Im sure most experienced fishers know about Penn, but its a great product. You get what you pay for, and Penn isnt exactly cheap, but for what you're getting, its amazing. I got the 3000 series, which is a little bulkier, but I need it to be. I surf fish so I need it to be able to handle big fish, which is the only reason I didnt give it 5 stars on weight. Its the only 3000 series I own, so I dont know how lightweight it is compared to other brands, but its got some weight to it. Its not a problem at all though, considering the lightest weight I use on the line is 5oz, plus 20lb braided line, and multiple pieces of bait. You cant go wrong with Penn if you want to pay for it.

I got a pair of these reels for my parents who live on the water in FL and just like to fish off the doc with live shrimp. They are light and get the job done. I would say some of the parts on the reel need to be maintained more than higher end reels but for half the cost, still a great value. The reels still work but you can see they are starting to corrode as a result of the salt water/air and not being cleaned and oiled. However, this is to be expected with any reel not maintained in a saltwater environment.The drag has held up as expected to some nice reds and bonnet head sharks at the 3000 series.

between Pursuit II &III is not much different, both you will be give the Satisfaction either in fresh water or saltwater.I use it all year around, I literally abuse them.for family generation we are huge fan of peen Product specially on the tropics, we use then on offshore or inshore all rounder is very popular.like my self, I use this saltwater reel on the Great Lakes fishing for steelhead, salmon, trout, walley and much more...this small reel will provide you access to a larger class of fish, just ensure you provided a excellent light class of line,Outstanding modern technology for this reels.

Thing is pretty bad arse for the price. Penn name doesn't leave anything to be desired with this reel. I see charter fishing boats using as their rentals so I knew they must be workhorses. I picked up the 4000 and 5000, big size difference between the two. I chose the 5000 as I figured it would be more versatile in targeted fish species and held more line as well. There is also a noticeable difference in weight as well, if your looking for a super lightweight set up, go with the 4000. I got the 5000 on an tiger ugly stick, wicked set up, slaying some big fish soon I hope. 300 yards of 50#braid

Caught this little gem on a lightning deal and couldn't be happier. Put some line on it and went to the lake the next weekend, and didn't want to put down. Best spinner I've owned in 25 years, and probably won't buy anything else from now on. Came with multiple bushings to get your line the right placement on the spool. Spool also has a rubber ring in the middle to grip the line so it doesn't slip. I've had that happen with some braid after it gets wet, but not with this. Cast great then retrieves fast, and smooth. Great buy!

Wow super pleased with these reels. I bought the 3000 a few weeks ago and I’m amazed at how solid and smooth these are! I ordered the wife a 2500 because I was so impressed. I use the 3000 on a medium action 6.6 rod for fresh water fishing. I’ve pulled in a few large mouth bass and pickerel with ease! I would imagine trout wouldn’t be much fun as I would have the thing skipping along the top of the water. We fish a lot and with a lot of people who spend $$$$$ and I can honestly say for 30-50 buck these are pretty amazing!

Ordered before vacation and was here when l got home. l always considered Penn some of the best gear. Seems like a lot of real for the money, smooth as a baby's butt. l spooled it up with some 16' lb. test mono. While showing a friend we took off the spool and was shocked to find a small amount of sand inside, l don't know how it got there, maybe l got a used reel. l hear no grinding or see damage so l plan on keeping it and hope to some day catch a big enough fish to challenge both me and the reel

Have a 5000 version of this reel was looking to upgrade another rod read specs figured let’s get the biggest and baddest so I ordered the 8000 well it arrives and I must let y’all know unless you plan on fishing for 100# plus fish don’t buy this one it is a very large reel made for fishing large game fish my mistake I will keep for when I go out in gulf fishing but really wanted it for local catfishing so I ordered the 3000 and 6000 love penn reels won’t buy any other

I love this reel because it is so smooth when you use it. It is my first Penn reel and I will likely continue to purchase the Penn products. I got this reel for my wife's birthday - we do a lot of surf fishing and this reel easily held 150 yards of 20# braided line. This reel is so smooth casting and reeling in - when you have a fish on it allows you to easily manage the drag on the reel. A great beginner reel for fishing and not complicated at all.

Has held up to a few fishing trips, definitely robust and has a great action. Little on the heavy side for a 2500 size reel but I will definitely get a few years out of it.I would buy this for kids/drunk adults. Just enough reel to last but not to expensive to get dropped on a rock.Bought a Fierce 3 just a week ago because I needed another reel asap and Pursuit 3 were out of stock locally. Would much rather have save $30 and got the pursuit!

I think this has been the best spinning reel for under $50 I have ever bought. Loved it so much I bought a 2nd one. It's casting is so smooth and great for a long cast. Feels well made and sturdy not cheap made. This is the 1st Penn I have ever used. I have one on a 7' medium rod with braid and the other is a 6' medium with mono. Great for pond fishing or lake. Zero issues out of either reel. I'm going to buy a couple more for my kids.

dear Anglers! Why I using PENN reels? When I was 6yr kid, always I been going with my dad for fishing, white fishes/predators. I remember when my uncle from USA sent to my father a lot of lures,and also PENN reel,it was 20yr ago. You could think I lieing,but truth is ,that hes still using this reel and is on excellent condition. I using my PN5000 for 1yr and is amazing. BEST REEL COMPANY on the world,it's just my opinion. That's all I use on my kayak anymore. They're 40 bucks and they're very reliable. Just spray them off lightly when done. I had one submerged for a couple minutes because it fell off my kayak while I was fighting this red. I thought it was going to be done before. Works perfect. I catch snook ,trout and reddrum on the 2500 All the time. Even got a 25 lb tarpon on it last year. I like how light it is because I throw lures a lot.

I own 2 of these reels and they are really good. They are easy to clean and you can get parts for them. I use one almost everyday fishing my pond and I also use one in saltwater. I dropped one in saltwater and had to disassemble and clean. Installed a new clutch bearing it it works like brand new. Like I said you cant beat them for the price. Keep them greased and clean they will last a long time.

Every size of this reel are awesome in their own right. You can go fresh artifical throws for bass , trout season as well if you're keen on the 2500 with 6 to 8 lb flouro ..I use my 4000 with 14lb flouro and my 3000 with 15 lb braid . Both the larger variety have handled salt for the past year no issues..probably about 50 trips in to give perspective . Still strong smooth. They feel well built too
