This is a fantastic pen with a 0.4 tip that writes 0.2. The ink is black and very smooth. It dries relatively quickly, even on stone paper. My only gripe is that it smudges if you highlight over it, even after hours of drying which is a major shame, otherwise it would be a 5 star. It is however, still a fine writing instrument and I highly recommend this pen if you like me, tend to pay more attention to your handwriting with a finer tip. To overcome the highlight smudging, there is the Pilot Hi-Tec-G which looks almost identical to this pen - but if you just want to practice hand lettering, give it a go.

Smooth, not scratchy. VERY fine tip. Great for daily use in journal and diary.
