I had the Blackstar HT valve distortion and was not overly impressed - the pedal was huge, used a unique power supply and didn't really give me a nice heavy tone. So I sold it and brought an overdrive instead. I then realised that I was missing the heavier side and whilst the overdrive was nice, it wasn't metal enough for some of the songs I play.So - having been a bit of a Boss fan for a longtime I brought the MT2 thinking its relatively cheap and would be easy to sell on if it wasn't what I wanted. But, I soon realised it was the missing pedal I had been looking for for years - the sound is just awesome and it will go far heavier than I would ever need! I just love it,it is a rare moment when a guitarist meets his mojo, but always a welcome one!!Why spend all the money on boutique pedals, when a good old Boss pedal trumps most of them without really trying too hard! Many purists moan that Boss pedals are buffered circuits and not true bypass - I say to them get a bit of a life. Buffered is not bad and will help boost your signal should you have 20-30ft of cable so in some ways they help maintain your tone and you'd have to be a cat to hear any issues with them!!Heavy, in your face, pure Metal! If you want to rock paint of walls, this is the one to get!!

I bought this pedal a little while ago to plug in to my Line 6 Spider III to see if I could get a different tone - I had returned it within a week. Maybe it was the amp I was using, or maybe the Line 6's effects are pretty good to start with but I didn't feel this pedal offered me 80 quid's worth of extra 'goodness' on top of what was built into the amp to start with. The pedal is extremely good and it's only because I already had access to a very similar tone in the Spider III's red insane setting that I returned the pedal. I would say if you practice with a Line 6 but gig with a different brand of amp this little black box will ensure you don't miss your Spider on stage. As far as the tonesyou can get go the other reviewer gets it pretty spot on - tones of modern metal such as Killswitch Engage, As I Lay Dying, In Flames etc. can be achieved and there's even a helpful little diagram map in the back of the instructions to show you how to achieve certain signature sounds. Finally, to conclude, I would say this pedal is good if you don't already have access to decent distortion, otherwise it's unnecessary expenditure. Sorry for the rambling review but hopefully my point comes across.

today i went to look around the local music shop, and i was considering purchasing a new practice amp (looking at the line6 spider as it has some nice beefy overdrive) my friend in the shop demonstrated it for me and it sounded great, and i almost bought it, then i noticed the boss pedals which i have seen used in many gigs and my bandmates used them too (mainly the tuner) so i asked him to demonstrate this to me.Basically this pedal is the ultimate for creating that modern metal sound. bands such as Sanctity, Ttrivium, Children of bodom all have a very similar sound to what this beast of a pedal can produce, it has a great range in tones and is so easy to use and set up.If you want some pure brutal metal overdrive this pedal is the one for you.dont spend loads on a new amp like i nearly did, just stick one of these into the clean channel on your current amp (unless ur gigging and its only a 15 watt!)anyways hope this helpsgreat buy, great sound, easy to use, and sheer quality to last

This pedal is a bit marmite, people either love it or hate it. I’m in the love it camp, pedals come and go on my board but this pedal is a permanent fixture along with my Strymon echo and reverb effects. The Metal Zone is a bit of a monster and requires a bit of patience to set up to your tastes but although I own several other different distortion pedals I’ve not found anything better for my distortion needs. I bought mine for £25 at a car boot sale but even at the new price it’s a bargain, built to the usual Boss very high specifications it should last for ever, ( well almost).

now subtleties and precision are pretty lost on me after years of extreme music enjoyment/abuse but i was pleased with the solid delivery of distortion that this pedal gave. using it with bass, it still keeps things punchy even with heavy detuning and it is interesting what a range you can get through the controls.
