This was a last minute gift idea for my 6 year old son and turned out to be the best present from his party. I was just looking for a point and click camera as he likes taking pictures when he gets the chance. This is full of entertaining features to make the pictures fun and to let them use their imagination along with games and activities too.Best FeaturesScenes - lots of animated images where you add pictures to create scenes. Best are: thought bubble, rock star and wizard, they're great for kids imagination games.Distortions - bulge, kaleidoscope and lots more that are hard to explain make the pictures change shape which is good for quick laughsTwist the lens to go through filters - rainbow and negative are the best.My son was fascinated seeing things in negative and said we all looked like aliens.Image shaker - when in this mode shake the camera to add funny objects when a face is detected in the picture or distortions when no face is detected, great again for laughs.Games - there are 4 games that don't rely on the camera, these are simple to play but hard to master so is great for developing multiple skills and good entertainment too.Good to knowIt takes two AA batteries in the left handle and two more in the right handle. The camera is 5 megapixel and although this is low resolution by today's standards its good enough to print out pictures or display on your smart TV. It has an optional flash, the power turns off after 5mins of not being used, it has two manual viewfinders (like looking through binoculars) but the display screen is easier to use. The memory can be expanded with a micro sd card, I prefer plugging it in to my laptop every once in a while with the USB cable to download the pics to a folder and delete them off the internal memory, without an sd card the camera holds 200 images when using the front camera (lots more when using the lower megapixel rear camera). When taking pictures you have to hold it still until the hand has stopped showing on screen, it takes about 3 seconds, you'll have to explain this to your child or you'll get a lot of blurred pictures. Please click helpful below if my review was useful to you ?

The camera works out of the box (no need to take it and set it up before wrapping it) and is a very decent first camera for a child. My 4.5 year old daughter can operate it and actually sussed out the different main features faster than I did! As with most digital cameras it has a digital screen displaying the live image, but it also has a double viewfinder which teaches youngsters about lining up an image by eye, but without them having to coordinate closing one eye to do it (which might be tricky for smaller children). The camera has features found on adult cameras including a 4 times zoom, a flash which can be turned on or off or put on automatic, and a timer, plus it also has a rear camera for selfies, coloured filters (including black and white), a video camera option, voice recorder, fun photo effects, a basic photo editor and some games which can be disabled or limited through the parental controls. It's a robust camera with a rubber shell and a sturdy feel, and it takes 5 megapixel photos. Whilst the picture quality isn't fantastic, it is much better outdoors and this is a great camera for a child to learn to use a camera with, whilst being relatively hardy to being dropped etc, and the photos themselves not taking up too much space on a computer. The internal memory stores about 200 photos, and we purchased a 16GB micro SD card to expand the memory (it will take up to 32GB), which will store approx 14,000 photos or 900 minutes of video, which is plenty. The camera talks to a PC using the provided micro USB cable and Dropbox is able to recognise the camera and download the new photos automatically. My only gripe, and the reason I'm giving it 4 stars rather than 5, is that it runs on batteries (4xAA) rather than being rechargeable. I would expect any digital camera in this day and age to be rechargeable so didn't even think to check. The batteries supplied with the unit only lasted 1 day, so we have purchased some Energizer extreme rechargeable batteries and they are lasting longer.

This is my 3rd V-Tech camera purchase, having brought 2 previously for my now teenager eldest during her early years. My youngest just turned 4 and like a lot of kids that age is always picking up everyone elses tablets/phones to play - I wanted to get him something age appropriate that was his to tinker with. V-Tech has done the job perfectly. Some reviewers have complained that the games take away from the camera feature, my response to this (from my previous experiences with earlier version of the camera that also had games on) would be, yes they do but only to some extent. Eventually the child gets interested in going back to look at other features too.I like that my son has his own little device to play with - if he's playing with the games then I have no problem with that (they are very simple games), in fact we all sit with him and play them/help him with it. We also encourage the photo side and do lots of the comedy frames together. We also have a lot of fun doing silly voices on the voice recorder. You can of course turn the games feature off in the options. It's robust enough to be dropped about and easy enough for a 4 year old to operate (with a bit of help here and there, also he turned the language to german by accident at one point!).The photos themselves are fairly low quality. It does have a flash on it and also a limited zoom feature. As above there are lots of frames and animations you can do (my eldest got more into this when she was a bit older/after having the camera for a while). If you are looking for a pure camera for more serious photography then this is not it - but if you are looking for an age appripriate electronic toy with a few different features and something that does a great job of entertaining older toddlers/preschoolers/early years this is really brilliant and excellent value for money.

I was very pleasantly surprised to find just how good this “toy” camera is. Not just still pictures, video and voice recording, themes, clip-art and five video games that require concentration, but are simple enough for the child (and the parent) to have some success.I really like the conventional camera design. The lens is in the middle of the front and the colour LCD screen in the middle of the back. There are two chunky, tactile, handgrips, which double as battery holders, each holding two AA batteries (supplied). Perfect for small hands. On the front of the right hand grip is a shutter release and on the left hand grip a button to switch to a rear facing camera for “selfies”.On the back of the right hand grip is a control wheel for the 4X digital zoom. The other controls are all on the back of the camera body; play-back, volume, delete and power on/off at the bottom, directional button and home button (menu) on the left, OK and star (function) on the rightStandard picture resolution is 5Mp, and there is also a low-res (.3Mp) mode. In standard mode, the 250 MB internal memory holds up to 140 pictures, but this can be expanded to over 28k with an optional micro SD card (up to 32GB).Pictures can be displayed on the screen or downloaded to a computer using the supplied micro USB cable. Although not high resolution, they are more than adequate for social media or reasonably sized prints.Much of the operation is fairly intuitive, but all is explained in the enclosed, printed, “Parent’s Guide”.The attached picture was taken in morning light, the only edit was to reduce the picture size.Apart from being fun, the VTech Kidizoom Duo 5.0 Playset provides a very good introduction to digital photography. For a toy, this is a very good camera.

This little camera is brilliant value for money. I paid 35£ for this item when it was on offer but I still feel it is great value for money at its retail price of 42£. It is the perfect birthday or Christmas present.I love taking photos and have recently brought myself a new camera to play around with so I brought this for my 2 year old so he can join in with me taking photos without having to touch MY new toy!I was not expecting much for the price I paid but it really is a great little gadget. The camera its self is really easy to use. My little one knows how to turn it on and take photos without any issues. It isn't to heavy either so it is easy for little fingers to hold.Just be mindful like an adults camera you 'need'to buy extras to go with (which then makes a cheap toy a lot more expensive, shock!!) I would recommend getting the following -1. Rechargeable batteries. This will save you money in having to replace them every week!2. An SD card to store the photos on.3. The matching camera case to store it in. This makes my little one feel like he is a proper photographer and feels the part when we take our cameras out!The reason I have given it a 4 star is because I honestly don't understand why there are silly little games on there?! That did nearly put me off buying it as I wanted just a camera but nothing else on the market seemed as good as this option. The games are just as rubbish as I imagined too. Lucky my little one is to young to workout how to play them but I am sure a 4/5 year old would know how to.I would definitely recommend this to friends and family.

Wow, I did not expect it to produce very usable photos worthy archiving. The quality is very good considering it is a toy camera even in low light. Not so good with backlight due to its low HDR capability. We have a top-end mirrorless Camera but the kids seem to really love their own work as we are saving the photos from this camera alongside those from a real camera for their memories. I did not have to show them how to use it and was surprised to see they shot various photos with frames, stickers and stamps. It is nice that out of the box it can take pictures without a microSD card, using the onboard 156MB storage. The controls are very easy to use,so within a couple of hours my 7 and 9-year-old kids were able to operate the Camera fully, all I did was set the time and date for them. The design is very good, it is attractive in a childish way. Ergonomically, it offers very good handling for both hands with the shutter button (right) and front-rear lenses switch (left) are within a finger's distance and can be easily operated while firmly holding the Camera. At first, we getting a lot of blurry photos. I changed settings during the initial setup and now the Toy Camera compensates for minor camera shakes. It shows a stabilisation symbol when taking photos (kind of waving hand) on a photo as the shutter button is depressed. This is really good for teaching photography to kids.Highly recommended Toy Camera.

I write this review based on my decades of experiences as a consumer, raising a family and using similar devicesI bought this (at my wife insistence) for our bright 3 year old grand daughter. The instructions are reasonably good although I would have preferred more details in bigger print. My old eyes struggled. A child would have little chance of interpreting them into being able to use them.Turn on / off. EASYTake selfies. EASY.ZOOM for bigger or smaller picture size. EASY.USE THE SPECIAL EFFECTS BUTTONS.NOT AT ALL EASY.Switch picture to video. EASYThe camera appears to be well made with plenty of built in padding so that it will be fairly robust IF looked after properly.Fitting batteries anda SIM card was EASY.My granddaughter is delighted and you can tell such fro the reaction when opening the wrapped gift. She is a bright clever child but it will still take repeated and patient instructions and assistance with the child to enable her to use the camera.OVERALL, it is expensive for its capabilities but the nieche comes with young child specific protection. The colours of the camera are bright and pleasing to look at.Screen appears quite dull to me and I have been using LCD camera with screens for many years. Not yet attached or tested through a laptop so actual picture capability is not known

This is a super gift for any young person 5 years and older to practice taking photos and video. My first camera was given to me by my Grandparents and it was a Box Brownie. At the age of about 7, I was given a stylish Kodak Ektra 2 camera, where the handle encased the lens and body. It took simple photos, with no zoom, no special effects and certainly no video. Today you can buy this amazingly robust and well-made camera, probably for the same amount in real terms as my parents paid for the Ektra. This can take still shots, it has a 4 times digital zoom, a 5mp sensor, it has post editing effects which can easily be added, a flash and a nice video function. What more could you want? The photos it takes are OK. They are not top quality, but they are perfectly OK. It is so very easy to use and I would say 5 years plus will have no problem in using it. It is robust and can be dropped on soft ground and I would be confident it will survive. It takes 4 AA batteries. It has a small built-in memory which allows for about 200 photos and a micro SD card slot for expansion of the memory. Overall this is a great little camera and any child would love to own it. I took one star off, as in some limited circumstances I found the lens shutter was a bit slow and the result was a blurred picture. Recommended.

This is a perfect starter camera for younger children perhaps up to maybe 8 years old.I have bought both the blue and pink older versions of this camera in the past for my Children and the main difference as far as I can tell is that the picture quality has been improved on this newer version. Whilst my Children's older versions aren't used every day (they have had them for quite some time now) they are still used quite regularly even just to play the games on them and make photos with special effects and I can confirm the older version which is the same design is very robust and has survived multiple drops on the floor. The camera has a padded grip area on each side to help little hands holdit and on the older ones we own this has also acted as a perfect cushion to prevent the camera's being broken. In addition to being able to take photos and selfies (camera can be forward or rear facing) the camera also has some games on it which can be played on the LCD screen and your child can also add fun photo effects to photo's, view them and delete them etc as necessary.Obviously my Children have the older version and so were able to use this new one straight away but I can confirm that it is very easy to use and a perfect starter camera with the added bonus of fun effects and games.

This camera takes good photos and it will survive a bit of rough handling. There are some fun creative features, but the kid really has to be interested in taking pictures to warrant the price.Mostmobile phones will be able to take the same quality photos (5mp) and you can download photo programmes that can add similar fun notes and edits and of course it can be used for a whole lot of other things. My nephews really like this camera, but after 30 minutes of photographing everything from the dog (which blurred because it couldn't sit still) to gramdad's shoes and then trying out some editing stuff, they left it on a table and hsve not been back to it since. At just 4 and 6 they might be a bit on the young side, but any older and they would want something more technical, so it's a difficult one.The quality is good, it's a great introduction to picture taking and it can take some bumps, but I would make sure the kids really want it before opting for it as a present as otherwise it could easily end up unused on the shelf - much like my own cameras after the phones took over....

Bought for a boys Christmas present, 3 yearsPros...Camera itself is simple to use. Easy set up and requires 4 x AA batteries. We've converted to using rechargables, but it's battery life overall is very good.Sturdy due to the side protection. Has a good selection of frames and games to play, which are very simple so excellent for a three to four year old.A particular favourite feature of it is the Selfie mode, and the focus tuner on the lens changes the colour of the pictures, there's about 7 filters. We got this about a month before Chirstmas at just over twenty pounds (on a deal) and I think it has been fantastic for the price so far.Cons...The image quality is very poor on both the front and back cameras,I didn't expect it to be brilliant, but it's worse than I thought it would be.I would maybe have bought it for when he was 4-5, as it requires a steady hand, It is made ergonomically well to hold straight and still, however my son was just a tad to young at the time of purchase and is much better with it now he's a bit older. (Nearly 4).

With your mobile phone being able to take perfectly serviceable photos (and better) these days you might question the need for a product like this. Well maybe you don't want your child throwing your I-Phone about and breaking it.At 5MP it's not breaking the technological barriers but as a fun kid's toy it's great. It's sturdily built and will withstand the usual bumps and bruises of everyday life. The pictures it's takes are fine in "normal" condition and a little less fine in other conditions but that's to be expected with something like this. The built-in memory can fit a couple of hundred or so photos (and you can add memory via an SD card)and generally it's just great fun for kids who might have an interest in taking photos but can't yet be trusted with anything more flimsy! There's also plenty of fun effects you can add to photos and it even has a voice recorder too. Runs via 4 AA batteries which have had a very reasonable use time so far.

This is a great toy! I bought this for my 2,5 yr old since he showed interest in taking photos but my 4,5yr is completely addicted to it. We had a bunch of kids in various ages over for NYE and they were ALL entertained for 2 days with it. It has been dropped several times, but the silicone-like casting around it has protected it from any damage. It has photo function, games, picture frames, voice recorder, video recorder etc. It takes reasonably good photos once the kids get the hang of keeping still to take a photo. My 4,5 yr one loves to makes videos of herself of singing. The only downside is that because it is so popular among my kids, the batteries need to be changed frequently - so maybe investing in rechargeable batteries would be a good idea! On the other hand, when the batteries go I just say it broke down and the kids get a break from the camera :)

Picture quality is fine for 5-8s and in the price bracket. I’m not going up a Prince point until there’s less chance of breaking it, and let’s face it, the older folk break things anyway. It’s super easy to use but as per usual, doesn’t store much so you have to buy the mini card for extra storage. In these times, WHY are we still using batteries to operate, rechargeable or not? This bugs me.Also why have the games? Destroys the creativity and cameras become another thing entirely. I have another child staring at a screen. Staring at screens isn’t normal and why are we all conditioned to believe this? Remove the games as soon as you can - easy to disable this in settings.Otherwise this is a great camera compared to others.Looked at cheaper - didn’t feel comfortable spending my hard earned cash on them. This is bump proof and my daughter is loving it.

My daughter loves this camera, we bought it for her 6th birthday and she was able to pick it up and use it straight away with very little instructions given, she has taken many pictures and quite a few videos, the flash is pretty bright and the picture quality is what you would expect on a kids camera actually its a little better when transferred to her account on the computer (windows dedicated children's account that you can monitor), the screen isn't as good on the camera but it does the job. The games are a little strange but being a kids camera you can see why they added them but they really aren't needed to be honest. Overall it is a really good camera that would be a great starter camera for kids wanting to take pictures by themselves. But be prepared for loads of blurry pictures and videos of them spinning around.
