In the first instance, the item arrived well within the dates given in the despatch notice, well packaged and clearly addressed. Many thanks to the seller for that excellent service. As for the item itself, I have become increasingly annoyed at how the price of items like this have exploded in the light of positive feedback from the likes of Ray Mears, Bear Grylls and the like. I didn't expect Opinel to jump on the bandwagon but ever since I decided to look at going more ultra light with my camping / backpacking equipment (I'm getting old now, and pack weight is important), I've noticed the relative skyrocketing prices of equipment. While this saw is excellent for light backpacks, and gets through 2 inch diameter green wood nicely, there are pros and cons:PROS:Very lightAppropriate locking system when the blade is open or closedHandle is ergonomic and fits nicely into both my hand or my adult daughter's hand, and that of my 12 year old grandson.Blade cuts on the pull stroke which is my preference, rather than the push stroke.CONS:Blade is non replaceable as far as I know. Therefore, either learn how to sharpen one of these blades (very difficult to learn, and a tedious process even for the experienced ) or accept that as soon as the teeth in the blade become dull, you will be disgarding this item for a new one. I have used mine on a regular basis to cut up to 2 inches in diameter green woods and still find that the blade is adequate. My old one of some years still gives satisfaction, but I definitely notice the difference in cutting ability between my old one and this new one.Price - It seems the average price of these saws are between £18 and £22 GBP as of November 2015. I think that is an outrageous price for what you are getting, considering the cons associated with the blade as discussed above.Blade material - Would have been better as a carbon steel blade and could have been better with a slightly increased blade width along the back, say another half of a millimetre or so. I have accidentally put pressure on the forward stroke while using this item and found the blade flexes quite a bit, therefore jamming in the wood. My bad, but be aware it can happen. Carbon steel blades are stronger and with an increased width along the back of the blade, would make this a better performer. If you take into consideration the price, blade material, and inability to change out a worn blade, then in my honest opinion a Laplander would be a better choice. The Opinel saw is fine for hiking / camping trips if you are an occasional camper, but a better long term solution for a relatively small increase in weight and size would be the Laplander ( or a Silky if you have the money ).Overall, service from the vendor was excellent, item itself is fine for my immediate needs and could be better but I do think Opinel Folding Saw is over priced.

My requirements are that this saw be light and that it fits inside the calf pocket of tactical response BDU pants AND that it will fit in a Maxpedition (type) pocket organizer, as well ... and, of course, that it be durable and cut (both) green and dry woods, very well. Lower price would be very welcome, BTW!So ... This saw or the Gerber Sportsman's Wood Saw (Coarse) are the ONLY TWO CONTENDERS.I would strongly recommend the BAHCO LAPLANDER FOLDING SAW, for those who have a bit more flex on their size and weight requirements ... I DO carry a Laplander in my Waist-Pack (search: "Jumbo Modular Deployment Bag").But, if you MUST have a saw that will easily fit in a BDU pocket or in a smaller kit or organizer ...yep ... get this fine saw or the Gerber Sportsman's Wood Saw (Coarse) ... This Opinel is most elegant and will appeal to bushcrafters ... a work of art. (BUT VERY PRICEY !)* * * * Four Stars ! ... Could be less expensive.

This saw is heirloom quality, no matters if you want a saw for the garden, your bushcraft pack, or it's a "just in case I need one" type purchase this saw will serve you well. The teeth self clean well even when dealing with wood that contains lots of sap, the locking feature is simple and easy to use/manipulate, and blade replacements are also available. This is a smaller saw though and although it does not have the blade length of other garden saws I have never felt it was too small, yet if you want a larger blade they make a larger saw.

The classic looking design of this saw matches the rest of the opinel line and is just as charming. I love how well this saw performs on both soft and hardwoods when out bushcrafting and gathering firewood as well as small tree trimming. I also love the light weight and strong lockup. If you want a smaller tree trimming saw with old world quality and design this is a great choice. On a side note i notched the handle on mine to increase traction, though it does fine without that.

This saw is extremely sharp, and cuts very straight through fresh branches as well as dried/aged wood. We took it into the forest to cut down some branches to make our own slingshots with the kids, and it was great to have a folding, pocket-able saw.The teeth are medium to large, so if you're looking for very fine teeth, you would need a different saw. It was still easy to cut through extremely hard, aged branches though.

I chose this saw because I read positive reviews, and all comments were true. I am sure many other folding pocket saws work as well, but the wooden handle appealed to me. It works beautifully, leaving clean cuts. It slides in and out of pocket well, making it pleasant to stash on-body, and thus less likely to be left under a shrub.

The Opinel no 12 folding saw arrives sharp and ready to work. The handle is comfortable for a few hours worth of sawing, and the locking mechanism is robust enough for sawing through moderately large diameter branches (up to 3 - 4 inches). Great for getting into tight spaces where power trimmers or larger shears will not fit.

Cuts anything under 3.5” like butter. Used it on a recent camping trip to do some emergency bushcraft (fashioned an emergency part for my mountain bike rack). Feels great in the hand, a real tool, not flimsy. Absolutely worth the weight penalty vs Coghlin’s Sierra Saw. Will carry in every trip outside the desert from now on.

This thing eats wood like a champ. The handle is very comfortable (medium sized hands). It seems rather durable as I have beat the crap out of it with no issues. The blade is the perfect length, in my opinion, for camping and backpacking and the whole thing weighs very very little. Tons of power in a small, light package!

Opinel makes great products. This saw works fine, however the locking collar was way too stiff to turn. I had to watch a fewyoutube videos to learn how to take it off so I could adjust the collar to work as well as it does on the two Opinel knives I own.Not a big issue but not what I normally get from Opinel.

Great little saw. Important to remember this is a pull-saw -it cuts on the pull stroke not push. watch your fingers! It is very sharp. Will give long service if looked after. Good in the garden or for smaller bush craft tasks.Shame that you can’t replace the blades on this model (possible on its big sister)

Super sharp and nice to hand .A good addition to any ones OPINEL collection .Given the light weight of the knife range , The saw allows the survivalist to cut branches etc for their fire .Or the avid gardener to quickly prune back branches with a touch of elegance .

My favorite brand of knife and this saw ROCKS. Great size, super powerful and let's face it - it's gorgeous. I get lots of compliments on it in my gardening group. It will cut through anything. I love the hole in the end and I threaded a leather strip through it.

Everything Opinel makes is well made, and exudes well thought design and craftsmanship. I tied a paracord loop to the end and Dremeled my name on the blade and it is now part of camping and gardening general use. Nice to see something not made in China as well.

I looked at cheaper folding pruning saws but they were all plastic, this was the one I chose. More expensive than other products but all the great qualities of a good Opinel knife and more; it will last, fits neatly in a coat pocket, a real pleasure to use.
