Finally I get to write a review for these chains because we had snow. This year in the north east of Scotland we have only 1 day of snow which is really disappointing. I have been using chains for around 10 years (last year I lost count how many times I use my old ones due to a very bad winter and the Beast from the East) now I would not be with out them. These are cheaper by far than buying snow tires. I drive a Bipper van and I can easily put these chains on in under a minute for each wheel depending on snow depth. They can be a bit fiddly if the is a bit of snow round the wheel to get the main cable round. The fitting instructions are very easy to understand.I would say practice a good few times putting them on and off. I use them mainly to drive up to where I walk my dog. It is 4 miles up hill with some very nasty right hand bends where with out chains I would have no hope. They also work with ice especially that horrible thick black ice. My chains usually last me 2 to 3 years so buying a real expensive pair is just not worth. Once you have put them on drive about 2 meters forward and re tighten them as they will be a touch loser than you put them on. I chug along at between 20 to 25 miles an hour. Just taking my time. Even with ABS I would always say use your gears and gently pumping the break as you can lock your wheels and you will continue to slide. Over all they do the job, get me to where I need to go and I feel safe in the fact that I have them.

The chains were bought to have in the car in case of emergency so when I became stuck on a hill in the snow a couple of weeks later I was very pleased to have them with me. With the instructions to hand they fitted relatively easily - next time will be easier - and the car made it to the top without difficulty . A word of caution here; DO follow the instructions when taking them off. I didn't and managed to entangle the chains with a mounting for a cable running to the wheel hub - part of the ABS I think - and that took some time to disentangle. It is straightforward if you follow the instructions.Second word of caution; somewhere in the small print with the instructions it advises that you dry the chains after use.If you don't, they rust, and although they are kept in a handy, if rather fragile, plastic case, the rusty water can drain slowly out and stain whatever is beneath them in the boot.As an all-season camper I will take them with me to give traction up steep, wet grassy slopes. They'd probably help in mud too, but I'd want someone else to put them on !!!Overall they represent excellent value for money and will certainly serve well for occasional use; they give me much more confidence when driving in challenging conditions. For frequent use I would spend a bit more and buy heavier gauge, more rust resistant chains.

I bought these snow chains last Saturday. The previous day I had travelled to work in appalling snow conditions. Having recently purchased my first rear wheel drive BMW Series 1, I quickly discovered how bad the car handled in the snow - frightening. So, I ordered these on Saturday at 6.00pm, paid extra for next day delivery. They arrived at 2.00pm the next day - brilliant service. I fitted the chains straight away, just to see how hard or easy they were to fit. It's fair to say that they are fiddly things to fit, but a bit of practise does the trick. This morning, I awoke to an overnight snow fall of approximately 3inches. I fitted them in cold, dark and wet conditions at 6.30am (took about 15mins)- not a good start. But when I set off on my 12 mile journey to work I quickly discovered what a bargain these chains were. The extra traction and grip was fantastic. After 3 miles I decided to take a route to work via quiet country lanes and had no problems. At one stage I encountered fours cars stuck on a hill and I smuggly passed them with ease. I'd recommend anyone who has a car that does not perform well in snow and ice to have a set in the car. Make sure that you keep a torch, gloves and a small mat to kneel on when fitting. I love these chains!!!!!

Can’t fault these - used them for the first time on a tricky descent in very heavy snow from La Plagne. Having watched a few videos and read the specific instructions, we had them on pretty quickly, adjusted slightly after the first few minutes but really they hadn’t moved much. The car would still be there if we hadn’t had chains. The quality seemed good, they were East enough to get off too. Only problem was first we were sent the wrong size, good job we checked and had time to get the right ones before setting off. We have snow socks also and saw other people managing with those in the same conditions but I would go for the chains in the steep conditions of the alps.

Fantastic product!! Best £26 i think i ever spent! We would Not have got down from the alps without these this year!!They were relatively straight forward to put, although we did have to turn the steering to make easier as our car is quite low. Did the same to remove and had no dramas.Make sure you re-tighten the chains after the car has rolled forward a bit! You'll be suprised how much tighter you can get them and it then makes it a more comfortable ride.As said above... brilliant product and a must if your going to the Alps!!!

Great for the price. Actually used in anger in 40 cm of snow. Chains fitted easily (if you are used to chains or follow instructions) and no problems pulling away on icy base layer and a lot of snow on top. No slip on a steep gradient road and when I stopped to tighten they had little to no give so had fitted well first time. Recommend to practice in dry first, have a pair of warm work gloves and look after the mending kit (I lost min in a pile of snow and cant seem to get a replacement)

Managed to get these on in torrential snow to 245/40/18 low profile tyres (by turning the wheels out). Got me out of trouble, worked great. I didn’t drive far Or fast but there seemed to be no issues with clearance / snagging. As with all snow chains, when you get the hang of it, it’s easy.Worth bringing your own gloves, the ones provided are just a gesture. If you’re new to snow chains (on sports car tyres), remember to tighten again after driving a short way to get rid of any slack.

Easy to fit, but I recommend fitting at least once for practice just so you don’t get caught out. Used on a Citroen dispatch space tourer in the alps when snow caught us out, did the job perfectly. Can’t comment on durability yet as only used once but seem to have held up perfectly so far.

Have yet to try these in anger and hope I don't have to, but did a quick fit to make sure I could remember how they went on and the only thing I can fault isn't with the chains - it is with the lack of room in the wheel arch with 18 inch alloys on the car!

These chains are quite easy to fit and adjust. Materials of construction look fine so I expect a good life out of them.Fortunately they fit both my BMW Z3 and my wife's Citroen Berlingo even though they have different tyre sizes, so giving extra value.

27.12.2018

These are fine if you order the right size unlike us and had to return them. Only down side is to fit them you will have to lay on the ground at some point. In the snow that’s not going to be pleasant.

20.4.2020

Arrived quickly, seem ok, took to France and back but fortunately didn't need them. Spent an hour on the drive learning how to put them in, as I would hate to have done it in the dark and in the snow.

Needed not in the Alps but at midnight in a tiny village in champagne. Worked and got us to our hotel. Quite easy to install but do suggest you watch the video and have some gloves before you try it!

I live in a remote access area in Wales and have found these to be an invaluable addition to my car winter box, enabling me to be able to get home rather than leave my car half a mile away from it

They look to be of a good quality and will fit several different sized tyres. So might still be useable if I change cars later on. Very handy storage case to keep them tidy.
