I really don't get it, its just some mesh that you throw onto the wheels that drive your car and it is a miracle..it works! Now though it may work to get you out of a sticky situation, let me tell you where it doesn't work...Trying to go up/down a steep incline/hill. If you have an incline where you know you most likely would not go up in a 4x4 car when its snowing, (with those yellow signs that have the truck going down a hill with a 6% or 10% on it, I wouldn't recommend using these socks for your RWD or FWD car, it just wont work. I tested it to see if it was possible, and it just wasn't. Going down was so scary because the car would still slip and trying to go up just starting ripping/tearingthe socks and the car would just go further down.Where it will work is when the entire road is filled with snow and there are no patches of dry pavement and it is pretty level. Now it would really be a pain to take these on and off every time you get to a dry pavement area and a snow covered area, so I did drive the car on areas that did not have snow. You don't want to go more than 25mph realistically because the balance of the socks on your tires will go off balance and come off, regardless of snow or no snow!!If you get more than 3 weeks of snow a year, I would just recommend getting snow tires (because that is what I had to do in the Mid West.) It will save you the hastle and you will feel safer driving long distances. The idea of these socks are very good, they do work well when there is snow on the ground all the time. But when you run into a highway that has been cleared and salted, you can't use these at all. I'm still giving it 4 stars because the idea is great, and its only meant to get you out of that sticky situation rather than it being used all the time, which is what I tried to do and destroyed them. People will give you stares and ask you questions about it as well.

I bought these for our 2004 Toyota Sienna minivan because it is not very good in the snow. We live in the DC area so snow is not a major issue most years. But I wanted to get something that we could keep in the car in the event we ever got stuck out in a snow storm. Was originally going to get a set of chains but they looked like they would be hard for my wife to put on the wheels by herself. I was certainly skeptical about autosocks but after reading the positive reviews I decided to give them a shot. And boy am I glad I did! It turns out one Saturday in February I was out with my son about eight miles from home and a snow storm came in about an hour earlier than expected.By the time we got on the road to return home the roads were already covered, and my minivan was slipping all over the place. I was worried we may not be able to make it home. Then I remembered the autosocks in the trunk and decided to pull over and give them a shot. Though it was my first time putting them on, I got them on in only about 5 minutes while my young son sat in the warm van with a look of "my dad is an idiot" on his face. Well after driving for about 2 miles I found that I was no longer nervous about being out driving around town. And I live in a very hilly area and also found that I no longer had concerns about which route to take home to avoid the hills - I knew I'd be able to get home no matter which route I took. Just took the regular route and had no problem climbing the hills. When we got home I even made my wife hop in and drive around the neighborhood a bit just to see how awesome these auotsocks are, and she was as impressed as I was. I love these things and will always keep them in the trunk from now on. They come in a nice small and lightweight storage bag and so are easy to store in the car. Definitely a good purchase in my opinion - a nice insurance policy for around $70.

I haven't had to use this very much. I live in Texas but made a trip to Colorado over Christmas this past year. I had recently bought a brand new car so I needed to find chains to keep in the car to meet the state law. I have used traditional chains before and they are a pain in the rump, so I thought I might really like these instead. While in Colorado, a massive storm hit the day of Christmas and continued throughout the next 3 days (I had to leave the 26th, so I was driving straight through it). I decided to do a practice-run with these to make sure I could get them on while in the driveway at my parent's house. These are designed for the small wheel well vehicles, which I didn't think the Ford Fusion to be,but I quickly learned that my car actually does have a pretty tight wheel well. My arms were pretty muddy and it took some pretty serious maneuvering to get it on, but I took a quick lap around the snow-packed streets and felt that the traction was incredible.Living in TX, I am glad I can just keep these in the car without the bulk of traditional chains.

I own a cabin in the Sierras, but drive a Ford Fusion Energi on which chains cannot be installed due to low wheel well clearance. Unfortunately, I occasionally get snowed in (or snowed out) in driving between San Francisco and my cabin as it is located at 4,000 feet, right above the snow line. I only need chains for about five miles of my drive, and AutoSock fits my needs perfectly. They slip on and off in minutes, and provide very good traction. I can't say how long they will last, but am ordering another pair for whenever it is that my first pair give up the ghost. Very happy with my purchase.

After attempting to drive up a snow and ice packed driveway with just snow tires I thought I would need to park my car in the garage for the rest of the season. Before adding the Auto Sock I was able to travel 5 meters of my 650 meter long driveway before coming to a stop. I have a Mercedes E 350 with rear wheel drive and traction control shut everything down. After adding the Auto Sock to my rear wheels I just kept climbing. I never slipped once and felt the transmission shift into higher gears as my speed increased.I am very impressed with the easy of use and the benefits it provided me.

I purchased these at the beginning of the season knowing that I wasn't going to have studded snow tires on my car this year.I had the chance to use them with our last snow storm. We got around 12" of snow. I was trying to pull out and got stuck in front of our house. A neighbor came over and my car wasn't budging with the push assist. We put the auto socks on and I got right out!I had to use them that evening again as I got stuck in the same spot again. They work great!

I have not used these yet. My new AWD auto will not accept any other tire traction devices (not enough clearance between tire and fender), and the car manufacturer recommends Auto Sock. Research shows these are DOT approved / accepted in every US state. Many western states require that traction devices be carried in the vehicle during snowy conditions, and I carry these to be in compliance. Don't know that I will ever use them!

These are amazing. I live up an extremely steep (14% grade at worst I believe) gravel driveway and need chains for my F-150 most years in winter. I got these for my wife and daughter's Subaru Foresters. They can put them on easily and made it up the driveway every time this year in WV.

Just had a 8-12" snowfall in Longmont, CO. Put the AutoSocks on before I pulled out of the garage. They worked great! I had no trouble taking the dog to his grooming appointment. I even had to pull through some drifts 12+". Very satisfied. Great product.

They definitely made a vast improvement to my traction on my front wheel drive car, I was barely able to get going with out them.FYI do not use them if you can see the road through the snow pack, because the asphalt will rapidly wear them out

1.11.2019

Since I haven't actually used them yet, I can't comment on the installation and durability. My son did use a set last winter and said they worked very well in the snow but did suffer some damage when the road became partly clear.

12.2.2017

I was skeptical at first, but they actually work. Great for icy conditions, even better than chains. They go on and of just as easily as they claim. Only downside is deep snow. Just not effective after 4 inches of accumulation.

6.3.2021

I bought these in 2021, however I have used the same model (maybe not same size) in my RX8 back in 2004+. The performance is amazing and the handles to the sides make it easy to handle the "socks". I would certainly recommend.

20.1.2018

They do actually self centre! I got stuck going up a hill with snow tyres on, put these on in less than 5 mins and pulled away. Excellent. Easy to use and make a real difference.

21.12.2016

Inexpensive, we easy to use alternative to chains or getting that extra traction. Regained my confidence for getting around in Colorado snow. So easy to put on!
