I did find the instruction booklet could be a bit more comprehensive, and straight forward but it was adequate in the end . My PC wouldn’t load the drivers so I loaded the software then went back into settings on my PC to load the required video/audio drivers from the supplied mini disc which loaded without problem. I found that the setting in “burn a DVD” to fit to disc did manage to fit almost 3 hours and 8.9Gb onto a 4.7GB disc, probably by reducing the quality, so I copied the tape again in 80minute segments (4.3gb )in the case of a 4 hour tape, and 60 minutes (3.7gb) for a 3 hour tape at the High Quality burning option. I did need to phone the helpline and was surprised to find it excellent. The chap I spoke to was very helpful, and suggested I instal VLC media player so that I could watch the recorded video sections saved to a file on my PC. I found that using Windows Media player would play audio but not images.Once I’d sorted out how to use this program it has proved to be excellent and very easy to use. Don’t give up if you experience a problem, a little perseverance and maybe a call to the help line will have you up and running in no time. One thing I did find was how slow the process is but only to be expected as it copies in real time and the DVD burning is very slow, but that bit could be down to my PCs only having a Celeron processor and perhaps the performance of the installed DVD drive

The jury is out on this product. My object was to transfer old VHS footage of my family onto my pc, and it has performed that function well, so they are safely on my pc now. However the software seemed to have a mind of it's own, after putting my pc to sleep overnight, when I resumed next day it said there was no video input detected. I had to close the programme, safely remove the USB, then re insert it starting the software again and this time it recognised my input and I was able to transfer some more VHS. A little inconvenient having to do this every time. Now it comes with capture and edit software, which I'm afraid I can't fathom out yet. If I can figure it out, add titles crop and edit footage, add effects, I will add further comments at another time. If like me your old VHS player only has scart lead connections at the back, then this product will transfer your video footage via the included adaptor.REVISED MY REVIEW TO 5 STARS (13/02/18) In less than a week, by trial and error I've added scenes fading in and out where I had deleted sections, also I've been able to add captions which by default appear for approx 4 seconds, enough for my purposes, I've added audio tracks and deleted unwanted footage. This is far better than I had imagined.

The VGB100 video capture device is one of the best low cost ways of retrieving old home movies from out-dated video formats. I had about 20 Mini DV and 1 VHS tape containing priceless early videos of the grand kids This capture device was the cheapest way to turn all these memoryies into universally played .wmv files on my PC.. I can now also create edited down DVDs etc. to dish out to family and have uploaded the files to cloud storage so they are now safe and accessible to the entire family. The bundled software is good and easy to use. Value wise, I think this solution is fantastic.Minor niggles. The USB plug would be better on a flying lead as the weight of the whole thing inc wires plugs etc tends to pull the unit downwards when plugged in to a horizontal USB socket.I felt the need to 'prop it up' to support the pull on the plug. A lead would negate this. Also, sometimes during multiple captures, (in my case using Serif Movie Plus) the settings defaulted to just saving the audio only. This resulted in my having to re-do about 5 tapes until I started setting the setting tick boxes for each capture. Then all was well.Overall: Great value and did exactly what it should.

I think the August VGB100 is a great device and represents fantastic value for money. I was delighted with the ArcSoft ShowBiz software that came with the device on mini CD. The help available on the web for ArcSoft ShowBiz 3.5 the version I have is not good but the help file that comes with the software is all I needed really. It did take me a few hours of study before I could use all the editing capability of the software but I was able to capture the video from a VHS tape played on a VCR very fast. I was lucky to have had a SCART to three phono lead to connect the SCART output on the VCR to the VGB100. I also discovered that to see the ArcSoft GUI properly I had to set my monitor to the highest resolution.Do this by going to Control Panel>System>Settings.I recommend this great video capture device. I had a little hiccup when my Windows XP became unstable during the first transfer. Windows XP signaled the device was not recognized. There was no problem though with the VGB100 at all and after I switched off the PC a few times that problem resolved itself whatever it was.

I bought this so I could transfer home video footage from a camcorder, and footage from a hard-disc-recorder (which records from the TV) onto my PC. First you have to install the software (easy) and the device driver (problems!) onto your PC. When I was unable to do the latter, I phoned the number on the box, and straight away got through to someone who talked me through the setup - very useful thanks! (I was using Windows 10, still fairly new in August 2015).Some advice that you may find useful - the device captures footage as an mpeg 2 file - but WMV player doesn't like this format. If you want to play it back on your PC or TV, you then I needed to "produce" the footage as an mpeg1 file (I discovered this after trying different formats). The device does this very easily, the quality is great, and the Arcsoft software enables me to cut the footage, insert fancy wipes etc so I had no need to use Microsoft Moviemaker like I'd originally intended to after all. Love it!

Quick and easy way to convert your old analogue VHS and Hi-8 tapes onto your laptop. You'll need to buy the right leads to connect this device to your video machine - usually a Scart-phono plugs lead will do the trick (but use the S-video connection for Hi-8). Works perfectly on my Windows 8.1 64-bit PC.I marked it down a star because it doesn't appear as a standard video source in Windows - you have to install the (supplied) ArcSoft software - don't lose the licence key ID. You can download this if your laptop doesn't have a CD drive. But it seems a bit old-school fiddling about with licence keys, and the ArcSoft software manages to be too complicated for a complete novice, yet too limited for an advanced user - for example there's no way to change the capture bitrate (which is a very high 7 megabits per sec, so creates some file sizes far too big for grainy old VHS) or audio tracks/levels. But perhaps at this low price you can't complain too much.

Initially had picture and no sound. Rang the Tech Support line and they were excellent and sorted my problem.I did not use the supplied disc but downloaded the latest software and drivers from the August website. The YouTube VGB100 Installation Tutorial tells you exactly what to do and the settings required. My pc is running windows 10. I used a Super VHS player and transferred a S-VHS C tape of my daughter filmed 24 years ago. I used the following connections from the Super VHS player: S video out for the video and the red and white analogue outputs for the sound. I played the converted output on my pc monitor and have no complaints considering the technology at the time.I then copied the file to a memory stick and played it through a £4k TV. I highly recommend doing this as the picture was improved over the pc monitor to my eyes. Hope this helps.

I bought this from daffodil thru amazon, and also a second-hand MINI DV camera from eBay. My original camera broke and I needed to transfer lots of family footage back onto computer. This USB adaptor device worked a treat and saved me the trouble of having to put a FireWire card on my PC. I just followed the instructions on a YouTube video as to how to install and operate the software and didn't encounter any problems. However, there was a Dropout on the audio when I finally connected my camera up to the device and started to stream it onto the PC. I contacted daffodil support and they were quick to respond. However it was academic as the next time I tried to do a transfer the audio Dropout had disappeared without me having to do anything.Go figure. So far so good. This simple adaptor has done the job for me and I would recommend it.

Does exactly what it says on the box. Once installed and running, I simply connected in the phono plugs from my old VCR, played the old tapes, and voila - good quality new digital recordings of my old VHS material! The user interface seems to work just fine with all defaults left as they are. The "capture" tab has simple start/stop function and the file is automatically saved at the end. You don't need to re-process and export the file afterwards if you're happy with the original file just as it is captured. Only thing I would say is the installation of the software takes a bit of perseverence - I had to repeat it three times to get it all copied in. But once in, it works just fine. For this money its a must have that you can't really fault.

I had been putting off transferring my VHS tapes to PC for a long time. Recently I enquired with a local business as to the cost and was quoted £20 for one tape then £15 for each subsequent tape. As I have over 40 tapes this equates to over £600! I read the reviews for this product and thought for the sake of £20 I would give it a go. I loaded the software disc onto the lap top without any problem and I am currently onto my 7th VHS tape without any problem. Most of the tapes are family memories going back over 25 years so it was important to keep them in a newer format. Next I will be purchasing an external hoard drive to back up these recordings.I was apprehensive about doing it myself but I am glad I came across this product.

Excellent product for the price. In the beginnig you might struggle a little bit with software set up, the suggestion is to download the software and the driver from its main website: install the software first, install the driver without plug the device, reboot your pc then run the capture software and plug the device. If the driver is installed and recognised properly it will give you almost the same quality of your VHS, it depends how good the cassette still is. I am using Windows 8.1 and I managed to record about 40 hours so far. I am very satisfied, I finally saved most of my valuable family's tapes.P.S.if your cassette is defective you will most probabily see the defect amplified from the signal captured.

Great product - purchased to transfer 80s/90s VHS camcorder footage. Does the job perfectly - even comes with a scart adapter and 3 RCA cable. The Arcsoft ShowBiz software which is packaged does the job well - simple, but perfect for the job. Only slight downside is that it appears to capture video using CBR not VBR (constant bit rate) - not investigated fully though. Happy enough with out of box settings. Pros and cons for this I guess. Captured video is of the same quality as the source material.Note that although the software and drivers come on CD, these are easily downloadable from the August website - just use the key on the back of the CD envelope. Highly recommended and very happy.

It is a good device for video capture with backward compatible devices. My old Sony camcorder didn't have a cable that was compatible with connectors on my laptop. This device does the trick. The software is easy enough to use but after using it twice the on-screen capture view went black. It still does the video capture now but you can't see what you are capturing. Without screen capture feedback you can't stop and restart for different recordings and I needed a video editor to cut apart the different recordings. There wasn't any support for this device as it was old technology. They have newer much more expensive devices that have support. Easy to install, easy to use, did the job .

my capture card came without the cd and consequently the product key for the software, contacted tech support and they e-mailed a new product key. The software does the job ok, did not do any editing with it just straight copying to disc, if you have a lot of footage on one tape like I did, the software automatically splits the files so they will fit on more than one normal 4.7 Gb Dvd-r. The only problem I found with the capture card was that when i wanted to start to copy another video tape as i had several to do, once you close the software down or restart the PC, I had to unplug the capture card then plug it back in to the USB port before the software would recognize my camcorder.

When we first tried to set this up on my laptop we couldn’t get it to work at all but within 24 hours I received an e-mail from the company which included invaluable information where to find a relevant YouTube video which would explain what to do. I followed the link and in a short time I had downloaded all the relevant information and away I went. I have since downloaded all my old 8mm video camera tapes and my discs from my other video camera to my laptop and I couldn’t be happier. I even managed to download some old vhs tapes too. I would wholeheartedly recommend this product and this company as their after sales service was brilliant. Thank you Danny, whoever you are!
