Art of Murder ; Cards of DestinyThis is the third game in the "Art of Murder" series. All the games feature, as your on-screen avatar, Nicole Bonnet, an FBI agent investigating murders committed by serial killers. In this particular game the killer leaves a playing card as his(or her) signature. The game performed well on my system, with no glitches except occasionally a voice went missing partway through a sentence. I usually have subtitles switched on so that was no big deal. There are an unlimited number of save slots. The game requires the DVD in the drive while playing.Graphics are very well done. The locations are varied and include amongst others New York (a theatre and amusement park,FBI centre), Louisiana (everglades), Maine (lighthouse).Puzzles are equally varied and mainly inventory based. Emphasis is on practical objects (e.g. repairing a ghost train car). There is a button with a question mark at the lower right of the inventory screen which shows all hotspots on screen. This is invaluable in finding the objects to manipulate. There are a number of action puzzles (defusing a bomb, crossing a waterway by jumping from pile to pile). During these puzzles you can (and will frequently!) die. The game autosaves immediately before these sequences. There are a number of puzzle sequences surrounding analysis of evidence. One hint I will pass on. When assembling the seed under the microscope note that double left clicking turns over the fragment selected. I had to find a walkthrough to gather that information. The story captures interest right from the start and maintains that interest throughout. Sounds are well done, music is unobtrusive. Dialogue is occasionally stilted but the plot carries the day. There are a couple of twists in the tale that add to the overall picture. Game length is roughly 15-20 hours, which is par for the course for a recent game. The game is very linear, to the extent that Nicole will refuse to leave an area if not all the actions have been done or all the items found. This is perhaps a plus point of the game design. Occasionally items that were previously unusable become usable once another action has been done (i.e. making tea - teabag will not go into mug until mug is placed on stove). This can catch the player out if unprepared for such eventualities. It was worth waiting for the "wet T-shirt" moments in the final scenes.I felt this was more engrossing than the previous game [Hunt for the Puppeteer]. All in all an entertaining outing.

I enjoyed this game, just as I had the first two. Graphics are good, as is the storyline and I like the character. Some puzzles can be a bit obscure. Since this game is linear you need to solve all the puzzles before you can move on, which can be a bit frustrating. All in all it's thoroughly enjoyable

Fun game but lots of time between saves so don't stop half way or you lose the progress you've made!
