Worth the extra money to get this model if you think you’ll get it in the water. Especially saltwater. I use mine on the jetty rocks and wading in surf. It’s gotten dunked in ocean while I was grabbing fish. I open it up every few trips (easy to do). Never seen water or salt deposits. grease it up real good while you’re in there and you’ll never have an issue.O-ring material seals are throughout reel. good for kayak, jet-ski, or surf/rock/inlet fishing.Gotta love the handle too! It comes with a soft rubber one also. Easy to change. No auto-bail bar return. Once you cast, you have to flip the nail with your hand. Reeling the handle won’t flip it.Awesome reel.Worth this price if you have the need for a sealed body.Little extra bonus is that it uses the same drag system as the Penn International reels.

I bought this 3500 reel. I received an email urging me to cancel the order or change the product when the estimated shipping date is reached, because the product is out of stock. However, the 3500 continues to be sold, saying that it is out of stock. If you think it disappeared from the list once, it might be displayed again and arrived? I was waiting for the arrival, so when I contacted you to send it when it arrived, I thought that the same email as above was sent again, so I canceled the order without permission. And if you write a low-rated review, it will not be published, it has been massaged. Perhaps this review may not appear, but please be careful if you are thinking of purchasing!!

having been lucky enough that my wife won a 7500 slammer 3, I loaded it up with Hercules braid line with a shock leader.this reel is 100% fantastic.I fish on the severn estuary witch is the second fastest tidal water in the world, and this reel handles it like a walk in the park.have caught cod ,congers, rays, and this reel keeps coming back for more.build quality is unmatched, as well as oozing style.when using braid wind on mono line first as backing and wind braid on with a bit of resistance on line.once done, it will cast great.highly recommend anyone purchasing one of these.you wont stop grinning.

Shipping was a tad long but most likely because I was counting the minutes I could go out and hook into a nice sized BC Westcoast Chinook. Well, I got my chance just this morning. I hooked several with the new Penn 3500 Slammer. I wanted the smallest version because I consider hooking and landing BIG fish in the 30 plus and up sizes! 20 lb braid- 30 lb Chinook, what more can I say, the reel is quality, heavy but I like that when I play my fish, like something to really grab when the drag starts peeling out 50 yard runs!

In the past I've had Shimano Stella's, Daiwa Saltiga's Accurate twin spins and almost everything else out there. I have 3 of these Penn slammer reels, a 5500, 6500 and an 8500 high speed. I've had shark to 100lb on thr 5500 without a murmur and big amberjack in the 70lb range where the drag has needed to be 1st class. These reels are up to absolutely anything thrown. Go onto YouTube where you can see people catching marlin on this model. They are without doubt the best reel under £500.

I purchased thie Penn Slammer 3 4500 reel a couple weeks ago and took it out to the flats in Bayside, TX. I was fishing for red drum and black drum. The fish were biting and I must have caught at least 12 reds and 30 black drum. The reel casts flawlessly. What I liked most was listening to that drag sing. Those reds all in the 23- 27 inch range sure can put up a fight. This reel is awesome. I am totally satisfied. Can’t wait until next week to go out again.

Have had it for about 6 months have caught both of my personal best, largest yellowtail ever. Drag is insane, super fast retrieval paired with cedros jigging rod, it's the iron/jig machine. 65lb power pro and 40lb flouro leader is my go to. It has randomly scratched pretty easily but function is rock solid. We will see how it does with corrosion over time. I bought mine on a nice discount so it really has been an unbelievable value reel.

8500 is big, but not as heavy as i thought it would be. Smooth as butter, and reels in fast (i got the HS). Drag is super easy to set and has a good range. paired this up with an 8 foot mojo salt spinning rod. 8500 is probably overkill unless your going for tuna, swordfish, or something of the size/strength, but i've used this for seabass, blues, & blackfish and i'm fine with it. this is a serious reel, best i've ever owned.

Got into a sturgeon the first time out with it it made quick work of the fish it was 45 inches so it wasnt small it reels smooth and I didnt even have the drag set past three quarters great reel for the money I will definitely be using PENN reels from now on I also have the battle 7500 it's a great reel for half the price and I also got the fierce 8000 another quality reel for a great value under 100 bucks

Reel arrived within 2 days. Packaged exactly as if walked in store to buy. Opened up to find it was well greased and ready to go right out of the box. Everything was as expected, nice quality built reel. Heavy at almost 15oz for a 4500 reel but it's a Penn Slammer 3. Happy and excited to have added this to my collection of Penn's. Thanks to Amazon and Penn for making this product obtainable.

In all the years fishing i have never seen a manual bail that was my only set back so i returned it only to get back the same thing again my bad.Found out this after the fact its a great reel but be aware that its a manual bail does NOT automatically bail back other wise great reel great price since it was marked down just an amazing reel if you can deal with the manual bail.

Small but super powerful my co-fishers say it wont be able to handle a 50 lb yellow tail , I think it will recently ive been surf fishing and submerged it in salt water halibut casting , over and over getting hit with waves in the surf , I wash it off blow dry it and wd 40 it no problems so far so yea id say its a dam good reel .

Had a penn slammer from the early 80’s , which was awesome and still kicking till stolen , replaced with the 4500 slammer III, same quality and ruggedness that you would expect from Penn, I love 9n the fla keys and is used quite frequently, so far so good, would recommend and hopefully will never have to replace

I have fished these two reels head to head for over 2 years. The Penn is far better than the Shimano Stradic as far as construction and durability. This reel will not let you down. It has been in the mud, immersed in saltwater many a time and is as smooth as the day it came out of the box. Worth the money

I bought this right before the fishing season and I'm glad I did. This reel can bring in the big ones. I caught a 20lbs yellowtail and I thought it was a small fish because the reel had no problem bringing it in. I'm buying two more for myself at Christmas time. My present for next season.
