I use my 10-20mm on a D3500. You can set the camera to control the natural distortion of the lens and I also alter exposure and saturation controls on the camera too. This is a very light lens and you'd hardly know it was there. I keep the aperture range between f8 to f11 where the best performance from center to edge is. I use a warm polarising filter on it too which you have to be careful of when at the wider end. At those apertures you can also ramp up the meter sensitivity to 400 or 800 asa or higher without any discernible drop in picture quality if the light drops. VR is built in already and there is no means to turn it off on the lens. You can grab the manual focussing ring on the lens at anytime without pressing any buttons. The zooming action is very smooth and belies the plastic construction that extends to the lens mount.Since getting hold of one I have not taken it off! The wide perspective is addictive. But what is marvellous about the lens besides it's range for the price (and I got mine for £219.00) is how much you can pack into a frame at normal distances and use the camera to correct the distortion. So you have pictures that are relatively undistorted but full of content - subject AND context all in one. So, a new pictorial language can be learnt by the photographer. Sharpness is perfectly acceptable as long as you stop down. I have yet to use it for close ups.So, to sum up this lens is a lot of fun for not very much money and as long as you employ it within it's best performance parameters (using smaller apertures, uprating ASA/ISO's to help the VR) i am sure like me you will get lots of great pictures.REMEMBER - to get the lens at its best performing apertures (from f8-f11) just increase the sensor sensitivity on the camera to match the conditions, i.e. in overcast darker conditions use ISO400 to 800 or slightly higher - the DSLRs that can take this lens (D3400/D3500) still perform very well indeed at higher ISO ratings.Highly Recommended, and thank you Nikon for making a truly accessible wide angle zoom for us DX users and photo enthusiasts!!

I bought this at the same price from John Lewis to make sure I got a genuine UK model and not a grey import. The lens is fabulous (I have a Nikon D5300), pictures totally sharp with no curvature or apparent optical or chromatic aberrations at the edges. The 10mm wide angle really makes all the difference shooting in confined spaces and the lens seems to focus almost up to the glass. I tested out the VR (Vibration Reduction) and took photos at 1/4 second, hand held and on magnifying the images I could detect no blur at all - quite spectacular and it will negate the use of flash in many situations. As you would expect from Nikon, the quality of manufacture is impecable.IMPORTANT: If you have a D5300 (or D5500 or D3300)you need the latest firmware installed (currently C1.02). This is easy to do via the Nikon website whereby you download a file to your computer, copy it to the memory card you have in your camera (either remove it and slot it in your computer or plug your camera into the computer and copy using Windows File Explorer, you then switch the camera on and go to FIRMWARE VERSION (at the end of the Set-Up Menu [spanner] in the camera memory, it will find the file and update firmware, which takes about 5 minutes. - this doesn't seem to have any effect on other functions but allows you to switch the Lens VR on and off). The two photos were taken at 10mm, F6.3, distance about 15 inches the first with camera flash - cropped to about a qurter of original picture. The second was taken with a Nikon SB-700, distance about 24in with the same settings but is cropped to about 10th original picture. Both cropped from centre of picture.A problem I have found is that if you shoot within a few metres using the built in flash you get a shadow at the bottom of the picture because the light is obscured by the lens. Using the external flash raised the light source.

Brilliant lens, the 10mm end (on DX, so this is equivalent to 15mm) gives a unique viewpoint of a scene with minimal distortion or chromatic aberration, as some (slightly more critical) reviews have highlighted. The whole frame is sharp (although sharpness is best at around f/8) even at the shortest focal length. Moving towards the 20mm (30mm equiv) end, the aperture changes to f/5.6 but the sharpness is still there, a great lens for either landscape or urban photography.Another bonus feature is that the lens is light (thanks partly due to the plastic mount) and the autofocus is quick - although note that due to the new AF-P focusing system, it is not compatible with some slightly older Nikon cameras, and some may need a firmware update in order to work fully. The included 'Vibration Reduction' is a very useful feature that allows you to use slower shutter speeds even handheld. The smaller 72mm diameter means that filters will be slightly cheaper on this lens. All this comes at a very reasonable price of around £300. Its main competition is the Sigma 10-20, which has the bonus of a fixed aperture throughout the range, however this is a significantly heavier lens so not ideal for taking on long walks, unlike the lighter Nikon version. The Tokina 11-16 comes with the bonus of a larger aperture of f/2.8, so more useful for low-light work, however it also has a shorter focal range and is significantly more expensive.Overall, I am very pleased with this lens and would certainly recommend it as it gives a unique perspective to a scene.

I've been using a Sigma 10-20mm ultra wide with my Nikon D7100 for some time and getting excellent results but have been frustrated while shooting interiors of buildings such as castles and cathedrals. The low light conditions mean you have to shoot at a slow shutter speeds and anything below 1/30 second gives you camera shake. Enter the Nikon 10-20mm VR lens. I can now shoot at shutter speeds as slow as 1/6 second due to Vibration Reduction and get the shot I want with the available light from windows. You don't want to use flash in such situations as it will ruin the lovely natural light. Tripods are also a no-no in most big buildings. In all, this Nikon 10-20mm VR lens solves a lot of problems for me,makes things I want possible and still provides pin sharp images. It was worth the upgrade from my Sigma 10-20mm lens.

Have wanted a wide angle lens for a while now to improve my landscape photography skills. For the money this is outstanding value! Unbelievably sharp, light and compact. To get VR for this sort of price is amazing. Yes the mount is plastic and you have to control the VR and auto/manual focus via the in camera menu, but for this sort of money there has to be a trade off. If you want all the bells and whistles then you’ll be paying 3 times as much. I am currently running the most up to date firmware, so had none of the reported issues regarding the VR and focusing controls. I cannot recommend this lens enough. Just buy it, you won’t be disappointed!

I can't give an extensive review on a professional photographers eye on the quality of image as I'm quite new to DSLR photography. However, I find this lens a fantastic addition to my kit. I find the quality fantastic for what I need it for. Which is predominantly landscapes and cityscapes. And lightroom/photoshop does a great job of correcting any lens distortion should I need to at the widest point. But even without that it still gives a amazing quality especially for the price.

Love this lens!! I've always used an SLR camera, usually with lenses that are better for macro images. However, I've finally decided to branch out and go the other way too. I am definitely not disappointment, this lens is perfect for accurate, wide angle nature photography. (Or property, as I am an estate agent by trade, this comes in very handy!). No distortion and great colours. Very happy customer over here :)

Bought this as an DX ultrawide that would take a protective UV filter for use in rainy conditions. I normally use a more expensive Sigma 8-16 which is both wider and sharper but the Sigma cannot use filters as it has a protruding convex front element. The Nikon is fairly sharp, focusses quickly, and if you don't need the absolutely widest angle (regrettably I do) would be a good choice.

I love this lens, it works really well paired with my Nikon D5500 camera. I think there has been an overall price reduction recently but price on Amazon a while back was the trigger I needed to purchase.Adds a new dimension to amateur/semi-pro photography. Nikon build quality and an essential lens for any kit!

Had my first trip out with this lens and found it perfect for an amateur like me . I think the images I got were excellent . Have a bit to learn in terms of how to get the best shots from it , but that is part of the fun. This lens will be attached to my camera often I think

Can't stop taking photo's with this lens. OK its a bit on the expensive side, but it's as good, if not better than some lenses that are twice the price. Can't wait for Autumn and it's spectacular colours. Crisp, sharp Auto Focus, VR too. Top notch as far as I'm concerned.

Getting to understand the different perspectives that a very wide angle lens provides (even with a cut down sensor). First impressions are that the lens does everything required of it, but I am being cautious about the extent of distortion at the wider angle settings.

The field of view is incredible - I sometimes use this for a day and still get excited at the different results and the pin-sharp resolution. You have to change your ideas to use this well, and the mental exercise is well worth it.Lovely bit of kit

This is a very wide angle very good quality lens for an astonishingly reasonable price. Argos needs to correct the title as this is not the older and slower focusing AF S lens but is actually the new ultra quiet super fast focusing AF P lens.

Really nice lens. I've wanted a wide one for a while and I saw this one and went for it. It's good fun. Focus is fast and silent, image quality is decent enough. There's some CA and some distortion but that can be fixed in post
