I wouldn't describe myself as an AMD fanboy, I have 4 desktops and 2 servers in my house, and there's a 50/50 Intel/AMD mix. My previous desktop was a super cheap (£45) AMD Athlon X4 860K which was just unparalleled value quad core computing. However, that one replaced a previous 760 in the same board, which failed after some moderate overclocking. I've also had a an AMD cpu fail in a laptop, that was due to overheating. My general anecdotal opinion is that the AMD's are best value in the shorter term, but Intel's are more efficient and last longer, especially when overclocked ( N.B. I have no empirical evidence for this! )So coming to the Ryzen 3 was a value for money decision.I wanted to wait till 2018 when the CoffeeLake (competitive chips but expensive boards) vs Ryzen stuff has settled down, but a motherboard failed which forced my hand. I am not a hard core gamer although I do game with a modest NVidia GTX1050. I experiment with a temporary mild to moderate overclock, but never a crazy extreme water-cooling configuration. My first choice was a Ryzen 5 1600 (hex-core) but I couldn't justify it.So was it worth it? Yes, in everyday use this is 2x the speed of my old 860K, not just perceived responsiveness but benchmarks and things like video encoding back this up i.e. encoding xvid mp4 in VSDC Video editor, previously 9-10fps now 18-20fps. Same games run smoother with the same graphics card i.e. Witcher 3, Skyrim and even Minecraft! Would an Ryzen 5 1600 or even a Ryzen 7 have been measurably quicker? Of course, but did I need it? Nope, I am happy with Ryzen 3 1300X.It really does run cool and quiet, circa 30C idle, but will exceed 60C in a benchmark pegged at 100%. In the real world it only gets hot and a bit noisy when gaming or encoding. This is all with the stock "Stealth" cpu cooler (included), stock settings and 3 case fans supporting, in normal use its nearly silent and significantly quieter than the previous 860K. I have overclocked using the Gigabyte EasyTune, although normally I hate these tools, it works well, I just hit the 3.7Ghz auto setting before I game, although to be honest it doesn't need it for 5 year old games I play in 1080, high or very high settings. The rest of the time I run it at stock, as its fast enough. This is great value for money and if you're coming from an older AMD or maybe even an older i3 or i5 I'd say its worth it. Although I'd probably still hold on till Q2 2018 and see what happens if you have a the choice.

For starters this is a great processor for budget builds and light/moderate gaming. For $99 I really can't complain too much, but it really goes to show how much you can't use specs to compare processors across different brands. I have an i5-7600 (very similar specs to this processor) and it demolishes this one when running games. Different architecture really makes a world of difference.I'd say if I had purchased a Ryzen CPU based on the PRICE of my i5 and NOT the specifications, this could be a completely different story. So this is definitely my own fault. This CPU hits 100% usage on a usual basis on games such as Dying Light and GTA V,and I've noticed it bottlenecking the GTX 1050TI.No problems with overheating using the wraith cooler and pre-applied paste (no overclocking).Learn from my mistake!

I did heavy gaming tests and it is very strong. You dont' need really any more.Compared to what you would expect. You can overlock if you want but it will produce a lot heat for tiny gains.Online even expert sites are wrong about it's specs. Go and see on AMD itself.Like it can really controll its frequency like an intel if you are into power saving..For gaming 100/100 power settings please. It comes with a stock AMD cooler! I automaticly put the cheapest heatpipe cooler on. It is under 50degC even on full load ( room temp 24degC).

Very good CPU good overclocker and it's a good product I just think that it doesn't really justify costing more than the r3 1200 because it reaches 4GHz while the 1200 can reach 3.9GHz on the same architecture with about the same specs not just that but the r3 2200G cost less and reaches same clocks with less latency so be informed when you buy don't get me wrong its way better than buying intel it's just it doesn't make sense I bought it on Cyber Monday for 99 USD so it was Worth it then

Would recommend this CPU. Given its price: great power (if you want a good CPU, don't look at threads and / or cores, its much better to have a few beefy cores for games (unless you're doing parallel computing in which case I'd be learning from you), and by beefy cores I mean main frequency). Also great default cooling fan. I thought of applying cooling gel on my own but by monitoring hardware I found its no need. With meltdown & spectre this spring messing with Intel, I'd say: go AMD!

I bought mine a little less than a year ago and it has served me well, I successfully overclocked mine to 4.0 GHz 1.3v and maintains under 50c while gaming at around 60 fps(arctic 34esports duo air cooler). I do run it with a 1060 6gb sc so it does its job while running games like monster hunter and modern warfare mainly at mid settings. the new ryzen 3 chips have launched so this isn't necessarily the best bang for your buck anymore but I can't complain.

make sure you install win 10 if you install win 7 you will not get updates and you will get problems like your HID mouse, and HID keyboard win 7 wants drivers and can not find drivers manually installed updates 183 updates later witch was an hour and a half through an SSD if your running a standard hard drive 7200 rpm 6 hours later it finally told me win 7 was not compatable with the RYZEN CPU the RYZEN needed the latest version of windows hope that helps

I'm not a connoisseur of CPUs and am a first-time computer builder. But the friend advising the building mentioned a thermal paste to apply between the processor and its fan. And this doesn't have that. It doesn't even have a film covering a pre-applied paste that one would simply remove. It has a dry pre-applied "paste" with no covering. And that was confusing and worrisome to me. This processor seems to be unique in that way, but it's working fine.

I picked one of these up as a "test" CPU for my new Ryzen build and wow great first impression, it is a plucky little beast, my motherboards bios automatically upped the base core to 3.7 and it would turbo to 3.9. No doubt overclockers will get more out of it. It is a fast CPU for everyday use, I had it paired with a GTX1070 and it would play everything you threw at it in 1920x1080. If you are just a gamer then you can not go wrong.

A nice entry point into the world of Ryzen. Not super powerful, but it can hold its own against others in its price range. Good performace for its cost. Great for budget costed gaming builds. As a side note, the included wraith cooler is plenty for the stock chip as long as you leave it at the stock settings. If you are planning on dabbling into the world of overclocking, definitely invest in a more powerful aftermarket cooler.

The CPU is not failing me when it comes to gaming and has not given me any issues running any game thus far; I never did the crisis test or the Arma test as of yet, however. The fan is by far the quietest fan I have used to date, making me sometimes wonder if the thing started spinning. Though it has an insane stealth skill, it keeps the interior area of the pc cooler than my last one and keeps circulation moving quite well.

I use this in my Linux Mint machine and it does wonderfully. Installed it with a ridiculous CPU cooler so XFR could flex it's legs when needed. So far it's been extremely reliable on an Asus Prime B350 Plus mobo, DDR4 Micron/Crucial Ballistix 2400Mhz memory, and an Asus Zonar PCIe 1x sound card. Paired it with a GTX 1050 for light gaming in Linux. Just a great (new) budget Linux all around workstation setup for me.

My son needed something to replace my old hand-me-down core2duo system. I recently built myself a Ryzen 1700 and love it. I figured for gaming, he's only going to make use of 2-3 cores tops, and it's 3.5ghz+...Even with his "old" r9 280x it plays Fortnight great on med/high settings. Might have been able to push higher. Fantastic bang/buck CPU for entry/mid-range systems.

Its been a little while now and this processor holds up amazingly well. I have played Destiny 2 and The Division on High and they worked flawless. However, Recording Destiny 2 on High settings showed some hickups, which I expected. Overall, If you need a good chip for gaming, This is it. BUT if you want to record 1080P on High/Ultra, you may need to step it up.

It works about as well as my old i5 4690k that died recently. I purchased this a few months back with plans to upgrade to ryzen 2 when they came out, and it did the job just fine at a nice low cost.Honestly even with ryzen 2 out this is still a good processor for the cost, if you are looking for a budget gaming processor this one will definitely do the trick.
