the Crashbreaker feature. Following on from this is Revenge.Perhaps the most radical change is the ability to 'check' the traffic. Anything relatively small - like cars or vans - driving in the same direction as you can be pushed away from you, to get them out of the way. The moment you make contact with a car it bends and crumples with a satisfying smash and spins away, perhaps rolling over into another car, or even a rival racer to get a Traffic Takedown. This newfound ability allows for tactics to come into the world of Burnout, - depending on where you hit the car, it will go in another direction, perhaps into more traffic constructing a blockade for rivals to win Takedowns. Traffic checking also introduces the new Traffic Attack mode, which simply revolves around checking as much traffic as you can to get cash. With each lap a multiplier increases, and the amount of destruction and cash you can create is incredible - cars spiralling everywhere, perhaps onto a road below or rolling into a bus and exploding. What would appear to wreck Burnout - a game about driving dangerously and dodging the traffic - has in fact made it far more enjoyable. The second most radical change a lot of people will notice is that takedowns are far easier to get than they were in Burnout 3: Takedown. The tracks have been radically designed for takedowns - only one track was designed for takedowns in Burnout 3 as this element did not go into the game until the last minute - with more walls and barriers sticking out from the track edges and even ramps in the tracks to score another new type of takedown - a Vertical Takedown: land on the roof of a rival for points.Rivalry is an intense part of Revenge, and carries the game forward. The single-player World Tour mode progresses forward via the means of an Aggression Meter - if you drive aggressively you will progress faster. This means taking dangerous manoeuvres, scoring takedowns and getting revenge on those who took you out before - hence the game's subtitle.Aside from World Tour, there are - disappointingly - no other single player modes. The Single Race mode present in all 3 past Burnouts has been removed, which means you can't quite dive in as fast as you could previously. This can be an annoyance at first to past players, but very quickly you adjust to this new style of play and simply choose your favoured event from the structured event menu system. Many of the modes present in previous games are all in Revenge, from Road Rage to Crash. The modes have all been revamped slightly too, to give the game a fresher feel. Some races now include the Crashbreaker - an explosive in the car, previously Crash mode exclusive - which means you can explode your rivals too should you wish to.Crash has been massively overhauled. A meter now appears at the start and hitting the 'sweet spots' in the meter gives you a faster start; miss the spots by too much and you'll either stall or blow the engine. After you start, you can choose where to drive into to launch yourself - checking traffic to start a pile-up early - and using Aftertouch to get more cars after you crash. Wrecking enough cars activates the Crashbreaker, and with repeated hammering of R2 you can create a bigger explosion. Even after it's been detonated, the Crashbreaker can be used again and again if you keep wrecking more cars - which makes for devastating fun.Graphics are extremely impressive; it holds its own on each format with each car - from shiny sports machine to banged up 4x4 - intricately detailed, even when it's just a sharp piece of scorched metal. Damage is enough to make people cringe for the worry of their driver - of which there are none, to avoid a higher rating - with the car's body being able to bend in 3 different places and bumpers and wheels and even doors can be torn off and flung aside. The sound effects are your screeches, bangs and booms - typical Burnout fare. The music is not so good - less bearable than Takedown's - and unless you're a massive fan of college rock the chances are you wont have heard of anyone except Maximo Park, Bloc Party and the Chemical Brothers. Some songs can be listened to, but the playlist is also shorter than the one in Takedown which means you'll probably hear some songs more than once in a single sitting - but that we can blame on EA's corporate blarging.Online is still featured and is managed very well - any buddies you have can all play a game as a single party with a few presses of buttons and the game is fast and slick as it is offline. The only criticisms that can be made of the online is the rather large presence of shrieking ten-year-olds.Multiplayer mode is fine - Race makes it with Crashbreakers on some courses, Road Rage and Traffic Attack feature and there are 3 variations on Crash mode too. The lack of a Single Race mode is still a slight annoyance, but Criterion can be forgiven for that.In the end, Burnout Revenge is a great package. Nudging traffic about and sending rivals into the nearest oncoming bus is great fun and playing with friends makes it even better - and makes it last even longer. It's like a snuff film for Gran Turismo fans; beautiful cars being bent and destroyed in every way imaginable - even off of huge cliffs - but who cares when it's this much fun?Graphics - 5/5Gameplay - 4.5/5Sound - 4/5Lifespan - 5/5Overall - 5/5

Occasionally, the PS2 witnesses the birth of something incredible, something spectacular. This is the result.Burnout 4 has still got the same fast pace, and furious driving as the previous games, but has even managed to improve on an award winning formulae. Essentially, the games focus is the same, race to win, complete objectives and unlock cars and tracks. The graphics are crisp, and environments feel even bigger than their predacessor, with numerous routes to take in each race, giving you different glimpses of each area. You can drive through the coutry lanes, over mountains, through inner city area's, except, now there is even night driving as an option. However, the great thing about this game is the play. Why the name, "Revenge," because this game is all about taking out other cars. Now you can hit the traffic (without being smashed,) providing its going in the same direction and isn't huge. This means you can smash traffic into your opponent's. Also, because of the numerous routes, you can even take opponents out from above! Extra modes to this include rush hour, where the objective is to smash every car you see on the road (providing its in the same direction and not too big) and changes to existing modes such as elimination, where rather than last on each lap goes out, its last every 30 seconds, meaning this isn't a long hard slog like it used to be. Crash mode has rapidly changed too, where now you have a meter which you need to tap at the right time to accelerate off at the start. Too late and you'll blow the engine, too soon and you'll stall. However, what i really love is the increased difficulty which means harder cars to make crash, and levels which have no boundries on mountains (meaning going over the edge if you fancy shortcuts!) Cars all focus on weight, and speed with some funny additions such as the burger van. The overall layout has changed too where you earn stars on each race which increase your rank. Every time you go up a rank (from reckless to dangerous) more races are unlocked for you, rather than a world map screen.Thankfully, the music is good, with over 40 sounds by bands such as Funeral for a Friend, and others included on the disc, but you'll need to lower the sound effects if you want to hear the music as cars are distinctly louder!Putting it bluntly, this game is near faultless, its fast, and fun and a great addition for any PS2 owner. Get it now!

This is how sequels should be.Burnout: Revenge picks up on Burnout3's best bits, wraps it up with some new surprises, and tosses everything into the player's lap, saying a big "thank you, come again!" as you leave dazed in wonderment as to how good this game is...Graphics-wise it's flashier, though with a bit too much blurriness for my taste. The presentation is great, like a comercial: zing-dang-puuf-poww! Got it? No? Try to see it the next time around!Everything is different, the videos, trophies presentations, how you progress as you play, even the loading screens, the whole game is jazzed up, and it works! There's no Dj now, I kinda miss him, but on the other hand, the guy was annoying after some time listening to the same smart-ass lines, this time you get just good music, less indie, more electronic, but still the same quality. As for the tracks, they still happen in 3 continents, in the city and country, but with new scenarios, bringing new challenges. There are shortcuts, obstacles (for example buildings in the middle of the road), and jumps, giving multiple ways to finish a race.Besides the good, old-fashoned race, time attack, road rage, and eliminator, all of them with new features, there is the crashbreaker, and traffic attack (off-shoots from the crash-type of game) in a race form. The crash (where the player crashed against other cars at junctions for money) is also different, you still have to crash, but the developers have simplified it somewhat, while at the same time keeping it interesting (for example, while jumping, the player has to take into account the wind). The cars are all new (though some of them look just like the ones in Burnout 3), with different behaviours and choice of colours! (Okay, not much improvement on this department, but they look great, and what's more, the weight now has a higher influence."Bad things about it? I can't find any to complaint about.Burnout: Revenge is the best racing game out there, period. It offers more challenges than the typical racers, with enough attraction to keep coming back for one more try, even if its just for the fun of crashing other cars. With your friends is even better, especially getting revenge on them for ramming a van into you!

Firstly, I loved Burnout Takedown. It was awesome and it didn't leave my Xbox for months. This had to be even better I told myself and to some degree it is.Graphic wise, it's superb. Fast, smooth and detailed. You can easily find yourself pitching over a cliff or into a wall just checking out the scenery. Blink, and you will miss it. If you wear contact lenses, wear your glasses playing this, I've lost a number of lenses after blinking following long periods of staring so as not to crash!Which leads me nicely onto the crash mode. In the previous Burnouts, a lot has been made of these crash junctions. For some reason they seem to have been neglected here. This is my first problem with the game. You can't just play a selection of your favourite junctions, you need to pick the stage you want to play and can only pick one at a time. Sometimes it's nice to take a break from racing (and losing contact lenses) and it's not as flowing as previous games. Still, the explosions are immense and are quite satisfying. Now Burnout really comes into it's own online. Via Xbox Live you can really test your skills. Think you're the best? You're not. Online it's a different monster completely. Hours of play will lead to success and you'll play against some seriously impressive people. Online however leads me to my second critisism. Chat. I don't want a chat screen to appear in the lobby when waiting to start a game. If a couple of kids want to text each other, fine, but why EA/Criterion couldn't make it private I'll never know. It doesn't even really ruin the game but it's a needless detraction. Still, I spend most of my time when paying this online.Track selection is also a little disappointing. You'll learn the tracks pretty quickly but the addition of alternate routes and jumps is nice. Next time Criterion, PLEASE give us downloadable tracks, this game would be even more awesome! To sum up, looks great, plays well, looses you lenses and give you that little known condition, Burnout Finger (long time players will understand).Buy this. It's a must have Live game despite the niggles. You know you want to.

Burnout revenge isnt your classic racer game. It doesnt take itself to seriously and is often quite unrealistic so if your looking for a serious racing game look elsewhere (need for speed or gran turismo). The games main features-The game has many different levels each with shortcuts which you can spend hours finding out.Your able to unlock different cars with different abilities i.e speed, weight, crashbreaker level. Theres absolutely loads of cars to unlock so you never get boredThere are so many missions- each with a level rating. 1 to 5 star. You earn stars which increase your rating which gives new vehicles, abilities and so on.During the games races you all cars have turbo charge which you must build up during the race by doing dangerous stuff and bashiong other cars. The bashing other cars system is ace as you are able to knock other opponents and it often cuts to slow motion in a variety of ways.Players can knock normal cars with dramatic effects. Many different types of playCrash- Drive your car into other cars using ramps etc. Very fun once you get the hang of itElimination- Racing against 5 other racers. The last person in the timer gets eliminated from the race and so onNormal Race- high speed and bashing.Grand Prix- A mixture of 3 or more races. The overall winner wins.Beat the time- Beat the best computer score on a race.Multiplayer is another high point of the game. It is worth buying just for this. There is online play which i have not tried.Problems with the game-The computer players always seem to be behind you!Even if you drive absolutely amazing and taking all the shortcuts and jumps they seem to be just a few seconds. Also it seems that as you progress and get new and faster cars the computer system also seems to so its not as though there is not much pointThats about it. The game is very long and will keep you entertained for at least a month. Definetly worth buying.

For those of you that haven't played Burnout 3: Takedown you are missing out on a brilliant treat. And this one is supposed to be even better which is excellent news for people who like mass carnage and destruction the likes of which can only be obtained by driving like a complete psycho whos had one too many coffees. There are tracks from three continants. And the cities you will be smashing up within these continants are Detroit, Rome and Tokyo. The tracks are going to be looking more realistic as in more dirtier(if there is such a word) and glum like Detroit(sorry Detroit readers!). It was only natural they did Detroit(sorry again!)instead of somewhere like Las Vegas. One feature that I am looking forward to immensely is that instead of just felow racers being deestructible its the whole highway of cars. From Tuk Tuks (or something like that) to vans. Its nice to think while you are playing the game that you are a wreaking ball on wheels. The revenge in the title actually means something (yes thats right Detroit) so if you keep on takeing down the same car over and over the driver will take a personal vendetta with you and try to get you to explode.Instead of having ramps just in the Crash mode there are ramps in race mode which would be quite nice to go up the ramp to fly of thee end and onto the bonnet of another car. Pleseant thought isn't it, no just Detroit thinks that(psychos).Push a rival far enough and a grudge will be formed between the to of you and that rival will come back to haunt you (well except for he won't be dead) in an all new grudge match. Throw in six player online crash action and you have one massive Hungarian Hoedown!

Take this review two ways - if you don't own a Burnout game and you would like to own a fast paced race game, with big crashes and lots of explosions then I simply say that this is fantastic. It plays like a dream, looks lovely, the online version seems fairly solid and plays well and you won't go wrong with this 'best in class' offering. You can race against opponents, you can race against the clock, you can bully your way through traffic with the new 'traffic check' idea, you can crash your car into busy intersections and you can generally drive like a demon with no care and consideration. When things get hectic, with lots of oncoming traffic, the winter sun in your eyes and your boost on full, then it is a nerve shredding experience, and that has to be a good thing in this kind of game. But what if you have already mastered Burnout 3? I did, and I'm working my way through Revenge pretty quickly. The changes in game play are nice but not revolutionary. The inclusion of dozens of short cuts around each track is cool, but I don't think it changes the game massively. The new cars and new tunes are nice, but largely cosmetic. The removal of the icons from the crash mode just means that you aim for something different, and it doesn't really make any deep down difference to the game. Vertical takedowns (you land on someone) are a nice gimmick but that's as far as it goes. In my opinion, the changes to the game do not transform the game into something worth spending another 30 quid on. They are very good, but B3 was very good as it was and it's on platinum now.Having said that, I can't wait to see this on the PS3....

Burnout Revenge continues Criterion's ongoing Burnout franchise, it has since been superseded by newer Burnout titles, but this still remains as one of the last proper arcade style Burnout games. The newer Burnout Paradise for the next-gen consoles is completely free-roaming, which may not be to everyone's liking. This version has the classic arcade style of choosing individual levels/circuits etc. each with a specific goal (smash things up, race to the flag etc.)One of the best things about Burnout (not just this version) is the offline, splitscreen multiplayer, Burnout Paradise does not have splitscreen multiplayer, only online multiplayer. Playing this game with my friends is one of the best things about the hectic Burnout series, smashing up each others cars, competing to get more takedowns, or win the race (or both) was great fun, and this is one of the last installments for the PS2 that has proper offline multiplayer support. One of the aspects of the game that some of my friends did not like compared to Burnout 3, wasthe new ability to hit the civilian cars during racing/road rage etc. I personally don't have a problem with it, it opens up new game modes (traffic attack for one), and it makes gameplay more chaotic in general (also, in the previous games you could hit the cars you where competing against, so why should you blow up just because you've hit a little civilain car?).The sense of speed in Burnout Revenge is slightly more intensified than previous Burnout games, it makes for an adrenaline rush that would please any hardcore gamer.

I Got it for Christmas one year and near enough completed it. I then lost the CD. So a few months later, I missed it so much that I bought it again!I've done that with GTA: San Andreas too, and that's only because, as many people WILL back me up on, is such great fun and you can never get bored of it. For me, Burnout: Revenge does that too.I had Burnout: Takedown on xbox and completed it. I did think it was a really fun game, but then I played this and thought WOAH. It certainly expresses takedowns in a way to make them look really cool! :)I could name a few bad points but they're just your usual errors and glitches in the game which, to be frank, don't spoil the game at all. They may not be the best graphics compared to the Xbox 360 or PS3, but for a PS2, these graphics are exceptional compared to early PS2 games. Besides, when you're playing this game, you don't focus on the graphics, and you're not bothered either, because this game doesn't take itself seriously in a way other racing games such as Gran Turismo or Need for Speed do.*The BEST thing about the game is the in-race Crashbreaker: an AWESOME addition to the Burnout series. It reminds me of a matrix-style effect, of which when you crash and activate a crashbreaker explosion, just before the explosion, the game 'slow-motions' for a second, before unleashing the ripple of destruction! :)I love it, it lets me take so much anger out in a sort of mick-taking way.4.5 Stars.

I don't get it. All I keep seeing almost everywhere are user reviews moaning because this isn't like Burnout 3. Well, potential purchaser, that's absolutely right - this isn't Burnout 3, but that's the point. This is an evolved version of the racer, and you'll either love it or hate it. The big difference here is the traffic checking syste, Basically this means that you can knock small and medium sized traffic on your side of the road out of the way. This is what seems to have caused all the fuss, as many users are saying that this makes the game too easy, and Burnout is all about watching the road or crash and burn. However, you still crash if you hit large same-way traffic or anything thats coming at you or side on.So burning the wrong way down a highway to get that boost is still as glorious as ever. Only now we've got better graphics, unbelievably well-designed tracks with multiple routes and mind-blowing jumps, evil AI that just won't forget your last takedown and a whole host of other beauties. Not Burnout 3, but Burnout Revenge. A new and different game.

Firstly I am a big Burnout fan. Having played 1, 2, and 3, I know the series well. If you are not familiar with it, it is an arcade style racer with the usual drifting in corners, and lots of contact with other vehicles. The game has races(individual and championships), takedown races(smash other cars), time challenges and crash levels(destroy as much as you can). There is progression system as before where you unlock more levels by winning medals. There are also a good amount of cars to win as you go through the game.Although it is an older game (released in 2006) all the races and crash levels look great. There's nothing like ploughing a car into traffic and watching the carnage unfold,or racing side by side in city streets. It's not the newest Burnout, and so lacks some features introduced in the more recent games. However if you haven't played the series before it's a good place to start if you can pick it up at a fair price.

When I got this game for the first time I regreted buying it and thought i should have saved my money. How wrong was I this game never ceases to please me at every turn unexpected things happen rivals slam you and make u crash making u have pure hatred for revenge. Cars you didn't see coming block ure way all of a sudden , making u do a rash but daring moves to avoid oncoming traffic. Theres tons of stuff to do on this game loads of diffrent modes to try out which are all fun and loads of cars to unlock all of which have diffrent features plus u can get a mobile diner how cool is that! This is a game to mess around on with your mates plus its good to play when your bored and theres nothing on tele.I recommend it to anyone who likes racing destruction madness or someone who is completly new to car games.

This game is amazing, i thought they could not improve on takedown but they have, the graphics and speed are excellent. Each course has multiple routes which makes for some hectic jumps and shortcuts, i was wary of the new traffic bashing dynamic but although this detracts from the realism it works very well. The crash junctions have improved aswell, but they seem to be mostly about luck now as the score multipliers have been removed. If i was to be harsh the only thing i can say spoils the 1 player game is the diffulcty level which seems to be set to easy until the final few races, the level of catch up for your and enemys cars is excessive.EA have had a result buying Criterion and if this isthe sort of game they are going to produce together i can only think the EA bashers have got it all wrong!

Having had Burnout 3, I was a little hasty in buying this title. However, it is actually as good, if not better than Burnout 3.The main change is that you can now bump traffic that is travelling in the same direction as you out of the way. This has made some of the Crash Junctions more intersting as you can take out several vehicles on your way to the junction without crashing, therefore inflicting more devestation. The best part of Burnout Revenge is the way the tracks/locations are laid out. There is often more than one level to race on (high road, low road, paths, bridges, etc) allowing for vertical takedowns, also there are many shortcuts to be found.Overall this game is excellent and one of the best fun driving games you are likely to play
