I really recommend this camera for any younger child who is still too young to use a ‘grown up’ digital camera. It provides a really good simple introduction to the world of photography. It is specially designed to appeal to younger children. It is big and bright with bold colours and big handgrips that are ideal for little fingers. The camera is encased in a kind of plastic armour that protects it from liquids and knocks. It is typical V-Tech; carefully thought out, beautifully designed and very well made. The back side of the camera has a number of buttons for functions such as home screen, menu, take picture, up down left and right etc. These are big and colourful and, again, designed for ease of child use. The menu screen is pretty straightforward but of course the child needs to be able to read to use it fully. The camera itself is 2 megapixel with a 4 x zoom. It has forward and backward facing lenses and these provide reasonable clarity and definition for child use. It can take single shots or movies and it comes with 25MB of memory. This isn’t very much once you start taking pictures so you really need to buy a micro SD memory card as well so you don’t have to keep deleting things. The camera also contains a number of interesting and ‘fun’ extras. It has a limited photo editing facility where you can change the colour balance and visual arrangement of the images. It also contains five games that a child can play with when he or she gets fed up of taking pictures.Images can be downloaded to a laptop or other device via a simple micro USB cable that comes with the camera. You can also access the V-tech navigator via your laptop internet connection and download all kinds of other stuff from extra games to apps.I bought this camera for my great grandson nearly a year ago now and he has had hours of great fun with it. He is now just over four years old and becoming more and more proficient at taking photographs and videos. He can use most of the functions on the camera and he shows no sign of losing interest in it. It seems to have real staying power and will hold a child’s interest for a long time. Overall I thoroughly recommend it.

I bought this camera as a Christmas present for my three year old and he absolutely loves it! Three months later, the novelty certainly hasn't worn off and he can't wait until summer when the weather will (hopefully) be dry enough to take it out and about. Until then he is quite happy photographing our home, pets and belongings and in particular... himself! The viewfinder can very easily be flipped to photograph yourself, the world in front of you, or the sky/ceiling. When I first uploaded the pictures my son had taken, I was delighted to see the many 'selfies' he had taken, including close up pictures of his 'concentrating face' which I just couldn't have taken myself without him noticing me and posing.I would recommend this camera for that feature alone, I now have precious photographs of a whole array of facial expressions! Another feature that my son loves is the inbuilt games, several let you photograph your face so that you can be the little character, and one game lets you shoot germs that look like they are actually in the room (etc) with you, as the viewfinder is being used as the game's background. We have never purchased a memory card for this camera and the inbuilt memory holds lots of pictures. This is a fun and sturdy little camera which seems perfect for my son's age but I can see it still suiting him in several years time (as long as technology hasn't moved on too dramatically by then!).

bought for my son when he was 4 - he is now 7 and it is still one of his favorite toys. It is so easy to use with loads of features that kids can easily access and use themselves. Initially, he was drawn to the simple games (some of them use a photo to put the player in the game). Then he went through a selfie obsession phase - the lens twists to make this easy - lots of photos posing with the "hilarious" hats, moustaches etc that can be superimposed on the screen. Next, it was videos and diary entries. Now it is the animation function that he spends hours playing with - I had forgotten that the camera had this function but he was able to find it and work it out all by himself,it is so easy to use and he has an awful lot of fun making lego movies.I have been really surprised at how robust the camera is - I thought the twisting lens would easy to break, but two and a half years down the line and it is still so far so good, the rubber grips and edging must protect pretty well from bumps and drops, my kids are not careful and this camera has been put through its paces time and time again. No computer glitches either. Picture quality has dropped a little since new and is a little less sharp but not so much that my son has noticed. I bought a similar camera for my daughter but she has unfortunately recently lost it in a tent blowing away incident, I am definitely considering buying this one again.

I bought this toy as a distraction for my 2 year old grandson because he wanted to play with my brand new digital camera, and he loved it from the moment it came out of the box. The design of this little camera makes it very easy for a child to hold and the rubbery casing protects the camera should the child decide to see how far it will fly. The two megapixel resolution is perfect as it means lots of pictures can be taken on the internal memory and the pictures are of an ideal size to send by email or upload if required. I have not found it necessary to buy a separate memory card. I did buy some rechargeable AA batteries and a battery charger though, as my grandson uses the camera quite a lot.He loves taking pictures of his toys, himself and his family and anything else that catches his eye. He's also discovered some of the funny effects available on his camera and this is always accompanied by hoots of laughter. The camera does everything you would expect from a digital camera and more, with filters, funny photo effects and games. The camera is aimed at 3 years and over but my grandson has just turned 2 and he has hours of fun with it. He hasn't used the games yet but that's something else for him to discover when he's a bit older. I think this camera is one of the best toys ever and would recommend it for any little budding photoghrapher.

This was the perfect present from Father Christmas! My little girl, as with most children in our society nowadays, loves all things techy, particularly my phone and iPad. She particularly loves taking photos on my phone...I however don't, as I end up with hundred's of blurry pictures of bunny, teddy and various other items around the house, which I then have to go through and delete. I also don't allow her to have access to my phone when I am not with her.Father Christmas then suggested a toy camera could be the perfect present. After a little browsing online I soon came across this which ticks so many boxes!- Child friendly, easy to use,navigate- Solid robust design with reinforced rubber protection- Zoom- Different frames- Different colour options, b&w, sepia etc- Eyepiece turns 180 so you can take a pic of yourself and see yourself on screen- Children can learn basic camera skills and functions- Basically it does everything a modern digital camera does and my Samsung S3 phone camera does, but it is child friendly and my daughter can't accidentally call 999Plus quite a few other things I've probably missed! Pleased I bought it reduced to £33 over Christmas, but would have happily paid full price as a very well designed, top quality children's product AND you can't say that about many children's toys nowadays now can you?!

I bought this camera for my son for Christmas, but unfortunately didnt open / test it before Christmas day. When he opened it, the camera was faulty and didnt display the pictures on the lcd screen at the back (though it was taking them as we could download them onto the computer). I was very pleased with Amazons customer service though. After reporting the fault, a new one was sent out immediately, I then had 30 days to return the faulty one (I paid for return postage and it was then credited back into my bank account when they received it). That was just for info really, my star rating is based on the one we received back which was working. My son (3) loves it for taking photos and is able to play a few of the games. However I think as he gets older he will be able to make greater use of all the features. The reason why I've marked it down a star is only because it seems to eat up batteries. That saying, I had been buying cheap batteries, so I've now purchased a long life set so we'll see how they go. Would be great however, if it was supplied with a charging dock and rechargeable batteries (I know I could buy a set myself but its not as convenient when you have to take them in and out of the camera).

Bought for my son's 5th birthday and he loves this, as do we all. He, like most children now, is very comfortable with technology and I'm pretty happy for him to use the family 12MP camera but he loves the fact he now has his own one.It has a 2MP resolution which is good enough to print out 6x4 photos. The buttons are easy to understand and the camera itself has lots of different filters and effects you can add to the photos both as you take them or afterwards. The actual camera lens sits on a rotating bar which means you can also take selfie style photos too.The camera doesn't come with a memory card. You can put your own Micro SD card into the camera however we have been using it to take lots of photos and are still using the built in memory. The camera works on 4 x AA batteries (2 inserted into the bottom of each of the blue handles) and we are still using the original batteries 3 weeks later.I haven't logged into the vTech Learning Lodge yet to personalise the camera further but will get around to it.All in all a great present.

"Santa" got this for our 7 year old for Christmas. It is surprisingly light, easy to use, has a good sized screen and a "selfie" option. There are some games and fun extras such as graphic overlays, movies and an animation maker (we especially like this!). The memory is perhaps the only very slight downside but it is easy enough to take things off and put them onto a computer (I think ours fills up so quickly because it gets used so much). I have been particularly impressed with how well the batteries have lasted - we put some standard Duracell in on Christmas day and they have only just run out, despite very regular use. Also I like the fact that you do not need a screw driver to change the batteries - a nice touch.Picture quality is obviously not going to be amazing but we find it to be acceptable (although I have not got around to having anything printed out yet). I would certainly recommend this camera for any 5 - 8 year old. Excellent value for money.

This is the only electronic device I have allowed my children to use. After two years, it still keeps them busy, but not for too long, and that's the beauty of it.Downsides: internal memory is small so be sure to equip it with a memory card. I use rechargeable batteries with it; once you remove those to charge for 12-24 hours, you have to set the date etc all over again. Picture quality in low light is very poor, but this is expected. That said, it has many positive qualities. The sturdy build is one, it has been dropped many times by little hands and still works like a charm. It is very easy to use and seems to be intuitive for children. Learning Lodge is a nice addition. Connects to PC without a problem. And finally, when you see the little videos or funny photos they have managed to take (selfies or other), you'll find there will be many worth keeping.

This was bought as a birthday present for a three years old. His parents said it was his best gift! I was concerned he might be a little young and would not understand how to use it but he learnt very quickly and has been taking pictures of all his family. He even discovered how to use the remote and timing option on his own so that he could also be on the pictures! There are lots of nice options for funny backgroundds. It is well made and will survive the little ones. When on full price it is expensive but I got it at a discounted price and it was really worth it. I later bought another one in pink for a little girl.Amazon did not have it at the discounted price in pink but be aware that Tesco had it at exactly the same discounted price around the Christmas period so worth checking if you can't find it anymore on Amazon/

Although bought this a while before my son's 3rd birthday, this review comes almost a month after handing the camera over. It's definitely an item that a child will get more out of as they grow up and their general understanding increases. I'd say, that with a bit of coaching, the basics of point and click can be achieved by most. The instant gratification of seeing an image on the viewer is helpful. The manufacturers of this product know how to build things that will last! I guess I'm not the only parent or guardian to have picked up the camera after it has been whimsically launched across the room onto a hard floor - amazed that the thing still works! I'd definitely recommend. The large number of features alone, including excellent durability make this a decent buy.. so far so good!

Takes pictures, videos and has a number of embedded games which the children seem to enjoy for hoursVolume: moderately intrusive but has a simple control so you can tell the little blighters to keep it quiet while you are drivingStorage: internal is consummed VERY quickely so additional micro SD card well worth getting.Batteries: (4 x AA) seem to last about 2 weeks of fairly heavy usage so worth getting rechargeablesConstruction: excellent - very robust and the rubberised handles work well to keep the central camera bit out of harms wayImage quality: On high resolution it's OK for snaps but I don't have a budding David Bailey so that's fineRecommend: definitely;Buy another: I had to,once my daughter had one my son gave me no peace

I bought this for my little brother, aged 4 and he loves it! Not only does it take pictures in all sorts of cool and wild effects, it also has pre loaded games on too so that if you go out for the day, they can play those (instead of taking their parents phones). This product is very well made and it's made to last! The one I bought has been dropped, time and time again, and it is still going strong! It has a rechargeable battery that lasts for ages, so there's no need to spend more money on batteries (which gets very annoying). If you're thinking about buying this for your child, then do it! They will have hours of fun and it really does develop creativity!

My 3yo Son loves this and it has loads of features to keep him entertained. I would give it 5 stars but It did stop working at ten months (wouldn't turn on) so I contacted VTech directly (Amazon are no use here) and contrary to all the other reports I've seen they were amazing. Sent me a form to fill in over email and send back the camera, got a brand new replacement a few days later with little fuss. It looks like they have learned there lessons from peoples previous bad experiences and really upped their game so well done to them. Just wish it hadn't broken in the first place but it is a child's toy after all.

Bought this for my Grandson as a Christmas present and although he hasn't quite mastered the skill of holding the camera steady when pressing the shutter button, I'm sure he will in time.Since Christmas it has survive being dropped several times - once bouncing down the stairs apparently - so, all being well, he may be using it when he is older and his hands are steadier. For a 'Toy' camera the pictures are pretty good and the video not bad either.I had great fun using the Animation function making videos of food moving around the table etc - when I could get the camera away from my Grandson that is.
