This is a great game, very straightforward and quite accessible for a wide age group, definitely suitable for families with older children. The majority of the components don't require you to read details which I know is a plus for some people. As far as the gameplay goes it's relatively easy to grasp, you have a starting number of villagers (this number can increase) and you can assign villagers to perform tasks, this includes hunting, gaining building materials, increasing farm size, adding village members, building structures and completing activity cards. As you complete tasks and make buildings you get victory points and the person, after the end game effects occur, with the most points is the winner. The components are of a high quality overall, including: resources made of shaped wood (food & tool tokens are made of card), the buildings and cards are of decent quality with nice artwork, the villagers are shaped so are unique for the game, player boards are clear and suitable to use, 1st player marker (looks odd to me personally but is a nice touch), a leather dice shaker with wooden dice (14mm in size) and the game board is really nice looking too. It's worth noting that each turn you're required to feed your villagers, which I know is a pain for some people, but this is only a issue early on so how you control your resources is important.I'm aware that the price, depending on where you buy, is a little off putting but I've really enjoyed this game and I believe this is a good family game that can be used to play games with people who rarely boardgame.

Absolutely brilliant game. My husband and I love euro boardgames such as Settlers of Catan, Carcassonne and ticket to ride. We are always on the look out for games to play with our kids that are not only fun for the kids but also for ourselves. This game is great as it introduces the idea of collecting the specific resources needed in order to build huts. It also requires you to use your memory, as rather than a dice, you have the circular discs around the board that you flip in order to reveal how many spaces you move or which resource spot you will move directly to. When someone builds a hut the discs all flip back over but largely remain in the same spaces. You can try to use your memory to remember which disc is which,so plan ahead which resources you need. You also get the opportunity to switch a two of the discs around whenever you build, so that can make things tricky for everyone. There is a trading point where you can swap resources and also a wild dog card that can represent any resource you need. It plays really well and we have really enjoyed playing this with the kids (and if I'm honest once or twice without the kids!). Our son who is 5 grasps the concept easily and our 3 year old is able to join in too if we give him help along the way which works really well. A game takes about 15 minutes so spot on for this age group. I would say that this is a great introduction for Euro style games for the kids. It's so lovely to play a game that we can all enjoy.

Great intro to strategy for kids. We already love Carcassonne Junior so this seemed a great idea. We have over 20 board games and I play them often with my now 6 year old as part of his homeschool day. Its amazing what kids learn playing games (pictionary was the catalyst to read, Skipbo for number sequencing, and many others). We received this one (my son actually chose to buy it out of money he earned) just as we were covering nomads and early farmers in our Ancient history text (The Story of the World Volume 1: Ancient Times). The timing was perfect as we had discussions about all the resources. I could tell he was internalizing the information in a way he would not with just the text, workbook, and even a video we had added. Great supplement and fun too! I will say that this game will probably only be fun for a couple of years before he will be ready to play the adult version labled 13 and up. For now we are very pleased. The price was steep for a board game, but it is very high quality and we can sell it when we are done to another homeschool family. Before we ordered it, we watched a great review of the game on the dice towet on you tube so we knew what we were getting.

I like that this game introduces some strategy and is simple enough for the very little children to really grasp and enjoy. I love how the instructions include a story. I think it's a pretty unique game for this age group. Stone Age was one of my favorite games and is one of the games responsible for drawing me into the world of strategy games so I was excited to try this one out with my kids. I don't remember what ages it says it's for, but I would say it's really geared toward ages 4-7, depending on the kid My seven year old likes it but is already capable of much more challenging games. It's a bit too much for my three year old, who will sit and play Candy Land or Sequence Jr or some cooperative games. It's perfect for my five year old. It's a very simple introductory game, which is exactly what I was hoping for. I have a lot of games my seven year old likes that are beyond my five year old's ability to grasp. It doesn't make me cringe when my kids ask me to play with them, like some other preschool games do. But it's also not as fun as, say, Catan Jr, for an adult.

As an avid board gamer I was looking for something that will introduce my young 5 year old into the hobby and this game really fits the bill. Great for kids and adults. The game touches on a lot basic concepts that more advanced games use, like memory, resource management and planning, so it works very well as a "primer" for young children. The rules are fairly simple, setup is fast and the quality of the pieces is very high for this type of game. It might not be the best game for long sessions as young players may get bored after 2 or 3 games but it's a nice game to play if you plan on kicking off an evening of board gaming and move on to something else afterwards. This is one of the few kid's games I've bought that sits on the "adult" game shelf simply because of the fun and quality of the components. I really can't praise that quality enough: wooden "meeples", (very) thick card stock, sturdy box for storage; it's all here. If you have young board gamer's in your family buy this game because it's an excellent "starting point".

Delivery time was longer than expected but the game was in perfect condition and we love playing it, ages 6 up are enjoying it.so far we have played every day! Very well designed game for the family. Keeps you interested and engaged. Highly reccomend it. Price on amazon was better than high street. The pieces in this game are nicely designed and large for small hands. Play time is short around ten minutes. We have added in our own twist where when the build coin is turned over instead of just switching two coins as per the rules we reshuffle all coins so no one has an idea where the build coin is. Love this game, will get adult version at some stage.

This is my preschoolers favorite game. Great introduction to resource management. Nice big manipulatives. He's three and was able to understand how to play before he could put together a full sentence. At the same time I think it's far better than most preschooler games that I usually feel like I have to suffer through. ( I can't stand dexterity games) Big brothers are happy to play it with him when he lets them. Neighbor kids from non-gamer families seem happy with it up to 8 yrs old.

This is a great game to introduce children to a slightly more complicated type of game play. The piece are large and chunky (unlike most resources in adult games). The game play involves remembering where tiles are (great for practicing memory and recall) to flip them over to move to the space to get the resources needed to buy huts.Great gateway game for young children into a more Euro style game.Highly recommended.

We play this on holiday. My sons enjoy this aged 15 and 10. Do you go for tools or simply mass produce commodities to buy buildings! Making babies in the mating hut to grow your number of workers. Thoughtful worker placement. Collect certain cards to gain vital victory points. Multiple strategies to win the game. Takes a few goes to get a firm understanding but well worth the effort if you enjoy your boardgames.

My kids have played twice and we are LOVING the game. I don’t really want to return it but the game box came damaged in one corner like it was dropped. The amazon box it came in was in perfect condition though so this must have happened when it was in a warehouse somewhere. Doesn’t change the game but it’s nice to have something perfect when you order it. I paid a lot of money for it to have a damaged box.

We have the full Stong Age as well and love it. This junior version is equally fun. My 5 year old caught on right away, and the adults enjoy it just as much. We did make one modification. Everyone remembered where the "build" token was placed and tracked it even when moved according to the game rules. Instead, we now shuffle all action tokens after someone builds to make the game more challenging/fun.

We brought my daughter a few board games for her 4th birthday and she latched onto this one (over Gruffalo and Going on a bear hunt). She loves the memory aspect of finding the places to go and collecting all the resources to build houses. The chunky realness of the wooden counters and having your own village stand. We have had this a month and she wants to play it everyday (more than use her ipad).

My 5 year old loves this game she was able to understand it I liked the story it came with. I like how it teaches you have to save up to get something bigger and how you have to plan on what you need. We did change some of the rolls around to make it work for my family when you flip the tiles you mix and move them all. And you're able to turn in your resources and get your Hut on your next turn.

Purchased this for grandchildren ages 7 and 9. Even the 4 year-old could play if teamed up with grandma or grandpa. We enjoyed multiple games over the Christmas holidays. Games last 15-30 minutes with no one getting bored. Players can learn strategy for acquiring the items necessary to build a settlement. There is also a memory game component. Fun for kids and adults!

This game is very well made, wooden resources, high quality board, etc. It took us about 90mins to play with three players (one aged 7). The game is well balnced and you are never quite sure who is going to win until final points counting at the end. The resource building is good fun and no one is "out" or obviously losing. Also good with 2 players.
