--Packaging--Something that both Amazon and ViewSonic are often great about is their packaging and protection of products on route. This was no different, inside of multiple layer of protection which were both cardboard and foam is a well protected projector. The projector in no way touches the outer boxes and it sits within a foam frame, around which is place for the included cables, cable management and quick start guide as well as remote.--Design--Following suit from previous models in ViewSonic’s Lightstream range this projector has a brushed dark grey (almost black) colour, almost all the ports are at the rear like most projectors and are well covered / protected when the cable management is on.The cable management allows for cables to be routed either left, right or down making it perfect for any setup. The on projector Controls are full buttons instead of temperamental touch style buttons. As well as the standard focusing lens you also have the ability to lens shift with a dial, this is view handy and helps when you're trying to project at an odd Angle but of course you also have to projection tilt buttons too. As far as rear inputs this projector has a large array making it perfect for your home cinema setup. Dual Audio In, Single Audio Out, S-Video, Video, 5V Standard USB (Perfect for powering a Google Chromecast or Amazon FireStick), Dual HDMI ports (One of which supports MHL), VGA In, VGA Out, Mini USB and a RS-232.Advertised as a 1080P Home Entertainment Projector and with this wonderful design, features and ports it’s perfect for any setup but with the Rec.709 Cinematic Colour it’ll make for a wonderful home cinema setup. One thing to be aware of it the lumens are 2200 meaning you can’t expect this to make amazing in daylight, in fact it’s designed for the darker the better. One of the main features of this projector is it’s DarkChip3 DMD which is designed for enhanced contrast, true blacks and brilliant whites alongside the Cinematic colour this all has the aim of creating the perfect home cinema colour.--Setup--Super Easy to setup and adjust for the screen, using the built in projection pattern helps to get the maximum size, sharpness and line up the projection perfectly, it's such a simple thing but makes it so much quicker getting you into the action faster.--Experience--The built in audio is far louder and cleaner than I expected from a projector meaning if the kids are watching it, it’s daytime tv or a presentation that you’ll be fine not to use an external speaker however i’d always recommend one because the audio lacks a bit of a punch and spoils some of the most action packed cinematic moments. The built in fans do give off some noise which is clear when watching quiet scenes if the projector is mounted close to where you are sat, although it’s not a lot, similar to that of a computer so you’ll be able to ignore it but be aware it's not silent.Lumens are the main way to understand just how bright the projector is and at 2200 you may think that this projector is somewhat low but in fact it helps to improve the experience. When watching movies you expect dark scenes to be black and immersive but with a projector that has very high lumens this scenes can become grey and in some cases completely change the mood of the scene. What’s great about this projector is it’s combination of lumens, rec.709 colour and true blacks help to create a very immersive true to the cinema feel at home. This is something that's been needed for a long while and previous projectors I’ve owned have not come close to the quality of image produced by this model.Thinking back to the introduction of full 1080p in TV there was one thing we all noticed that was the difference in quality and how impressive of a different it was. I’ve used a number of projectors at different resolutions and although this isn’t the first at 1080p it’s the most impressive. Being about to see all the facial wrinkles and hairs makes the whole cinema experience so much more immersive and when watching from BluRay these are very clear.Straight out the box some projectors can have bad factory calibration that puts off first time users but that’s not the case with this model and watching in those default settings makes for a great experience. I did however change up the settings throughout testing this model to find that sweet spot and perfect calibration for my setup which was somewhat easy to do.One of the most annoying things that ViewSonic still havn’t been able to improve is there built in Menus, sadly this model is no different. When doing advanced calibration you’ll find yourself going in and out of the menus a lot as they do not feel designed for doing multiple changes at once. However the custom options and settings are expansive allowing you to calibrate everything that feels necessary. Most standard users won't run into this issue but for those who want to perfect the image quality you may do.This projector features a hidden section on the side which can house a small hdmi stick. It’s behind a panel with a small screw it in so you don’t need to worry about it coming dislodged. This compartment has a hdmi input and micro usb charger. I actively went to try to use this with a Google Chromecast but it didn’t power up, even after trying by switching the MHL powered port incase it made a different. Putting the Google Chromecast into a different rear port worked fine with the standard cable.--Overall--I think that ViewSonic have really stepped up in terms of quality with this product, it’s the closest i’ve ever felt to the cinema at home and with its array of both ports and customisation settings it makes for the perfect first leap into home cinema for anyone. I’d recommend this projector to anyone who enjoys the cinema and wants the stunning quality they expect on a large screen, make sure you are aware of the issues and annoying points I have highlighted though although these may not affect you but it’s best to know what to expect from this type of product.

This is a fantastic projector with lots going for it and very impressive for the money.I got this to use as a free-standing projector for parties etc. to project movies onto the wall.I have taken a photo of the box and also the contents of the box (see below). It comes with a UK and and a European plug lead. Also provided with a 9-pin computer cable and a remote control. It has a special back piece which can be used if ceiling mounted to hide all the cabling at the back.First of all - the good.It has a fantastic picture quality. The colours are vibrant and clear even in Eco mode. I initially thought it was not bright enough to use in daylight but a quick tweak of the brightness setting put itall right. It has a fantastic distortion correction which can be done on the remote or the projector itself. Believe it or not, the photo below of the projection on the wall was taken with the projector at more than a 45 degree angle from the wall. It took about 2 minutes to manually jig the picture to be in the correct orientation. The focusing was sound and we managed to watch a movie in this position without any problem. There is a single screwable foot and the front which rises up and down to alter the position of the projection on the screen. There is also a lens shift dial which fine tunes the vertical position very effectively. The focus and zoom bars work very well to get a really crisp focus.I used this with a Lenovo pocket PC which should in theory have connected to the HDMI slot on the side of the projector. Remove a screwed in panel and it should connect to the inbuilt HDMI slot and taken power from the little Micro-USB lead inside. This did not work for 2 reasons - firstly the power did not work and secondly, the pocket PC was too wide for the hole which means that anything bigger than an Amazon Fire stick would not necessarily fit. This is a shame as having an unbuilt, powered HDMI slot is very appealing. It did connect brilliantly at the back with one of the 3 HDMI slots so I cannot really complain.*** AMMENDMENT : thank you Chris for your comment on my review. The OSD menu allows you to easily activate the USB power and it works now so I would upgrade to 4 1/2 stars if I could. I still think the sound is lacking so I am rounding down and not up!The other slightly ropy feature of this projector is the sound. It's OK for something very low key but like PC background sounds but watching a movie would not really be satisfactory using just the 10w build in speaker. It's very very tinny and lacks any bass at all. I connected it to a Sony external sound bar and it blew me away so that one was easily sorted too. This projector is remarkably light-weight and can be easily stored in a cupboard when not in use. It looks smart enough to ceiling mount if so desired and the remote is very functional and small taking AAA battery.I am very pleased that this projector did not disappoint. It loses a star only for the sound which is not the promised quality. That said, it is easily connected via an audio out to the Aux socket of an external speaker of the Aux-in on an amplifier which produces excellent results. It gives good value for money, excellent picture quality and is really very impressive even in the day.Great picture, moderate sound, good value and an excellent product

Forget big screen TVs. This is the way to watch high definition media at home. I've tested this using a 100 inch screen and the picture quality just blows me away. Set up is very simple and I have it connected to multiple inputs which switched seamlessly using the remote control - batteries included - the most complex of which is my windows 10 PC. Now my graphics card was top of the mid range three years ago when I bought my pc, and gives 1080p as standard. I thought it would struggle to scale the image up through a projector, but no. It's almost perfect. Note here that to get the best of streamed HD content from services like BBC iPlayer you will need a decent internet speed. While Amazon Prime movies look crisp and clear all the way through, iPlayer let buffering hurt the picture quality noticeably through this, to the point that it was annoying. I also noticed one or two artefacts from fast moving images, but only when the buffering was kicking in and there was degradation of the picture quality as a result. Blu Ray through this is a delight. Through the PC the sound and images sync well, although it has shown me just how bad my old PC speakers are.The keystone adjustments are really simple and intuitive. I'm told that this is the worst way to sort out the screen position with a projector, but I saw no difference with picture quality when I deliberately skewed the projector and corrected the image with keystone. There is a vertical adjustment foot which makes a big difference to the image height, and the zoom and focus on the machine itself is standard. The throw in my current living room is less than 8 feet, and this was throwing at its shortest zoom and filling a 100 inch screen. I honestly thought it wasn't going to work at that distance, but it was fine. Down the length of the living room would probably be better, but I'm so close to a house move here that it just wasn't practical to faff testing for longer than I have.I'm not at all sure that this would replace my big screen telly, but I'm impressed enough by it to ask the question. I was consigning it to a packing box marked, 'office' but having tested it thoroughly I'm now intending to install it permanently in my new sitting room. I admit that other regular visitors to the house have twisted my arm to have it available for media in the new house. The only other thing I'm going to need now is a decent surround sound system with a bit of grumble in the bass so that I can feel the sound. I think this will make special occasion media watching a real treat, and it will go a long way towards replacing the cinema that I can no longer get out to. I'll note here that this is the first projector I've ever set up and used and I found it simple and intuitive. I spent the first hour watching the screen just saying, "wow." I'm seriously like a kid at Christmas with a new toy. Anyone can set this up and most people are going to be blown away with the picture quality.

Boasting extensive connectivity and high-quality image projection at a very reasonable price, the ViewSonic LightStream Pro7827HD is an excellent home cinema projector capable of wowing viewers with its crisp images, high contrast levels and rich colour rendition. The device is reassuringly easy to set up, with out-of-the-box settings doing a decent enough job of getting the user up and running in around a minute including warm-up time. Horizontal and vertical keystone correction is a doddle thanks to an intuitive remote, meaning images can be sized and oriented in a few seconds. The projection area can be raised and lowered slightly using controls on the device, though this range is perhaps less than some might prefer. The ViewSonic's images do all the talking. The clarity, brightness and evenness of the projected visuals are all first-rate thanks to a 22,000:1 contrast ratio and flawless focal performance. 1080p HD images are rendered beautifully even at large sizes - ours was tested at 66-inches which the short throw lens deals with admirably - with a depth of colour that impressed throughout. Moving scenes maintain their crispness well, meaning gaming is not just possible but enjoyable, courtesy of outstanding brightness and consistent focus from the zoom lens. Black levels are decent yet unspectacular, and are mostly compensated for by great contrast levels and splendid image reproduction.Possessing multiple HDMI, USB and sRGB input options, the LightStream Pro demonstrates a high degree of versatility, and performs well at all those functions, meaning it is a great all-rounder for home or office. The concealed HDMI-HML compartment is, in particular, a clever idea for connecting wireless streaming device sticks while keeping cable soup to a minimum.Probably the only questionable area of the LightStream Pro is in its audio output which, while attaining good decibel levels, lacks bass and richness simply by virtue of being produced by a non-specialist device. It's likely, of course, that most dedicated movie-watchers would want to hook their sound system up anyway. For smaller rooms, it's possible that even on the lowest volume setting the audio might still be too loud and unrefined to make for comfortable listening. In terms of customising the setup, the menu options presented are plentiful, but are not supported strongly with explanatory text, added to which the lack of a printed manual can make for some fiddly back-and-forth internet referencing in the event that deeper-lying settings need to be explained or adjusted. With only a few minor aspects which under-perform, it's hard to think of ways in which any features could be improved on at this price. Certainly, the LightStream Pro excels in many areas and the projected visuals are so impressive, backed up by an impressive suite of connectivity options, that it is fully deserving of five stars.

Tested this using an Xbox one via HDMI and wow - projectors have come a long way since my school days when they were noisy, washed out and needed countless bulb replacements. The picture quality is absolutely stunning even on default settings - I keep it on Eco mode to preserve the bulb life. 1 bonus is the full HD - there are two HDMI ports on the rear and one hidden behind a cover that I was able to hide my Chromecast in - it even has a USB port for this purpose.Initially I set it up to about 100 inch on a white wall. This started hurting my eyes a bit so I reduced it to 60 on a portable screen.Even then the picture was unreal - gaming was exceptional with no lag at all - playing modern warfare 3 I felt like I was there in the map!Sound quality leaves a little to be desired but that is to be expected with the size of the unit - external speakers are recommended. The fan is noticeable but not overly loud even after hours of constant use.The included remote is incredibly handy and even includes a lazer pointer for use with presentations etc. Setup was incredibly straightforward for novice users but the picture can be customised to your needs, much like a TV set. The same applies for sound but I found the volume options a bit limiting - 1 seems too loud for late night listening.Once the lens is focused and the keystone is set correctly (I had to position the projector in the corner not centre to the screen) the results are stunning. I'm fully satisfied this protector can produce a better picture than a tv can provided the lighting is not overly bright. Sometimes in sunlight (not that we get much) blacks can appear washed out and grey. Included in the box is a vga cable, power cable remote and cable tidy (which was too bulky for me and not required as I only have HDMI and power cables)If you're after bringing your games movies or even just tv shows to life and have enough room on the wall I highly recommend this view sonic its virtually child's play for beginners but has all the advanced features and settings you could wish for.

I bought this unit to watch movies, and after some research I definitely made the right choice. There are cheaper units you can buy but believe me, the image quality just is not the same as this. For one thing - native 1080p is a must, not other units are 720p and scale 1080p down. This unit is 1080p ative and it makes a difference.Second is the stellar contrast ratio of 20,000:1, where darks are very dark and whites are very bright indeed.I noticed no colour banding myself which is great as well. Some people have mentioned the fan noise, which I didnt think was intrusive at all. At normal mode the fan is at its loudest, where the brightness is maxed out and lamp life is at its lowest. You can switch between eco and super eco modes as well, which reduce the brightness slightly but slow the fan down drastically which is great. For movies I use normal mode, sacrificing lamp lide and fan noise for quality. But for watching other things you can switch between eco and super eco modes from the remote, which to slwo down nthe fan and increase lamp life. Finally the sound from the projector - yes, it's not that great but what do you expect from a tiny speaker inside a projector - it would be unfair to knock the unit for its sound; if you buy something like this you really want to get some decent speakers, or hook your souce - be it a computer, playstation etc to some decent speakers. All in all this is a fantastic bit of kit for the money, kudos to Viewsonic for offering a unit like this at this price. A serious bit of kit for the home cinema enthusiast. If like me you're after a decent home cinema projector and are stuck between getting a cheaper unit or shelling out more for one of these -- do the latter! You wont regret it.

This thing has been around for over 3 years, yet still sells loads. Easy to see why.I'm not an expert, just an average tech lover so please keep that in mind as i give my findings.Over the last 2 weeks I've tested a few projectors, all with the aim of bedroom use or occasional front room use.Now this ViewSonic LightStream Pro7827HD has a great sharp and fully adjustable picture out of the box.Very clear and no fuzzy text at all. Sound was loud via the fire stick on even the first volume setting of 1.Menu does seem very dated compared to other projectors, even their own M1 mobile projector.I was able to project this from about 9ft at 120 inches. I've barely made any changes,so props for that. There is adjustment in the image from all corners and angles on this model. Many do not have this level of adjustment at the price.Only downside for me is the fan noise, it's loud. In fairness I do not think there is a silent one on any brand , so my own wish for silent will have to be kept for another day. Once there is audio though It soon gets drowned out.Huge bonus is a side compartment that can hide an amazon firestick and also a usb to power it. Great for me as not hanging out the back.4/5 stars for me. If I had it ceiling mounted and a good sound system I image the 4/5 would become a 5* review.Update 11/04/19Despite giving this 4/5 stars I had to return it due to the loud fans on my unit.

EDIT: 1y3m later still good as new :) seriously best buy everI've had the PJD7720HD Full HD Home Cinema Projector for about 3 weeks now- so far it is amazing (but I'll aim to update my review after 6 months). I was thinking for a long time which projector to pick and at first considered the much more expensive laser projectors. However, I decided to give the ViewSonic a go and this was a very good decision! The projector is very easy to set up. I use it on a cream wall and image looks beautiful even in super eco mode (so I mainly use the super eco mode). Surprisingly, PJD7720HD has also a very good speaker. I was thinking of buying a sound system but with this one I don't really need to.To summarise, the main perks are: very good value for money!, bright with a nice colour range (you can have a good picture quality with ambient light so perfect for casual home cinema), a decent speaker, 3D function (I didn't use it yet), smart design. The things that you might want improved: this projector model doesn't have a short throw function, which is a main minus for me living in a small flat; you can hear the fan (but as soon as you play a movie- you can't really spot it); apart from that -really great experience. I will be revisiting after 6 months to give you an update. Enjoy! :)

Good but may not last. This is the second one I have had in the last 15 months. The first blew up after 15 months use, about 2000 hours. I suspect the power supply or circuit board failed blowing the bulb into shards of glass. The supplier of the first one, Just Projectors, were spectacularly unhelpful and instead tried to sell me an Optima projector which was horrible. I had enormous difficulty in sourcing a native bulb or a bulb and housing complete and after two months I gave up and ordered this one from Amazon. So far very good: good bright picture with great contrast out of the box in the dark or with lights on. Crisp focus. At least this time I have a spare bulb but if it is a component issue the cost of repair is huge, even supposing spares can be found. ViewSonic have a terrible reputation for customer services without any apparent UK base. Very difficult to get a replacement bulb to sit securely in the original housing. I gave up. A bit of advice. Don't bother trying to source bulb/housing from the numerous projector bulb 'specialists' you can find on the internet. Go direct to Aliexpress and one will come direct to you from China.

What with it being the Euros and Olympics this year, I thought I’d finally take the plunge and invest in a projector for my living room. Having done quite a bit of research, I established that an important feature for good colour reproduction is something called rec.709. With this in mind, I narrowed it down to the ViewSonic pro7827 and Benq w2000. The price difference between the 2 was quite surprising (viewsonic being a lot cheaper) for what appeared to be a very similar set of features. Both were recommended on projector-central and having already bought a ViewSonic projector for my office, I thought I would use them again as I’ve had no complaints so far.I have the projector connected to my Sky box & I have not been disappointed as the picture quality is fantastic and the colours are equal to, if not better than my Sony HDTV. A nice additional touch is a hidden HDMI at the front which I use for my wireless streaming dongle.

Using this for home cinema and occasional TV, 6 Nations rugby etc. Very impressed so far. 3D is fantastic, no crosstalk, crisp clean brilliant, Thor Ragnarok, Guardians of the Galaxy 2, flawless. Normal TV great. Shows limitations of the signal used for a lot of cable TV but HD stuff is great. Only tiny thing is the fan is noticeable in quiet bits if you listen for it but not an issue. I have a sizeable AV setup so just turn that up a notch. Inbuilt speaker OK I guess for presentation but get a 5.1/7.1 (or bigger) system round it and it's true home cinema. (A cheap soundbar is never going to do it justice) The great picture and simple setup far outweigh the tiny fan issue, better to cool the lamp anyway.Highly recommend this projector and order with 3D glasses for max benifit.

well i waited to leave this review until i had tried out the 3d feature on this projector , i ordered some of the £35 HI-SHOCK DLP 3d glasses that are for sale on amazon , and i have to say it is by far the best home 3d experience ive ever had , it was amazing and works fantastic , and i had none of the normal eye strain that normally comes with watching 3d films i cannot wait to watch another ,this projector is a very good one on a budget , before this projector i had the EUG 5000 lumans hd projector , it was absolute rubbish , this projector states it is only 3200 lumans but is at the very least double the brightness and the colour is nice and bright and vivid ,i highly recommend this product ,do not waste your money on EUG projectors , the information on them is fake

I have connected this projector to a Nvidia Quadro K5200 (using a displayport to HDMI converter) and I'm surprise to notice that I'm able to push 12bit signal to this projector. (i can see it on Nvidia Control Panel). For testing I'm also using a 10bit test ramp on photoshop which show bending when displayed at 8bit (on the same projector) and absolutely no banding when the signal path is brought back to 12bit settings. To confirm I also have an HP Z27x monitor which has a 10bit panel and the test ramp behave the same. I'm quite impressed that this projector is able to take advantage of 12bit colour per component. Is not a feature that I aspect at this price; amazing

19.12.2018

Bought this as my first projector and this is really good quality, image is grate, of course not as great as a 4k TV but the immersion is totally different.I've used the speaker on the projector for a wild till I bought a THX sound system and this is insane! I do re-discover all the movies I do like in a different way. Much better than cinema, at list you don't have the person who speak, you can drink and eat what do you want..Also good during the day but for sure you don't want to watch any movies with daylight.

Had this projector for some time now and really like it. Only downside is a slightly noisy fan, although you tune this out reasonably quickly. Picture is brilliant and 3d looks amazing.Projecting onto painted wall gives very good results. The major plus for this projector is the different positions you can use it from, e.g. you can project from the side of where you are sitting and still get an excellent picture.Thoroughly recommended.
