the firmware, build quality and simplicity to set this machine up was awesome. It's great looking. Definitely 5 starBut only 4 star as you have to download the usermanual, but that doesn't explain what an ISO mount is in enough detail!!! And that's just one example. I'm using this machine to maybe 15-20% of its full potential. So if your a techie - Great, but for a novice like me its 4 star as the lack of customer support is just bewildering! WD do you just not care?Plus top tips:Uncoil the Ethernet cable fully. As keeping it in a neat ribbon can hamper speedAlso I have a sky router with no gigabit port. This meant slow upload speeds.after much research I bought a Netgear GS105 with a Cablesense Cat 6 FTP.Uncoil Ethernet cable again. Now I'm running at over 5x the speed as this creates a gigabit port!!! For only £19 for my Netgear it's the best value product!!! I hope this review helps because lots of people with this same device have the same issue with routers with no gigabit port. Here's the solution. Now I can upload and download from the EX2 quicker than an iPhone 6 connected to 4G at a speed of 26.44 Mbps. Hope this helps!!!!!!!!!!!And to get some real advice watch Lon Seidman on his review of the EX2 and My Cloud Mirror to help understand some of the figures. I have written to Lon to make an in depth video to explain the features of the My Cloud EX2. Fingers crossed. He's helped me before - let's hope he does again!!!!Update WD support, a gentlemen called Michael wrote an email asking how I was getting on with the product and if I need any support. I replied back, expecting nothing. Michael is a high level problem shooter. He scheduled a call and spent 1 hour going through all the features of the EX2.He has sent me emails since and has offered me continual support!!! Amazing....now defo 5* star. Ps most of the features I didn't know where for more techie types and not needed by me! But thanks to Michael @ WD. Now 5 star with personalised support!!!

Without doubt, this product has enough depth for private and business use, also for amateur and professional. From my amateur, private use, I don't find the software very user friendly. For example, whilst FTP is available to use, and is mentioned in the pdf user guide, the reason why you would want to use it, or not, and a step-by-step guide in setting it up is missing, leaving the uninitiated hanging loose. I am having to do research elsewhere to discover what should be included in the user guide. I also believe that an Android tablet is not able to use the dashboard, but this is not mentioned. One is left to do one's own experimentation to find out how to use the software which is provided. Why WD have omitted the detail, obvious to a professional, but not to the amateur, is not easy to understand. It would have been better to provide too much detail, which one can choose to filter as needed. However, it is because the drives are replaceable, and upgradeable, that I made this the product of my choice. I am prepared to take time to learn the detail needed to elevate its use above the basic. Already I am impressed by the speed of exchanging data to and from the WD MyCloud Ex2 using a local WiFi network. Without using the WD software, I am using a simple backup programme to backup a data drive, knowing that it will continue where it left off, even after a computer shutdown. In the event of one drive failing, the knowledge of the built-in carbon copy (Raid 1) on the second drive is comforting. One day I will investigate adding a second user, and its complexities, and afterwards, giving access to some photos to a friend's email. If WD would compose a detailed user guide, suitable for dummies like me, I would be the first in the queue.Phil

Yes thats right, it's a disk attatched to my network, its not a cloud. But then all this cloud stuff is just servers and disks in a data-centre, so my home datacentre is now my cloud. Why use dropbox, well younget bags of free dropbox but the free allocations expire and then you will need to pay, and this will add up year on year. So I think this is cheaper in the long run.Backing up my machines, I'm a tech lover, I have too many pc's, mac's, tablets, phones. And I sometimes plug in a drive and back them up, but in don't do it often, and backing up to drop box will take days and cost £s, so I need NAS (network attached storage) , I am running out of disk space because I've got copies of music and photos and documents all over the place, but always on the wrong device. So get NAS, research it and go for cloud. Then which one, well Synology is popular but more expensive and you often read the device is flimsy plastic, this is solid well made very professional feeling and looking.Get the enclosure and a couple of WD Red drives for the cost of just the Synology without disks. Install disk's tool free, power on, and configure in about 15 minutes.Add family users so they can get free cloud, backup all my devices, move my music and videos to central location, free disk space on my machines and by secure with RAID protected disks. What is stopping you?

Since the first version of this product WD have increased the speed of the CPU to 2.0GHz. The memory is still a bit low at 512MB. Storage capacity is quite significant but the 24TB size, which is also available, may perform slightly worse than this 20TB version. The disks used are WD RED 5.0 TB. These are quite a bit "slower" and cheaper, though larger capacity, than the RED Pro 4TB versions which I would have preferred. As the unit requires you to replace "like-for-like", something not mentioned too loudly by the maker, I would suggest purchase of spare drives from a similar production batch, i.e. at the same time as the NAS, if your storage is in any way critical.Network speed is, probably, the worst feature of this device. It does have two Ethernet ports with the ability of load sharing but response and transfer times are still a bit on the slow side when compared with my Netgear NAS. For DLNA and "single file at a time" storage for one or two PC's this speed problem will not be a hazard. Where it does fall short is in large data transfer tasks, i.e. 200-400GB. That's when you notice it! The best speed I have attained is through using Link Aggregation with LACP (802.3ad).One criticism of the Amazon Product Description is that the content information is NOT for the EX4 but the EX2 as indicated at one point in the text.

With a substantial collection of digital images (original and scanned) I needed an additional, rather than alternative method of storage to supplement my external RAID enclosure. The WD My Cloud EX4 provides a robust solution. It works well, very well with Apple Mac devices and is 'visible on Mac Pro, iMac, MacBook Pro, iPad and iPhone. (a word of caution on the iPhone on data usage....). I opted for the WD Red 3Tb drives (reviewed elsewhere). Yes, it is expensive but what price security? What I especially liked is the ease with which it is set up. No drama, simple in fact.A final word of caution however. Be ready for a long (I mean long) period while data is loaded. It took 38.02 hours to clone 1.09Tb of digital data from an internal drive via the Netgear Switch. Subsequently, I have invested in a TP-Link Gigabit switch. I repeated the cloning out of interest. This time is tool just 8.3 hours. Well with the £20 for switch then...

Got this drive diskless and added my own WD Green 4TB so total storage is 8TB which is nice. Overall a good drive, fast with file sharing and read-write speeds but quite slow with extra apps. Plex server can barely work and using a second app at the same time makes plex unusable.Pros:- Solid construction, easy to set up, nicely built- Fast for file sharing and read/write- Nice interface with dashboard- Loads of additional apps other than built-in functionality- Mobile app works very well on both iOS and AndroidCons:- Slow processor and not very good at multitasking. Easily overloaded when using more than one apps at the same timeBottom line is that if you are a tech-savvy person looking for a strong home-server as a media/plex server, web server etc this drive is not powerful enough. For standard home file sharing, personal backups etc it's great.

Very pleased with the product. The only problem with the product is the power down settings. You can't have the cloud power down at all the times you require. It can turn off from 12am till 7 in the morning say but not from 1am till 7 in the morning because of the slider to operate this function. Hopefully they will update the software that controls it. You can link your pc to your router via Ethernet to speed up your transfers of data to your cloud. Works best with a decent router. I'm using a NETGEAR nighthawk another good bit of kit. Paid for two day delivery a got the item 4 days later. Only four stars because of delivery. Not happy I could of had free delivery 3-5 days.

Used to store all of my music and photos so they don't fill up my laptop. It sits on my home network and works very well. The fact that it auto does 2 copies one on each drive is an additional safety factor. One thing to note if you are expecting to be able to back up your computer to it, Windows 7 Home Premium will not back up to a network drive this is not a fault of this device it is Windows 7 that requires the Professional version. Its also the same for Windows Vista you will need the Pro version of Windows for it to backup to the network drive. Just to clarify, this is just to do a backup of a computer this device will work well as an additional drive on your network.

We brought this product so hat we had a bit of redundancy in our data storage. It was relatively easy to set up. It does seem a little complicated to access as it doesn't just appear as an additional drive in explorer but that's probably more to do with the security access feature which is a benefit. The interface to the MAC is much cleaner.Occasionally its hasn't been possible to connect to the drive and it's required a reboot. Not a problem if you are at home but if you are away there is no way to get to your data so it can be frustrating. But when it is working which is most of the time it's great.

My reasoning for going for the WD My Cloud was primarily to replace my aging old NAS, found this easy to configure, and easy to use. The ability to connect to the Internet giving the ability to connect via mobile devices, iPads, iPhones and via the Web means I've looked at this now to replace all my cloud storage. With the easy ability to add users it's very easy to safely store your files (using the RAID) and share with anyone in the world. I had a minor using when configuring and found the WD support also exceptionally knowledgable, friendly and helpful.

Very nice little unit. Find it strange that it has a quick lock for the unit but the drives are still quite easy to pinch!Software is a bit of a pain to install and get head round but it is all up and running. Backing up my external storage drive but very slowly over the WiFi Network. Not tested the access out on the field yet.....All in all i'm happy with the purchase

Easy to start working with although security options could be clearer ie how to lock down individual areas so multiple users only see what they are supposed to. Also would be good to have auto upload from devices but these are minor points. I use this with W7 laptop, iPhone and iPad and works unbelievably well. Definitely recommended.

A few problems at the start like being locked out of the dashboard but very helpful people at WD customer care sorted me out and all working fine now, very good product keeps all your data safe as automaticly backs it up to second drive

3.7.2015

An excellent product - easy to set up and working well for me. I haven't needed to restore any files yet but the process looks straightforward and the backed up files are as easy to find as they are on the source PC
