I’ve invested in many gel pens because I have a book with black paper and I’ve wanted to use it for a while, but not use a metallic gel pen. Unfortunately, the only gel pens I could find that would work on black paper was inevitably gold, silver, or something similar. I actually reached a point where I was ready to give up and just invest a set of metallic gel pens. But I stumbled upon these and figured I wouldn’t give up just yet. Then I set them on a shelf and ignored them. I think it was because I didn’t want to be disappointed, after so many attempts to find just the right pens.Long story short, I finally opened these up and tested them on the sample sheet I had at the back of the book and wow!I love them. They really stand out and don’t look muddy at all. They do, however, take a moment or two to dry. Bear that in mind before you turn the page or slide your hand across the page for any reason. Which is why I can’t give these 5 stars. I love them but there is a slight smudging issue. I’m still using them, but I’m using them with care.

This is a set of 4 gel pens that can be used on either dark or light paper. The pens come with transparent barrels so you can see the amount of ink remaining. The transparent caps have pocket clips. The Pentel logo and product name appear on the side of the barrel. These are really cool pens for writing on surfaces that aren’t white. Yes, the colored ink pens work fine on white paper, too. But these pens also work on colored paper or black paper, providing even thick bright colors, regardless of the background. I often make limited edition prints of my art work by photocopying my drawings, then making individual edits on each copy. These pens are great for this purpose—I can draw with them right on the glossy photocopy prints, and the ink doesn’t smear. I’ve also tried sketching with them on black paper—really cool! All in all, this is a wild set of pens that really opens up some creative possibilities. The inks are bright and consistent, they flow smoothly, and the pens are comfortable in the hand.

These pens write very smooth and evenly. I love the writing feel and I anticipated using them for a journal. However, the colors are florescent and have very low contrast on white or brightly colored paper. All but the white ink are visible on light paper but bright to the point of being somewhat hard to read compared to regular color ink. The white ink is completely invisible on white paper. The contrast for all colors, especially white, is much better on dark paper. I like the feel but outside of arts and crafts, I can't really see a fit for these unless someone regularly writes on dark colored paper. I see there are three options for these pens: Milky Pop (these), Solar Pop and Sparkle Pop.The Solar and Sparkle Pop pens seem much more suitable for white or light color paper.

These are listed as pastel. They're a weird sort of pastel neon, if that's even possible? On the darker papers they do look a little more on the pastel side, but on lighter paper they're closer to a neon (except the white of course).I did a quick little doodle on black paper to show off all 4 pens, then on the white paper I showed off the blue, pink, and orange. White obviously isn't great on white paper, so I did a few dots of white in the hearts and a line down the block of color. The white also works really good on my toned tan notebook. The only reason I gave them 4 instead of 5 is they are occasionally a little streaky. That didn't bother me with the colors but with the white it was rather noticeable.

Love the pens. They are typical gel pens. I did try on a dark surface and the colors did pop out. I especially like the video included on Amazon. I know this has little to do with the product but speaks to a company dedicated to being artistic. I will look for more of their products. (Who thought to put Grandma on the cell phone and the kid with the old notebook LOL, and I love the 'family' feeling the video promotes. Maybe let your kids watch it and then give them a set of pens???)There is so little art promoted to our children these days. Try these for kids of all ages, a stocking stuffer gift, birthday bundle gift etc.We need kids to do art and these pens will motivate them to explore their creativity.

These Milky Pop variety look very muted on white paper. But if you are writing on dark paper, it does look bright and shows up great. My girls had some black and grey paper. They used these to send their friend letters full of doodles. They thought writing on dark paper was really cool.I'm not sure if these have as much use as regular gel pens, but if you want to scrapbook on dark paper or have other reasons to write on dark, I think these are really nice! They do take a second to dry, but I don't think any longer than other gel pens.

These medium tip 8mm pens are perfect for darker colored notecards that make it difficult to read a black or blue pen. The ink is pastel but still bright and easy to see even on white paper, with the exception of the white pen. The ink however, is visible on any colored paper with the exception of if the paper is the color of the ink of course. I have several boxes of notecards that I keep in my office to write encouraging notes and thank you notes to the staff I work with. These pens are the perfect partners to colored notecards!

This set of four milky gel pens have the distinctive look of chalk on a sidewalk or blackboard. They have a .8mm medium point and the pens write smoothly. The pen caps snap securely in place which reduces the chances of ink drying-out prematurely. The caps also have a pocket clip and the barrels have a latex-free rubbery grip for comfort during use. The four vivid ink colors in this set are pink, orange, blue and white. Excellent for penning notes that pop or doodling vibrantly.

I guess I'm gonna say I love these. I have the 4-pen set of Milky Pop pastel gel pens, one blue, one white, one pink and one orange. They are usable on dark and light paper, except, of course, for the white pen, which, for obvious reasons, only shows up on dark backgrounds. The ink goes on smoothly and whatever you write or draw does seem to pop on the page. I want more of these. Have to get me all the colors. I just know the grandkids will try to get these away from me.

I love to embellish store bought cards, as well as cards I've made from scratch. These pens from Pentel are simply glorious for adding emphasis and big bangs of color. They are so much more than simple color. They're FLASH! The ink is thick and shiny, like writing or coloring with glitter. Even the pastel colors pack a wallop and jumped from the paper. My only caution is to give the ink adequate drying time, just a couple minutes. Love!

The colors do "pop" well on dark paper, and fairly well on white paper too. The ink is like thin paint, has a little shine and thickness, especially the white, which looks different at different angles. They take from a few to numerous seconds to dry, depending on the amount of ink laid down, so they can smear.Fun to write with on most paper, though they sometimes struggle on slick paper.

So when they say these pens write on dark or like paper, the don’t mean use can use the white on white paper…it will be invisible. As long as you use paper colored to go with the color pen, you won’t be disappointed in these pens. They glide easily and leave behind a velvety smooth ink in your choice of pale blue, white, pink or orange, all with a slight neon look to them.

I've always enjoyed Pentel pens and requested them at my workplace. The milky pop pens are pretty neat to use on dark paper (definitely for the white one.) The pink, blue and orange gel pens can be seen on white paper too. I'm sure my artist son will love using these. The Pentel brand is great and this addition adds to it. Fun for doodling for me! Recommended.

I love these to outline my pictures I color or to add effect to the lettering on the coloring pages. They will work on any color paper but give a neater look on darker paper or darker coloring. The white does add a cool effect when doing a coloring picture that has snow. The ink dries quickly and doesn't easily smear. They write and draw smoothly.

This is a fun set that writes on both white and darker colored paper. My office mates and I have been using these all week and are really enjoying them. I think these would make a fun back to school gift or a little surprise to the budding artist in your life. Great for just everyday or for art projects. I hope they last awhile!
