I first played this at a friends house and decided to buy it for my family. The premise is three sets of cards, "who am I", "what am I" and "where am I". You take turns reading out clue cards which are determined using a die and then who gets the right answer first rolls the number die and moves around the board. You get a bonus "Hard Ass" turn when you land on these squares.Clues are along the lines;I was born on April ** 19**I am from **** USAI am an actorI first starred in the movie ****I won the best actor oscar in 19***I was famously married to ****I have the initials *.*.A good range of questions, some quite American, but still really good if you have a broad general knowledge, even the hard ones end with deveral clues and then initials so I haven't had one yet that someone didn't get. If you shout out the wrong answer you can't shout again, so really funny if you are being smug! The most american one that has come up has been about American people, such as Michael Jordan. The only downside I really found was that the board is really short, so the game can be over really quickly. We sometimes play around the board a few times if someone wins too quickly, but its better to decide this up front so it doesn't lead to arguments when someone is on the finish line. Another way to draw it out is to make the finish require an exact score (which it doesn't in the official rules.)I haven't played this with younger players, but would imagine the "what am I" cards are much easier for them than the geography or person ones so would probably omit these cards from the games. It really fun for an older family with teens as questions vary hugely so everyone gets a chance to show off random knowledge! It can also be adapted easily depending on youf group needs so I think 4/5 is a fair score.

I just purchased this game and have introduced it to English-learning students at all levels of group courses. It isn't as much a vocabulary-building tool as some other games, but it really helps the students to hear and speak the "melody" (rhythm, syntax, sentence structure) of English. The 10 hints which must be read out loud might have some difficult or unknown words, but even my lower-level students could understand most of the hints simply from the context. The last hint is always a sentence with gives at least the first alphabetic initial of the person, place, or thing to the questions of "What am I?", "Where am I?", or "Who am I" This is really clever, because even if students haven't understood every single word or even every hint, they have understood enough to make an educated guess. Making students feel confident and successful in their learning is always a good idea. Get this game! The quality is really not good. The cards are ultra-thin and not well laminated. A drop or two of spilled water on a stack of cards could spell disaster. The board markers are made of tall thin cardboard figures which can be slotted into tiny plastic coloured bases. Students sometimes pound the pieces as they count the numbers of spaces they are moving forward on the gameboard, so the markers are really vulnerable to being bent or broken in half by overzealous players. Unfortunately, you need the markers so that you can lay them on their sides when players lose their turn by guessing incorrectly or landing on the "Dumbass" spaces on the gameboard. My suggestion: buy a laminator and laminate the paper cut-outs so that they can't bend and keep the cards dry.

We got this game for Christmas a few years ago, and it's been our most played board game since. It says it's for 2-8 players and for age 12+, but actually if you form teams you can add more, and the youngest player we've had was 6 (admittedly she was on a team with adults!) so it's a flexible game. Nobody gets bored because nobody has to wait their turn, so it's a good game for large groups of less-than-sober people who may have a limited attention span for more convoluted board games, and it doesn't bring out the argumentative side of people like some better-known games do. The rules are simple and it's easy to play, yet it has that pub-quiz type element of general knowledge that presents a challenge, and so it appeals to a broad range of players. Another bonus is that every now and again there are clues that are worded in such a way that, if you have a slightly warped sense of humour, can be hilarious! If we lost it I would buy it again, and I would definitely give it as a gift. Well worth the momey.

This is a really easy game to get to grips with... with three categories 'who am i' 'where am i' and 'what am i' anyone could have a crack at these questions. Some are really difficult but it is a 'use your common sense' type of game. One of these reviews slates this board game because they didnt use their common sense. They slag the game off for not being child friendly!?! As the title is a play on words, of course its not a childs game. It is rated for 15 Y.O.+ and that is probably accurate. Most 15 Y.O's could answer some of these questions. The board is big and colourful and what makes this game so great is the speed. You answer questions quickly and move around the board quickly...but the game does take some time to complete due to it's trick squares that 'mix the game up' a bit. We play a lot of different board games and this is an easy one... especially for large gatherings.Excellent game. good fun. not be taken too seriously!

"Smart Ass" is, arguably, one of the most basic games you can buy these days - but the best thing is, it's still fun to play. The difference with this game is that there is no need to fumble around with pages of instructions and rules, or variations of rules - all they have to provide you with is one slip of paper and you're away. It's basically a trivia game - all the family can play, and there is the all-important element of 'all play'- having more than one person looking for the same answer. And it really is good fun for everyone. The only drawback i can see is that some of the questions, especially the 'Who am I' questions are much more suited to an American audience - some questions even adults won't be able to get. However, spending an hour or so replacing them with easier ones made up by yourself could solve this issue and produce a better game experience.Overall, a high-rated game that's great fun and original.

We got this as our new family board game for Christmas. It had to appeal to an 11 year old all the way up to an 85 year old. And it did. As a family we love quizzes and this was an interesting take on the same format. Everyone heres the question in the form of ever more obvious (or are they) statements, with "Smart Ass's" shouting out the answer to early and leaving the more conservative with a chance of winning. We played it about ten times on xmas day and rarely had the same winner.I'd say ten is the lower age limit - the good thing is that as no one is asked a direct question there isn't the embarrassment factor as with some games. We took turns being the "question Reader" and that ensured all got in on the fun too.We loved it and have played it a lot since. If you have an outgoing family or friendship group that likes quizzes then you can't miss with this one.Steev

I bought this for my annual Christmas In July party. Myself and a group of friends regularly get together to play these type of board games. There were 8 players with ages ranging from 22 to 51.After about a five minute read-through of the instructions, we were ready to play. Categories include 'What am I?', 'Who am I?' and 'Where am I?'. Player one starts reading out the clues and then it's a free-for-all as everyone shouts out their answers! As I soon discovered, shouting out too quickly wasn't the wisest move! The game is so easy and yet so addictive! We played as individuals but I think it would be just as much fun in teams, especially when one of your over-zealous team-mates shouts out the wrong answer! We love to shout and make a lot of noise when playing board games so this was perfect for us!

The best thing about this game is that you don't have to wait around and take turns which lets face it can get boring! In this game you take in turns to move around the board and be in charge of reading the cards. Each card has a category and then has statements/clues which can help you to get the answer. The reader reads down the card and anyone can shout out the answer as soon as they think they know it. If you shout out the wrong answer you are locked out of trying again, wait too long to answer and someone could beat you to it.This was fantastic fun for our family (all 18+) but some of the questions I found hard because the people questions were more for an older generation or had anAmerican link.Still this game is fun and I would definaitely play it again.

I noticed that one of the reviews for this suggested that this game isn't suitable for young children.. recommended age is 12+!I played this game with friends and family (kids aging from 11 upwards) and we all had a lot of fun. Obviously the younger members of the family were less able to answer SOME of the questions, they did better in the "what I am?" category.Very straight forward game. Categories, "where am i?" "what am i?" "who am i?" where you are given around 8 hints (the last of them being initials) guess correctly, move around the board. 2 dice, one coloured (to select category) and one numbered (to move around the board).

We bought a number of these at Christmas and gave them as gifts. It's a fun game and in teams (couples) it can be funny. Only thing, we found ourselves having to skip cards because we admitted that we had already played that card. Needs refills because once you go thru the deck, unless you are playing constantly with the same peeps and everyone agrees... it's kind of cheating when you know the answer from playing the game at another time. At least that's how we felt :)

Bought this game to play after Christmas Dinner, and it didn’t disappoint any of us.We haven’t laughed so much and is a fantastic game where the whole family get involved to be the smartest, (I obviously one the first round) lol.The rules are very simple and will keep you entertained for hours. We played with 8 of us age range 16 to 51yrs and was hilarious.I can’t wait to get this game out again soon it’s so fun to play.

An excellent game especially for teens who can do well on the celebrity and sport questions. Simple rules so no arguing, range of questions on a variety of topics, and a fun element of luck. Only downside is that if you play a lot (which we did over Xmas) you run out of questions, so it would be nice to be able to buy more question cards. Highly recommended.

We had a wide age group in the family but the whole family were able to take part. You didn't have to be brainy, we all had a laugh and enjoyed the questions. We always play games when we get together and this will definitely be a favourite. Recommended to us by another relative who had played it with their friends and said how much fun they had.

Bought to play Christmas day, really easy to set up and follow and a fun game that doesn't go on and on for hours. Wish I'd read the description propely regarding it being 12yrs+ as some of the questions are quite difficult. Lots of cards so it hasn't started repeating as quickly as other games. Add on packs for children would be perfect.

31.1.2011

Quite simply this would be 5 stars except for one flaw - it is an American game and as such far too many of the questions are American.Probably 30% of the "Where am I?" questions begin "I am a US City" or "I am a US state".If you can put up with these questions, skip them or just remove them from the deck then this is a real winner.
