Parker Sonnet Chiselled Silver Gold Plated Trim Roller Ball Fine Nib=== OVERALL ===The Parker Sonnet roller ball pen is a beautifully-crafted, substantial pen that's a delight to write with. The pen feels good in my hand - comfortable and well-balanced - with no hand-fatigue on writing. It writes smoothly and precisely with bold ink that doesn’t smudge or bleed. The cap can be pushed securely onto the end of the pen. Overall, a lovely pen.=== THE PEN IN MORE DETAIL ===The pen comprises 3 parts that fit together, namely the gold-plated tip and chiselled silver barrel which screw together, and the cap. The metal tip is a comfortable width to grip. The cap has a substantial clip on the side with the distinctive Parker arrows and pushes securely over the tip or on the end of the barrel. The pen comes with one Parker rollerball refill in fine/0.5 and black ink. These are the standard refills widely available online and from stationers for a few pounds and which also come in blue ink and in a medium size. To insert the refill, simply take the long cap off the refill to expose the writing tip, unscrew the barrel, pop in the refill and screw the barrel back on. There are no springs or mechanisms to worry about. The entire pen - shaft, lid, refill - weighs 39g according to my kitchen scales. This means the pen feels good in the hand without feeling too heavy.=== PACKAGING & PRICE ===The pen comes in a substantial presentation case (17.5 x 8 x 4 cm) finished in grey linen-effect cloth with a Parker logo on top. The box closes magnetically and there's a ribbon loop with which to open it. Opening the box, there's a presentation sheet with detail about the Sonnet pen in gold writing on a hatched grey design. Underneath is a double compartment, one on top of the other, the top compartment containing the pen and the lower one containing the rollerball refill and instruction leaflet. All the parts of the presentation box fit together beautifully and are finished to a high standard.RRP £250 at the time of writing this review, for sale at that price. At this price point, Parker is competing with other high-end executive pen brands such as Montblanc, Caran d’Ache, Graf von Faber-Castell, Pelikan, Montegrappa, Porsche, Visconti and Chopard. The Parker Sonnet comes in a number of finishes and price points.=== NIGGLES ===The one niggle is the instruction leaflet – which is very stylish – is printed in tiny text with very tiny diagrams. Given the size of the presentation box, the booklet could’ve been bigger (though it does fit into a special narrow slot inside the presentation box). The leaflet covers several types of pens (fountain pens filled with bottled ink or cartridges, ballpoint pens, roller balls and Parker 5th) and as well as several different models (Duofold, Parker Premier, Sonnet, Parker Ingenuity, Urban, Parker IM and Jotter). The instruction leaflet contains a warranty but the writing is so small and dense I haven’t been able to read it.=== IN THE BOX ===Presentation case, pen, refill and instruction leaflet containing guarantee.

What a beautiful pen! The very attractive gift box, gold-printed with the Parker logo, is covered in a sophisticated grey linen and has a magnetic catch. The neat size of the box and its easy open/easy close fastening makes it a joy to give or to receive. It is practical to use the gift box as storage if the pen is to be kept as a desk pen. The opening of the box to remove the pen gives a special moment that makes the act of handwriting a pleasure. Inside the box, apart from of course the pen itself, is one, fine (0.5mm), black roller ball cartridge and multi-language instruction booklet. (The pen is not loaded with a cartridge; you have to load the one supplied.)The pen is further protected by a die-cut,stiffened romance sheet with an intriguing, embossed suede-like finish that invites the hand and enhances this elegant and discreet packaging. Handy loops of grey grosgrain ribbon make removing the pen from its cradle easy and pleasant. The glossy black lacquer finish is immaculate. The pen is beautifully weighted with a heavy cap that has a reassuringly firm click on/off. It feels very good in the hand and is comfortable to write with, either with the cap fully removed or fitted onto the end of the barrel. The ink glides out without splutter or blob and writing become an indulgent pleasure.I love it.

This is a really nice pen. The chequered silver pattern is quite grippy and it looks very smart, with the rose gold accents making it look even posher. It comes with a fine black ink which writes smoothly and the grip part is also rose gold. The pen is kind of medium thickness, not slim, but not chunky either.I like the fact that there's no springs involved, so less things to break down. To write, you simply take off the cap and shove it on the end, no pressing buttons involved. I've often found that spring pens break down more often or you lose parts when changing inks. This simplicity makes changing the inks very easy, especially if you like to change colours frequently. The only downside to that for me is that I haven't seen any red refills yet, although maybe I haven't looked hard enough. When I used this in the office, people noticed the pen and all agreed that it looked very smart, but at this price, you'd hope for that anyway.

It's been a long time since I used anything but a disposable pen; certainly I've no inclination to go back to fountain pens and refilling ink cartridges. But that does mean that coming back to a well-designed and sturdy pen like this is a real pleasure - it feels just right in the hand and has a pleasing weight to it. The added bonus is that with a roller ball and an easily replaceable cartridge there's no mess and fuss to it.The one criticism I have is not of the pen itself, but the refill cartridges; you would have though it would be easy to find the right replacement cartridge on Google or Amazon, but it took me a lot of searching and reading to find something which I could be sure actually fitted the Sonnet model and was of suitable quality -

Emblazoned on the side of the box. By appointment to HM the Queen. By appointment to HRH The Prince of Wales. So just like my friends I am writing with a Parker. Buy this pen and feel royal too.I guess this is a great gift or a really useful flash pen for those who use the ancient craft of writing. Nowadays I use a pen mainly to sign my name and write a to-do list on a scrap of paper. A head teacher would probably be the ideal person to receive this pen.Good points; fabulous case, really great looking pen barrel, no springs, no poison, and feels smooth when writing.Bad points; none that I can see, apart from a rather modest price tag.

Beautiful looking, correctly weighted and well-balanced pen. The Fine Point Black refill has thin lines (0.5mm?). The ink flow is excellent, and dries quickly. One can write on thin (70gsm paper) without completely showing through. But the point is a little scratchy. The advertised box for the pen was supplied, making the item presentable as a gift. Phew!Parker Sonnet is an elegant shape, and this item looks like a pen. At Black Friday price, the user is very pleased!

The Parker 75, to me the ultimate in older world elegance and utility without the ostentatious air of a Montblanc nor is it as pedestrian as a Cross. It's not available anymore of course, and so the Sonnet. The nubbly surface has been smoothed out and actually it's a bit better for cleaning. I bought this as a gift and it was well appreciated. I think it's beautiful. Do I need to mention that it writes like butter?

This is a beautiful matt finish rollerball pen, it writes very well the ink dries fast and most important is easy to read even when your vision is not that perfect anymore.

Beautiful solid elegant. It is a tool of elegance and intrinsic value. There is no reason to own a pen over 10 $ in value. This brings its own enjoyment of its beauty.

Pen looks beautiful, the weight in hand is really nice, and writing on paper is smooth. Really happy with the purchase and would very much recommend it.

It’s a nice pen with perfect balance. However, I had some issues with leaking ink. Might be an isuue with a kernel.
