Getting perfect horizontal and vertical lines is essential for so many home improvement tasks. This laser guide makes achieving this as easy as possible. There is no set up required: you just pop in the supplied alkaline batteries and the self-levelling laser guide is ready to go.The first mode provides a horizontal and vertical guide line, which is provided by a 10 mW red laser that fires through an inverted T shaped glass aperture. The laser beam will self level within a range of ±4 degrees: outside of this range, the beam automatically switches off. The easiest way to achieve this is to place it on the enclosed compact tripod that has its own spirit level to help adjust the pan and tilt head. The tripod is of lightweight construction but does the job well enough, although is fairly small. Fortunately, the UniversalLevel2 can be used with any standard photographic tripod as it accepts a ¼" screw thread, so was easy to mount on my Manfrotto 055B Pro. The red laser light makes it very easy to mark up walls and surfaces or to adjust that items which have already been hung. The second mode adds a plumb line by shining a red vertical dot above and below, in addition to the horizontal and vertical lines. The third mode allows the perpendicular laser beams to be shined at any angle, by disabling the automatic levelling level. The Bosch is built to the usual high standard you come to expect from this premium brand. This product is clearly built to last and is ideal for anyone undertaking home improvement who wishes to work to a professional standard.

The UniversalLevel 2 comes with an instruction manual (various languages, primary languages German/English/French)It comes complete with 3 x AAA batteries (A nice touch to include these to ensure you can use immediately) and a black carry pouch with belt loop on the back.Regarding the carry pouch, it would have been better to have made this just a little larger so you could keep the instruction manual with it at all times - a minor gripe though which detracts nothing from the performance of the level.Very easy to use with a large red ON/OFF sliding switch. There is a function select button on the top for you to select from the following options:Cross Line with auto leveling which gives horizontaland vertical laser linesCross Line & Plumb Point with auto leveling which also gives horizontal & vertical laser lines with the addition of two plumb pointsCross Line without auto leveling which gives horizontal and vertical laser linesThe laser lines are bright and easy to see on any coloured surface and have so far proven to be very accurate. There is also a tripod thread on the underside of the level with a standard 1/4" thread. It comes with a Bosch 3 year warranty which is also good.CARE SHOULD BE TAKEN WHEN USING LASER DEVICES. THIS DEVICE EMITS RATHER A LOT OF LIGHT SO ENSURE ANYONE NEARBY IS NOT AT RISK. IT IS NOT SAFE TO LOOK AT THE LASER BEAM WITH SUNGLASSES EITHER.

The Bosch UniversalLevel 3 is a really useful bit of kit. Admittedly it's not cheap but if you use a level a lot then this - or something like it - is probably a worthwhile investment. Over the years I've been through a few spirit levels and have needed them on numerous occasions whilst renovating a house. One of these would have been a godsend and would have made some jobs far simpler and easier. Hindsight huh?! Luckily I still have an awful lot of DIY to do so the capabilities of this little gadget certainly won't be wasted.I presume that the 3 in the name refers to the 3 different usage modes: self-levelled cross, self-levelled all lines and slope mode cross. The plumbline feature is brilliant and I've used it a lot...but you will need a tripod in order to use this feature. There is a set with the UniversalLevel 3 and a tripod which, at present, is just a few pounds more if you don't already own one. The working range of up to 10m is great and means that the UniversalLevel 3 can help with applications in most rooms. All in all I'm really pleased with this tool and wish that I'd invested in one quite some time ago as it reduces the messing around and possibility of errors greatly.

I have an earlier, rather boxy, Bosch laser leveller. The advantage with this model is that it’s slightly more accurate - at 0.5mm as opposed to 0.8mm so hardly crticical, But also the range has increased from 7 to 10 metres. The new leveller is actually a bit larger than the older version but I’m not likely to be carrying it around much. It also comes with a carry case and instructions. The leveller is easy to use after brief reference to the instructions. I think it’s really key though to buy or use an existing tripod. Without this it’s a problem positioning the leveller in the precise position you want to get accurate and level laser lines. There’s no much to fault here, with the exception of the need for a tripod. The main control is simply and on/off button with a small set of options on the rear of the device. Understanding these make a good reason to keep the instructions. In use I found no problems apart from my own ability to drill exactly level holes in a wall despite the laser line showing me exactly where to drill! It’s a world away from plumb lines and spirit levels though!Five stars.

Some years ago my wife bought me a laser leveller, and it was 3 times the size of this one, and frankly, it was total rubbish to use! Now, this cracking little bit of kit is really the dogs' hackles!...It has..."Up and down plumb pointsSelf-levelled laser cross3 different usage modes indicated through LEDBosch laser technology - working range of up to 10m1/4" tripod thread".....Handy as I already own a good tripod!Runs on 3 X AAA batteries which are supplied (Personally I always use rechargeables)It weighs next to nothing and is almost small enough to pop in your pocket!.....Though you wouldn't want to pocket a tripod too!The unit comes with a velcro closing pouch with a belt loop.A great bitof German technology!
