This 100 litre capacity Berghaus Expedition Mule bag is huge measuring 75cm long x 40cm tall and 40cm wide when full stuffed with clothes, shoes, boots and even a down sleeping bag. It really is the only bag needed for a longer trip. There is just one main compartment accessed via a rugged heavy-duty zip with 2 zip pulls along the full length of the bag and its U-shaped top flap which can be fully opened and flipped back giving easy access to the bag's contents. The U-shaped top flap is backed by light mesh creating a secure, zipped pocket perfectly suited to carrying travel documents or any other small items for which quick and easy access is needed. To the end of the bag is a large zipped gusseted pocket measuring 40x38x7cm which is ideal for small items such as compact cameras, tablet, foldable hat or packaway waterproofs and contents can be quickly retrieved.Strength and durability is essential for any travel bag which can be subject to rough treatment and bad weather and the Berghaus Mule excels. The main body of the bag and its pocket are made from a tough, highly durable rip-stop polyester fabric with a heavier-duty and even tougher polyester base. Straps are made from tough 2" webbing and the main carrying handles are fully-adjustable via sliding buckles to select the most comfortable length plus there's the additional benefit of a tough, padded grab-handle at both ends.Occasionally when traveling, eg when disembarking from a boat, both hands are needed for holding paperwork or a safety rail and this Mule can be hastily converted into a backpack with fully-adjustable, yet packaway, padded shoulder straps giving it ultimate versatility while a height-adjustable chest strap, more commonly found on high-end backpacks, provides support and comfort. The clips are a little fiddly to use because I have weak thumbs, but this is a very minor point. Compression straps to each side help to compress and stabilise the load ensuring a 100 litre load is as easy and comfortable as possible to carry although only for shorter periods as needed: this Mule will not replace a dedicated and more specialist specific backpack, probably with an internal frame to fully support a 100 litre load on a backpacking trip.Next comes the piece de resistance of this bag: when not in use, it folds away into its end pocket either for storage or for carrying on a trip when there's a chance additional luggage space might be needed.Having been used on two shorter trips so far, I can happily confirm that it is fully weatherproof having endured some heavy showers and prolonged heavy drizzle in Wales without any water penetration. This bag is Berghaus' high quality throughout, tough, durable, lightweight, weatherproof and highly practical. It is beyond criticism, has no negative points and is a bag I could not recommend more highly for anyone looking for a superior quality and versatile travel bag with the additional benefits of carrying as a backpack then folding away when not in use.

With the Berghaus brand there was never going to be any doubts about the strength and quality of this bag. For me they’re the default gold standard for outdoors kit, well made and extremely durable, and this bag certainly fits that description. This bag is designed to go wherever you want it to go. I got a “deep water blue” one and the shiny blue colour actually looks a little cheap and plasticky, surprisingly, but it turns out to be no reflection on the quality of the bag itself. This is not a bag packed with rucksack-style extra hidden pockets, adjustable compartments, and so on. With a couple of minor exceptions, this is really just one central area,in a tent-style expandable arrangement so the height of the bag varies depending on how much you’ve stuffed into it. As I said there are a couple of minor exceptions- a mesh compartment that forms part of the opening flap, a smaller compartment for maps etc. on the top side (the opposite side to the wheels), and a few fabric hooks on the outside that can be used for carabiners and tying other bits on- but mostly the designers have kept things very simple and to-the-point here. For suitcase-style use, the wheels at the bottom are excellent. They’re quite large, almost scooter-like wheels with good grip. The bag is nicely beefed-up in various ways, such as the thick rubber pads on the underside (which have the effect of making the bag look like it’s floating slightly off the floor except for the wheels), and notably the zip fastenings, which are very thick and reinforced. When I complain about other manufacturers skimping and providing fragile zips, this bag is a prime example of the kind of zips that durable bags should have.I do have some gripes, but they’re very minor. For example, when the bag is less than half full, the base at the bottom (wheel side) of the bag can end up being too narrow, so the bag isn’t always able to stand upright on its own, depending on what’s in it. A slightly larger rubber or plastic support on the wheel side would have sorted this out. When the handle is retracted into the bag, it clicks into place with a firm loud click and you can lift the whole heavy bag with confidence, and no fear that the handle is suddenly going to extend. One minor drawback with this is that the shape of the area around the handle makes it awkward to carry the bag by the unextended handle unless the bag is facing inwards, i.e. towards your legs. So when the bag is packed with a lot of volume, it ends up rubbing against your legs- or you have to carry it in a way that your hand ends up rubbing against the plastic. So it’s not a perfect bag, and it is very simple in some ways. But my issues with it are so minor, and the manufacturing quality so high, that I still think it warrants the full five stars.

There's no denying that this 100 litre bag from the reputable Berghaus is large.Very large, but also lightweight. The main pocket, has a very toughened durable zipper that could, doubtlessly mange the larger load it carries.Though I do have an issue with a claim on their product description and also on the accompanying paperwork:"There when you need it, gone when you don't. Packs away into a zipped pocket for lightweight compact storage".Though I don't see how this could possibly be the case, surely if it was, the bag would have been sent to me in a more compact manner. It has a solid base measuring 75x40cm with a solid depth of 18cm, which is not collapsible.I'd be hard pressed to find a zipped pocked to accommodate such a large bag. That said, this is a tough piece of kit in a slightly gaudy colour theme - marine blue with a very large mostly silver Berghaus logo. The very fact it's Berghaus makes it a resilient and durable kit in our experience of the brand. But to emblazon a giant logo onto the side of the bag, is a little overkill and it does make me feel like a walking advertisement for the brand. The central compartment pretty much encompasses the limitations of this bag. Aside form a few smaller areas. The wraparound zip opening has a mesh pocket on the cover of the bag internally.on the exterior, on the side with the pullout handle, there is a smaller, flat zip pocket to store valuables, maps, documents etc.The pullout handle is tough, it can withstand the rigours of pulling a large load. Though the bag does become a little floppy when its packed fully. It can also not stand up on itself as, though the wheels are brilliant 9cm in diameter, with thick rubber tyres which remind me of that of the children's scooters; but it lacks additional support on the opposing side of the wheels to keep it steadily upright when at full capacity.Because its such a hardwearing, resilient bag, we still love it for our outdoor lifestyle. But you would need to bear in mind that you really cants collapse it past the dimensions I gave above. That being said and because of this discrepancy, 4 stars.

These are excellent value for around £65. Personally I wouldn't pay much more. I have had an original 100l mule for well over a decade and it's still in use today albeit with a few holes. It's been around the world a few times and the handle and wheels are perfect still. They last. The reason I'm docking a star is because this bag unlike my older version, no longer has a side pocket, no longer has the ability to be carried as a backpack (with the clips to shorten the carry handles), it no longer has the deep full end opening zip compartment instead having just one small passport and phone size pocket on the handle top. They have also removed the 2 increadibly useful straps that use to go over the top of the zipped opening (which now opens to the side and not the width). These straps with clips were really useful when compressing the loads and for holding the bag's shape when fully loaded and for tucking the carry straps under. There still lacks side handles (really enjoying) and the bag still topples over when fully loaded and stood upright because there's no stiff plastic support built into the bottom end, probably because they want it to fold flatter for transport and storage. Still, this is also a basic oversight that has been a PITA since day one and I can't believe they haven't come up with a solution yet.All in all, it's a semi tough, (well) built to a budget, dependable travel bag. The blue looks good. It's shower resistant although won't be great in a downpour or persistent light rain if it's fully exposed. It's great for around £65 and you'll be dragging it around airports and hotels for a decade before you'll need to get another! If they did a slightly more 'upmarket' version, giving it back it's older features and more external pockets and a base that it can stand upright on with 25+kg of clothes and kit inside, I would be willing to pay more.

This is a great huge and heavy duty travelling bag. I got the deep blue version and really like that colour.I've included a number of photos which I hope you find helpful. It's no surprise that you can fit a lot into it, it is rated as a 100 Litre bag after all. It has one main compartment which has one zipped net pocket running the length of the main compartment flap closure. There is one more zipped area at the front of the bag.The zips are great all round, easy to grab being large and chunky and with that they are easy to use. This bag can be carried as a holdall via the Velcro closing carry handles or upright and wheeled. This is done by raising the internal pull handle via the handle button. There is only one lockable position for the handle when extended but as the wheels are positioned right in the corner I found it very comfortable to pull. The pull handle features a nice rubberised grip on the underside where your fingers will be which stop any slipping. Finally there are another two strap handles either end of the bag which are great for pulling the bag out if stored say in the undercarriage of a bus.The side of bag has a single strip of loops (similar to MOLLE or webbing) to add on things if needed and the bag's stitching is good all around and it should provide a fair deal of weatherproofing for whatever you are carrying. On the black underside of the bag are some thick rubber runners to lift the bag off the ground slightly and protect it when being stored. This black underside is also stiffened to prevent flex in this part of the bag. The top of the bag folds flat down onto the black base when empty but I can't see how it "packs away into a zipped pocket for lightweight storage" as the Amazon listing mentions - I think that is a mistake in the listing. With that said this is still a great versatile travel bag that should last well.

This is a considered purchase but it is good quality and you do get what you pay for. You can carry it with the handles like a sports bag and put it over your shoulder, these handles fasten together with a strap with Velcro; you can carry or drag it on its wheels with the handle at the top and there is a matching handle at the bottom so you could carry it with that one too, but they are probably of more use for getting them in and out of the car or off the bus or something like that; there is also the retractable handle that turns this bag into a rolling suitcase. I personally would always use it with the wheels as I do find it quite heavy even without anything inside it but a stronger, younger person wouldn't have any issues, I would have thought. It has a pocket on the outside that I would think would be ideal for shoes, particularly if you've been playing sports and they are dirty, it will keep them away from everything else. There is also a pocket on the inside where you can put toiletries to keep them safe; I thought towel at first but it is only kept separate from the main compartment by net so a wet towel would wet everything else inside the bag. The bag is very big and holds a lot of stuff, I think this would be more than big enough for a weekend away for the pair of us; we do tend to travel light so I think we could even make this do us a week. It is premium quality, it looks classy and very well made but I would expect nothing less for this price tag (£98.31 at the time of writing this review). The material is good quality, the zips run smoothly, the mechanism on the retractable handle works with no jerking and the clip thingies aren't cheap and flimsy. Not cheap in any sense of the word.

This Expedition Mule Wheeled 100 bag seriously lives up to its name, and outperforms in every attribute! It seriously it quite large, (100 litres) and can accommodate plenty of space for your camping/trekking gear, wether that be your tent, clothes, food, this bag has you covered. I will certainly be taking this with my on the plane when airports start openings up again. In a way, this bag is like a transformer, it can be carried like a duffle/sports bag or as a suitcase, providing versatility and comfort while using and carrying your gear in style. Speaking of style, I love the blue and black aesthetics of the bag, which works perfectly with the Large Berghaus logo, printed in a silver/white colour on the side of the bag.Another fellow reviewer cleverly pointed out that the bag isn’t collapsible yet is marketed to be able to be ‘packed away into a zipped pocket for lightweight travel’. I too, as a product designer, simply can see how this could be possible and I feel that this is false advertisement. Saying that, the bags when used like a suitcase, feature great car quality wheels which rolls easily and well, it almost seems too effortless :).Overall, I would give this a 4.5 star. It is definitely a high quality and stylish wheeled bag which I’m sure will facilitate any kind of adventure! Berghaus products in my experience always seem to be long lasting and durable, which is why I think (currently) £67.99 is well priced and well valued. Would recommend!Thank you for reading my honest review, I hope you found it helpful! :)

I got this product from Beghaus as they well known brand and I needed a large bag for my travels. The package came in a rather large box. It wasn't until I opened it that I realised what it was. Once opened and removed out of the plastic bag it came in, I could see how big this bag was and was very surprised in how lightweight it was.The build quality on this bag is really good, the stitching is immaculate and the zips are easy to grab and feels really sturdy. Also the wheels on this bag work really well. One thing I noticed in the description is it says this bag packs away into a zipped pocket for lightweight compact storage. This is not true, there is no way the reinforced base of the bag collapses. The features of this bag is it made from a hardwearing fabric and has an extendable handle, reinforced base and wheels. These allow you to easily transport the bag when full which makes life so much easier when travelling with a heavy bag.I unfortunately haven’t been able to go on any travels yet due to the pandemic however I have tested out filling it with clothes and equipment I would take and can safely safe there is plenty of space and it feels really secure to carry.Overall, this bag looks like it will last a long time. The wheels and extendable handle are built really well and do not look or feel cheap. I would highly recommend this product as Berghaus are a good, reputable brand that make high quality items that work well.

I ordered this bag as I had a similar carry bag although was too heavy when full. So I decided to get something with wheels. The packaging was as expected, very neat and professional from the high quality brand. The bag is not only durable and fit for many different travel uses-it is also very stylish. Heavy train journeys have been a breeze with this bag, being able to change from the carrier whilst lifting it up the stairs and onto the train. Then wheeling it round to and from literally anywhere else(Not lazy but I do pack heavy?).A massive bonus for me is that not only does it fit my travel needs but it also is stylish! It features the berghaus logo on a very attractive shade of blue. After trying out the product I have not went back to my old travel bag.The bag may be slightly more expensive then alternatives although the quality is reflected in the price.Although I haven’t used this for camping trips and withstanding long periods of time in different weather conditions. By the looks and feel of the material it seems that it would keep all belongings safe in a range of seasons❄️☔️!Overall, I would very much recommend this for anyone who likes camping trips, long journeys or even to go on the train and or plane, as it fits a lot of things in. For me pretty much all the clothes I own.

My partner is really pleased with this as it's a much needed and very stylish and solid upgrade to his battered old (non-Berghaus) one he's been lugging around for at least a year too long now. This is almost the same size, just very slightly bigger, but the design is very good with maximizing the space available by keeping it to one very large expandable compartment (which does have one separate zipped mesh section under the top) which sits on the very solid and sturdy resilient base and then there's just one simple reasonable size external pocket at the end. The base has very decent wheels on which make it super easy to cart about with the extendable but solid handle (certainly robust enough to manage rough terrain better than most)but it's also very comfortable to carry as a holdall or over the shoulder as the padded straps/handle sections are very comfortable. Obviously it's waterproof and feels pretty durable so ideal for more adventurous weekends/travel. It has a very simple but present style with the typical Berghaus quality. For the build, brand and size of the 'mule' I think it's actually not bad value either as will hopefully last a long old time and super pleased with it!

This is a really good and versatile piece of luggage – useable as a grab bag, or a wheeled suitcase (handy for me, even though the male members of my family have some very dark things to say about people who use wheeled luggage). The bag is very capacious and reasonably lightweight, as a consequence of the selections of fabric used. It’s a bit heavier than a regular bag thanks to the extending handle assembly, wheels, and plastic sled style runners on the underside that help to keep the fabric from scuffing - but not so much as to make it difficult to manage. The bag has longish webbing handles that can be stuck together with a Velcro tag to turn them into a single grab handle. In addition to the long handles and suitcase handle, there are smaller grab handles at the ends of the bag. The bag has two separate storage pockets – a large, main compartment, which fastens with a pair of zips (that can be locked together for security) and a smaller compartment at one end, as well as loops of webbing to allow items to be attached. The lightweight, waterproof canvas fabric allows this to fold down to a fairly compact, flat profile when not in use. The wheels are a good size and move well.

Berghous products never disappoints me. This bag has a Great size, durable, attractive too. I was pleasantly surprised by the size as I was worried the bag would be smaller but I can could almost fut half of my wardrobe in it (L76xW37xH37cm). The bag itself is very lightweight (3.34kg) but it can be very heavy if it’s fully loaded. The fabric is similar to the fabric of the Berghous jackets, it’s no Gore-Tex but seems waterproof and most importantly it’s seems strong. Featured with two carry handles on each side so if you feel strong enough to lift the bag then you can use this otherwise it can be pulled by the extendable handle just like a normal travel suitcase. There are two wheels fitted on the bottom of the bag,and thanks to these wheels it’s super smooth to pull the bag in any hard surface. The zip is also looking high quality but it made from plastic not from steel. My one is a Deep-water Blue coloured but also available in Black colour. I can Wait to use this bag next year hopefully. Would highly recommend for frequent travellers, especially if your destination is somewhere remote where it would be too hard to carry a standard travel suitcase with you.

I am so impressed with this bag, it is so well made and the materials used are of the highest quality, you can tell it's going to last years and years. The bag has a thick rubbery coating on the inside so it is really waterproof, with a wide overlap for the zip. It is really well designed, from the detachable backpack straps that securely clip and unclip, to the zippers that close together with a hole for a lock, or if you don't have a lock with you then tie the zippers together with the attached strings! Lots of hooking places and straps to secure anything you want. It even has a zippered net in the top flap, and the pouch that it folds into is also converted into an extra storage section that slots neatly into the end of the bag to hold it up and make it stronger. Now,I have had folding bags before and it is usually a complete nightmare to fold it back up again. The Berghaus was surprising pain-free, and I managed to push it all into the pouch in a few minutes, even though it wasn't as flat as when I first opened it! (See the photo of the bag which I folded in.) Excellent bag, and also the 100 litre model I have is HUGE and the size of a medium suitcase.

+ Very large+ “Weather proof” - I tested with a bit of water and it seemed fine though admittedly haven’t been out in hours of pouring rain.+ Looks smart+ Has small holes in the zipper for a mini padlock (would not fit a substantial one).+ All straps are adjustable+ Various reinforced comfortable fabric handles for carrying, one on each end, rucksack straps and 2 handles (long enough to also put across your body - although you’d probably hurt your back doing this for extended periods with it full).+ Feels durable, even though the material is quite thin and not at all padded.+ Handy to have rucksack straps to carry on your back (although probably not comfy for long distances).+ Packs up flat into a square format for ease of storage, with a fabric hook for hanging.- No reinforcement in the base of the bag means it’s quite floppy when not full up.- No smaller pockets inside, just the main bag section, large end section with zip and the whole of the lid has a large mesh zipped section.- Not the easiest thing to pack away but still takes under a couple of minutes so can’t really complain as it’s not something you’d be doing daily.

This bag is massive and it will be a perfect addition for travelling. Mostly as there will be no need for various smalls bags while going camping or weekend trip. As going off for a weekend with a family always takes so much place. So now it's possible to put everything in one bag., and save some space in a boot. The bag itself does not have a lot of compartments., in total its 3. The main big one, one small in a front and one a top all of them are with solid zippers which looks like they will last. Overall quality feels really good and solid so there is no fear of packing fully this bag. It is really light as well, empty it can be lifted with one finger without problems. The retractable handle retracts easily without effort and is solid without too much wobbling which gives a good feel of quality. Wheels slide through the surface without any problems as well. Would recommend to anyone who has a big family, or just takes a lot of stuff with them while travelling. As it is really light which is a big advantage i travelling with a plain. As well its made from good materials so it will last a long time.
