This lens was a 'white box' purchase from e-bay to replace a 55-300 which is a good lens for entry/mid level cameras; and for its price provides sharp images while being mercifully light to carry around on a DSLR.The problem with the 55-300mm is a tendency to hunt when taking long bursts when it fails to get and hold any focus; I never had a problem with the 55-300mm for static or slow moving images and I wouldn't have changed it but for my now owning a D500 where the 55-300 was just too slow to focus when taking bursts.I am very pleased with the 70-300 VR. It sits nicely above my standard 16-80 f2.8/4 VR lens and is considerably lighter than my 70-200mm f2.8 VR2 which is marvellous but is just too big and heavy to take on holidays alongside a 10-24mm and 35mm prime. It is sharp across the range, perhaps a little bit softer than the 55-300 at the 300mm end but that is at best subjective. The absence of manual buttons for VR on/off etc. does not bother me.I bought a cheap lens hood to go with it, the Nikon one is an extra cost and not worth it.So, the 70-300 is a cheap, plasticky 'consumer' lens that delivers much, much better images than one would expect for its cost, hence the purchase, and by buying a 'white box' lens I can afford to throw away if it malfunctions - for me it was a very good buy.If you have warranty concerns then don't buy a 'white box' lens that Nikon UK/Europe will not repair for free. I would never an expensiveNikon lens this way - my 10-24, 16-80 & 70-200mm all came from UK shops with a UK warranty but for value this 70-300mm VR was a great buy.Read full review...

A great change to my 55-200mm which seems extremely noisy now, in comparison. Images are very sharp, Autofocus is very quick (maybe a little too quick at times), auto and manual focus is perfect for trying to focus past or through something (such as leaves). Perfect for wildlife or astro photography. And I've not even used it to shoot any kind of footage yet, which in theory is the reason for the quiet Pulse motor design. But I'm sure this will come in very handy when trying to record animals. This lens has caused me to seriously consider changing all my lenses to the AF-P lens. The only concern that I have found is occasionally the focus will change slightly (only when I have iso 100 selected)within the time it takes between focusing and fully taking the picture, as if somewhere along the way the lens thought I had depressed the auto focus again. I have found that by gently moving the focus wheel slightly back and forth (into focus again) helps to stop this.I have also found that the focus point system in manual mode does not focus on what you expect it to, this may be down to my setup, camera or even the firmware but when taking a quick snap of the moon you would expect it to focus on the biggest object. The camera seems to focus on the brightest object in the frame and this tends to be a star, but again this can be over come with auto or manually refocusing.I'm no expert but I love this lens.Hope this helpsRead full review...

Good quality, especially for the price. I had a hard time deciding between the 55-300mm and the 70-300mm Nikkor, but when I saw the good reviews about the 70-300 for wildlife, I made the decision to go for this lens. It's fairly lightweight in my opinion, and has good range, even managing macros of garden birds, at a stretch. My best photos so far have been of fairly slow-moving animals, however.I've knocked it once or twice and haven't noticed any damage, so I believe it to be fairly robust, and the image quality is very good until fully zoomed in, when it starts to soften. I find the lens practical and good quality for the price, especially with the image stabilisation included.A worthwhile buy for anyone interested in nature photography. To sum up - good quality for the price, and lots of packaging to keep it safe on the journey, too!Read full review...

There are other brands that make 70/300mm lenses for both Nikong and Canon and I was one of those that thought they would do as they were around the £90 mark. I was enjoying the tose lenses until you realise how unsharp they are so I thought I would take a chance on this one. There is no Af/Mf switch and there is no VR off switch either but the focus ring works well without the need for a switch and would you want to turn VR off anyway ? Iset the tripod up and took idential shot os my cars reg plate from around 100ft away and zoomed in on my old lens I could not read the dealers address that is in small writing at the bottom. With this lens I could not only read it but see it very clearly.I would recommend this to anyone wanting to buy one in this focal length.

Bought this lens for use on a Nikon D5500. I found my Nikon 55-200 VR 11 very good but falling a bit short for bird pictures. The exceptional price makes it affordable to have in the lens line up, completing the range of lighter weight plastic travel lenses with the 18-55 VR11. For occasional use the plastic mount is acceptable.Given the aperture constraints pictures are sharp up to just short of 300mm where a little bit of softening is evident. Autofocus is very quick, accurate and quiet. The 58mm filters for my Nikon 50mm 1.4G fit.In summary, very pleased. I'd done my research on this lens before buying and it lives up to what the credible reviewers say about it. A bargain at the price,I wouldn't hesitate to buy it again.

I have to say that since I bought this lens I have not used my shorter lens. It just fits in my Lowe Pro holster.Clarity is exceptional and the VR has meant that I rarely use a tripod except for slow or dark scenes.I am using this with a Nikon D7200Compared to using the same size Minolta VR on a Sony A390 it is chalk and cheese.I am not a professional, but results even when blown up on a 55inch screen are spotleslessly clear. This is in jpeg. Raw should give even more detail. Why anyone would want a more expensive lens I don't know unless an out and out professional.I paid 149.99 for a new second-hand lens. It had been split from a set. New price around 330 pounds.

Amazing DX lens for the price, VR works well and there are no lens anomalies. Stands up to pixel peaking and provides very sharp images - great for landscape or good light. Probably not fast enough for sports on a dull afternoon but that is not what I use it for.Bokeh is smooth but depth of field is large unless the subject is close. Would highly recommend buying this while you save up the several hundreds of pounds or even thousands for a faster lens and FX camera.I tried the lens on a friends Nikon 7000 and it did not work at all. Works very well on my D5600

Picked up this lens at a great price, considering brand new at other shops it's around £250. As it is a budget telephoto lens, I was concerned about the quality of the image, however after testing it out at numerous locations, I can confirm that the image is very sharp, all the way to the end focal length at 300mm. It is a great introductory lens for my wildlife photography, and overall I am very satisfied with the product. Delivery was also great, and came alot sooner than expected.

My 55-300 lens packed in and I wanted to replace it..I saw the af-p and having read a couple of reviews thought for the little extra I would give it a try.Used it last Sunday for the first time and I wasn’t disappointed, really quick, quiet autofocus. If your on a budget and want a telephoto then this fits the bill, just make sure that it will work on your camera as it doesn’t on certain models..I’m using it on a 7100.

I would never have thought it possible to hand hold such a powerful zoom lens until I bought and tried out this one. In the good old days of 35mm a tripod would have been essential with this type of lens at the 300mm (450mm equivalent) focal length. It brings a whole new area of creativity to the D5600.I èould have no reservations in recommending this lens backed up by Argos' brilliant service.

This lens is light and compact for compatible Nikon DX cameras It’s AF-P so check compatibility with your Nikon before ordering. A quick search using the lens designation and your camera model will deliver the answer. It’s very sharp and above all light to carry on and off the camera. It focuses quickly and silently. I’m delighted with mine.

I'm still very much a beginner at DSLR photography but got this lens to replace an older Tamron one. The initial "it's broken" reaction (because the focussing is super-quick) is soon overridden by "this lens is soooo good"! I don't know all the technical words but in comparison to what I did have, I am VERY happy!! Nice accessory pack too :)

I have only had limited use of the lens since I bought it, but so far I am pleased with the results. It does focus well and the VR function is a very good thing to have; stabilises the image well even at fool zoom. It was a good price, and even though it came in a white box; originally part of a full kit, I believe it is the real deal.

Good product available at a good price, a nice size lense for 70-300mm. Smaller than expected. My order wasnt processed until 5 days after purchased and received tracking info on the same day it was delivered. Break down in communication somewhere but it was delivered on the estimated day and well packaged

Big improvement from AF-S, I have also the 70-200mm AF-S and when doing video you can here the focusing even with a external mic. But with the AF-P 70-300mm the focusing is silent and very quick to focus and pin sharp. I think it can miss occasionally in dark conditions but it's not a big issue for me.
