I have purchased this for my partner who loves 'real' escape rooms but finds them too expensive. When looking for escape board games I hesitated for a while between Unlock and Exit games. In the end I went for these as it felt like you got more for your money, and I am not disappointed! I am sure the Exit ones are great too but can't compare for now as I've only tried Unlock.I have played all the adventures in this pack with my partner and we fell in love with the game!- The backstories are fun and captivating.- The puzzles are enjoyable. They're not too easy, but not too hard either. On the whole you do have to think which is the point, but you don't have to be someone who adores really complex riddles and puzzles to have fun with these. When you're really stuck you can get clues from the app, which are not too revealing but do help. When you're really REALLY stuck you can get the solution to a particular puzzle so you can move on if you want to (but try not to!). Oh, and you can get penalties if you're wrong.-The diversity of the puzzles is great. Some are codes, some are machines, visual patterns, hidden objects or numbers, assembly of two items together, etc... which means the game does not feel repetitive.- The supporting app is really easy to use and works well. It has just the right amount of features so it's not overwhelming and too smartphone-based.- The presentation is beautiful. Nothing feels cheap, the cards are nice to handle, beautifully printed with nice drawings. Everything is visually appealing, so you're really immersed in the scenario.- The game is actually portable. Even though it comes in a box, each adventure comes in a little deck of cards, which you can easily carry if you want to play somewhere other than your house.- The instructions are very clear, and come with a short little tutorial explaining how to play. This means the game is really easy to learn, and you don't have to read instructions for hours before starting.- One drawback that we have found is that, in this particular pack (Unlock #1), the third adventure divides you into two teams who work separately. As a result, if you had planned to play with only two players, it means you're basically on your own for most of the scenario (one in each team), which is less fun than sharing ideas and working out puzzles together.- It also is quite an investment. The truth is, once you've finished an adventure, you're done. It isn't like other board games which you can play over and over, as with these you'll remember a lot of the solutions and it won't be as fun.Personally I have found this investment to be worth it. Both me and my partner became hooked and will definitely buy other Unlock packs! If you are hesitating, I can honestly say: go for it, it's really fun!

My husband and I both love playing escape rooms that are thematic, a good mix of digital tech and manual hands-on riddle-solving like we are part of the National Treasure movie or living the Sigma Force series of author James Rollins. Such is Unlock!Unlock! has great art, looking at it, it's like the characters and the settings are jumping right out at you. Because the art of each card is a masterpiece, we opted to buy card sleeves for them.Unlock! Escape Adventures (combo 3 games)This particular unlock combo box contains a game where the group would be split! such a wonderful game to test teamwork. I was hesitant that I will like the cartoonish game but it became my favorite - it made me imagine outrageous things to progress into the game! The scientific game was also a brain teaser, it was wonderful!Unlock! 2 Mystery Adventures (combo 3 games)What can we say! These games changed the mechanics without having to change the mechanics itself! A paradox, I know, but all 3 games were so good they blew our minds.Unlock! 3 Secret Adventures (combo 3 games)Again the cartoonish game was, at first thought, would be for kids, as well as the Wizard of Oz themed-game, but heck, they became my favorites - so witty and creative! This also goes for the cowboy game, genius!Unlock! 4 Exotic Adventures (combo 3 games)Great for upto 4 people to really maximize what these games had to offer - each player can be in other places to gather clues *wink* *wink*.One production issue though, the Aladdin-themed cards had some slightly bad printing - just a few mm off.All the Sheherazade's Last Tale cards were not cut properly. This almost made the game unsolvable because certain card corners have chevrons that must align to solve a certain puzzle. Being not properly cut, the chevrons of the puzzle did not align.Overall, with Unlock! you'll feel like you're watching and immersing into different movies/places without having to leave your home.

If you are just getting into escape room board games then you might be struggling at your options to choose from. When reading reviews we found both the Unlock! and Exit games to be the top picks to choose from. But which one to choose first? Well, both are fantastic but they are also surprisingly very different from each other. The great thing about Unlock! is that the theme really makes each scenario feel different, and for me it is the only escape room board game that has successfully managed to incorporate theme into its puzzles so far. The mechanisms in this game are also really clever; as you search the environment you will find different items, each shown on their own item card, and you can combine these cards together (adding their numbers and drawing the corresponding item card number) to create new items, solve problems and open up new areas. The whole game almost felt like an escape the room version of T.I.M.E Stories (another brilliant game by Space Cowboys). The first 2 scenarios can be played solo but the 3rd one requires two people at least, and is definitely the hardest to solve! Unlike the Exit games, where you have to manipulate and destroy materials, Unlock! can be played again and again, so you can either give this to a friend or play it again when your memory of it has faded! If you like theme and you like puzzles, you should definitely pick this up!!

This is a great series, we've enjoyed them quite a bit. Lots of in-depth reviews here so I won't repeat what others have said. However, two important tips for future buyers:- If you haven't tried the series before, Asmodee have a bunch of free (print and play) games on their website so you can try before you buy and see if you like the idea. They aren't as in-depth or as clever as the ones you purchase (they are shorter to play as well) but I would recommend trying it out if you don't mind a bit of printing and gluing. We did that and really enjoyed them so it convinced us to buy a set.- You can play the boxes in any order and don't have to start with box 1. However, if it's your first box, don't start with box 2 (mystery adventures). The second puzzle in box 2 is one of the hardest and least popular in the whole series. Various clues that don't work or are too hard or are badly translated. We found it very frustrating and went online afterwards to find that a lot of people share our opinion, it seems to be universally disliked. It's not representative of the series as a whole.I've spoken to a friend who's played almost the whole series and they recommend boxes 4 and 6 if you're looking for somewhere to start. Or just pick whichever's cheapest that isn't box 2!

Thos game was bought after some inspiring advertising was seen on instagram, before this I hadn't heard of this series.Only played them with my partner and must admit it has given game night some thrill and excitement over the last couple of weeks! The games are so exciting and being challenged against the clock only makes it more exhilarating. Some cons/issues/improvements we would have noticed in the games though, is however the fact that they aren't really relatable. Once you know the solution, it would no longer be fun. We are now left in the predicament that we want to play the final game in the box but dont want to use it too quickly and gave to buy another box so quickly.Second, although it isnt that replayanle, it's a shame you cant save your times etc on the app, so that you could do a time trial or maybe have a household challenge, who can solve it the quickest. Other than sharing to facebook etc, there isnt an easy means to save your stats. All in all, a great set of games for a fantastic evening of fun that all can get involved with, but shame you cant replay them.Maybe sell more single games at a cheaper price and might be more open to the idea of buying more.

I have played the first Unlock! and enjoyed it so was really excited to get this version.Unlock is a card game that is played alongside an app. The cards can be combined to help you to escape from a 'locked room' and codes need to be discovered/broken and then the app used to move you on. We played them all as a family of 6, sometimes 6 is a little too big a number as not everyone gets a look in but it is helpful when you get stuck. The app can give hints if you get stuck and penalties if you make the wrong deductions taking away time which the app tracks. If you run of out time to escape the app starts counting up letting you finish the escape and giving you a rating. I really enjoy these games. The second submarine adventure was my least favourite so far. You start with limited time and have to find extra. We figured out most of the first puzzle but the final word was not an actual English word making it really hard to figure out so we had 'lost' the adventure before we really started which made it less fun, we did finally escape but I was less enamoured of that escape. That said I love Unlock! and would definitely keep buying them in the future. Great family/group fun.

I love these products, they are great fun with friends. Immensely inventive and gripping with a seamless app tie in. However, if you are attempting an escape room from Unlock for the first time, don't pick this one. SPOILER BELOWThis first full length game about werewolves in a black and white movie is very clever, but it throws out all of the colour combination rules that the tutorial and other levels thrive upon, meaning that if you are playing with new people for the first time, it can be quite tough to get their head around! These are brilliant board games though and I would highly recommend to any seasoned puzzle solver.

The demo and first game were pretty good demonstrations of the game mechanics. Sherlock was absolutely brilliant and made us feel like amateur sleuths, worth getting just for that set. Alice was harder but we still managed to get 4 stars and completed it in the allocated time.As a fan of the genre and other logic puzzles I found that it was a good mix and it's a useful route into the games. All, however, have puzzles that take a bit of a stretch (and sometimes an enormous leap) which can be disappointing and unfulfilling.

We are escape room nerds and played a few in a box, this offered the best adventures as far as I'm concerned.Great quality art, prints, offers AR content as well to solve some situations. Great variety! The Sherlock Holmes story made me feel the most engaged with what I feel were the best conceived puzzles. The only problem we had was with the easiest adventure (the videogame) on which we managed to skip ahead a couple steps and then the game wasn't making sense, we had to replay from the start to correct the mistake.

I'm not a big Star Wars fan, but my friend is. He's not a big game person, but I am. This was a great meet in the middle! He enjoyed all the SW aspects (as he knew what the places and things all were and I did not) of the game.It was challenging, fun and was a great way to hang out.The cards are high quality with great illustrations. The pacing and problem solving was great fun!So if you like Star Wars and escape type games, this is great!A tad pricey, but worth the moments and fun it delivered.

23.7.2019

This is a great game for 4 or 6 players and lasts about 45-60 minutes per pack of cards. You get 3 packs of cards in this game and each is a separate puzzle in the form of an escape room. You have to study the cards for clues and hidden objects and work out puzzles and then either entering codes into the app on your phone/tablet or workout how to use the various machines again in the app. The music from the app adds to the tension and gets you into game.Highly recommended!

7.1.2019

These games are great fun. You download an app on your phone to time you, give hints and tell you what clues you've uncovered. 3 of us managed to do all the games in the time limit but the hardest level one was really tough. Would still be fun with up to 6 players, any more and people are going to get bored or clues missed due to too many people sharing cards. You don't destroy the box or cards like some other escape games (eg EXIT) so it's got replay potential too.

20.4.2020

As avid escape room lovers, me and my husband have really enjoyed these escape style games. This comes with 3 separate games to play with different difficulty levels. The first 2 are roughly 60 mins gameplay, the 3rd around 90 minutes so you certainly get your moneys worth.Works alongside an app with a good level of interactivity between the cards and using the app to enter codes etc.Highly recommended :)

28.3.2018

We really enjoyed this. Played with three other adults, but split into two teams because the puzzle cards are quite small so took it in turns. Found some quite challenging and it took a while to get the idea of the game. It was good if a slightly stressful way to spend an hour! Looking forward to getting another one.

7.12.2020

These games are challenging and fun, however one of the games required a very unexpected leap of thought to solve the last puzzle and frankly this would make it impossible to solve for anyone sharing or borrowing the game (I am being vague to avoid spoilers).Other than that it was fun and very well made.
