My Alesis M1 Active MK II monitors recently died so I bought some Adam Audio T7V's to replace them. Initially everything seemed fine but when I opened a game on my PC, I heard an awful buzzing/whirring sound through the monitors. Confused, I did some research and found that what I was hearing was probably a ground loop. All the more confusing was why this was never an issue with my old monitors.Regardless, I did some more digging and decided to give the Behringer Hum Destroyer a try. I had my doubts that a £17 box with no power would solve the issue but I remained positive. In anticipation of the delivery of the Hum Destroyer, I also purchased some balanced leads,as Behringer claimed the Hum Destroyer can convert unbalanced signals to balanced signals, and vice versa. On receipt of the Hum Destroyer I plugged everything in as follows:EMU 0404 PCI soundcard Outputs (Unbalanced) > Behringer Xenyx 802 Mixer Inputs (Bal or Unbal) > Behringer Xenyx 802 Mixer Main Output (Unbal) > Hum Destroyer Inputs (Unbal) > Hum Destroyer Outputs (Apparently now Balanced) > Adam Audio T7V Balanced Input. At first I was amazed that the Hum Destroyer actually worked! I then tidied all the wires up only to hear that dreaded buzzing sound again. After some head scratching I realised that moving the Hum Destroyer caused the Buzz to occasionally cease. After some further head scratching I realised that the input and output connectors of the Hum Destroyer are too close together for most cables, and the plugs of the cables were making contact, causing the ground loop to persist! I wrapped a loop of insulating tape around each plug where they were making contact and BOOM, HUM DESTROYED!I couldn't be happier as I was on the verge of returning my new monitors, at the cost of a 15% restocking fee plus postage costs. The audio from my monitors is now crystal clear with no hint of interference, even at loud volumes and while playing the most intensive games. There is no discernible loss in quality or volume. Now, I can't guarantee that my simple fix will solve your issue because ground loops are a complex enigma. For the specific situation I have described, the Hum Destroyer should work for you but many of these reviews are expecting a passive device to do something it was not designed to do.

FINALLY! After days of researching, pulling my computer to bits, switching plugs around and buying USB filters, I HAVE A SOLUTION!! I built a new PC with a high performance GTX 980 graphics card, and since day one I've had this static/hum/buzz sound coming from my PC USB ports to my audio interface (Steinberg UR824).On the desktop I could hear some static 'frying' sound, but in video games or anything demanding of the GPU, it turned into an aggressive buzz which was at least as loud as the actual music coming from my speakers, and changed volume and pitch depending on the content on screen. I was almost certain that this box wouldn't fix the problem completely, but it really does!I'm absolutely over the moon with this piece of hardware. It feels well built, it's very compact, and it's far more practical (and simple) than USB filtering, which wouldn't work for me as my hardware requires 'high speed USB 2.0'.However, I rated 4 stars because I also have the problem of one of the inputs not quite seating properly. Input 1 (for me at least) requires some twisting and pushing of the jack to produce sound from both speakers. Perhaps this is fixable, and honestly it's a small issue to deal with after all of the trouble I've had.The sound quality seems completely unaffected on my Yamaha HS80M monitors. No change in volume, clarity etc. Thank you Behringer!

Bought one of these about a year ago when I was suffering from noise and hum problems in my iMac/USB audio setup. There was a ground loop from my USB audio equipment, and some noise/interference from power-supplies, driving me mad after shelling out some serious dough on audio gear and a new mac. I was at a loss as to how to fix it, until I discovered this neat little gadget.I have to admit I was skeptical when I ordered it... but...I plugged it in, and.... nothing. :) No noise. No hum. This no-nonsense little grey box *completely* eliminated my hum problems, and the background noise level from my Synth equipment dropped so low it only shows up if I push my input amp way beyond normal recording levels, whereas before I had to use a gate filter to eliminate the noise from some recordings.Regarding quality of the box -- it's a simple folded sheet-metal box, screwed together. It looks pretty robust, and the sockets are perfectly fine. No unnecessary lights, switches, or extra power supplies -- it just sits there silently doing its job.Marvellous! My only complaint is that the price of these things seems to have risen substantially over the last couple of years... but if you've got problems like I had you probably won't mind shelling out a few tenners to fix hum problems in much more expensive audio/computer gear!

This box is a fantastic problem solver for ground loop problems, and resolved a high frequency hiss in my home recording setup. My recording setup is as follows; mic/line>behringer mixer>audio interface (USB)>PC.I use the SUB-outs from the mixer for recording (into the audio interface>PC) and the MAIN out(s) for monitoring. To do this I loop the mix from the audio interface LINE OUT back into the mixer. However, this creates a nice ground loop, which manifested itself as high frequency hiss/computer whine. After a few days scratching my head over the problem, I stumbled across the Hum Destroyer. I connected it between the interface LINE OUT and the respective mixer channels and... voila.Hum Destroyed.Couldnt be happier for £18. These problems can easily fuel headaches, and in my case a mild sense of madness so I'm chuffed that this solved it!I'm led to understand that this is probably just qty 2, 1:1 audio xformers in a box so I was tempted to make one, but for this price you may as well buy it and save the time.Purchased mine direct from Amazon (not a seller) for £17.77. Bargain. Shipping was free, fast and could be tracked.

Used to cure a ground loop noise problem I had with my PC.My setup was originally as follows PC -> Mixer -> Yamaha HS5 active monitors. The ground loop noise wasn't audible when I used standard passive PC speakers but became intolerable once I upgraded to active studio monitors. The noise sounded like static interference which seemed to respond to any kind of FLASH moving imagery on web pages. At first I used a 3.5mm noise filter (about £6 on Amazon) which did the trick quite well (not as well as this Behringer mind!) but as soon as I plugged in to the PC using another source, such as the USB for my line 6 pod, or DAW, the noise was back!I tried using a USB hub as recommended on one of the forums but this didn't work.Next a USB isolator - still didn't work. Luckily I stumbled upon this Behringer product. I use it at the end of my input signal,I.e PC/DAW/Line 6 Pod -> mixer -> Behringer -> speakers...and it does the job perfectly!I honestly couldn't recommend this product enough. Well built, metal chassis, compact and well presented that kills ground loop noises with ease.

Having awful ground loop buzz from electric guitar. Guitar dismantled and tested with multimeter and all fine. Boss ME80 multi fx pedal, 2 separate practice amps all buzzing. think house wiring is at fault or electromagnetic interference high in the room/house so going mad trying to sort it. There is a clear reduction in the hum when I run the signal through this hum destroyer. It's not perfect, it's still audibly there (will only go completely if I touch a light switch or something metal on the guitar so I am grounding the electricity causing the buzz) but with this unit I can play electric guitar a bit more audibly so still giving 4 stars.I think the device is better suited to sound card outputs to monitor speakers but it does help a little, especially since it's apretty low cost unit. One of the questions is quite interesting suggesting that older style more expensive transformer based devices might be better, may try that next.

I had a ground loop problem between a Naim Supernait 2 and a Pioneer AV unit (from pre-outs) when using the unity gain / AV bypass function on the Naim, with both amps connected via an RCA lead. I was getting a loud hum from the speakers when the Supernait had the AV input selected and when the AV unit was switched on, I was getting buzzing and interference too.The Behringer MicroHD Hum Destroyer cut out all the humming and buzzing and provided excellent sound quality as it uses transformers and not filters to remove the hum. There is now only a very quiet hum when AV input is selected, but this is comparable to the hum when other inputs are selected.Make sure though that the lead you use from the Hum Destroyer to the target amp is sheilded /a good quality RCA lead. I initially used a cheap £2 RCA/6.5mm plug lead which introduced a new hum.

Brilliant! Prior to installing this in my home recording setup the studio monitors were picking up all kinds of awful noises from my computer (what essentially boiled down to a ground loop effect that refused to be resolved by the normal means, and my setup having a number of unavoidably unbalanced cables). Installing this got rid of those unwanted noises instantly with no discernible effect on the overall sound. It really does just work and I have nothing but praise for it.A small caveat though: A number of the negative reviews appear to be from people misusing it for a purpose for which it simply was not designed; it will not cancel out pickup hum if put between your guitar and amp! That's an entirely different problem to the one this was designed to counter so be sure this is the right tool for the job before you knock it.

Tried a number of USB isolators to get rid of computer interference going through to my USB audio interface (Focusrite Scarlett 2i2) even though I was using balanced cables. Had no luck so tried this instead and it works! The only complaint I have is there's no rubber feet on the bottom so I've had to hide it away so it doesn't scratch the heck out of my desk/interface.It should also be mentioned that I had a similar problem a few years ago with computer noise coming over firewire to a Saffire Pro 14. I tried this exact same product in that situation and it didn't do anything. That problem was fixed by using balanced (TRS) cables from the interface to my speakers.

I have a small home recording studio and put up with hum for over a year, fiddling about with cables and trying to keep mains and sound leads apart, all to no avail.I could have spent a great deal of money on a hum destroyer, some of them cost hundreds of pounds but chose this one because at the price I had nothing to lose. It worked and did exactly what it says on the tin. Don't bother paying vast sums of cash on these relatively simple gadgets. This is all you will ever need. Two inputs/outputs so can be used with two mono sources or one stereo source.MS

Was plagued with horrible AC sound from my computer to my active studio monitors, I even switched outlets that were definitely grounded, no dice. Tried loads of different solutions until I found a youtube video about the issue where he recommended this product. Just connected it and the sound is completely pure with no noise whatsoever, couldn't have been happier with the results! If you have a ground loop and can't fix it, this is a really reliable and easy fix, just make sure you have enough cables.

These are brilliant and i have loads of them. No signal loss and will tame a high output from a synth to a more mixer friendly line level. Totally does the requirement of mains noise removal. Easily the best value as some DIs are quite expensive. This also converts TRS to TS in either direction. If yu are serious about kits it might be more cost effective to go for the rack equivalent that Behringer make as these have more channels and makes it neater.

I bought this little box on the off chance it would remove the annoying hum that my bass amp head gives off when connected to anything via the line out. Does it work? Oh yes. Better than expected. I've a few Behringer products now, and with the exception of the line out on my bass head, they're all of a good quality. This box does exactly what it says on the tin. Well recommended for anyone experiencing hum and other unwanted noises!

Noticed electronic type buzzing in my home studio after installing a new gtx970 gfx card. Really bad on some occasions with certain games (Shadows of Mordor being the worst by far). Found this little gem, took a punt and zero noise at all now. Just plugged it in between my Yamaha HS8 monitors and the my external firewire (t.c electronics- desktop konnekt) audio interface and buzz/hum completely gone. Awesome.

I'm using this to remove a ground loop from my desktop's motherboard's audio output to a pair of krk rokit 5 monitors, initially I was concerned that it wouldn't do the trick, but it works perfectly, completely eliminating all interferance I was having. Another plus side is it's very compact, robust and unobnoxious in design. Highly reccomend if you are having ground loop issues from a computer to monitors.
