When I've seen these glasses in some gadget blog, it immediately struck me - "why something so brilliant and simple wasn't widespread yet?!"After immediately ordering a "trial" pair of these 12 oz ones, I will be replacing now all my bone china mugs with them.Points worthily noting:Yes, these glasses are unreally lightweight. So some people think "why are these so light, like cheap plastic?". Two things contribute to this - first, borosilicate glass is a lot lighter than ordinary glass. Secondly, glass wall may appear thick, but it's in fact mostly air sandwiched between two glass layers. That's why you think they a lot lighter than they appear to the eye.But let not weightlessness discourage you - borosilicate glass a lot more strong than ordinary glass,so even with thin wall these are quite robust (unless you drop them on the hard floor of course).Because these use borosilicate glass instead of ordinary one, they almost completely immune to heat stresses and cracking, if you, for example, pour boiling water into hot glass. They are 100% dishwasher and microwave safe, even in harshest modes. You can even put them in the oven and they will be fine - in fact, the same borosilicate glass is used for high-grade heat resistant scientific glassware.Yes, they lose shine quickly by attracting fingerprints, granted, these are no lead crystal. Still, lose of shine just temporary - pop them in the dishwasher, and voila, they shiny and look like new againYes, they have small imperfections, but that's only because they are actually mouth-blown. That's being actual handmade items, and not just mass machine-produced - and handmade items worth a price! These small imperfections are in no way blemish they beautiful look - it is always a distinguishing mark of true high-grade glassware art.The heat isolation is fantastic! Pour boiling water for tea in them, and immediately you can hold glass with you bare hand - outside will be just warm! In fact, you have to be careful because of that - hot drink can be quite scalding while glass feels just lukewarm, also hot drinks will cool quite slowly.Same with cold drinks, they will not heat as fast and condensation will not form on the glass outside - no need for coasters anymore! The design of the glasses is good fusion of good modern contemporary look and function. The drink inside double walls produces very cool "levitating liquid" effect.I've decided to go with 12 oz (300ml) glasses, as these seem of most suitable and universal size to me. They could be used almost with every drink - tea, juices, soft drinks and quite good as wine glasses too. Maybe only for the beer they are somewhat on the small side.Overall I would very highly recommend these glasses for anybody. I think it is a true glass for 21-century household.

I wanted these despite the reviews about their fragility and was given a set for my birthday. I have to say I've not found them fragile at all (kiss of death there!). They've gone in the dishwasher with no problems, they go in the cupboard with my other glasses, and they've been fine. I'm not silly with them and I am careful, but I don't use kid gloves.I did even have one occasion where my son knocked one off the table and onto my kitchen floor (lino) - it hit the table and basically bounced onto the floor but stayed in one piece. I'm hoping this won't be repeated as I wouldn't rate it's chances on survival a second time, but I was very impressed that it survived that.As a side note,my friend suffers with Rheumatoid Arthritis and has problems gripping, and she loved these. They weigh very little even when full and are comfortable to hold.Essentially I think maybe some are more fragile than others, and bear in mind you're much more likely to complain about something than commend it, so if you like them try them; you might be lucky like me and get good ones! I think they're gorgeous and will be saving for more.Edit, January 2012Further to my last review, I've now got another pair of these lovely glasses as I've been so impressed. The first set are still (touch wood) going strong; they are dishwashed - carefully - and used as normal glasses rather than kept for special occasions (although I must admit I don't let the kids use them:)). I have now also managed to knock another one (no idea if it's the same one as before or the other one) onto the floor, this time from a windowsill onto a carpet, and again it's survived.I've yet to use the second pair, but they've already been through the dishwasher ok. I'm hoping that they'll last as well as the first set and that I'm not going to be on here in two weeks complaining that they've shattered, but only time will tell. Obviously though I'm still very happy with them otherwise I'd not bother getting another set!Edit, November 2013All four still going strong, request for more going on my Xmas list :) Just wish I could justify £20-odd to buy them myself!

I loved these when i got them 3 weeks ago. They were fine in the dishwasher, despite being made from 2 sandwiched layers of thin glass. However, I just handwashed one and, when drying it on the inside with a SLIGHT amount of pressure, it exploded in my hand, so £10 (£20 for 2) for 3 weeks is not a value-for-money situation. They are handmade, I am pretty sure, so maybe I got one with a tiny flaw somewhere in the glass. Other reviews mention damage in the mail, so handle with care ! (UPDATE - READ TO THE VERY END RE FRAGILITY)I may be imagining it, but I DO think that they keep your lager cold for a reasonable amount of time. And should keep coffee hot - but, bearing in mind para 1,don't use a metal spoon to stir.UPDATE - 10 MINUTES LATER - ...AND they drew blood when I cleared the shards up off the floor. For that reason, I'm out...UPDATE - 3 months later - ... the second one is still going strong, although I now AM pretty careful when hand-drying it. Fine in dishwasher, though.UPDATE - one full year later, and the non-broken one is still great for beer and even hot coffee, so I'm upgrading from 3 to 4 stars.FINAL UPDATE 15 MONTHS LATER - unfortunately, I have lost another of these - and a smaller one bought later - due to their fragility. I really like them, but you do have to be very careful about them falling over in the dishwasher, knocking against plates in the sink, and so on. I think I may get 2 more for myself (2 for £[] at time of writing), though. Again.

I tend to take my time when i have coffee/tea so i was looking for something that would keep my drinks warmer for longer, I came across these at my friends house (The old version) and I fell in love with em. When I say old version I mean the ones without a silicon valve at the bottom. The reason being hot liquids caused gas inside the wall to expand and made the glasses brittle, the new ones have an automatic pressure release valve that prevents this so in theory they should last longer and withstand a knock or two.Not sure why but they are surprisingly easy to clean and very light too (probably because of the same material used in lab quality equipment), almost have a teflon like quality to them.Even the most stubborn dried in coffee stains come off with ease which I find a huge bonus considering I don't have a dishwasher. Also super easy on the eyes what with the suspended fluid like effect and really show off the layers on a good latte, the perfect accompaniment to a Nespresso!Unfortunately they're not without their problems, for one both of mine have small imperfections (air bubbles) but I didn't bother sending them back as they're hardly noticeable. The bottom of the glasses have unnecessary labelling which i thought ruined its minimalistic look and inherently a little fragile compared to similarly sized alternatives. All in all Im very happy with my purchase and pretty much everyone I served my latte with ending up getting a pair for themselves ^^

I was given these for Christmas and was initially a bit doubtful, having been raised on the principle that tipping boiling water into a glass container usually results in loud cracking sounds and liquid spilling out in all directions. Happily science has progressed since then and my fears have proved unfounded. They are extremely comfortable to hold (unless you have very small hands, in which case you may find them rather too large to grasp) and are tepid to the touch. The contents of the glass stay hot for a lot longer than a normal china mug, which means you have a hot drink which is hot the last drop, rather than hot to start with then rapidly getting a lot cooler unless you down it quickly. The smooth curve inside makes them extremely easy to clean and, being glass, they don't stain the same way a china mug does. The fact they are still intact suggests they have a good degree of robustness, although probably wouldn't survive if smacked carelessly on the sink or dropped.I was curious to see if they 'worked' with cold drinks. Indeed they do - and no condensation to make your hands damp (and no rings on the table, either, so no need for a coaster).Brilliant. In fact I like them so much I will probably be buying other sizes - I am particularly taken with the very small, espresso size glasses, which I think will prove a good talking point as well as do their job as smart little coffee cups.

These glasses are fantastic for any sort of hot drink. Due to their design, the heat from the drink warms up the internal air within the structure of the glass which then further insulates the contained drink. I have noticed with tea's and coffee's that they stay noticeably warmer over a greater period of time. I cannot vouch for cooler drinks as I have not tried. They feature a small silicon seal at the bottom of the glass to regulate temperate between the inner air cavity and the outside air. Due to my dish washer being broken, I cannot vouch for their longevity with frequent washes within a dishwasher. However, hand washing they seem to last just fine. The silicone can become slightly dirty but can easily be cleaned up.A small price to pay. The glasses themselves are very easy to clean, arguably easier than some mug designs with awkward handles. When I opened them I was warned that due to production methods, not all may be of the same shape and size and as a result not hold the same quantity of liquid. From my set I can only say that if there are any differences that they are not noticeable and nobody would know from the 4 I received that they have the "duff" glass from the set.I bought a pack of 4 and all our other mugs are now 2nd rate in comparison. Holding myself back from buying more. A worthy purchase indeed.

I've been using Bodum Pavina glasses for about 5 years, and decided to get a few spares to supplement my current collection. Unfortunately the design seems to have changed adding a silicone valve at the base of the glass. I gather this is supposed to improve the operation of the glass, and may also help with stability, but I am concerned that it adds an unnecessary point of failure in the glass. While there is no sign of this so far, I do now worry that water will leak into the cavity between the layers of glass. That aside, these are still high-quality glasses which do noticeable improve heat retention compared to a normal glass, keeping hot drinks warm and cold drinks cool.As the top is open you obviously can't expect similar results to a Thermos flask, but it is an improvement over normal glasses. The glasses do seem somewhat fragile, but I have yet to break one and continue to handwash them (not wanting to risk them in the dishwasher in case of clouding or water getting between the glass layers). They also look particularly nice when there's an interestingly-coloured drink suspended in them. In spite of the potential problems with the new silicone base I will continue to buy these glasses.

I just bought a couple of the smallest Pavina glasses (2.5oz) to use with my espresso machine. They look the bizz. Really classy and fantastic to use with hot drinks as you can safely handle them with hot contents as there is no direct contact between the inner wall and the outer. They do seem very delicate, so gentle handling would be advisable. As others have said, the dimensions must be the boxed size. The actual physical size of the smallest glasses (2.5oz) are 2.5 inches or 64mm high. When using them with my espresso machine the height of them is pretty critical, so I can get them to fit underneath the brewhead on my machine. It is a bit of a squeeze, but they do fit.I even used them as a whisky glass this evening.Just dropped a small ice cube in and filled it with Jack Daniels. Not only did it look really great, but with the glass being double walled it is a great insulator Having used these small ones in differing situations and them doing so well, I may get some larger glasses for different uses.

I have bought these cups several months ago and I'm still more than pleased with them - they look great and they keep my drinks warm. The first time I saw them was while having dinner with a friend in a restaurant and a couple of days later I was already drinking coffee from them at home. Have I told you already that they look outstanding? The double wall does mislead you quite often - the drink is nearly always much hotter than you think it is (always a nice surprise) and the glass walls are always gently warm.I have used them in microwave and handwash them, and had no problems so far with micro-cracks or anything like that. So they definitely are not as fragile as some of the comments will make you believe - you just need to be careful, just as you would need to with any kind of glass dish. The only disadvantage I can think of is the size - I would love them to be a bit bigger, but I preferred the shape of these rather than the bigger ones.

These glasses are fantastic. They completely live up to their claims of keeping hot drinks warmer for longer, so the extent that I won't drink out of ordinary mugs any more - I find them to sour the drinking experience with their coldness.Contrary to what other reviewers have said, I find the hydrophobic air seals to work perfectly. I hand wash the glasses, and have never had any problems with condensation or similar.Nonetheless, these glasses do have their shortcomings. They are by nature more fragile than traditional mugs. Having bought a total of 6, I now have 4 left. One broke after I clumsily dropped it on a wooden floor -- which was fair enough. The other broke after my girlfriend launched a spoon into it from some height -- still pretty reasonable, but not something that would've happened with a traditional mug.Overall, I recommend these glasses. The slightly increased fragility is worth it for the far improved drinking experience.

I recently bought myself a Nespresso Latissimo whcih makes great milky coffees, and I really wanted to be able to see what was going on under the foam. So I searched for clear cappuccino cups in Amazon, and up popped these double walled glasses. I was dubious how robust they could be, but ordered them anyway. They look really cool, and it is strangely fascinating to be able to see the milk changing colour as the espresso gets added. The double wall means they are not hot to the touch, but the drink stays hot (or as hot as it ever gets from a Latissimo). They've been through my dishwasher several times and come out undamaged and with no water between the walls. So far, they are doing the job I wanted, really well.My only reservation is that, because they are light and a bit top heavy, they could get knocked over pretty easily. I've had a couple of near misses with cats tails, so I wouldn't recommend them for households with little hands around.

I've been using this pair of 8oz glasses for coffee for several months now. They are quite expensive but do keep hot drinks hotter for longer than ordinary glasses. They are made of double-walled glass, hand-blown it says on the label. They are very elegant and look good. They also appear quite fragile and so I take care when handling them and, although the leaflet says that they can be used in a dish-washer, I hand wash them. There is a small plastic valve on the base which allows air to escape during heating, etc., but keeps water from getting between the glass walls. Presumably if this valve fails the glass will no longer act as an insulator.I may get some smaller glasses for espresso coffee.I would recommend these glasses for anyone who wants to keep hot drinks hotter for longer and cold drinks colder for longer, and they look elegant on the counter or coffee table.

I have been a fan of the Bodum Pavina double walled thermo glasses for some time now. I have the smaller ones so when I saw these larger ones I simply could not resist. I use them when I make lattes with my Nespresso machine as the double wall keeps my coffee nice and warm, but you can use them with virtually anything.I find guests often are bemused by them and they are quite the talking point. A lot of reviews have pointed out they break if you drop them, well glass tends to do that doesn't it? If you are not careful with glasses or clumsy, you don't buy expensive glasses! I have only broken one out of many over the years and there have been quite a few occasions I have dropped them and theybounce perfectly fine without shattering. The Pavina is a design icon and simply classic I highly recommend them to any coffee lover.

I bought these glasses many months ago and used them daily. I loved the way the glasses kept the hot drinks hot and cold drinks cold. The design is beautiful and there is a kind of 'cool factor' with the way the liquids are suspended in the glass. However, even though I tried to be very careful, they both were broken in short time. I was careful not to bang the inside of the glass with a spoon. I carefully washed them by hand at first, but soon discovered they were sturdy enough for the dishwasher. The first one broke after a couple of months while I was putting dishes in the dishwasher. I hit it against another glass and it broke very easily. The second broke when I knocked it over on the counter. So,if you are not a clumsy person like me, you will enjoy these glasses greatly. I think I have to order some more now.

I have owned these for about 2 years now. I was a little cautious at first; other reviewers have commented on the durability of these glasses. Form won over function at first, however I still have both glasses in spite of continuous use.As espresso cups, these have to be well insulated, and they are. They're far more effective than my Pantone cups when pre-warmed with boiling water, keeping espresso piping hot for much longer than required!Durability wise, I'm careful but not massively so. They go in the dishwasher and they go on the Gaggia. They've been knocked around and are fine! Did I get "special" ones? Of course not. I have never noticed condensation between the glass layers..Do you think you can be careful with them?If so you have nothing to worry about. Click buy! They're fantastic.
