I'm giving this 4 stars but am unsure whether I should really give it 3. I'm using it (a tough test I think) with the Sigma 180mm macro (which means manual focus all the time, and I find that quite hard on the camera I use - Canon MkII). I've used it for a month or so now - need to photograph birds for a book we're writing, and can't afford an 'L' long-focal-distance lens - and sometimes I get very nice results. More often I have problems with the focus. So...if you can manage to take loads of shots of the subject, adjusting the focus each time, you may get a really great shot, and of course on the MkII I'm getting 360mm focal length, BUT I do find the focus is a real bug-bear,even after lots of practice. If you have a longish focal length lens of good quality and really need to double it, AND if like me you don't have the money to buy a long focal length prime, then this is a cheap enough option. AND it has the possibility of good-quality images. But it depends on your ability to focus well manually.Oh, and I tend to use a small aperture - around f/18 or smaller - to maximise the chance that I'll have the subject in focus. That means I miss out on the lens/converter's 'sweet-spot' of f/5.6-f/8; and it means I use a high ISO to get a decent shutter speed for a moving object. The MkII's high-ISO performance isn't as good as I'd like it to be. And I don't find the MkII's manual focusing as great as it might be, when I compare it to the manual focus assist I get using my Fujifilm X100T (which unfortunately has a fixed 35mm-equiv lens, albeit a wonderful one.Together with the Sigma 180mm and the MkII, it's damned big, and heeeeavy for a long field trip!So...you pays your money and you takes your chance, realising that it's a sub-optimal solution. But if like me you're a pauper, what do you do otherwise?

Very pleased with the results. used with a Sigma 150/500 zoom on a Canon eos 450d it gave good sharp results. I then added aSigma 1.4 converter, giving me an increase of 3.4 and again a good sharp acceptable result . the camera was more than capable ofovercoming any light loss

Gives me that extra reach when required. IQ not noticeably effected so that is a big plus point for me.Si
