Despite the lure of online games, I am pleased to say that there is still a place for board games of all kinds. Aimed at ages 4+ this is both fast, and easy, to play and involves matching five famous footballer cubes in a row – either horizontally, vertically or diagonally. This is for two players and, with the World Cup currently very popular, I thought my nephew would enjoy playing it.As such, it is a sort of Connect 4 game, but there is a twist to the game at the end involving the cards you are dealt, which makes it a little more interesting for older children (if you are playing with very young children, you could just forget this part of the game to make it easier). The idea is that you push through the cubes until one player gets a row of footballers. Just make sure that when you set up the game, you do not have two footballers together in any row. Before you start playing, each child gets two cards. Only once a player gets a row of the same footballer, the other player (losing player) turns over their cards. If one of their two cards matches the line of footballers the other player has made then they can win the game. Obviously, little children may not cope that well with the idea of thinking they have won and then they lose, but, if they are old enough then it makes a fun twist. The pieces are well made and the game sturdy. Overall, a lot of fun and it is a quick game to play, so it will appeal to younger players who find longer board games complicated. I do have a Disney Princess version of this game which is much more colourful and appealing, but I suppose that - in their wisdom - game designers think that boys like drab colours... My nephew was upset there was no player from the England team included, but he was still interested and wanted to look up the players included to see who they were.

This game is a football version of connect 4, only you have to get 5 in a row.Its a simple enough game to play but is very enjoyable. The carry case on the front does not come with it by the way but the game itself is very fun. There are 25 blocks each with different players on that block, your aim is to get 5 in a row, each time you move a block the other players will move also so its a game of chance and skill also. There are 16 players on the cards, with random 6 on each block, the aim is to get 5 in a row on the game. The cards however allow you to steal the game also if the player who was 5 in a row (eg messi, pogba, kane) is on your card. My son loves it and has played it alot with me and its great fun.If your kid likes soccer then this is one game he will enjoy. We spend hours playing it and having lots of chats and fun as we try and beat each other in the game. Well worth it for that time alone.

Cashing in on the recent World Cup and fondness of children for Top Trumps (although I see little similarity between this product and the card games, perhaps I am missing something!), the 'Top Trumps World Football Stars Match Board Game' is a well-thought-out board game, somewhat akin to Battleships. It takes a little patience to set up, and some thought and strategy to play, but had our football-mad boys engaged quietly for quite some time. I particularly like the carry case, which stops pieces getting lost/going in the dog, all games should have them!I'm not sure how much replayability this will have longer-term, but the children are certainly enjoying it for now. Good football tie-in game, with some educational value.

I think any young football fan would be thrilled to receive this game. Especially when they spot their favourite players. My 8 year old was super excited when he got it being football crazy. We have played a few games and you don't need to be an expert at football to play. A plus for me. If you follow the rules it can get a little complicated but as with other games I feel free to adapt so my 5 year old can play too. It's a well made game and easy to transport. It won't have a long life span for a football fanatic as players are always changing but should keep them happy for a while.

I've played this a few times with my son, and we've both really enjoyed this. It's similar-ish to Battleships in that you have to guess where the football stars are, and quite quick to play so there's no chance of getting bored. I imagine that the footballers included will soon get out of date, but even so it's good fun and has gone down well with my son (and with his friend, who he's also played it with). Good for any young football fan!

Brilliant game for young football fans. The concept is a bit like a connect four but with famous footballers, and an element of surprise as you can’t see what’s on the opposite players side of the board. My boys age 7, 8 and 10 enjoy this game and I’ve enjoyed it with them. Easy to grasp the rules and can be played quite quickly. We also have the Mario version. It’s well made and stores back into the box easily and neatly afterwards.

Perfect time to get this game, what with the World Cup n all! My son and his friends enjoyed playing this, it kept them entertained (with, unusually, no arguments) for a long time. It’s well made, and packs away to be a compact little unit for storage, so great for not losing bits of it. The only reason I knocked off a star is because it does make it appear, on the box, that you receive a backpack with it. You don’t!

Top Trumps World Football Stars Top Trumps Match Board GameThe "Crazy Cube Game" is a cross between the Top Trumps card game - based on matching cards - and Connect Four. The rules are simple - meaning you can concentrate on play, and younger players can easily play too - and the game comes in a sturdy carry case, making it great for travel. For sale at the time of writing this review at £13.31 (RRP £16.14)

We have had such fun playing this game my sons (4&7) love it.The game is easy to setup and the rules are easy to follow. It took a few games but eventually they both fully understood what to do and my 7 year old particularly enjoyed thinking up strategies. When finished playing the game also fold up nicely into its carry case - this is ideal for taking away on a holiday or in the car.A really fun game.

My 7 year old son loved playing this game because it was full of footballers he liked including his favorite players Kane, Pogba and Neymar. We loved being able to sabotage the other players game plan and found it very easy to set up and play. We were playing within minutes and have been playing all afternoon even while the World Cup game was on!It’s a very well made and packaged game a real success.

Hours of fun so far, my 6 year old son loves it (it was for his birthday) and his 9 year old sister and her friends also play with this (and me and my husband). All good players. Simple rules and a good quality product. Would recommend and will definitely purchase this for friends birthdays.

Think Battleships mixed with Connect 4 and you get the idea. You each take it in turn to turn a cube to match 5 of the same. Not too difficult but I've had a few games that went on for ages and this became a little boring. Neat for youngsters I think who are fans of the characters.

This is a fun and relatively simple to play. I would say its ideal for 5+ to 11 year olds. You have match your cubes in a row you have won (5 in a row). The parts of large so you won't lose them easily. Its just a fun simple game that is a little different. good buy!

Easy to set up and easy to play. Can be taken on holiday or long flights or train journeys to entertain the kids. It the car might be a bit tricky, I think the pieces might fall out.My boys love football and trump cards so game is a winner

Fun game with simple to learn rules. I like the fact that the case contains the game when not in use so bits don’t go missing. Was a bit confused by the blue rucksack which is pictured but is not in the box and hence it lost a star.
